Heads up I want to state that I am aware that there was a thread on this topic before. In my eyes the idea was not fleshed out well enough and the general presentation of the suggestion was less than mediocre. For this reason I am posting my own thread on this topic. Cars and other Vehicles are a valuable asset in DayZ. They are rather hard to get hands on, and even harder to keep your hands on. In the last couple of days me and my squad fixed repaired about 4 vehicles and stole another 2 or 3 from their stash. All of them where stolen from various locations around the map from us again by now. This is the reality for thousands of players every day. And I believe in it's core this is a good thing. However, since obviously every character in DayZ knows how to hot-wire a car (or keys are always kept behind the sunblind), there is only one way of securing your vehicle while you are offline: hide it, as good as you can, as far away from any spot a person could randomly pass by. And here I believe DayZ could do better. Randomly stumbling across a car and stealing it should be possible, but also I think it would be nice to be able to secure a car against random stealing, at least to some degree. If you head out, well prepared, to look for a car and then steal it, you should absolutely be able to, and no game mechanic should prevent you from doing that. But if you just stroll around the landscape and come across a car you should not be able to easily steal it, if it's owner has applied some security measures. Such security measures could come in the form of wheel clamps (aka wheel locks or immobilizers). Wheel clamps can be applied to any car, making the wheel which they are applied to unusable. Wheel clamps can be removed in two fashions: either regularly by unlocking it or forcibly by using a crowbar. Removing it forcibly however, would render the wheel it was attached to unusable, making it harder to relocate the vehicle after removing the wheel clamp. Finding a wheel clamp Wheel clamps would be very rare industrial or farm loot spawns. Making them only farm loot spawns would balance them out gameplay wise a bit better, since you wouldn't be able to find them easily while looking for the other parts to fixup your car, requiring you to search for them separately and thus actually invest additional resources to improve the security of your vehicle. Wheel clamps would take up three inventory slots (they are heavy and bulky after all). Applying a wheel clamp To apply a wheel clamp to a vehicle, you need to have the wheel clamp in your inventory and be adjacent to a car while looking at it. The action menu of the car will then show a "Clamp <wheel>" option for each wheel on the vehicle. E.g. a motorcycle would show a "Clamp front wheel" and "Clamp rear wheel" option. Clamping an already clamped wheel is not possible. After selecting the clamp wheel option, your character would perform an action animation, just as it does when you fix a part of a vehicle. As it finishes the wheel clamp is removed from your inventory and a wheel clamp appears on the wheel. The wheel of the car is now clamped and rendered useless for as long as the clamp remains attached. Driving with a wheel clamp A vehicle with an attached wheel clamp will behave as if the clamped wheel was broke down. Also, driving with an attached wheel clamp will actually break the wheel it is attached to, rendering it useless even after the clamp was removed regularly. Lastly, it is not possible to replace or remove a clamped wheel at any time. Removing a wheel clamp regularly To remove a wheel clamp regularly the character who has applied the wheel clamp will have to approach the vehicle again and select the "Unclamp <wheel>" option from the action menu. Note that only the character who has applied the clamp is able to remove it again regularly (as if only he had the keys to the clamp). If the character dies, it won't be possible to remove the clamps regularly anymore. After choosing to remove the clamp regularly the player will perform the typical action animation, remove the clamp from the car and place it in his inventory, given he has 3 slots available. If the player does not have 3 slots free in his inventory, the unclamping will fail with the message "Not enough inventory slots". Removing a wheel clamp forcibly If you are not the player who applied a wheel clamp or your character who applied it died, you will have to remove the wheel clamp forcibly. Removing a wheel clamp forcibly requires you to have the crowbar tool on you. You will not be able to remove a wheel clamp forcibly without a crowbar. Approach the car you want to remove the wheel clamp from and select "Forcibly unclamp <wheel>", where <wheel> is the clamped wheel. Your character performs the action animation and removes the clamp from the wheel. However, removing a clamp forcibly will always break the wheel clamp as well as the wheel it was attached to. You will need to replace the wheel with a fresh one, before you will be able to use the vehicle normally again. Although this mechanic is pretty fleshed out with only a couple of loose ends, details are subject to change (e.g. rarity, spawn locations, duration of animations for applying, removing regularly and removing forcibly, etc). Please provide me with feedback and your opinions. If you like it, please tell me how you like it and how you would use such an item. If you don't like it, please let me know what your concerns are or what you would change, to like it more. Thank you, Daniel

New Server going up Tomorrow NEW MAPS inc. Fallujah and Takistan

80 vehicles? Seems a bit much to me. -
So does this make me an asshole?
electroban replied to electroban's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
OK by key word do you mean Key Goal in the game? Because that cant be hard to do, kill a cow grab a couple of canteens and sit near some water untill u get bored? Do you think thats why the player count has dropped so low? People have experienced what it has to offer? I mean i tried the whole clan thing but got bored of following a team mate around who literally just wanted to hide all the vehicles to himself in a big stockpile. Or do people join clans to just PvP. -
Should we remove barbed wire in the next update
SvU_Saber replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
We use it to baracade our vehicles from theft by respawned players but it doesn't do much for asset protection if your geared up and want to steal our vehicles. We need better base/fortification gear, when you have a large membered clan it is esential to be able to fortify and protect those assests. I think remove the glitch where they respawn after server restart and more snadbags spawns...come on I haven't seen sand bags in game ever! except when I come across a set up sandbag wall which I dismantle but can retain. -
Any Tips For Finding Vehicles?
Airman (DayZ) replied to Airman (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just found a bandit camp with my friend, bandit shot my friend but I managed to shoot the bandit. Unfortunately no vehicles but he had 2 M4A1 Holo SD's on him. I know the M4A1 HOLO is legal, but what about the SD? I REALLY hope it is cus its a very nice gun :) -
I just learned recently using the SQL tables for Objects you can see exactly what Vehicles/ Tens are spawned on your map and where they are. So check your tables, also you can spawn in vehicles too with the objects table just make sure you fill everything out correctly.

Gauging Interest: A "True" Hardcore Immersion-based Server
9103 replied to 9103's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Good to see more interest shown here and questions being tossed our way... Hopefully I can touch on all of them- if not, keep them comin'. First and foremost- Kenny: Vehicles and tents have been saving correctly for a while now. I have not had an issue with them ever since the last update. I do know what you are talking about, however... as it plagued our previous server for quite a while and made the game pretty well broken for a while... it seems to be completely fixed now- so rest assured! Eli: I hope you can find a way to work with first person and get used to it, because we would love to have players like you on our server and within our community.. Give us a try sometime once we get it up and running and see if its something you can bare with us. Take into account RPG's suggestions on resolution settings and FOV settings, as well. Maybe this will cure what ails you? Heiduk: Yes this will be a US server. Currently the server looks to be a east coast-ish server and a lot of us show a high ping, but I have not noticed any game breaking lag (and I am on the west coast). I honestly think the ping reader is screwy and not displaying correctly at the moment- because it doesn't seem to be true to what its showing. But short answer: Yes it will be a US server. Reality: A very good question... We have no plans to dump uber lewt into the game or modify it to any extreme. Currently we are running Lingor island, which in itself, kinda has a entirely different looting system than old Chernarus. I believe the vehicle spawns is set to 30 but I have only found a few of these myself. We want the game to feel true-to-life in the experience here... While I can see the argument for loot, sometimes heightened vehicle spawns actually enhances a sense of immersion as well.... Of all the wreckage in the world of Day Z, I would hope there would be more than half a dozen driveable vehicles within a 250-ish square Km map... That's just my opinion, however... Theres a lot that Day Z could improve in its core game... that being, realistic spawns... You wouldn't find guns inside of a school house... nor would you find a gillie suit in someones house (unless they were the rare person who liked to dress up in gillies for the hell of it in their backyard...) So while we may have more vehicle spawns (and thats a maybe), we won't be spawning in anything additional such as tanks... 5 helos... apaches... or anything totally out of character or unintended by the original Day Z vision... So I guess the short answer would be: Yes it will be a vanilla Day Z server... Whether or not we run chernarus is undecided... We are playing with the idea of a map rotation on a possible weekly basis so that players don't get sick of one map after a while... All your items and gear will be saved with each map independently, allowing for you to basically have 2 or more characters... one for each map... As we build up a solid community, these will be things we can discuss within the community.. with our members- and see what direction we want to take... The one thing I can say for sure is that the server settings will be as hardcore as possible and our focus will be on immersion and having a solid community of good, decent, and reasonable players. Thanks for all the responses, guys. This brightens my hope in the ability to construct a good Day Z community that is focused on enjoying the game and immersing themselves in the experience rather than run around with no goal in mind and looking to grief survivors all day long. Not to mention the added bonus of evading the ever growing hacker community. -
Yeah i rent a private server from HFB, and it runs chernarus. Is there no chance i can mess with the vehicles?
-
You're not alone my friend. I completely agree. I don't mind little updates that add weapons, vehicles, and other such things like that. But not BUILD A HOUSE or FARMING. That's not what this game is. Like I said, you are not alone.

New Server going up Tomorrow NEW MAPS inc. Fallujah and Takistan
B0x73r posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
We (1HW) will be recruiting new players to both join as a community and as part of our team. We will have a private hive server PASSWORDED so no hackers or very very little as we have complete control of the server. Please dont ask for server config settings or anything yet as this will be discussed at a later date, if you want to become a part of our team or just a regular community player then get your asses over to www.1hw.co.uk and register your interest... http://1hw.co.uk/login/do/register PLEASE REGISTER ON THE FORUM WITH YOUR EXACT IN-GAME NAME!!! You can apply or register your interest (after registering on the website/forums) HERE.......http://1hw.co.uk/for...ost-here/page/1 when we run Fallujah and Takistan (NEW MAPS) it will be run with approx 80 yes EIGHTY Vehicles. This server will be passworded and is strictly INVITE only. We hope to build through time a regular community of people who have had enough of the hacking toss-pots in the public DayZ servers (we just closed ours for this reason) Make no mistake this server will be policed by more than a few Admins and logs and such will be picked at with a fine toothed comb to identify hackers and those people will be reported and banned with immediate effect and your details GUID etc posted on the public forums cheat report section. We also have our own Teamspeak that is Dedicated to the DayZ server so you can all use that too, to talk to your mates. I will grant each "group" a channel which you can password and call your own. Groups of people are preferred but single players will also be welcome. The server might not be FULLY operational for a few days but its being sorted as we speak. There can be no server hoppers since its a private hive, so if you secure an area its pretty much secure! The server will run 24/7 with frequent restarts. Also please note we have 5 maps which we can alternate between, at our leisure, these are Chernarus, Lingor, Utes, Takistan, and Fallujah We will not beg you for cash donations to the server, but at the same time wont refuse it. If we did get an impressive amount of people wanting to donate we could think about running servers simultaneously (with different maps) But that's too far away ATM to think about too seriously, but worth mentioning at the same time. If i can think of anything else to add i shall edit this post in the coming hours/dayZ :P Regards, Boxter / Colin (*1HW* Team Captain) -
I feel that most suggestions deal with bases, long term storage areas, building custom vehicles over time, having kids (God help us), and everything that screams real-time strategy. I feel this game should be much more tactical, that being the short term aspect. If you are hungry, eat/find food, if you are injured, use your first aid supplies then replentish your stocks. I think this game is bording on grandiose with it's possible inclusions that will just bog it down. I mean, some people are talking about farming when the average life expectancy in the Mod is just over an hour. This game is my minesweeper, not my Rome Total War. I think the standalone should be DayZ Mod 2.5, an improvement with a new engine, serious bug fixes and very few server commands -but- keep the same feel. I seem to be alone in this thinking. Things are getting kind of silly.

Character is currently craving a drink something chronic and I'm in the northern forests... Normal server has some issue where upon some restarts tents and vehicles are missing and I can't get anything from my stores!! -
DayZ: Night Life, the way it should be IMO
MLI replied to sgtredphoenix's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah, could use flood lights powered by gensets/vehicles for electrical power rather than street and building lights. Although wood fire lights placed by players would be more feasible considering the shortage of working engines. -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
soullessnut replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
hopefully this hasn't already been suggested (searched and didnt find anything about it), but i feel like melee weapons should serve a secondary utility purpose kind of like the current hatchet does in the mod. this would be a good feature because most people won't notice any significant difference between hitting a zombie with a lead pipe and hitting a zombie with a tire iron, meaning there would be no reason to have them both scripted into the game. but you could do things like Tire Irons are needed to repair a vehicles tire, crowbars can pry open locked doors, or gardening spades allow you to plant crops, or whatever. you get what i'm saying. -
So, new server, after the first restart all of the vehicles had vanished. I tried a second restart, no dice. I checked the logs and noticed that it was spamming this on server boot: 16:58:56 "OBJ: "2150132"Lada2" 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 1535f040# 1055200: lada.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 1535f040# 1055200: lada.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 1535f040# 1055200: lada.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 1535f040# 1055200: lada.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 1535f040# 1055200: lada.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 1535f040# 1055200: lada.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 1535f040# 1055200: lada.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 1535f040# 1055200: lada.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 1535f040# 1055200: lada.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 1535f040# 1055200: lada.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 1535f040# 1055200: lada.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 1535f040# 1055200: lada.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 1535f040# 1055200: lada.p3d 16:58:56 "OBJ: "2150130"Volha_2_TK_CIV_EP1" 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 15338100# 1055201: volha.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 15338100# 1055201: volha.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 15338100# 1055201: volha.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 15338100# 1055201: volha.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 15338100# 1055201: volha.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 15338100# 1055201: volha.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 15338100# 1055201: volha.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 15338100# 1055201: volha.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 15338100# 1055201: volha.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 15338100# 1055201: volha.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 15338100# 1055201: volha.p3d 16:58:56 "OBJ: "2150129"car_hatchback" 16:58:56 Unrecognized CfgVehicles simulation in bin\config.bin/CfgVehicles/Citizen2/ 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 152da080# 1055202: car_hatchback.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 152da080# 1055202: car_hatchback.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 152da080# 1055202: car_hatchback.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 152da080# 1055202: car_hatchback.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 152da080# 1055202: car_hatchback.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 152da080# 1055202: car_hatchback.p3d 16:58:56 Ref to nonnetwork object 152da080# 1055202: car_hatchback.p3d and so on for all the tents and cars, but I don't know if that's normal. Providing a player / group lives that long, it could be done. The addition of tools and a working powered work shop may be harder though. Perhaps down the line of the SA this could be introduced. Many servers are offering loads of vehicles now and I'm sure will if the SA allows mods and such there will be no need to introduce blueprints. There's many a chance in game to find a vehicle.
-
This is well known, the solution is don't try to drive vehicles across the dam
-
Yeah, don't need quests or any bullshit like that. I just feel the game is far too easy with just the zombies as the protagonist. And by player interaction I don't mean for pvp necessarily. Some of the best moments in video games for me have come from the tense stand offs in this mod. I would much rather have those moments than set "fix all vehicles" as a challenge for myself. If you are determined to play on a server by yourself or with just a few friends, why not 100 head shots out of 100 kills? Still, it won't beat the adrenaline from bumping into another player.
-
It's not all that bad, perhaps you could think about it in a different way. This could form a part of base building where once players have set up camp they can then start building these vehicles inside their bases.

Gauging Interest: A "True" Hardcore Immersion-based Server
torturedchunk replied to 9103's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I am not sure this is covered under the immersion aspect but, will this be a Vanilla Chernarus Server? ie. Not over powered loots and 80+ vehicles. What DayZ should be basically. -
Be honest have you ever died from....
ybm replied to Reaven1911's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I barely escaped dying by thirst when I was looking for vehicles up north. Luckily I found a dam nearby to fill up my water bottle. Sweet, sweet water. -
Alrighty. Other than downloading the mod to do this, which would require all server users to download and install the mod as well, how do I see about adding in vehicles that are on Rockets banlist? Mostly just looking to add in some fun RP type vehicles (forget tanks, fighter jets, and attack choppers... -_-), since the game currently has mostly generic things. Would love to add in a Chinook and Ambulance-esque stuff to our server, but have been foiled thus far. If anyone has an idea how to add in a spawn for them, or even just a way to manually inject them that I can do every few days as a faux-spawn, that'd be stupendous. Thanks!
-
I can't play with the music on, freaks me out and on top of that when you are as pap with a weapon like me, you need total silence to detect everything around you. Though I wouldn't mind a radio in vehicles, that would allow me to take long Sunday drives in the country!
-
I've had fun with my own server as well. messed around, building campsite, outposts... repairing vehicles ive found. After repairing and filling up my helicopter, I got it off the ground and went to find a clear area near a gas station to refill. I used Auto-Hover at first, so I could get use to the controls. Turned it off.... immediately flipped upside down and crashed into an island... lol... need more practice! lol
