    Standalone Poll: First Person Only?

    I want to play in first person only but cant finds a suitable server sometimes. However removing third person completley is a tad harsh. I dont know to be honest. Maybe Rocket can come up with something.
  4. Yep 3rd person needs to be removed for realism. Beans for you!. The biggest problem with yhird person view is being able to see to much when prone for example. Maybe a peak up animation needs to be added when prone for first person view to be more useable.

    hmm interesting, It would be great if you could knock a bandit unconscious or restrain him in a choke hold and drag him to a sell and lock him up. this would only work if their was no respawn/suicide or alt f4. The prison escape part MGS1, 2 and 3 comes to mind. they where prety awesome. c'mon rocket do it =)

    Hey Lok, Isn't it really satisfying when you get good with the operation of the gun and you can load a new clip, chamber a bullet and check the chamber in around 5- 8 seconds ? B) I'm glad you tried it and liked it. Even if you didnt like it i respect the fact that you made that leap to check it out instead of being immediately dissmisive like some people are around here.     Yep their idea is great, but their are far simpler ways to do it. Instead of using a dome, omni directional tred mil and a projector, it could be done with just a vr headset (Oculus Rift) and motion sensor (Leap or Kinect 2.0). Instead of gesture recognition, my idea was that through the motion sensor your in game avatar would mimic your every movement like a mirror, With the low latency and high fidelity of the new generation of motion sensors coming out this is achievable.

    I think we are on the same wave length.. I enjoy playing racing simulations with a force feedback wheel because Real world skills translate to the sim making it ultra satisfying when i battle it out and win. As i understand it, Rockets intention is to make dayz a unforgiving and realistic apocalypse simulator, so surely these gun mechanics are right up his street. On a side note, after playing reciever the Colt 1911 A1 is very familliar to me now. i could probably operate the weapon in RL thanks to reciever.

    but was it in anyway immersive for you? The way i see it, dayz has become popular because of the intensity and immersiveness of the situations it puts you in, so where other game developers have shyed away from including things that could punish but at the same time immerse the player Rocket has embraced these ideas, and in practice have made his concept very addictive. Before dismissing these things that may seem like to much of a annoyance for players we have to ask how they will effect gameplay and what emosions will be aroused by this. I imagine running away from a horde or bandit by tapping and getting tired while doing it will create some tension. another benefit would be the ability to finely adjust movement speed while negotiating obstacles. nobody really wants to tap to run for miles on end, but you wouldnt want to walk or run for miles on end in rl either . So do the pros outweigh the cons, that is the question.

    The stamina system is a great idea.I also really like the stepper idea. I have been day dreaming about how future versions of motion sensor technology could be combined with a VR headset like the Oculus rift to give complete immersion in to Virtual reality. So the motion sensor would provide full body detection with high fidelity and no latency and your in game avatar would mimic your every move accurately whilst the VR headset would allow you to view everyting in first person. So you look down and their is your hand as you would see it in RL but a 3d representation of it. Then you could manipulate objects in 3d space as you would in real life. The only remaining problem was controlling movement without an omni directional tread mill. Thats where you stepper idea comes in. The way i imagined a solution is that the a 3m circle would be drawn on the floor. the user would stand in the middle of the circle and depending on how far towards the edge of the circle they moved would dictate their movement speed in any diretion, forward, back, diagonal etc.

    You wouldnt want to but your finger getting tired from running too much adds to the realism. On the other hand just holding a button down and sprinting endlessly without fatigue is less immersive and realistic. The other benefit of tapping to run is being able to finely adjust your movement speed as you negotiate obstacles or enter a confined or cluttered area or building.

    Oh one of the other great features about Reciever is how you run by tapping W, the faster you tap, the faster you run. Adding this and removing Arma2's method of controlling running speeds will a] give the player more control and b] reduce the amount of buttons needed for walking/running leaving more buttons for the realistic gun mechanics, (for those that are concerned about the mechanics being too complicated for Dayz.)

    To be fair, Dayz is not as complex as Arma. some commands and functions have been thrown out in the dayz mod. If needed Dayz's controls could be tweaked to include these realistic mechanics. A good example of a complex set of functions optimised to run on a limited amount of buttons is MGS3. If something as complex as that can work well on a control pad, then a lot more can be done on a keyboard with Dayz. We have to think outside the box for inspiration sometimes. The reason why i suggested this is because i have read half a dozen threads asking for a skill system in arma where "the more you shoot, the better you get at it", "the steadier your aim", kind of comments. Why not make the gun mechanics ultra realistic and then we will see who can learn to shoot properly. With this realistic system, inevitably practice makes perfect.

    Im sick to death of these narrow minded fucktards hating on a suggestion like this! He/she is asking for something to be added not taken away from dayz. If you choose to play with a mouse and keyboard then this post does not concern or effect you, jog on!. These self absorbed idiots need to get their heads around the fact that other people exist in this universe and these people have a different preference in controllers!. uh i give up with the fucktards on this forum who think they know best. I mean honestly listen to this crap.... "Why would you use a controller instead? Hell... Do you drive your car with a Dance Dance Revolution pad? Do you play piano with boxing gloves?" do you drive a car or play a piano with a fucking keyboard and mouse??

  22. In the past i have played a lot of Metal gear solid and i think DayZ could learn a few things from it. MGS3 had some great survival elements in it, your charactors stomach would start grumbling if he didnt eat and this would give away your position. MGS introduced catching a cold and taking medicine in mgs2 if i remember correctly, long before dayz was a twinkle in rockets eye. the CQC system has improved with every itteration of MGS and if directly ported to DayZ would work perfectly IMO.

    Idea for ending Sniper abuse

    Here's a solution.... make the gun handeling/mechanics realistic like the game/sim Reciever .To see how many shots left, you have to take the clip out, you have to go through each and every step you would in RL to load the weapon and fire it. Reciever can be found at wolfire games website.
