One thing regarding spawning vehicles that interests me, when a scripter spawns a vehicle does it actually spawn a brand new one from thin air or does it take one that's already on the server somewhere? Or can both be done? I only ask because quite a few times my group has had vehicles stolen, we've always put it down to people finding our camp and moving them. Only recently the last two times we've had a Ural stolen each time it was way out in the middle of nowhere, well hidden and with no wheels. We found it again sitting in a field completely fixed with the other Ural plus every other vehicle in the game bar the buses and chopper. We steal it back with the other Ural, hide them both in a different place with no wheels again. Log in a few hours later and they are gone again :( the person that logged in to check on them gets teleported to a location where all the vehicles are then killed. So I would like to know, can scripters teleport your vehicle as well as spawning vehicles?

Finding a home server, is it worth it?
nayrilac replied to nayrilac's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I love the idea of having a camp...even if people tried to loot it. Gives me something to defend, and to call mine. We've spent numerous hours repairing vehicles too and had them disappear. However, my thought on that is that it's fun while you have it so take advantage while you can haha. -
Not arguing, I may have done wrong, but what?
hatfieldcw replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Is there a resource for deciphering the codes? I'd also like to know why the Eye of Battle gazes balefully upon me from time to time. I've gotten a couple weird kicks, usually all my buddies on the server get kicked at the same time for the same reason. I'm assuming stuff like that is due to the server using a script or setting that's not approved for pairing with DayZ, like an "always daytime" or "no rain" or "delete all vehicles outside the map hourly", or "three helicopters instead of one" script. Also, if you really didn't deserve it, sorry about the global ban. That blows. They said they fixed the erroneous ones, so maybe you can get back in now. -
Finding a home server, is it worth it?
hYsoka replied to nayrilac's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As of now, I'm going to have to say no. I mean me and my friends play on pretty much the same servers (We have vehicles, and know campsites to loot there, etc.) But we never set up our own camp even though we tried. We play it as kind of "Use your ammunition, food and medical supplies to get to spot x, fill up used resources then go to spot y, rinse and repeat" with the occasional joking around along the way, but setting up a permanent camp is something we haven't done yet. -
UNOFFICIAL PATCH NOTES 1.7.3 Now in beta. (Not real, silly people)

Private hives sometimes have 50 vehicles or more, it can be done in regular servers. Honestly, great patch notes, if only... -
Oh wow, someone doth protest too much! Seeing things from the admin side, I am certainly thankful that some clever people volunteer their time to run the CBL. Vandrel seems to have the attitude that any possibility of a false positive invalidates the value of the list. More reasonable people, who have a responsibility to their players to provide a more secure and fair playground, will disagree with him. By your logic Vandrel, we should shut down the emergency telephone services because they are open to abuse/swatting. There is even less vetting happening in that system, lets ditch it! On a more serious note, this system (the CBL) is an example of players working together to provide a service improvement to their community. And while I would be annoyed to find myself on the list, I don't expect to end up there, and would know what to do if I did. Finally, let me just say that there seems to be this massive sense of entitlement among SOME of the regular players in this community. Many server admins provide a lot of their own time and effort in order to keep these little fantasy worlds running fairly and consistently. I am sure there are a few bad apples who abuse their power, but I know for myself and the players on the server I admin, I don't care about the loot, or the deaths or the vehicles, as long as it is a consistent world. Ensuring the server I play on is as pure as possible is half the fun of playing for me. There is nothing more disruptive to the "suspension of disbelief" then having cheaters spawning in vehicles/items/buildings, map hacking, esping. And worse is knowing that you can't do anything until you check the logs. At least with a community ban list we know that most of the known offenders will be blocked at the gate before they can cause damage. At least until they buy another CD key.

I got this idea from a user video where a hacker had placed a huge naval destroyer on the beach, half in the water. Well it reminded me of several games where you see a cargo ship or something in a desert miles away from any ocean, river, etc. I think it would add a real sense of "wtf happened here?" to the game. I mean you wake up on the beach to a place you've never been or don't remember, notice zombies everywhere, head away to safety and in this field theres a big ship that couldn't or shouldn't be there. You would think " what happened here to cause all this craziness, first zombies and destroyed vehicles everywhere, now a cargo ship miles from the coast?" I think it would be interesting. Tell me what you think.

We rob camps, kill kids, and just do bandit ass shit. Welcome to pm me on here or add me on skype; heymisterowl We both already have a large deal of experience playing FPS games, (cs 1.6 and so forth) so if this suites you, and you're a competitive person join. Thanks guys, Owl.

In order to get some stories I've changed my playstyle. I no longer head much to the north, I do not hoard stuff nor vehicles. Instead I am trying to get humanity so basically talk to the people before shooting. Does it get me killed a lot? Oh yes, but there are also times when I meet friendly people and they usually say something like I am the first person that did not try to murder them on sight. Try this playstyle. It is doable, you just have to accept the higher probability of dying and you need to let go the fear of losing stuff. I'm totally ok with just having winchester or enfield and I tend to find AK/AKM or M4/M16 quite a lot while adventuring in Cherno / Elektro. In past 3 days I had bandit shooting me in the head while I was tending to his wounds, sniper with AS50 on killing spree, saving my buddy few times, meeting 3 friendly people (I've added one finnish lad to Steam friend list) and lots of interesting gameplay down in the south :-). I still can't decide if to shoot "towel heads" on sight even if they are unarmed and I will probably resort to this soon.

Guys that do that shit give us admins that spend more time scouring the logs than playing trying to get evidence to protect the server (and the players and their assets on the server) so we can be accused of lets see what have i read over the months oh i know, teleporting, rolling back, spawning weapons, vehicles etc. Not to mention the fact that with every patch it seems to get harder and harder to track down the hackers unless its blatantly happening infront of you. For example today i personally witnessed a guy on the coast spawning the big black PMC Suv, oh and lets not forget the guy with the g36c sd that teleported behind me, then directly infront of me as i fired on him (7 out of 10 shots hit him as50) to which he just looked at me and opened fire (and missed) long enough for me to esc/abort then ban (yes thaduke im talking to you, you sad sack of shit). Sooner rather than later ill end up going private hive the reasons for this are simple 1.Complete control over the player base (i.e hackers get banned period) 2.Vehicles and tents actually save (zomg a miracle) 3.Hive isn't busted (see reason 2)

It used to be better. 17 days ago, before the patch that broke tents and vehicles, back when people were working on this mod, not circle jerking with game-media wankers about the stand alone version that might be ready one day. ah, those were the days. you could find and repair a vehicle, save it, log off, and when you logged back on it would be where you left it. or put a gun or two in a tent, and save that, and come back a day later and still have things in your tent. those were the days. tbh I stopped playing DayZ 2 weeks ago because of that shit being so busted ass broken. you tell that to kids these days and they won't believe you.

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
joikd replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I've posted my idea before, but I am going to post it again in this standalone thread since I think it is such a huge game changer. It deals with something that seems to bother nobody else but me --magic, invisible leprechauns that go around and re-spawn loot and zombies before your very eyes over and over and over and over. How does this not bother everyone else? The only thing I would prioritize above this idea is hacking/exploit fixes. Let me begin by saying that I love DayZ, and am very thankful for this mod. My goal with this post is to propose a couple of ideas that I think would dramatically change DayZ for the better (much more authentic) without trying force (punish/reward) anyone/anything artificially. The ideas simply change the environment to a more authentic one given the zombie/survival apocalypse that is the setting for DayZ. Loot--current system: 1. Spawns only in structures (authentic only if zero re-spawns occur) 2. Spawns in the same exact locations (authentic only if zero re-spawns occur) 3. Spawns an unlimited number of times (completely ruins the authentic scarcity of resources that would be present in this situation--combined with #1 & #2, players can actually thrive instead of struggling to survive) The real culprit of the inauthenticity with loot in the current system is the unlimited re-spawning. But, just removing #3 would not work in the current system since there are not permanent players for each server (server loot must sustain much more than the 25, 30, 50, etc. number of players that the server allows simultaneously). Even if each server did have a permanent set of players, removing #3 completely would make for a setting where, eventually, all players would be reduced to crossbows, canteens, map, compass, matches, etc. (all of the unlimited items) since the initial loot piles would not be re-spawned. While this may be an authentic scenario, I do not think that this is Rocket is trying to accomplish. Reducing loot spawns, while creating a more playable scenario than removing them altogether, still leaves that inauthentic feel of magically reappearing loot in places that have already been completely scavenged--no authentic explanation of these re-spawns can be made. So, if #3 is necessary, how can the loot system be made more authentic while keeping #3? The answer is removing all structure spawning, and replacing it with air drops (maybe have structures continue to infrequently spawn a non-weapon item (can of beans, etc.). The authentic basis for this idea comes from a man who describes his experiences during the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990's when the Balkan city where he lived was surrounded and cut-off for a year (google "Selco" & "Balkan"). He credits US air drops with saving his life. Add zombies to Selco's experience, and you have something very close to DayZ. The aircraft making the drops in DayZ could originate from the regions to the north and west (south and east is ocean) of Chernarus, and either be random (time and location), somehow authentically influenced by players, or a combination of both. The aircraft would then fly across the map to its drop zone, make the drop, and fly back across, and off of the map. These air drops would create all kinds of interesting (and authentic) scenarios. Players desperate for supplies may rush recklessly to the drop zone to grab what they can before zombies and/or bandits arrive. A large, well-supplied group might secure the drop zone to try to take everything for themselves, and engage anything that comes near. A group with a functioning Huey could become extremely powerful, since they could use radar to locate incoming aircraft, and quickly travel to drop zones all over the map (not to mention its weapons). Who is making these air drops? It could be the same group that failed in its military missions (crashed choppers). The variety of weapons/ammo/supplies that are dropped is explained by the fact that this group is just scavenging, stealing, etc. whatever it can find to include in the air drops. Zombies--current system: 4. Spawn and remain (unless giving chase) only around structures (unauthentic--zero zombie threat in the wilderness (opposite of what one would expect)) 5. Re-spawn an unlimited amount of times (combined with #4 makes for a completely unauthentic experience--even if all 50 players banded together, they cannot keep a small town clear since the zombies just keep re-spawning forever right in front of their eyes) Just like loot, it is the re-spawning that makes the current zombie system unauthentic. And, just like loot, partially or completely removing zombie re-spawns still leaves a feeling of inauthenticity (either zombies still magically re-spawn by structures even if it has been cleared, or no zombies ever threaten a cleared area again). Again, we need an authentic solution that allows re-spawning (zombies this time). The answer is moving all zombie spawns/re-spawns to the north and west edges of the map, and have the zombies migrate in packs to the south and east across the map. The packs would change their migration path if it sees/hears players, aircraft, and/or vehicles (sprint toward any of these). If the ArmA engine could view these packs as a single unit (unless they are being viewed by a player--similar to the current system), then the packs could be large (25 packs with 40 zombies each = 1000 total zombies). The combination of both the loot and zombie ideas would also give an authentic risk/reward system regarding player location. The further north/west a player is located, the earlier the player can spot an aircraft on its way to making an air drop, which is a big advantage (reward). But, the threat of zombies is also increased the further north/west a player is located (risk). Conversely, the further south and east a player is located, the less chance they have of seeing/hearing an aircraft, but the less chance they have of facing zombies (zombies killed off as they migrate south and east). -
Vehicle Spawning - Certain or a Chance
Xucphra replied to hardcoreymp's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Vehicles that people have taken and stashed away elsewhere won't return to their original place unless they were destroyed or untouched for 7 days. As for whether or not all vehicles are guaranteed to spawn from the start, I'm not sure. It's likely that while a vehicle did spawn there at some point, somebody got there before you and drove off and hid it somewhere. Keep checking different spawns, I personally find ATVs more often than anything else. Good luck. -
Looking for 2 players rolling together to join 2 more of a like ( will accept 1 person with experience + Maturity ). Were trying to do a 4 man team, but 3 is better then 2. I wont lie, we are shoot on site ( Dont trust anybody ). We have tried clans for weeks, but it never worked out. What i can tell you honestly about us...... 1) We dont have camp sites ( to paranoid atm ) 2) We have no vehicles ( but do find them alot ) 3) We join random servers 4) We do NOT hack ( whats the point in playing if you get all the end-game gearing from a hack? Sure its cool, but not our style....sorry ) 5) We have owned every (very rare item )....We are not new to the game 6) We are a US based player ( we are brothers and live together and share the same computer room...... yep, makes things easier : ) We are a tactical team, we tend to play on low level servers ( 10 people or less, due to our size ). We are on teamspeak, and if anyone is interested let me know. Send me a Message or reply to the post. Must have's...... - working Mic - TS3 - Maturity is a must, Will not tolerate people who just spam in TS thinking ( they have jokes )......" Your mom jokes.....Or your girlfriend said the same thing" after every phrase is not funny..... Maybe during certain comments, but if am hearing it every 2 minutes then guess what.....you get the point We live by 2 rules.....Dont Trust Anybody, and Dont Get Attached To Your Gear. Reply or Message me if interested. FYI, you will be playing with 30 yr old kids :)

US 488 Closure - 5th event triggering several disheartening hate-mail
VLG Castiel posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
TL;DR: Flak from the community passed the limits. Closure This post (and a follow-up on the community website) marks the closure of US 488. We MAY have it be picked up by someone else, but to be safe, I recommend taking all your things out of the server as soon as you can and enjoy your vehicles for the time it still has (server will run for another month) - Even if that is to happen, there'll likely be a week-long downtime in the process. Reason Paying and maintaining DayZ servers has officially given more pain than pleasure over time, I don't know how it is to fellow server admins out there (a considerably few now that there are thousands of servers), but over the course of these few months the small community supporting this has been endlessly trashed and received a tremendous amount of hate-mail. Admin access is locked to a grand total of two members. However, guaranteeing there's no admin abuse doesn't mean you're not going to be called on it. It's just something we have to accept and move on from and frankly, the time those things have taken from us is unbearable, even further affecting the rest of the members of the small community for the flexible users who can find them elsewhere through their nicknames and harass them there (it's that bad). Latest Example < removed > - After over 20 mails filled with profanity, the maker of the semi-popular video formally apologized for his mistake. To avoid having a server with inactive admins (that tends to lead to a hacker-heaven despite BattlEye's best continued efforts), we're not just ignoring everything and let it be an abandoned home for those of us who play (especially new-found members that have sticked around). We're closing it and possibly moving the donation to a different game. Thanks for the support so far and for playing in our servers these last months. -
already saw 3 vehicles today including a bus right next to elektro church with 1 wheel shot out, i was quite mad.
-
When the server restarts it will probably be gone. I've lost two cars, a bike, and a helicopter, but yesterday three vehicles my group had survived a server restart. This means your work probably wont be saved, but you might get lucky. Im really hoping the two trucks, van, and hatchback we have survive the next restart, but I really doubt they will.
-
Unfortunately some servers when they restart all the vehicles respawn too.
-
Ive heard many different things from many people. Some people say that no legit player will show up in remoteexec.log. Some have said legit players will show up if they crash a helo with the Spawn_BISEffects_Air Destruction, among others. I've banned several players in the log for spawning vehicles and weapons. I'm not sure about some of the others.
-
I own a server and it seems on most new servers vehicles don't save. They don't save gear, location and repairs. As of right now working on a vehicle is a waste of time, i'de suggest finding a Bike or motorcycle since their glitched and don't need repaired. (just save it and its fixed)
-
there needs to be one last update to the mod, servers should save vehicles.
-
That is something of a concern, especially with this mass HE spawn hack that seems to be making the rounds. If 1.7.3 fixes state saves for tents and vehicles, just ONE of these assholes will pretty much bring the entire "survival" side of the game to a screeching halt for anyone trying to play it that way. Problem is with the tent/vech situation as it is now, every day is ground hog day and most of my players are tired of constantly going out and securing vehicles and getting loot at the airfields and what not only to not have it save at all unless we put down a fresh tent (which isn't always viable as we only generally grab two tents off a couple ATV spawns every day, and two tents is never quite enough to help everyone keep their daily haul and tent spawns are fairly rare in the chance loot pool where they tend to show up) and only do one save once we've loaded in everything we've found that night. Overall its crap one way, or crap the other. Right now nothings saving and its not worth playing. If 1.7.3 makes everything work again, one guy that can spit out 2300 rounds of HE grenade ammo in 60 seconds can pretty much destroy the collective efforts of 15 or more people, that might have taken days or weeks to acquire legitimately, in about 60 seconds....all for the lulz. To be honest I'm starting to think its just best to leave my server down til the stand alone comes out.
