If you're connecting to the central hive, you're potentially affecting all servers on the hive. Therefore, you have to follow the rules of the hive. -

Shutdown and bring your server back up. Vehicles have a respawn timer, and don't all respawn at once when the server starts up. -

They're upset because some people will get helicopters and jeeps on servers they dont even play on. -

I definitely don't think there should be an auto-ban for locking the server. Sure perhaps if the server is locked for 2 hours, then ban the server from the hive, but an auto-ban? Nope. I don't lock my server, but I understand it can be very useful to do so during a patch given all of the stuff that has to be updated, especially when you're updating manually. Also, for server restarts locking a server 5 minutes before and after restart can be useful. I wonder how many of those 140 servers you counted were locked for some similar reasons. I understand there are clans locking servers to farm equipment, and that's not cool. But there are legitimate reasons to lock the server, albeit for short periods of time. -
Go to: http://www.battleye.com/download.html Download the latest BE Server and Client files (under section v1.61.94945+) Stop your server Copy these files into <ARMA 2 OA Install Folder>\Expansion\Battleeye\ (there should be some existing DLLs in here, just over write them). Start your Server

DayZ is so difficult to figure out sometimes what is happening. For instance, when a car blows up in the game, in the log files it reports it as a choper spawning. So confusing :) I'm still trying to wrap my head around it myself. If anyone has any good resources for what to understand in the log files, it would be much appreciated :)

I've sent multiple messages through RCON, no idea if they're appearing on the server though. Do you get a message after you send the command? Did you manually update the BattleEye server DLL?

It is very common to LOCK or Password the server while doing a restart or post update. Given how many things are often updated (Server Version, Server Files, DayZ files, BattleEye, Config files, BEC, server tools, etc) it is easy to miss one or few things if you're doing it manually. I've done that a few times. I've missed updating the server version, and 15 people joined the server in the 2 minutes it took me to start my ARMA2 client. Now I have to kick everyone off and do another restart because I messed something up. If I was wiser, I should start the server, lock it, load and test, then when it's good, unlock and let everyone join. Takes all of 5 minutes of it being locked. Don't hate on server owners. -

Yeah I've time shifted our server by setting the Server's Time. Seemed the easiest way. I imagine there is a better way to do it, but I don't know what that is.

How long has it been locked. It's very common to lock a server ~15 minutes before a restart to prevent people from joining. I don't tend to do this myself, but it is a common thing.

Yeah great if you managed to get an instance ID before you started setting up your ARMA2 server. I'm sure many people want to start installing ARMA2 while waiting the 1-15 days it takes to get an Instance ID. Just at the end of the day, you don't need to be a jerk.

Servers restarting without warning

Who cares what other people say. Shrug it off. It's a 12yr old free-loader. When I restart my server manually, I don't get any response. Just restarting it on your entire server population without warning because sometimes someone says something that is dumb and obnoxious is not fair to the rest of your players. TBH, I'd say the same thing to you if you restarted the server on me without warning and I respawned in the middle of town surrounded by a horde on the next server I joined. I'm starting to see where that player is coming from. -
Why don't you link them instead of being an arrogant prick about it. No need to be a jerk. I spent more than 5 minutes googling to try and setup and optimize a server. The majority of my time was trying to wrap my head around the idea that this isnt a standard game server. ARMA2 servers are setup, optimized, and maintained somewhat differently. Who knows, maybe this guy spent a bunch of time looking for stuff, but can't find any good resources. It really is a large amount of disorganized information on how to setup and host an ARMA2 server, then you have the "DayZ server" question. Cool your beans dude. Chill out and try to be nice to the noobies. Don't need snide and passive aggressive attitudes in this forum when someone asks a simple question. Especially when this forum category doesn't have a sticky for resources that new server owners can use to get started.

I agree that is completly unhelpful. I spent HOURS googling, reading wikis, looking for posts on trying to setup an ARMA2 server on Windows. Just trying to get an answer of "what are the server files I use" was annoying enough. ARMA2 is one of the higher difficulty game servers I've played with/setup. The Kelly's Heroes guide is the one that got me through the majority of my setup. The high level steps to install ARMA2: Install full ARMA2 game with dedicated server file (can do this through steam, or from retail CD key) Modification of step 1 is you can copy the files from your install, and fudge some registry keys Configure ARMA2 (there are instructions for this on the Kelly's Heroes site, the ARMA2 Wiki, and in the documentation for DayZ after you get approved) Signup at support.dayzmod.com and register for a server Once approved, follow the instructions provided Happy Surviving!

Servers restarting without warning

I use BattleEye Extended Controls (BEC). We do a couple scheduled restarts per day and always notify 15,10,5,1 minute before restart. If I have to restart manually, I always give a 5 minute warning, and a 1 minute warning. It's funny to see the large number of people that won't disconnect though. On a server with maybe 65 people on it, the population will have dropped to maybe 50 by the time the restart gets initiated. I think most administrators try to send a message before hitting the shutdown (you can do this through BattleEye RCON as well). -
I've noticed a lot of timeouts on the server and sudden ping spikes. I have been trying to figure out of it is: my server, the hive, dayz, or my arma2 config. Funny enough, I've noticed it happening between 50-70 players, where I guess it gets really turbulent with players DCing and reconnecting regularly. I guess this could be the cause. When I dropped the max player count to 50, the majority of our issues went away. It's funny, when a timeout/spike would occur (they lasted 3-10 seconds), one of the cores would go from 70-80% usage down to 5-10%. After the spike, the core would go back up to 70-80% usage. Kind of leads me to believe that something is blocking in the application.

How long a delay to get an instance ID?

It took my server just under 72 hours to get setup. Submitted the request on Friday night, had it rejected Friday night, re-submitted the request, and it was approved Monday morning (this was last week). -

Well, I think your time command is off. If you want ot to repeat every one minute, try this: <time>000100</time> It is formulated as HRMISS (2 digits hour, 2 digits minute, 2 digits second). -
Hmm, I've been noticing desyncs all evening, and I'm trying to work out if it is the hive, my server/configuration, or my server provider/network. What I'm basically seeing is a server at 25% utilization. All of a sudden it will drop to 13-18% utilization, and the game's ping (TCP) will spike to 700+ms/timeout for a few seconds (30-60). ICMP ping will sit at ~50ms (usual, doesn't spike at all). It kind of looks like the game stops processing requests. However, during this happening, I can see "stuff" happening in the server dialogue (chat messages, users DC/connecting, etc). (server is not shitty)
