Actually the artifacts are a great place to hide. Keep them to your back and no other player can see you when they look your way. -

How does one survive DayZ?

It is quite easy to survive indefinitely once you find the quite rare matches, but it gets pretty dull. I used to get the basics then hit a deer stand or 5. You should then be pretty kitted up especially if you happen to come across a heli crash. The problem then is - what now? That's why now i just hang around the cities for a bit more action. -

Clowns with sniper rifles atop buildings have a good spawn rate. 80-90%. -
I dont know, i would love to be able to explore Green Mountain more. Perhaps there is a secret Military bunker underneath that was responsible for the Infection?

In a way i do consider it unplayable at the moment. If you wish to survive for long and head on up north that is. That is why now i just hang around Cherno, Elektro and Balota. You can still get some decent gear and when the hackers drop in and fuck you up it isnt really an issue to start again. To be honest i am actually having more fun now than i ever did soloing it up north. Until the standalone or private hives are established with the mod i will just continue to protect my cosy little Cherno apartment. -
Perhaps a chance could be involved. Maybe 1 in 50 people start with some special gear

You are going to get flamed for daring something different but i quite like the idea as it could lead to more variety in spawning. The only issue i could see is the camping on the coast for the pretty rare GPS. I havent come across too many myself and i would be very tempted to slice up a newbie for one.

The bases will be instanced. The only place ghosters will be able to spawn to is the base entrance on the surface.
