Suggestions to Lengthen the DayZ Play Experience

Having played and enjoyed this game for about three weeks now, I'm hitting a wall. I knew my time in DayZ was nearing an end when I willingly jumped off Zub castle just to have some fun again as a fresh spawn. Zeds are no longer a threat. Most of the time I just ignore them or lose them. Bottom line is that PvE holds no more excitement. I've legitimately earned all the gear, fixed up a few vehicles, etc. From an rpg perspective there is not much left to do. Now that the rpg and survival mechanics have faded, at this point the game has devolved into a simple FPS. As someone who's played FPS games since, well, they were invented, I am a bit jaded here. If I'm going to play an FPS it has to bring something new to the table. Here are the available playstyles at this point: 1. Become a bandit - This is the easy route, since you just shoot anything that moves. This does not appeal to me as a player. I do like the fact that there are bandits, and I have no problems with those who want to play like that. Unfortunately the alternatives are not fully supported by the game mechanics. 2. Hunt bandits - The bandit/hero/survivor ID system does not function well. If you want to keep your humanity you can't shoot at people in camo or ghillie, since you can't be sure of their status unless you have the time to observe them killing multiple players (rare). Bandits know this of course, and this creates a very wierd dynamic. Firstly it means that if you want to be identified as a hero/survivor you can't wear the camo or ghillie suits, which is not a good play mechanic imho. It also means that the easiest way to ID bandits is to see them when they first spawn, and haven't had time to get new clothes. So wannabe bandit hunters are actually driven to do something distasteful and unsportsmanlike: shoot fresh spawns. Bandit hunting is also more difficult because bandits only represent about 15% of players, so your available targets are fewer. On a server with 25 players there may be only 4 bandits. Good luck finding them. 3. Become a medic - Some players enjoy this playstyle, and I respect them for it. I would bodyguard for a medic but I don't want to be one. Another problem is that medics get shot in the face too often. Medics really need some way to be identified as medics. 4. Escort/protect noobs - This might appeal to some people I suppose, but it's not my favored playstyle. Even if the above-mentioned player ID problems are resolved, it's still just an FPS, albeit one with long down-times and a huge death penalty. That is a point of distinction, but not enough to keep me playing. Suggestions to increase the play longevity: 1. More rpg elements - Make gear harder to get or more rare in order to lengthen the aquisition time. Add more survival elements like cooking, crafting, weapon customization, etc. The more players feel that they are really struggling to survive in a zombie apocalypse, the better. Add more placeables and allow players to build meaningful encampments or even take over or fortify some buildings. 2. More PvW (player vs. world) difficulty - Food and water are way to common. I am never in danger of dying from thirst or starvation. That game mechanic holds no meaning. Neither does the heat system. I don't even pick up heat packs since they serve no purpose. Survival should be a bitch. I should be forced to go into towns just to eat. Finding an animal in the wilderness should be very rare. I should be truly motivated to shoot other players for their beans or to band with them to increase our survival chances. Also, solo players shouldn't have to eat meat to heal. That's just stupid and it breaks immersion. Add some kind of med kit for the single player, available at hospitals. It shouldn't be as effective as a transfusion. 3. More PvE difficulty - Rank the infected. Soldiers>Hunters>Civilians in terms of toughness and damage. Maybe even add some military infected with guns, like the ones in STALKER. They can't shoot for shit but the bullets are deadly. Consider also adding small roving groups of quasi-military NPC survivors in the north that are hostile to all players. 4. Fix the player ID system. It's been suggested before that if you hover your crosshairs over another player for 2-3 seconds they will be identified. That might work. I may still fire up DayZ now and then for a quick zombie fix but for the most part I'm done. I'll be keeping an eye on the Standalone. And for all the idiots on these forums who will inevitably interpret this as a QQ thread, I hope a zombie eats your face. -
I'm so sick of people ruining the server. What is the point of teleporting all vehicles/tents etc to one spot? Probably not gonna pay for next month, it's pointless.

You can add/remove vehicle spawns, see where vehicles are located, adjust players starting loadout, turn on the whitelist feature to block unknown players, see where players were on your server, hmm I'm sure there's more but I can't think of anything else right now. It's definitely for advanced users who know what they're doing and isn't user-friendly. I'm working on making those features integrated in the control panel (a map overlay that lets you drag and drop vehicles onto it and see where they are currently spawned is the goal).

Why would we risk our server getting taken down by doing something like this. He was banned because we made a mistake with Dart Rcon Tool when banning the cheater who was teleporting and spawning vehicles. (:

seriously? 5-10 ? more then there are normal cars? that is ridiculous. I like it. I like a little bit more variation of vehicles but there should not be more then 3 or so pro server marshrutka's that is.

I was just driving an army truck on the above server, approx 19:28 gmt 15/9/12 all of a sudden it teleported me somewhere else in the woods, figured hackers so just kept driving so didnt get shot at! and it kicked me out the game saying admin ban : spawning vehicles???? i was driving one not spawning them! now it wont let me back on that server?!?! I DONT HACK!!! daz

Hey guys, had fun last night playing on your server, decided to try a private hive server for the first time. Found myself wondering how to play in this apparently more tighly knit and perhaps friendlier community with a side chat on and all. I usually play a lone wolf who avoids trouble by avoiding other players, wasn't sure what to do if someone asks "anyone in cherno?" while I was there :P. Stalked some of you guys loot Cherno hospital from roughly 30 meters away, was looting the apartments opposite when suddenly a chick with M14 and roadflares showed up with bunch of guys with vehicles. I guess I should have anounced my presence to meet some friendlies (?), but my chernarus woodhermit instincts took over I just observed what you guys were up to. Anyway, seems like a great server to play on, looking forward to some fun times. -
Only one I know of is through DayZ Commander. The update added new spawns positions, added new vehicles, changed max vehicle limit to 80 and some other bug fixes.

we have now this problem all us vehicles and us camping tents with all us equipment is lost... we have no vehicles more and weapons usw... we dont know where us vehicles and camping tents are

Official hive servers are named with the default (required) "DayZ - US ####" or "DayZ - UK ####" depending on location. These came from the new setpos.txt. A lot of people either died or disconnected short after and all our vehicles were gone too (hugging the ocean floor I guess). It has nothing to do with people being "obsessed" with major cities. The simple fact is there is very little reason to go to a place like the NE airfiled, it's a heck of a long way to travel just for 2 hangars and a control tower, nothing interesting or unique spawns there and in the unlikely event that someone IS there you're a sitting duck for snipers. The NWAF has more than twice as many loot spawns plus it has unique items that can't spawn anywhere else on the map. Spreading the loot around the map is pointless if there's nothing to do once you get the loot, which is the current situation we have now. DayZ is a "sandbox" experience but in its current form it's a pretty empty sandbox with too few toys to play with. Hopefully standalone can address that. Makes perfect sense when you think about it. People specifically choose low populated servers to get loot or vehicles, if I saw a server with 10 players or less I'd bet money that at least one of them was at the NWAF. -

I have been hanging around the NE airfield for a few days now and no one ever comes up here.. it seems people are so obsessed with the major cities that other areas of chernarus become ghost towns What incentive is there to go anywhere else if you can quickly gear up and shoot people in cherno/elektro? besides hoarding gear/vehicles ofc The standalone needs to scatter the best loot around the map otherwise there is no point in having a big map imo does anyone else live out in the sticks or am I just retarded? -
As stated there is literally nothing we can do vs actual hackers using a bypass they can get caught out with direct chat sometimes or if they get killed but those times are rare. People running scripts willy nilly are different they actually show in the logs and can be dealt with, I have to say at least 70% of the times the server has someone teleporting or the vehicles all get teleported etc there is nothing in the logs at all. Pretty much every time the server fills up some arab hacking son of a bitch fucks up peoples playing time and alot of players are sick of it. Even when its emptyish they still come on like this morning 4 of us in the server some guy comes on and starts teleporting around shooting us, fun.

Up until recently we were hosting US 2881, a public hive server. Due to all the hackers and inability for us to do much of anything about them, we have decided to go private hive. We would like to build a community of players around our server that want to have fun and play DayZ. You won't be banned for killing admins or stealing our vehicles though we may hunt you down like the bandit you are.! :P Features: - Running a Bliss 50-slot private hive server on a VPS - meaning there aren't other DayZ servers on the same machine. - Running 24/7 - Veteran Difficulty - 3rd: On - Tracers: Off - NP: Off - CH: On - DM: On - Currently 130 vehicles including 2 helicopters (this may change) - Custom Heli Loot (removed L85 and AS50, put in new weapons) - Always Full Moon at night - Custom buildings for groups / clans - Vehicles / Tents properly saving - Side Chat enabled (though we don't want people using it for voice chat) - Updates / restarts happen pretty fast and you get prior notice - Server in US - Database backups every 30 minutes - Whitelist, application process and password used to minimize hackers - Our own private Mumble voice chat server Rules: Things not allowed No hacking No duping intentionally No ghosting - pretty much this shouldn't be possible on our private hive, but just in case someone finds a way to do it.. don't. No hoarding of vehicles - if you're two people, you don't need 5 vehicles. If your group has 1 helicopter, leave the others alone. This does not mean you can't steal vehicles from others, it just means don't create a parking lot of unused vehicles. No Alt + F4'ing to escape other players. Don't care if you do this to get away from zombies. Refrain from killing fresh spawns. You won't get banned if you happen to kill one, mostly what we mean here is don't camp the beaches looking for new spawns to kill. (Robbing, taking em hostage is fine). No using barbed wire or tank traps to block off popular spawn sites (fire stations, churches, etc). Exceptions to this are if you are inside the building at the time or if you are using the location as your home base. No begging admins for weapons or vehicles. If we want you to have it, we will add it as a spawn to the map where everyone can compete for it. No VOIP in side chat. We don't wanna hear your music, heavy breathing, TV, etc. No trolling or harassment over side chat. No excessive use of bad language, racist comments, basically use your common sense. We're not gonna kick your for expressing your displeasure in the fact that we just killed you, but just don't go overboard. Things we DO allow Kill on sight (KOS) is allowed though we encourage you to interact more with other players as we are trying to build a community here. Bandits are welcome, though we'd much prefer you truly play a bandit - hostage taking, robbing, etc are encouraged over just shooting on sight, though you won't get punished for KOS. Base building at major locations. If you can protect it, it's within your rights to own any spot on the map. Be prepared to really have to fight hard for the more popular spots. Role-playing is encouraged though not required. Anyone purposefully trolling or abusing someone attempting to roleplay will be dealt with harshly. Forming your own groups / clans. We'd love to have other active players on the server, whether bandit or survivor. If somehow you lose your gear / vehicles due to a hacker, the admins will work on replacing what we can. If you lose it due to zombies, bugs or glitch, we will not replace it. Sorry for this but it's impossible for us to prove you really lost the stuff this way. Interested in joining? On private hive servers you may find more Arma2 vehicles.. depending of the server/network. In example the police car..

Vilayer has added the: Chinook, Little Bird (Posted above), UH Rescue Chopper, Venom (With hydra missiles), Humvee (with working machine gun on top), AC130J, AA Tank, plus a few more surprise vehicles. We can now have up to 80 vehicles spawn in. Pretty awesome

Dayz update 1.7.2.6 Cars and heli still respawns after restart

Yes, do not click 'Restart' in rcon, it will break everything (I thought it actually despawned all vehicles not moved them back to start locations). You have to shut down and then start up the server for it to read from the hive again.
