Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
Z__Z replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hi i got 2 combined Sugestions: Climb able trees Like a ladder climbable but not able to shoot from Save Logout Places To counter the altf4 problem and to add realism adds penalty Suggestions : Fireplace Houses TREES Deerstands Vehicles Explanation why: Everybody could climb a tree and would be relatively save from predators and even zambies so it would add to teh realism of the mod and would add to tactics and gamemechanics and it should be easy to implement in the alpha if you just define trees as ladders.Make the trees like a ladder would also mean that you cant shoot from it and it possibly couldnt be abused as a bandit sniper heaven. With trees as place where zambies cant get you, it would be possible to make a way more dangerous environment (animals hordes of zombies etc) and that would be good. Because i´d like to see way more cooperative gameplay and i think this can only happen when u increase the threat of the zombies etc so people are forced to cooperate to survive ... i think that would be more fun to play for everybody. It would just make the game harder ... and now the z´s are more or less just anoying ... and no real thread in is this setting as it should be. Also it would be a really exposed position where you cannot flee. So its sole purpose would be a defensive position for new spawns and as a save logout place. So the save logout system could be used to counter the altf4 problem with a penalty of a maybe 30 sec LOOTABLE character if not logged out in a save place. The idea is to make the char not killable but to be able to loose all the nice stuff which hurts more imho. So if a player altf4 ´rs out of a fight the hunter will still get the loot and the escapist will be punished. But if your game or computer crashes etc and nobody is around to loot you you wont loose anything. And in combination with climbable trees would be nearly perfectly easy as a save logout place because you find them everywhere. Conclusion: With this two changes the game could be made much harder without breaking it for the new spawns and this mod beeing a alpha i think this should be tried if it works as intended to force people to cooperative gameplay and not to shoot and loot as it is now. This would although make the interaction between players and the whole social mechanics of the game way more intense. As it should and would be in a zambie apocalypse. If you want to discuss this i started this idea on reddit so if you like to bash or find it interesting feel free to invest time ... http://www.reddit.co...climbing_trees/ there. yours ps: and we need a flamethrower in the game :D -
So Many Hackers, Isn't Worth Playing Anymore :(
sostronk replied to vonlinchen's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Im playing on a server that has between 1 and 4 people on during my peak hours. I worked out 2 of them are hackers (found there base and about their dead bodies duped like 200 times plus multiple helis/vehicles and a tent city with enough gear to keep me going for years). But those 2 stop playing an hour after Im ready to play so I just watch the server and wait for them to leave. Low pop is not a sure way to avoid. -
All vehichles teleported into the sea.... Help Please !!!
khanny replied to U.G.N - Jedi Panda's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
A hacker teleported all our vehicles onto the island off Solnicniy, of course pretty useless there. So we took all the wheels we could get together a dna few jerry cans, drove the lot into the sea where they are destroyed (and sink), then restart the server. Most of the vehicles respawned in thier original spawn locations, only the V3S keeps respawning on the island, we've been back now three times and every time after restart it pops back up on the island, cant figure a solution for that one but at least most of the vehicles are now available again. -
Make it Darker, Colder and more Russianesque
Nedmonds replied to Nedmonds's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You do realise how much training goes into hitting a traget 1000 metres away with a sniper rifle. Or how much training goes into surviving in harsh terrain with limited/no supplys. There are only certain areas of realism that can be maintained without killing the game. You answered some of your own questions there. Yes there would be trains abandoned on the track. Thats whe whole point, im not asking the developers to have us build our own train network. as with having a working train system after an apocolypse, why not? have the zombies ripped up the railway line? I mean the is a railway line in the game right now, it isnt used for anything but there are roads, with cars, motorbikes, quads, jeeps, vans and army vehicles. "Trains are too big, too obtuse. You would just be an even bigger target" A target for what? The people who are capable of running after a train? Arent the cars that drive about cherno beeping there hornes and flashing their lights a target? -

Hydra (DayZ) replied to Biggylepew's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Instead of flaming between games and shit, why don't we all post stories of our dickiest moments? My worst moment probably was getting picked up by a group of high-Val survivors from Kamenka, and they took me back to their camp, telling me to grab what I needed... So I grabbed a satchel charge. When we were all sitting around a campfire while one of them was taking screenshots for their clan or something, I stood up, crouched next to the fire, and set down the explosive. They thought I was fucking with the fire, and I start running into the trees. In direct, they're all basically asking each other "the fuck was that?" After I reach a safe distance, I touch off the explosive, killing 11 people. I take their gear, everything I can carry and stuff into their helicopter, then hop into their GAZ, running over all of the tents. Then I AS-50'd all of their vehicles and flew away in their helicopter, which they later shot down even though I survived it and managed to kill another one of them before they killed me. "Pics or It didn't happen?" I don't have fraps, deal with it. -
Call me crazy, but I'd rather not have child zombies in the game. Sure, they would raise the "terror factor" something fierce(undead kids moaning and running after you trying to eat you? amagawd), but gunning down "people" is bad enough. Kids would just draw parallels to some horrors of war. Perhaps some consider that appropriate in a zombie survival. I'd just consider it unneccecery. ...and if that "children survival skin" thing was serious, please, just no. Also, something people asking about better visuals should keep in mind: Performance issues. As I said before(somewhere), Arma 2 is demanding as it is, Arma 3 is a bit of a -monster-. Im pretty sure the developers of DayZ keeps this in mind, as I dont think they want their customers PCs to melt to a pile of goo. All this being said, I would love to see the following thing in the standalone(which I will definetly buy even if I dont see any of these things) - A well developed crafting system (Food recipies, gun augmentations, vehicles, make-shift explosives etc etc) - Horses as mounts! (I belive Rocket said something about this) and more animals in general - Coffee (Yes, you didnt misread.) - More guns (I heard "Find at home" common weaponry would be implemented but more military weapons would be nice too. Diversity is good.) - More traps (Perhaps part of the crafting system, but more traps that you could make or find would be really neat.) - Connected maps (Eventually. I realize this wouldnt be Alpha material, but it would be really neat if, eventually, you'd have different map models connected if you would head to the edges of the Chernarus map.) - More story material (I read something along the lines that there would be a few things about this, but the more background and story the player can dig up, the better) - Diaries! Or notepads or something! (Would be really interesting if you could loot these from other players. Could be part of the story material if you got some from zombies) - The ability to repair wrecks of vehicles (An idea of mine that would require you to have a -lot- of spare parts and a lot of work, much more so then fixing an "intact" vehicle. Would at least partially solve the clan-hoarding problem many servers are facing. If repair would not be an option, perhaps at least scavenge from vehicles? Oh and worthy of note: The few tank and BMP wreckages around would be an exception, as that would be a tad OP.) - Secret scary stuff. (Like, ghosts at Green Mountain that will only not attack you if you have a mountain dew, and would be hard as hell to kill. Or rare wood-climbing zombies that would be insanely dangerous. Or perhaps scary female zombies inspired from the witches of left4dead.) - Roaming zombie hordes (Spawn a few roaming zombie hordes of massive size. Main problem with this I suppose would be performance-related, but I think the cheer awesomeness-potential outweighs the downsides.) - More types of food (Related to crafting and cooking. I dont want to diminish the saintly status of the can of baked beans, but a greater diversity in drinks and food would be interesting. Would be even more interesting if they had some different minor qualities. ) - Radios (Since the removal of the blue channel, which I miss but understand why it was removed, I think it might be a good idea to bring back a method of long-range communications that doesnt involve the direct communications-channel. As I've understood it, these items used to be in the game, so maybe the concept was already thought of. ) ...that's all the brainstorming I could provide for now but I will probably add more later!

Ok if we are getting a stand alone version of this game i think care should be taken on not jus the mechanics of the game (rag doll physics, improved weather systems etc) But the actual environment we are playing in! For me this plays a massive part in the overall immersion and emotional aspects of the game. I already have mass panic attacks when im sitting in the trees with my sniper rifle and i hear branches breaking close to me, or when i can see mass zombies in a town and know other people are present. But even when there is no one around me im still scanning everywhere hoping to god im not going to instantly see a black you are dead screen.. This is in a game with terrible graphics and hideous bugs. I think the game should be given a darker, colder feel to it. Having it look like Soviet Russia. Snow! lots of it, the implementation of snow could allow for a few different additions to the game. Snowmobile type vehicles? Arctic camo (white gillie suit type) Blood, you shoot someone, they bleed, they run and leave a blood trail. Signs of the old soviet regime, Big Statues of Jo Stalin, Old horribly constructed palaces, full of goodies!. I mean back in the day Stalin has his tower blocks build too allow everyone to spy on their neighbours, i think these big tower blocks in citys would not only look good, they would give people cover from the mass of snipers hiding in the hills and allow for a bit of close combat/team work. There should be lakes etc, but they should also be covered in ice. Imagine having a horde of zombies after you and having to run onto an ice lake, with the fear it could crack and the lot of you could fall in at any moment :) With the weather comes the cold, the cold effects you and if your caught running about siberia in a snow storm expect to quickly die, unless you have trenching tools, tent etc. Further out of the citys could be the smaller towns, with exceptional loot and veihcles. But only the well equiped or a team could get there, this provides an incentive not to shoot everyone on sight! this will also encourage higher geared people to explore more and leave the new spawns to look for gear and friends! Guns should be more russian, i dont understand why there are so many american rifles in the game. Chopper Crashes! why cant we see this in action?? AI obviously. Running through the game you hear a chopper over head, starts spinning out of control and crashes into the map, smoke billows out and alerts every other player in the area that a chopper has gone down, this will stop people camping the crash spots and allow for a very fun situation as everyone will want the loot, but who will be willing to share :) Ill update as i think of more! All criticism is welcome constructive or not (this is the internet after all)

Does server restarting every x hours mean I shouldn't go vehicle hunting?
Entaro (DayZ) replied to HHRoblox's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The biggest problem with vehicles is that even if they are destroyed, on a restart they usually pop right back up where they were destroyed, in good condition - they rarely repopulate their original spawn points. -
Heli stuck under the sea - As Server Admin, how can we fix this?

vehicles are server side no? -
I roleplay as a village idiot/comedy clown type guy to provide comic relief. I pretend to hump people when they have their backs turned, chase after rabbits like a retarded cocker spaniel, initiate roly poly races down hills, lob flares at people in the dark and generally annoy other players not in my team(well I usually end up annoying them too). My latest funny was cycling a bike up and down the road just outside Elektro on a night server calling everyone shooting at me "bawbags" and "fannies" cos they couldn't seem to hit me. In the end I smacked into a zed and knocked myself unconscious. I find the game is so unintentionally hilarious which is a big draw for me. I hope the standalone doesn't lose this. My next thing will be to more of a prankster. Bear traps at the top of ladders, satchel charges on tents/vehicles/bodies, lobbing nades on sniper hill etc

it's bugging me right now, it sure is gonna bug me even more in the standalone. I'm talking about the vehicle details display in the top left corner. How can a player can magically tell how his car is doing, on a chromatic scale6 A fuel gauge display, for one, is sorta okay. It's the kind of information you can get as a driver in any motorized vehicle. Same goes for speed. But to know how "well" your engine or your fuel tank itself is doing? Not so much. A better header would be the sound of the engine. a damaged engine would make a much worse sound than a tiptop one. At best, have a on/off warning display reading CHECK ENGINE once the engine gets damaged a bit (say, if its condition is under 80%). For the fuel tank, only how fast your are using fuel should be your direct indicator. Again, same for the wheels. You'd either need to listen carefully to the car rolling around or simply to get out and do a manual inspection. Back for the engine or the fuel tank, there you would need to do a manual inspection to see how well they are doing. Requiring a toolbox, it would become a scroll-down option to do an engine check or to see how the fuel tank is doing. Here, even, you wouldn't get an absolute informative report of the well-being of those parts. You'd get a message along the lines of: "The engine looks good, but could need a bit of repair" or "The engine looks damaged, almost beyond repair" - "You see gas leaking out quickly out of the fuel tank" or "Maybe a patch or two and the fuel tank should be okay" Of course, each vehicle would need a custom header and display. About tires, many (if not all) heavy-weight trucks (think Ural/V3S) have systems to tell the driver if all the tires have enough air pressure. In their case, then, having a [WHEEL] display would be acceptable. Only, also, maybe not a chromatic one. A "Low Pressure" indicator would appear instead.

if i would live in a zombie apocalypse i would try to make my car zombie proof cause i wouldn't enjoy walking around. Zombies could destroy your car slices and pull pull you out, or you stuck in a mob of zeds and your car cant brake through, or you crash into zombies and your car seriously takes damage. Adding grids and a battering ram could save your live. @Zeppa I only searched in this forum about tuning cars/vehicles. But thanks for information

Building your own gun, something for the standalone.
Puffy replied to Puffy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I've been told not to crosspost, besides people post it there all the time. ALSO, another thing to think about. WHAT IF: We could customize our vehicles?? -
I would like to see the possibility of modifying your vehicles like in some zombie movies. After repairing you could add armor against zeds, make it bullet resistant against bandits, a front shield as battering ram, spinning blades at the wheels, extra fuel tank, machinegun on pickups, improved engine... Without the extra armor the zombies are able to damage the vehicle and hurt you. But for those modifications you need also construction plans and parts, so that it's hard to get a fully improved car. All extra parts have a weight and will slow down the vehicle so you need the improved engine. What do you think about that? It would give the longterm goal to get a fully optimized car.

I admit it, I am a Chernarus fanboy :) Lingor was a nice, little place for vacation, but now that the server switched back to the original map, its feeling like coming home. Like Byrgesen said, the long distances, endless woods and meadows are what adds to the feeling of being a lone survivor of an apocalypse. Having to run several miles for your gear and searching for vehicles is what makes it feel worth it and you will regard your efforts much higher cause you worked hard for it. Therefor you will take much more care to stay alive and defend/hide your belongings. Plus you will always think twice (or even thrice), cause dying in the northern part will make you have a nasty long walk back to your corpse. That simply is what DayZ is supposed be. -
The Game - A Hacker's PoV
Angel Knight replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I realize that the cons may sound like not such a big deal, but let me give you a few examples of why these can be bad: Admin abuse cannot be reported. Period. If you annoy the admin in any way, you are gone. If someone says you're a hacker, the admin may just ban you without investigating. If you find a car and the admin wants it, you're gone. Etc. More loot and vehicles sounds good, but on one private hive I ventured into, there were silenced guns in every fire station and 2-3 vehicles in every city. Might as well go play BF3. Starting with more gear sounds good too, except that one particular server I know of lets you 'buy' guns. Making a donation to the owner meant you would always spawn with an L85AWS, and the larger donators would always spawn with a car. All I'm saying is, be careful which server you pick. Some of the private hives are worse than public hives. -

Rage VG replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ah, but in retaliation you could say "Why play on a server that makes you work harder for your items, where vehicles are a miracle, only to be dropped into the ocean randomly and admins can't do anything about it?" The hilarity of that fact only just dawned on me. -

What I mean by the private hive "cheating", for exmaple, is my friends. "Why play on a server that hands you vehicles easier, starts you out with weapons, where the admins can abuse their power!" so on and so forth. And, to begin with, Private hives were frowned upon. On the contrary, once again. The mod can be corrected by giving admins the tools they need to make the game a safer environment for the player. "You **** wads" is a remark based that there is a specific group of people like me. I don't intend to "hack ****" or "attack a company", I am simply extorting a game in a form that can be corrected based on actions done by people like me, or learn from our mistakes. -
The Game - A Hacker's PoV
Angel Knight replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you use DayZ Commander, private hives are marked with a small X to left of the server name. Your characters on other servers have no effect here, and you will have to make one from scratch. Pros for private hives: 1. Admins have significantly more power. If you smell like a hacker, they can ban you without having to provide logs. 2. More/better loot and vehicles, if the admin has chosen to create it that way. 3. Side chat is usually enabled. 4. Sometimes you start with more gear. Cons for private hives: 1. Admins have significantly more power. If you smell like a hacker, they can ban you without having to provide logs. 2. More/better loot and vehicles, if the admin has chosen to create it that way. 3. Side chat is usually enabled. 4. Sometimes you start with more gear. -
All vehichles teleported into the sea.... Help Please !!!
Pantera22 replied to U.G.N - Jedi Panda's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If this is true then that is just so stupid. Admins of the servers should be able to do something about this and not have to wait 7 days to only go fix vehicles again and then poof their gone once again and this happens over and over. To me vehicles is what makes the game fun.. yes I don't believe in having a ton of them but I think respawning should be a bit faster and maybe even the spawn locations at different spots each time they are respawned. I am on a server now and vehicles disappeared a few days after they just got the server back up for like 2 weeks of down time. We lost all 3 we had and we went out looking for the ones we seen broken down the night before and nothing was found, 3 other vehicles that were there the night before vanished. I haven't seen a vehicle since for about 3 days now. If I have to keep fixing vehicles over and over and run from are camp all the way back to some good industrial spots for parts to fix another or the same one... well to me just not worth it and might as well just get rid of them all then. I just hate taking 3 hours or more to fix a vehicle to only have it vanish the next day by either hive mess ups or hackers. -
Hello everyone, I'm Retr0. I am 21 years old and have been playing DayZ since the beginning of the mod. I have had great times with this game, and have had bad times. I am now known as "Global Ban #6796". Here are some statistics that I found throughout my travels and tests, that you may find interesting. :WARNING: This post is not about crying, pity, or name-calling. No people we're kill in my experiences with scripting/hacking (Many of which I have made myself.) If you are here to name-call, cry, or claim self-pity. Please go to another thread. To start this thread on the right foot, there are many claims about hacking on the forums, problems with hackers, and general scripting encounters throughout DayZ. These claims are completely true, and it is rampant in the community, but how bad is it? -Test #1- Test #1 was conducted on September 2nd, 2012. This test included 20 random servers between the populations of 10-30 at my current peak time. As follows; each server had about 10 minutes spent on each one. Here are the results: Of the 20 servers, 16 had signs of hacker activity. These servers had tent cities on the edge of the map, containing loot such as 10+ satchel charges. 1 server had 4 helicopters at one camp location. 1 server had a yellow URAL (Illegitimate spawn) at a camp in the north. Multiple servers had "All" of the vehicles at said camp locations (Including the boats). One thing these servers all had in common, they were all barricaded in with sandbags, hedge hogs, and barbed wire, and I mean immense amounts of them. 4 of these particular servers had non-DayZ loot, 1 particular camp having 10 "Laser Designators", however all had items such as AK-107s. -Test #2- Test #2 was conducted on September 8th, 2012. This test included 10 random servers, all between the populations of 30-40 at my current peak time. The players on these servers were teleported to, attempted to give loot to, and/or vehicles. As follows; each server had an estimated 30 minutes on each one. Here are the results: Of these 10 servers, 8 had signs of SIGNIFICANT hacker activity. 4 of these servers I teleported to random players on the map. On these particular servers, the "victim" teleported away. (Now let's hold up a minute Retr0! What do you mean teleported, they just ALT-F4'd!) WRONG. The Maphack I was using continued to show these players on the map, 1000m+ away from me. 1 server in particular, I had to beat it out of the "victim". I asked if he wanted loot, the victim refused. I asked if the victim wanted a helicopter, again, the victim refused. At this point, the victim spawned ME a medical box (Known as the "super box") with loot inside that I DID NOT HAVE. 2 of the servers I was dropped in the water and killed within 5 minutes of spawning. The last remaining server had a person spawned in Rocket skin, as they say, "Nuff said". The Conclusion Unfortunately for me, on September 12th, 2012, I was globally banned. Fortunate for all other players as this kind of play is not and will not be tolerated under any circumstances, even for the "greater good" of the alpha. However, hopefully this will show someone that the hacking is absolutely RAMPANT, it is out of hand, and it is ruining players experiences. So what am I trying to achieve? To Whom it may Concern, In the future of the mod DayZ, and in the upcoming Alpha, the gamebreaker will be the detection and eradication of said players conducting foul play. In the current state of the game, allow server owners to ban those suspicious of hacking and/or scripting. This will have some consequences such as abuse, but in the long run, it will be better for the community as a whole. I've been told many times by admins I'll get banned, however they did not have the proof to find me as guilty. The current state of bypasses and script-plugin's with built in bypasses will not log certain actions. Any script redeemed client side only will not log, such as gearboxes, the only thing I've been caught for is "CreateVehicle Restriction" pertaining to a server-side script. The future relies on these factors. :WARNING: I will not accept requests for hacks, scripts, places to get such things. I will personally report messages and/or posts requesting said things. I will not be responsible for you, or anyone else, I will not replace any cd-keys and I will not enhance your game experience. You have been warned.

Community Dying? Too many hackers?
[email protected] replied to Pauijay's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The hackers are there ruining your experience. Trust me. Ever heard of Navigator? It's a dayz map hack that require no bypass to use, its simply an .exe you run once you start the game. With it one gets a handy birds eye view of every player, vehicle, corpse, and tent in the game. Its been undetected for at least a month now. I assure you on any populated server SOMEONE is running it. Your tents aren't safe, your vehicles aren't safe. It doesn't take much to ruin a game of DayZ, the smart hackers aren't out there causing thunderdomes, no they're out there in the bushes, lieing low but slowly destroying any semblance of a survival game dayZ ever had. -

TheDesigner replied to Pauijay's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Have you noticed the 1.2 million people who play this game, and school time would not effect it that much? Yes, many people are quitting due to hackers, but not because the game is horrible, or that it's an alpha. Hacking isn't part of an alpha. Nothing surprises me more, name something and I've done it, many time. Shootouts? Boring. Helicopters? Buggy and boring. Vehicles? Buggy and boring. Meeting people and giving them everything I have just so I can start over? Done it so many times that it's boring (not everything, but my GPS and NVGs and such). -
Treasure Island - New Lingor server - max vehicle spawns
cash4gold replied to cash4gold's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yeah, we had two admins on at the time, myself included. Guy was teleporting himself around to where people had vehicles and camps, ours included. He was also invincible. Not cool. The usual log checks were not helping this time. Nothing hinting at hacks in any of the logs except public variable... which is usually clean but for suddenly filled up to 1.8MB of garbage out of nowehere, making it impossible to differentiate legit data from hacks. Might even be the same guy, just server hopping on VIlayer Hive. -

Yea because Battlefield 3 doesn't have huge maps, destruction, or vehicles. It also has kill steak rewards and they didn't roll out a new engine.
