Every morning I check if there are vehicles broken beyond repair and respawn them somewhere (the standard spawnpoints) in a state players can fix it again. In official servers the hive does this, I have to do it manually ;) I cant really see how vehicles got broken. -
Instead of having #shutdown shouldn't i put #restart there because i want it to restart and not shutdown? Still hoping that in standalone I can throw camo covers over my vehicles, better for hiding the bright white offroad and such rather than bushes. Still like the idea.

I killed what appeared to be a fresh spawn today. I felt bad for him but I didn't regret it. He was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Allow me... I had logged into my new 'home' server and spawned at our Lingor Island base to find it had been raided, and the clan was out searching for the culprits. I was tasked to meet with another clansman and check the area around Benio for evidence of rival clan activity. We made our way there and swept the area to find little of note. As we proceeded back towards the main island we heard a car. A quick check through teamspeak confirms its none of us, but likely one of our vehicles... So my collegue and I set up a hasty ambush. We allow the vehicle to pass by us into Benio. Theres only one road in and out, so they'd be coming back at us shortly. We wait for a few minutes and sure enough, here they come. We hold fire until they're good and close and then light it up. Our mission is revenge, not retrieve. To be honest, the vehicle didn't mean much to us... We will get more... We scored a few good hits and perhaps even caused an injury or two, but the driver was quite wiley, and managed to get past us. We report the result of the ambush and proceed after it (indirectly) on foot. About a minute into our pursuit I spot an unarmed individual coming towards us. He didn't seem a threat but we had just engaged a group who had fled in this-ish direction. I had to consider the possibility that this fellow might be some sort of bait or distraction, perhaps even an enemy informant. As I said at the start, wrong place wrong time. I opened fire and killed him. As soon as I saw his death message we were back on task. A few seconds later he wrote in side-chat "What did you get out of killing me? A box of pain-killers?" I understand what he must have felt. Getting gunned down at the start of the game sucks hard. I do apologize for this action but again, I don't regret it. We're at war, and we aim to win it. Folk are gonna get gunned down simply for 'being there', it's the nature of the game... So dude, if you read this, sorry if i pissed you off or made you lose faith in the 'good' folk that play DayZ. Under different circumstances we probably would have helped you out or let you tag along. If/when I need to use your painkillers, I'll spare a thought for you. Cheers, random dude.

I'm very interested to see how you remake the inventory system. I think it would be really cool if you had like a picture of a human in a cross shape, and each body part had a reading (similar to that of vehicles, e.g. red engine, orange fueltank you would have red legs if they are broken which would change to green when morphine is applied). As for the weapons, definately more civilian style weapons. It feels like automatic rifles are far too common atm, there should be MANY more pistols/police weapons, maybe a baton(or whatever that poking stick that they use it called) or a taser? -

Hey metalica, I run a private hive called DayzInfection. We are a full time day server so there is no need for NVG's and your 15 hour days would be filled with excitement.We are about done with beta testing and will be installing dupe fixes and other game glitches so you have the best experience However we do allow heavy duty sniper rifle's but we actually don't see many people with them. A team of 5 on the server actually has been playing one week and found a DMR. Our Vehicle count is 70+ and we run white-listing on our server threw an application process (Yeah, we like to review before we just let you in ;) ) Feel free to check the server out, see what you like or don't like. We will be doing a server reset shortly so all vehicles will be up for grabs. Along with a Saturday event where you can win a police car ;) -

hey guys! joining this server today (or tomorrow, waiting to be whiteliste =) ) i wanted to ask if any group of players need another companion. i can play lonewolf, but playing in a group is much more fun imho. my spoken english is pretty good, although im german, and i am familiar with several playstyles (survivor, light bandit, heavy bandit, kos (although i dont like kos and wont do it)), playin dayz few months now. im familiar with the game, i can drive vehicles including helis, im a pretty good sniper and - most important - im a social person with a not-too-wierd sense of humor =). still im beginning form scratch, so dont expect a well equipped teammate. on the other hand, i dont wanna leech anything, i wanna deserve it. so long, keep the zombies away from you. they should stay hungry as they are! -

Hi, We just wanted to announce that our private hive server is now running the new map Panthera. It's an awesome map, with nearly all buildings enterable There are a few new vehicles including ambulances / police cars /choppers and a Vodnik :D. Starting loadout has been slightly modified, you now start with a pistol and one clip. Not enough to turn it into a pvp, but just enough bullets to maybe save your life once ;-) Side chat is enabled, although voice over chat is not allowed, players abusing this will be removed to avoid disrupting other peoples games. Anyway, drop by, chill, have some fun surviving. Hi to all at DayZ community, since the most recent battleye update my PC keeps on freezing up, can't task manager out, alt tab out or alt f4 out, just get a total lock up and i have to do a manual shutdown, which is NOT good for PC's or my patience, indeed doing things in vehicles especially flying in a chopper is highly risky and could cause me and my buddies to die in a horrible fire :( I am not the only 1 this has happened to, all my friends have had the same problem since the BE update, we play on a vilayer server, could this be the problem ?? Has this happened to anyone else ?, in which case i strongly advise the DayZ devs to look at this as i'm sure they won't buy me and my buds' a new PC each. Slightly pissed, Sudz. (still love the game tho, please, please do something or advise if i can do something to help overcome this silly bug, thx) :beans: :beans: :beans:

Hey guys, I've been playing dayz now for a cpl of months. I've gone from scatty noob to semi experienced survivor. I have a friend which I team up with regularly, when we first started playing we used to get so frustrated with player killers, especially as new spawns. But now I understand why there are many player killers out there and shoot on sight mentality. We both are geared up to our eye balls, have a cpl of vehicles and have just been spending our dayz surviving. As we are so tooled up we suffer from extreme paranoia, seeing another player within close proximity makes us do what we hated ppl do to us and that's shoot on sight!!! We do not go out our way to hunt players down (except when we see snipers picking ppl off in towns) but if we incounter a player in the same room or building we end up shooting without warning to protect what we have. It's taken us dayz to find the gear we have and we can't risk hoping the other player is not going to shoot at us. I love this game for the way it makes you think and react to scenarios differently depending on your circumstance. Has anyone else found as you Collect better gear the more protective you become or are my friend and I turning to the dark side?

Hi all. In this three months of playing Dayz, I've created my own idea of how the game should be. Anyone that played enough, knows that unfortunately, the pure aspects of survival are a little put away, because the 90% of times, a player dies by another player's hands. Most players kill on sight. My suggestion is: - in bigger cities, in random time intervals, must be dropped a military squad (AI controlled) with the purpose of restabilish order and law, clearing the city by zeds and snipers. They will shoot at bandits and let survivors enter in the safe zone of the city. To do so, the number of zombies spawned must be doubled and made as continuos flow, so that after a while all soldiers die (running out of ammo), but survivors can help to make this delayed as more as possible - who choose to be a bandit, has to deal with his responsibilities: they cannot enjoy the free access in the city, but they can risk entering safe zone, being a bandit to the bone :) (have the balls?) - in game there are too few usable vehicles (not so realistic). More vehicles=more fun=more map exploring. - bandits must have a price put on their head. It may appear that in this situation, bandits are being disadvantaged, but in my opinion, this isn't true. In this way, being a bandit has more sense and it's more fun, on the other hand, being a simple survivor is more similar to reality. In my opinion, this are more balanced in this way, and it can be made easily. What do you think about it? -

Its hard to find players who are good at this game. When you do things are alot easier. Id never bother trying to repair most vehicles in this game as a lonewolf. Even two wheels and some scrap metal is an outright pain in the ass to gather to fix a bike as far as Im concerned. With a group I run with occasionally, even repairing a chopper doesn't take very long. There are alot of tasks you can set yourself to do. But the fact is most people I run into are terrible at this game, they aren't organized and most of all my likelihood of dieing is increased dramatically when I am working with them. TBH Ive run into some fairly decent skilled survivors who can outplay me enough to survive. I think the main issue with the KOS mentality is that people need to skill up, whether they are a survivor, bandit or hero, because most people are really easy to kill. On the other hand there are a few regulars I run into in some of my main servers who make it so frustratingly difficult to kill them that I literally give up and go loot myself. -

Almost useless, except I wasn't kicking people for driving vehicles. I find it very dangerous to use these rigorous measures when nobody here has 100% knowledge of ARMA2 and DayZ mechanics (vide your post just one page ago where you said nobody should have a horn in their inventory at any given time). -
No, kinda "There is no more heli to take a screenshot from" !!! ^^ We can take down the complete damn forest with stachels/vehicles, but this will not fix the problem because on the next server restart all trees are back, with the exploding heli on top. AND THERE IS NO MORE HELI AFTER EXPLOSION, NOT EVEN A DESTROYED BODY (sorry for capslock, but i am tired to repeating this ^^).

Perhaps.There are also places you could go right now and be given free stuff for doing nothing more than being an obnoxious, loud-mouthed, parasite and blight to humanity (see: every celebrity ever). What exactly is your point? It seems like you are in some fictional reality where you get to pick and choose what rules exist in a given scenario. In your reality everything is modelled on war-torn Africa or some other god forsaken place, run by militia and terrorists - and while many other areas of the world may decend into that sort of chaos, the level seen in DayZ simply wouldn't exist in a civilised society. The reason for this is that history has shown us that over thousands of years regardless of the assholes of the universe, good people exist and are often punished and often become collateral to these assholes. And believe me, most civilisations of the past were FAR less civilised than we are today and yet more civilised than we see in DayZ, so I don't see why you believe we would decend into less civilised beings. But this is all conjecture and neither here nor there. The pertinent facts are these: there are a shit tonne of people (many on these forums) who would like to actually play as survivors, but because of bandits, and because of pre-emptive attacks made by other survivors, end up dead; and it cascades into what we have now where everyone shoots everyone because no one trusts no one. In a real situation these sorts of things wouldn't happen quite so quickly. You'd be able to hide a lot more easily from people, you could tell "by the look" of others what their intentions were. That's simply not the case in DayZ. Another often overlooked feature of DayZ vs real life is *skills*. A doctor is likely not going to be killed because his skills would be invaluable. In DayZ where everybody is a doctor, chef, survivalist, "cop, soldier, office clerk, waitress, lumber jack, race car driver, rocket scientist and unicorn" there's simply no need, or repercussion, to not keeping someone alive. When I speak of "realistic" aspects I simply mean those that justify in-game mechanics; and DayZ seems to have an incredibly unrealistic platform and I don;t particularly see it being fixed unless restrictions or repurcussions are imposed on people who choose to simply PvP rather than work together. And even then rocket has actually supported meta-gaming, meaning groups of bandits can work together in ways that gives them even more power to prevent survivors from working together to achieve ... well there's not much to achieve is there? Edit: Another facet of my discussion is this: many players believe that there is actually goals to achieve in DayZ and that working together is an important part of these goals. Can someone enlighten me? Working in a group hasn't worked for me, and people seem to only be able to say "it changes the game" without saying how. Besides working together to find missing parts for vehicles I don't know what team work can accomplish, nor what purpose getting a vehicle has. By the time you get one up and running you're probbaly already well stocked, and with an infinite suply of food and ammo it's not like you're heading for "somewhere better". That's beside the point though: what exactly can players achieve and achieve "together"? /incoherent rant -

Ahh, the magic of DayZ - vehicles change owners fast as lightning :P And they were hidden not off map, it was still in the boundaries of it. And anyone is thinking about some form of cooperation ? Maybe making a big camp with wire, sandbags and tents ? Because me and my team would like to do something like that, a litte form of two way help. It's easier to do, because of the nametags, so people can recognize each other. And BTW - LuCiD, you and your friend were driving an ATV yesterday, north of the NW airfield, near Bashnya ? -

I joined the server again tonight, and was upset to see the vehicles had respawned in the spot i blew them up at, with all of the same gear. I'm going to do something else to prevent them from coming back here. -
