E3 Expo - June 2013 - Interviews and Gameplay

At one stage Rocket said the game must come out before Christmas. He has given reasons for why that didn't happen. At no stage since has a date been given. It was to be reviewed in June and in the last couple of days they have said it will be soon. Magazines, journos and those "celebrity" youtubers know nothing in regards to a release date - just like the rest of us. One day you will wake up and it will be in the Early Access area of Steam. EDIT: C'mon, what the hell does the date you joined the forum have to do with anything? -

Lol. By the sounds of this thread there should only be about 200 of us playing the alpha when it is released. Good times and loot for all. I am not saying the alpha or pre alpha doesn't have its problems, but isn't that why we are all here - to get in at the ground floor and help out the Devs in identifying these problems. If people just want to play a finished product then surely the release version is for them? -
I just had a good run on the new patch. If it wasn't already, the hatchet should be your new best friend. Zombies can still be lost very easily - c'mon those who say otherwise aren't trying. Run into a barn or a building with 2 entrances and the aggro is gone - just like before. I didn't get infected but i can see how antibiotics are going to be a problem - i looted a hospital with no luck. I told one guy i had some and he offered me an M4 in a trade. This is definitely adding a whole new problem into the mix.

Make your mind up. You want time to make your actions yet you want an inventory system where you can loot fast. Loot is only available to loot when it is in your line of sight. For example If it is under a bed it will not show up when you open your inventory unless you can actually see it. The quick bar does not make the animations any faster just the process quicker. Imagine it as being a thought process of "I want to get my gun out" rather than manually having to open your inventory and get the gun out. If the gun is on your back why cant you access that gun with one button? And i think saying the animations are ridiculous is a bit of a stretch. I don't know what people expect but as far as i know James Cameron and the Avatar team were not employed by Bohemia. -
A couple of things: Being knocked down might be annoying but i think it is realistic. An angry psychopath would quite easily knock you down with one hit. Avoiding zombies is a priority again - thank goodness. Antibiotics are now DayZ's new currency - worth their weight in gold. @JuggernautNukes "I dont get food in a supermarket, i dont get tools in all the houses and i dont even get MEDICAL SUPPLIES in a HOSPITAL!? What the fuck is this?" It is called the zombie apocalypse. I don't believe it is supposed to be a shopping simulation.

Why not? Someone (Hetstaine?) jokingly suggested shopping trolleys once as well.

Lets hope that the sync issues that Rocket talks about address some of the issues regarding zombies. Seeing a zombie jump, fly past the character and 1 second later the screen greys out signifying a hit was my biggest concern. I honestly do not have a problem with the animations i have seen. Maybe i am too used to the old Looney Tunes cartoons when i was growing up and so view computer animations as 'voodoo magic' -
Id love to be able to pick up one of those washing machines and drop it off a roof.

Just a quick question - but has anyone here actually been involved in alpha testing of a game before? I only say this because my expectations of an alpha seem completely different to some others expectations. I don't want to spout the classic "It's only an alpha" response but really, some people are getting all het up about some really insignificant things, or things we know are only placeholders. If anyone mentions fonts again i swear............................. -

We aren't all ex military black ops who know how to handle a weapon properly. I know which end to point at my target and that's about it. What's wrong with the character reflecting a more civilian look as opposed to a trained soldier? Perhaps the animations could change as your character uses the weapon more and more and gets more comfortable with it. -

Correct me if i am wrong but when has anyone, especially Rocket, said the intention was to make a fun game. So called "fun" games have been done to death and it was refreshing to find a mod which was unforgiving, brutal, annoying, rewarding and intense. I understand the vast majority of games are made with fun in mind but that is not what DayZ was about. Why should survival in a zombie apocalypse be fun? Fuck fun i want a simulation where fun is the last thing on my mind. If i want some fun i'll tap my wife on her shoulder. -
Logic? What sorcery is this?

I just love the way you can force a can of beans through the helmet visor myself.

No one here censors people who criticise - as long as it is done constructively. The impression i get of some naysayers is that you feel you can criticise whatever you like but then you expect everyone to just accept your view and not respond. The moment people defend the game or refute your opinions you get all uppity and claim you are discriminated against, surrounded by fanboys or the forum is full of yes men. Being able to give your opinion doesn't give you the right to say what you want without consequence. If you put forward comments like "you guys have no clue how to dev it." then i have every right to say you are talking out your ass (in a constructive manner of course).- 832 replies

Hopefully it being early days a lot of these problems can be ironed out. I didn't take too much notice of the new player animations tbh but they didn't stand out to me as being bad. I do remember Rocket saying he wanted animations to reflect a civilian ie: someone who doesn't necessarily know how to handle a gun, as opposed to the military animations of the Arma 3 and Arma 2 soldiers. -

Likes: 95% enterable buildings and counting. Clothing options. Female zombies. Crafting. Many more zombies. Zombies run indoors. Possibly more players on the server. Loot being spread out and harder to find Less high end military weapons (more civilian weaponry) More towns, buildings, structures, Utes added to Chernarus + Workable Radios Weapon attachments. Players can now jump. Introduction of disease Zombie life cycles Zombies spawned all the time (zombies around no longer means player around) The idea of scavenging car parts to build a vehicle Motorcycle helmets look awesome Dislikes: Vehicles might not be in on first alpha release (a minor dislike tbh) Zombies still need work So there is my opinion. I for one am very excited. Perhaps a few people need to step back and ask why did they like DayZ in the first place if a few alpha animations are causing you to vomit at the screen. EDIT: I am also moving this to the General Discussion thread. -

I don't think your assumption is correct. There are many more loot location possibilities, but this in no way implies that there will be loot everywhere. Quite the contrary, Rocket has said that because of the many more loot locations the actual loot will be rarer. Perhaps some buildings will be empty, perhaps in one a CZ will be found on a table? The loot will be more spread out and thus harder to find. What you are seeing on the videos is a dev build with loot jacked up so it can be tested. You will not find 2 jackets, 4 beans, an AK in every car wreck. -
To all those having troubles connecting and so forth. Experience has shown in ALL the previous releases that there is always a few days between servers etc getting the correct files in order. Even servers which have changed their name to the current mod release have been known to not be properly updated. What i am trying to say is give it a few days and hopefully a lot of the teething problems seen should be gone. It wont make zombies easier or loot more common though and that is a good thing.
