  1. However authentic it may be, there are boundaries that you cross because no matter how realistic your game is, it's still a game. People play it to enjoy them, and being indefinitely prevented from moving at ALL, or even kill themselves if they decide their gear isn't worth being unable to play is NOT fun at all.

"How else will KoS be reduced"? That's the thing; it doesn't. KoS is a part of the game that you actually can do something about. Trusting nobody immediately eliminates the possibility that you get shot in the fact by someone who tricked you into thinking they are friendly. Of course that comes with the negative that you'll be unable to negotiate with the few people who are legitimately friendly. That is the trade-off, and people are entirely welcome to make that choice.

In addition to my idea of never supporting an update that allows someone to indefinitely incap someone, I also would never support an update that is aimed SOLELY at changing player mentality. That is truly how you kill the authenticity, by making players play in a way they wouldn't instinctively play.

I don't like the idea of forcing anything on anybody either, but i agree with rocket when he talks about giving players the tools to play dayz however they want. If somebody wants to be a killer and go around killing as many noobs as possible then fine, If a group of players decide they want to enforce the law or even do something crazy like open a night club in cherno then the freedom to do whatever the imagination allows is good for dayz SA imo. For example these new radios that have been added to sa are awesome, can you imagine the crazy things people will be broadcasting =).

  2. I would not be looking to keep prisoners, The loot available to feed and keep them would be too valuable to take someone as a prisoner, unless I was being paid a la Bounty hunter style.

Some of your ideas would be great for non killing robbing.

Your right, your comment points out why a police force would have to be well organised and equipped and trained otherwise it wouldn't work, just like real life. being a law enforcer in cherno would be quite realistic when you think about it.

  3. How about you just hunt down the players that are breaking your "laws" and use some good ole street justice. No phony imprisonment necessary. I know if my character was "detained" I would just play a different server or a different game. I don't want to spend my evening in a cell that I can just walk away from

good it sounds like the idea of imprisonment is having the desired effect =). I understand your repulsion of the idea, but can you see how effective it would be?

  4. I like your idea, but the important thing is how to balance a good idea with the ways it would be abused.

For example: Players would be handcuffing people left and right and leaving them in the forest to have to wait until they starve to death to respawn.

Where is the balance to maintain player freedom but limit feature abuse?

Limit the restraints to things like cable tie's/zip ties and rope, that players can escape from in a reasonable amount of time, perhaps with a mini game. It gives a law enforcer enough time to lock up a criminal, and a victim of abuse a chance to escape.. thats Just one idea, let me think about it and i will reply later. Thanks for pointing out the flaw in my idea.

  5. As I've said before, being able to force a player to do something indefinitely is a Horrible idea. It's only going to be used to grief.

It's horrible but i personally think it is "authentic", as Rocket describes the dayz experience. Perma death by itself hasn't been much of a consequence or detterent when you can quickly join another server. How else will KOS be reduced without the kind of consequences i mentioned above. If the law obideing people of cherno stick together and organise well enough to create a united force then bandits will get the most grief.

  6. Hi,

recently i have been thinking about how law and order can be brought back to cherno in SA, i thought about starting a vigilante group to hunt criminals, then i thought why not assemble a full on police force and enforce real world laws. Maybe even include courts of law. But then a few problems arise, how to capture, restrain, and hold a criminal? Without the ability to grab or knock out the offender (without causing them to bleed to death), then handcuff or tie them up it makes the task impossible. So here is a short list of things i think will be needed to allow players to enforce the law in dayz SA.

ability to restrain then cuff or tie up a player

ability to carry a player on shoulder

ability to place a player in a vehicle

lockable cell doors in the prison being built for cherno or in other buildings

non lethal weapons, tranq gun, tazer, tear gas, rubber bullets, throwable net...etc.

ability to force feed player? (place holder) cant think of a better idea to keep a player alive whilst detained if they choose to starve themselves.

I have heard rocket talk about wanting to decrease the amount of K.O.S. and increase player interactivity and cooperation. What stops most people in Nations across the world from committing the kinds of crimes seen in dayz?, an obvious answer... the consequences mostly brought about by the law. so i am asking for the means to allow players in dayz to capture and hold players if they choose to.

There are so many possibilities but i like the idea of having a green zone in cherno created and protected by players and where life can flurrish and maybe even a place where sunday markets can operate like the apocalypse didnt even happen =).

I also think it would be fun for criminals to try to escape from detention, or perhaps their freinds may attempt an over the top hollywood jail break =).

  7. As soon as I've downloaded the SA after buying it I'm going to join a server, look for a weapon as fast as I can and start gunning players down indiscriminately.

Why? Simple. We've already seen how people act from the mod, and I don't expect to change human nature by pretending to be 'friendly'

My favorite thing about the Mod is the deathmatching aspect of it. Killing people before they can react is so much more rewarding than it is in other multi-player shooters.

I just hope the zombies don't get too in the way of that, unless I can use them some how to kill other people. And hopefully there's enough weapons and ammo around to take people out.

Hi, I respect your opinion, but i do not think you speak for everybody. There are plenty of people out there who want to play dayz ethically. I don't know what the statistics are but there are plenty of people on this forum that are not like you. Im glad you mentiond the zombies getting in the way of your killing spree, going by what we have seen of the new path finding and how rocket describes his goals for the zeds, they are going to tare you and your kind a new one.

If the zeds aren't enough of a challenge for you, then the band of vigilantes i am going to assemble should keep you busy. The modus operande of our group will be stealth, justice, revenge... or something like that. We will track bandits and punish them. If Rocket listens to my ideas at all he will put operational cell doors in the prison they are building. If they do, that is where i will put bandits. I wont kill you that would be an easy way out, I will let you suffer but keep you alive. That reminds me to ask for the ability to force feed players =).

    see you around buddy =)

If anybody likes the sound of the vigilante group i describe pm me.

  8. Soft Body physics are a step forward for vehicle simulations but for use on current hardware these physics are too processer hungry. Anybody who has played Rig of Rods will understand this. It is probably too difficult to intergrate one physics engine in to another but if i had to chose one for SA it would be Rfactor 2. Rfactor 2 is one of the best racing simulators at the moment It provides an engine which enables physics programmers to simulate every detail of a vehicles behaviour and supports many types of vehicle configuration. However the competancy of the programmer and the use of real world numbers determines the quality of the physics model of a particular vehicle. A good physics engine alone will not produce good or realistic physics, the engineer/programmer has to be competant and know how to utilise the engine, eg... like Niels Husenkveld for example whom created the vehicle physics for Game stock car 2012 using the rfactor 1 engine.

  9. I think Arma 3's animations are good, but what is really needed to develop the animations further is to blend between the animations. Look at the ladder climbing animation (in 3rd person) for example... You are standing there in idle.... you press the button to climb... and you teleport on to the ladder... then the actual climbing animation itself is ridiculously jerky and low fidelity. examples of better ways of executing animations can be seen in Batman arkham asylum, MGS ground zero's and the last of us. Something i have suggested before but i know isn't going to happen is euphoria or a similar in house version of that technology. Just look at what euphoria can do...

  10. Here's a simple suggestion for SA...

Include ventilation shafts/air conditioning ducts big enough to crawl in, in buildings where they are justifiable and not out of place (hotel). This will allow us the possibility to sneak, evade, ambush inside buildings. The Metal Gear series has a lot that would fit perfectly into dayz in my opinion. Being able to hide inside cuboards, under beds etc would be amazing features in dayz sa aswell.

p.s My idea was also probably influenced by the first Die hard Movie as well as Aliens =)

  11. A Prison would be awesome! Here's my shopping list for Prison design :

-Maze like design where its easy to get lost

-Lots of Corridors, tunnels, Cubby holes, etc

-Areas that have purpose, canteen, security room with Camera monitors.. etc

    - Lockable Cell doors so it is possible to lock Players up.

-A fixable diesel generator, allowing lights to be switched on.

    -operational spot lights

    -operational electric fense

    -

  12. it would be great if there where pros and cons to using different footware in SA that adhered to reality. In rl i cant go hiking without waterproof and sturdy boots. also i cant move silently with noisy clunky footware. plymsoles are great for sneaking but too flimsy and fragile, also you can hurt your feet on rough surfaces. Anyways i trust Rocket will try to direct the project toward a brutal reality experience.

  13. i think the side step animation is triggered when strafing on an incline or uneven ground, I think it is there to artificially create momentum not allowing you to stop strafing instantly. In my opinion games need more physics. Character movement should be governed by physics like in backbreaker. Animations and physics are make or break for me.

  14. Do you know how much Euphoria costs? One million dollars.

if it can be implemented to this standard..

then it's worth every penny. I would gladly pay a bit more for dayz to cover the cost of this tech. I like to play a lot of sim stuff, for me physics and movement is an immersion maker or breaker.

  15. Check the arma 3 videos, that's probably as "physicy" as you are going to get. If we are lucky. I wouldn't worry to much though.

Physx/ragdoll is a step forward for Arma3, although the physics need a lot of tweaking especially vehicle physics. Euphoria is on another level when utilised well like backbreaker. I think it would especially enrich the gameplay in dayz if melee combat was also expanded upon.

  16. I know this is a long shot, and im sure i heard Rocket or somebody involved in dayz saying that it's too expensive to use in dayz....

but dammit just take a look at it. This is not a suggestion, this is me begging now for natrual motion/euphoria or an equivelant in a Future version of standalone. Backbreaker for me is the best example of natrual motion/euphoria to date.

  17. +1000 great idea. This reminds me of Metal gear solid. We could use loads of things from those games especially the third one which was survival orientated.

    eg:

    Human sheilds

    CQC

catch spiders and snakes alive then use as weapon to throw at enemy

    choke grab, cut throat, interogate

    punch kick combo

    Healing mechanic

directional microphone for listening to surroundings

stomach grumbling when hungry, (could alert enemies)
