I'd love game server logs and one to test with. I don't know how much is stored with hive and how much is local, so anything to start is good. I've already knocked out the generic detection system... really all that's left is the implementation for DayZ's logging format and player tracking across multiple servers for the more elusive cheating. I'm very interested in help to help them. We need better anticheat! Also, simple edits to the HIVE logs might be able to render them useful for developing an anticheat without compromising their security, though I have no idea what their format is like so I can't speculate too far on that.

Will DayZ strive to be realistic, or simply difficult?
jorgamun replied to HoboWithAGlock's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Interesting points. I think a thermometer would be a useful item to loot with an overhauled temperature system. Core temperature could affect overall performance and different stages of possible ailments at different levels. There's a lot more realistic things you can do with such a system, but your question does need to be answered first... Where on the scale of difficulty versus true realism does the aim of DayZ stand? -
Piss, I wish they'd respond to my thread about cheat detection. I know I could knock out at least a basic unobtrusive system in a few days given access to some server logs.

Yeah, 250 ping is way too excessive for an FPS where you can kill each other so easily. -
That's good. My offer still stands on the log parsing for effective automatic cheat detection. I'm quite good at it. EDIT: And I'm sure you have much better things to be doing with your time in relation to the mod. :)

Banned from US9 for killing the admin.
jorgamun replied to wildleaf's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I can't think of any way Codeusa is not greatly in the wrong in this. He put himself above other players, and abused banning privileges while doing it. The rules for hosting a server are clearly against this. -

jorgamun replied to wildleaf's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
DayZ is not about making videos. You should have picked a safer spot if you didn't want to get shot. Expecting any sort of haven in Elektro is ridiculous, admin or not. It is still abuse. It doesn't matter if you had a reason for him to not shoot you - are you saying that any player should be able to invoke this "making a video" privilege and have immunity for a time with the penalty for killing them being a ban? Of course you're going to say no, and the reason that you are separate from those other players in your judgment is because you're the admin. Textbook. This is not settled until you realize how wrong what you did is. -

I'd like to confirm events. I was there on US9 while it happened. I confronted Codeusa over side chat channel about why he thought the ban was justified. He didn't respond and just logged off. -
Is it... is it safe? I'm scared to play.

I'll keep this simple for you. Your problem is that you're viewing this reputation as one collective thing. What I was referring to was it gaining bad reputation. Do you get it yet? That does not mean that the mod has a bad reputation, just that things that upset players give it a worse reputation than it already has. It's not a complicated concept.

I just started playing today. Glad I suck too much to kill any hackers, because this thread is terrifying. I'd like to appeal to the decency of the developers here... your mod, your rules, but your current system doesn't seem like a fair way to handle things. It's really bad reputation for what I feel is an amazing game that deserves nothing but positivity. Prevention is better than punishment. That's easy for me to say, I'm not in charge of any of that, but I think it's an extremely important part of a game where so much rides on the life and death of your characters as it is.
