  1. Yeah but limit free look to 1st only. Free look is exploited in 3rd by "bending" it over and around obstacles.
  2. If the 3rd person view were lowered , a bit closer and free look locked how would this affect things?
  3. Because they make you feel safe and warm and fuzzy inside. 3rd person doesn't add to the fear it lessens it significantly. Unless you are fearful of someone using an exploit.
  4. I think the relevant issue is Rocket, the developer, has stated he thinks there are issues with 3rd person in his game and he wishes to fix them. The only issue now is what fixes can be made. Change, like choice, can be good too.
  5. When did Rocket ever say he wanted players to be happy? I remember quotes saying the complete opposite.

Worthless Points of Interest: I Nominate....

Defintely Otmel. Sure you can walk to the island but i have never found anything worthwhile at all. For a dock you'd think there would be the odd boat there but nada, nothing, fuck all. EDIT: longdongsilverz - what area are you on about??
  7. Well kudos to you for at least having a good go and seeing what a 1st person server is like. Not too sure if many 3rd person hipsters have even attempted it. There are definite issues with 1st person in the mod that are already addressed in SA - the FOV for one. No one is saying that 1st person is perfect. It would be nice to play a game one day that actually simulated the human eye, but until something like the oculus rift is commonplace then we'll have to wait. The main point now (and not one that has been going on ad nauseum) is how to rectify the obvious exploitable loopholes in the current 3rd person view. I for one want to know that if i hide behind a wall i have a fair chance of being hidden. The same for roof tops. If i scan the rooftops properly for players i want to know there isn't some eye in the sky looking down at me from a cowardly rooftop camper. That's all - i dont think that is too much to ask for,

My pink SUV hasn't been stolen has it? I think i left the keys in it!
  9. I remind people that Rockets own words on the matter are: We understand that we are not going to agree on what is better, more immersive etc but that argument should now be dead. Why flog a dead horse? Lets get some ideas on ways to make 1st/3rd better rather than continue this merry-go-round. I am getting dizzy.
  10. Yeah i suppose this is a possibility but i am not sure how this would go in an MMO with up to 150 players on the server. I can imagine that checks would have to be made constantly to see if a zombie or player is "visible" or not. Single player would probably be fine. I am no programmer but it sounds like a lot of work for the system to do.
  11. I think Rocket's proposed ideas are good enough, until we can test them out. 1st for prone, a closer 3rd view camera for crouch and the current 3rd for standing. Any other ideas?
  12. This thread is starting to remind me of something....
  13. I haven't cried in a long time. Make me cry Rocket! In all honesty if Rocket decided to make it 1st person only i fear there may be an initial backlash, but if the game was good the players would come back in droves.
  14. Grenades. Lots of them.

    Chernarus, the unasked questions

Why cant i move a table?
  16. A question. Does everyone who plays 3rd person jump into 1st person during combat, or at least when firing at someone? And if so, why? Surely not because it is easier to shoot in 1st person??

    So, we killed Gooogle today.

So..a bandit after all. The base at Tulga was a trap??
  18. Because you currently are.
  19. Well NVG's are actually real. A God like view of the world from above your head is not.
  20. SMLE I get that zombies aren't realistic and that point has been made countless times in this forum when arguments or rebuttals run thin. It isn't the point. Remember this video is just as much about Arma than DayZ. The same exploits are used in a military simulation. And that's the key word - simulation. You cannot honestly defend something that gives one player an advantage over another that isn't based on skill or luck but by a perspective. Like i said, to scope a town from a rooftop should incorporate risk. You have to get up and peek over a wall, thus exposing yourself for a fraction of time - at least giving someone a chance of spotting you if they are scoping the rooftops like most good players will. At the moment the only time a player needs to get up is the moment of shooting where they can aim and fire in a second. I am not saying remove 3rd person - we were past that argument the moment Rocket said 3rd person is to stay. But the exploits need to and i am sure will be looked at by the devs. Perhaps there needs to be 3 levels of servers Hardcore -1st only Normal - A modified 3rd enabled (ie 1st for prone, closer camera) Easy - 3rd person as is Lets just state it how it is and let the people make their choice since you seem to be the great advocate of democracy.
  21. If we want this game to be authentic or realistic and fair, then a compromise will have to happen and that is what Rocket is planning i think. The current system for 3rd person is flawed and anyone who truly wants to play a game fairly has to accept this. A player should not be able to lie on a roof top completely hidden from view and be able to scan a town with 360 degree vision, all in complete safety. I want to play on full servers and if 3rd enabled means this is the only way then i will do so, even if no changes are made. However, dont we agree that some aspects of the 3rd person view can be modified or made better? What is proposed are fair changes to exploits which cannot be defended with logic. Seeing over a wall whilst lying down is indefensible. It can't and shouldn't happen. If you want to snipe me from a rooftop at least give me a fighting chance of seeing you before you magically jump up and shoot me because you have been watching me for 15 minutes while lying face down.

    Chernarus, the unasked questions

    Where are the fire trucks?
  23. Wayze Though i agree with you completely in principle, Rocket however has stated that 3rd person will still exist in some form. I imagine that 1st person servers will still exist for those of us who want that experience but because the 3rd person view will undoubtedly remain i think we need to move onto to possible ways of reducing its exploitative nature. The discussion of how and why 1st is better than 3rd and vice versa has been a very circular discussion. I think we need to move onto solutions, rather than rehash the same points over and over.
  24. Well combat would only start if someone fires a shot at you or you fire. I don't think we want a system where you are instantly changed to 1st person because another player is closeby. The issue i see is you would know you have escaped or killed a player if you can jump back into 3rd person again. Insofar as effects, i figure any effect should be identical in 1st or 3rd. The camera should shake no matter what view.
