Subtle/Small Additions to make DayZ SA/mod more Hardcore
DemonGroover replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah i hardly would want the game to become annoying. You could say that something like requiring a can opener is annoying since in a desperate situation you would find a way to open a can. But really in an apocalypse scenario a can opener would be a must have item (even Mad Max had one) How about wirecutters so you can get through those frigging fences? As far as sickness, rather than a straight "you are infected" pop up i would much rather symptoms become apparent. Dizziness, blurred vision, high temp etc -
Subtle/Small Additions to make DayZ SA/mod more Hardcore

I agree and tbh i hardly think different shoes sizes are a great idea myself! Just brainstorming really. -
Snow biomes and Snowmobiles.(If im to late to add suggestions maybe it can be in an update)

Doesn't Namalsk have snow? Maybe they could add something? -
This thread reminds me of a mate of mine in the early nineties who loved the band "Faith no More" (very sad i know) They released the song "Easy" and he was convinced they were musical geniuses until i pointed out that it was a cover of an old song by The Commodores (Lionel Ritchie). It didn't sound so cool then. My point is DayZero and other mods owe a hell of a lot to the original mod and the mapmakers. Perhaps this debt should be made a bit clearer so people don't just assume they did it all themselves. I'm not saying these guys haven't done good work - by all accounts DayZero is optimised very well and has some nice additions. I am just dubious about permissions that were granted for certain things.

First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
DemonGroover replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We should be beyond this now. 90 pages of posts just like this. We get you want things to stay the same but Rocket himself has stated he wants to tighten up on some of the exploitable features of 3rd person - not get rid of it. The discussion should have moved on by now and solutions and modifications should be what we are talking about, not rehashing the same old points over and over again. I am beyond saying 3rd should be removed. Too many people like yourself want it to remain so i am sure the devs will keep it in one form or another. However, it will be changed somewhat. -
Interesting

There's nothing wrong with a healthy argument but i agree that once it descends into abuse or i'm right/you're wrong tit for tat then it can become quite pathetic. We have had some pretty heated discussions on this forum lately and it does make it a lot more interesting. It definitely shows there is a schism in DayZ players in general, whether it be about KoS, 1st vs 3rd, Custom Load out servers, 10000 vehicle servers etc etc. However you are right, there isn't really a call for anyone to force feed their views on anyone and say what someone should or shouldn't be doing in regards to a game we all clearly like.

I agree with you somewhat in that some members do appear to have a sense of being "superior" because of the way they play. But in saying that i honestly just laugh when i see those comments - are they actually serious or deluded? This thread was born out of frustration at the 1st vs 3rd thread so i think it is relevant that that thread be acknowledged. This is the crux of the whole "hardcore" argument. I would say though that there are just as many 3rd person advocates who talk down to people as the "hardcore" fanatics. Comments like "Go play 1st servers then", or "99% of us cant be wrong" are just as arrogant as saying "3rd is for pussies". We are never going to get 100% agreement on any issue and forums are notorious for trolls, the community "elite" and pains in the ass. Let them have their say and if it turns out to be nonsense or arrogance they will soon get shot down. Calling you a hypocrite was harsh i admit, but just because our say doesn't change anything shouldn't mean Mercules cant voice his. And btw i actually like 3rd person when running through the countryside - so i am most definitely not hardcore.
-
This forum is very relaxed and we allow a multitude of opinions, whether hardcore or softcore. If i say i think 3rd person should be disabled because of the exploitative nature of its perspective, does this make me elitist, ignorant to other opinions or superior to you? Cant i give my opinion without someone telling me to shut up because i'm not a dev. Don't we all want a better game here? Can't we discuss and give opinion without one side getting all defensive , spitting the dummy, and claiming they are being victimised and made to feel inferior? Your opinion counts as much as the next guy. You can't voice your opinion on one hand and then tell Mercules his opinion is of little consequence on the other. Because that just smacks of hypocrisy.

Hardore = everything turned up to maximum difficulty. How does this equate to feeling superior, ignorant or wanting everyone to play that way? You guys are clutching at straws. Let's face it this thread stems from the 1st vs 3rd debate and the fact some of us think that some 3rd person exploits need to be rectified (something even Rocket concedes). Dictating how everyone should play how they want is the same as me saying i want everyone to play 1st person. There shouldnt be a choice in the matter - we play the game Rocket produces not via some watered down community referendum
-
A few of these have been addressed by the devs already. I dont think giving boosts or penalties based on playstyle is the way to go. If someone wants to be a psychotic bandit then they shouldn't be penalised for it. As for clothes and symbols for heroes - well i reckon the best clothing for a bandit would be a hero skin. I like the idea of fortifying houses with wood, traps etc and the idea of getting a message that you recognise someone is interesting.
-
The journal lists your kills etc and gives a little overview of your location and what weapon you have. I am not sure if there are plans (or even if its possible) to allow us to make notes etc, though that would be quite cool. Aren't there some mods where you can read someone else's journal as well?
-
Not DayZero but at least this is a feel good story about players who pay2win.
-
A lot of us found DayZ because we were looking for a hard core game. I personally am sick of linear, arcadey, scripted games so when i heard about DayZ and how different and difficult is was i was instantly hooked. That doesn't mean i think i am better than anyone else. Really, what kind of person would think they are better than someone because they play a game at hardcore difficulty? Are we infants here or what? I think you need some fish to go with that chip on your shoulder.

Very good. You'll have enough for a book soon.

Hey there. Ive read about the first 10 pages. Good job. I'll try and read more later.

Then ask for donations - no need to hand out gear. Who really wants these custom load outs anyway?
-
Yep that about covers it
-
Well, let me lie down... I think it all started with my mother....
-
I'm confused

I think you'll find it was Aristotle

This bullshit goes against the concepts of DayZ. Pay 2 win is akin to WarZ. I understand that servers cost money and donations to keep them running are fine, but paying for gear is complete crap.
-
Well i found some at a heli crash site. Pity the server was 24/7 daylight though.
