Hiding in grass from far away

You "sink" into the ground at range ever so slightly to offset grass however you are far easier to spot that upclose.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

JohnMcClaine that was a rather unneccesary and completely offtopic regarding a patch that is due to release soon/ish.

Big list of tips. Share yours.

Teamspeak etc is an under used tool to aid in comms and create groups. Never approach groups requesting assistance alone without having the upper hand and eyes on . If they can see you just passivly evade and escape. Learn how to suppress enemies if your in a group with abundent ammo. Bounding overwatch and arc assignments save lives. Sighting and contact calling effectivly will save your life

Just a quick question, you seem to be passworded. Is this for testing purposes or "invites" only etc?

    DayZ screenshot competition

I use ACE when not playing DayZ, when running with @ACE you have a wider selection of faces in the player profile, all different camo variants etc. When running DayZ under the same profile it still uses said camo face. I think Ace simply allows the user to choose from more faces that are already within the vanilla content.

    Unofficial DayZ Teamspeak Server

"Channel maxfamily reached" is the error code I am receiving when trying to move to any of the server specific channels. This is with 0 people on the TS.

    DayZ Stories

This might not interest anyone but here I go; The moonlight is shining down on me as I slowly creep through Vybor, Silenced M9 in hand. I've logged back in after, foolishly, leaving myself in a shop whist at work. The shuffle and murmur of zombies is soothing as my ears and eyes slowly adapt to the darkness. Everything is still and calm as I leave the town toward the North East. However the silence is broken and red fills my peripheral vision, hitting the deck and slowly crawling into the shadow of a bush I watch as 5 survivors perform a fighting retreat to their North into a barn. It looks as if they have alerted the warehouse area to Vybors East and bitten off more than they can chew. I follow the group from afar, trying to gauge their inentions and see if it would be safe for me to provide assistance. Preparing for the worst I ready my M4A1 CCO and calculate the rough range now that I have moved closer to the barn. What proceeded was a tense conversation where the group informed me they had one critically injured man and needed assistance, however the names of those involved were unknown to me, and as always night-time brings out paranoia. I refused to meet and treat the casualty directly, however I did have supplies they could use. A simple demand was given, stay in your barn or else I will shoot, wait for my signal to move on. Slowly and methodically I moved to a small shack not more than 5m away from the barn, dropped a range of medical items and rapidly pulled back keeping my eyes on the barn at all times. They did not see me, and once away I informed the group where they could find their items. It felt good to hear the casualty was stabalised however without blood packs of meat he was ineffective, I had neither, but proceeded to watch the group incase they ran into trouble. They split into 2, 3 Hunters went out to the East checking for animals, 1 man stayed with the casualty to keep him secure. They were sitting ducks for anyone in the area, a beacon of light atop a small raise, in an open field, with nothing but a wooden barn to keep them from the elements. I approached the barn and offered to take a look at the wounded whilst I had the advantage, the group was far away to not disrupt me and I had superior firepower incase they decided my gear was to be theres. Checking the casualty I administered an Epi-Pen and more Morphine which seemed to wake him up before pulling out. Once into the darkeness I yet again moved into overwatch just as the hunting party returned. At not one point did they know where I was, and I had perfect visuals on them throughout. It was an amazing feeling to see them run off as a group ready to cause more noise and mess, and I hope the appreciated the risk I took to help a stranger.

    Warden/peace keeper/ Militia idea

Which Servers do you guys usually use? Blue Light Alliance, Freelance and another group that allied recently, are neutral/friendly survivors on EU3 and always welcome groups with common goals.

    Military Ambience

Im not a fan of it actually interacting with the game as it is, however a few fast jets just screaming past, especially at night. Or the rare boat/Helicopter off the shore thats unreachable to give that illusion of freedom and hope. I love the fact that there is no hope, I'm just surviving, waiting for chance, or a fatal mistake, to bring me down.

    Should we scrap bandit models?

I like the bandit skin for an early warning system, however I do not believe it fits that well within DayZ mentality. Positive cosmetic changes could work, or at least some variation for long term survivors would make me fuzzy inside but, in the same light, probably wouldn't fit within this game-type/mentality. I'd prefer that everyone looked like a standard survivor rather than single those out for killing players, I don't enjoy PvP/PKing but it's there and a fun dynamic to fight against. If someone looks like a bandit because of X, Y or Z it won't matter, new players will try to kill them creating a loop of bandit model..ing..

    Warden/peace keeper/ Militia idea

The group I run with find its far easier to keep to ourselves, and help those in need if we stumble upon them and trust them. With heavy sniper over watch for security. The only issue with finding bandits is simple, how do you distinguish lone wolfs and friendly survivors from the bandits, they can even have the skin from self-defense *however I find bypassing survivors/suspicious people and groups is far easier*. Survival for me is simple, communicate with allies and move in groups if doing something important, even then get the advantage of eyes on first and stay hidden. When I'm alone I literally stalk the landscape, at night more often than not, keeping to shadows and cover, away from the coast obviously. I have not died in a few days due to this and for me it is exceptionally fun. Back on topic, The issue here is how do you tell the prey from the predators? It can be a fine line, easily broken, between what you envision of a lawful killer and what your hunt the cold blooded murderer. However if this does work I wish you all the best, you could be making some newer players lives far easier. -Cpl Taylor - (EU3)
  12. Epic tale and more than once I've bumped into these guys and provided/received assistance. Excellent story and good to see we aren't alone on eu3.

    Auto join?

ArmA2 has never had a Auto-join feature, however I do not know if you can view servers through Steam and use that feature? I can't really envision the team/devs putting their time into a auto-joiner when it's simple enough to spam enter which in turn forces players to be at their keyboard, not off doing something and getting kicked for AFK because of auto-join.

    Ladders, Ladders Ladders

Many zombies have a hard time navigating to certain ladders as it is, plus you force them to funnel up a single choke point. Its better than just creating a mechanic to force them to stay on the ground. From a distance I've watched a hard working, yet ultimately doomed, survivor work his way through an industrial building fighting till his last round with a horde on his tale. He didn't survive but watching the trail of bodies to the roof where he went down fighting was brilliant to watch. Hopefully it was exhilarating for him to be in that position, if they couldn't climb he would have just been stuck there with no ammo for, well, as long as it took someone to save/rob/murder him.
