When i first started playing seeing a distant barn was always a welcome sight. You can usually find some kind of weapon inside. You should be able to find a hatchet at least, usually a Winnie or an Enfield and if lucky a CZ. -
Dont know if anyone has seen these videos but they are quite funny. Two well known Youtubers videoed a plane hijack from different perspectives without realising who the other was. A great climax. Psi Jack Enjoy

It would be nice if experience could be implemented without the need for perks/points etc. I have always thought that you should get better at something if you did it long enough (like IRL). Give me a gun and something to shoot at i can guarantee my first shots would miss entirely, but i would expect improvement if i did it over and over. It would be the same with anything. However the one pitfall is the classic MMO grinding. Players would do something over and over just to get that little boost. Time played could be the one thing that cannot be truly grinded (apart from actually playing the game). It is a tough one tbh - i dont think anyone wants DayZ to go down the RPG path or turn into an arcade game. I would much rather DayZ stay as it is than add perks/points/bonuses or penalties. -

You are probably right - in the heat of the moment you could possibly try to kill(or break his legs) the guy with a body shot rather than destroy the goggles. Or skulk off into the forest before he sees you. However i myself am not a KoS player and have had many a player lined up but very rarely taken the shot. That may make me a carebear but i'd rather get killed 19 times to at least get something different happen on the 20th attempt of trying. -
I think DayZ mod bandits better practise their melee techniques if they want to be effective in SA.

I'd probably try (and possibly fail) to hold him up and demand the NVG's. Might not work of course and it would probably end in a shoot out but i suppose it's all about the way you play. Interactions for me are much more interesting than shooting on sight. -
Well i have played Overwatch and it is a definite PvP KoS fest. There are way too many high end weapons with barracks and fire stations everywhere. I think you even spawn with a mid range gun. If this is the mod you play then KoS is the name of the game.

Ha ha i thought you were against tents. Foggy breath would add a nice little touch to the game. It might not be visible from a great distance but it could help against someone hiding nearby.

Another thing to ponder is the new spawning system of the SA in regards to top end loot. Rocket has said that the top end gear may spawn only a certain amount of items across the whole server ie: there may only be 3 NVG's in existence across all servers. If you saw a player running through a town with NVG's on wouldn't you be inclined not to shoot for fear of damaging what could potentially be "super" loot that you may never see again? -

Well as Rocket has said the full on military gear will be a lot rarer and the top tier stuff will actually spawn differently. For example there might only be 3 NVG's in the entire world - no more will spawn once the set limit is reached. Will this prevent KoS if you spot someone with NVG's and you dont want to damage them? -

I think that less ammo, and more audio awareness of zombies could be a start. If we can hear a gunshot then zombies should as well and investigate. There have been countless times you hear a far off gunshot and the zombies are oblivious. Some of them should meander in the direction of the shooting. These wont stop KoS but i think we need more reasons not to shoot. -

So is there actually anything that the devs can do to make KoS less? A lot of players don't kill for gear so the gear degradation probably wont bother them. I actually think a lot of players don't even realise it is a survival game and think it is just some massive DM on a huge map. I have a couple of friends who were not impressed when i explained that the SA will not be anything like the mods they currently play (Overwatch i think) Ideas? To those who KoS - is there anything that would prevent you from doing so? -

I agree that DayZ needs bandits - but i think a little imagination goes a long way. Snipers sitting on high ground killing newbies isn't being a bandit. EDIT - and if this thread doesn't remain civil we will have to lock it up, like a hostage.

There is a bit more blood smears and stains in the SA, on walls and furniture. Not sure how much more gore is planned though. -

I think we need to cut him a little slack - this has probably been a bit of a whirlwind for Rocket. Thrust any of us in the spotlight and i am pretty sure we would say some stupid shit. I remember i was at a basketball game once (Perth Wildcats if anyone cares) and a TV crew came over to the crowd for a live feed. It was near Christmas and the presenter asked me what i most wanted for Christmas. Without thinking i said "A shag" I don't know what the moral is but saying stuff off the cuff is pretty standard for some of us.

Not sure but i'd say the CoD engine would struggle with a map the size of Chernarus. If we are talking pure fantasy my ideal DayZ would be a procedurally generated world of immense size.
