    Server Blackout

I'm not sure it will do anything or even be effective. However, if you can find enough people, I'd be in on a time and date. The atmosphere in this game is amusing, and the number of players I get that accuse me of running scripts when they get teleported by a hacker to the Thunderdome, and instead of alt+f4'ing they actually try to fight. I actually had one little shit come into our vent because, in his words "an admin teleported behind him and killed him and his friend was getting rocket to look at the server's log files to prove it was an admin and then the server will be shut down". He raged for a good 15 minutes before he left. Threatening to have the server turned off. I checked the log files and I think I found the real hacker. Which leads me to my next point: the tools in this game to find and identify hackers are absolute shit. End of story.

    Any servers still have Sidechat

If and when that time comes for breaking a rule that has no merit, I'll just jump to a private Hive. I doubt I'll see much of a decrease in server population. Until then, I'm running a clean server and am an active member of this community. Tl;dr: come at me, bro.

    Any servers still have Sidechat

I agree with a lot of the rules that rocket and his team are pushing (they make sense in terms of the hive and maintaining the integrity of the core). This is a rule I do not agree with, and the explanation is, quite frankly, BS. This is a function that admins should control. If they find issues with it on their server, they can disable it. If players don't like it enabled, they can find a new server to play on. Disable it in the default config, but don't tell me I cannot have it enabled. I don't have it enabled currently, but I might just consider it going forward. Make the rules that make sense. Don't try to push too many rules. Project Leaders that are dictators to only feed their ego often end up killing projects in the long run. Hell, some of these rules are starting to annoy a lot of my server regulars. I've already had multiple requests this week to move the server to a private hive. It's not something I'm considering (yet), but start adding too many rules and ignoring the problems with hackers, and you'll find a lot of servers shutting down and/or moving to a private hive.

Servers should be cleaned/reset after a few months?

How do you do a complete reset?

    Failed to update?

    I'd contact AltitudeHosting.com for support.

Why is sidechat removed? What is the "specific reason" ?

    Ghosting

That's not the point of the hive. The point of the hive is so that you can logoff after a solid session of gameplay on Server A and login to Server B and still have your stuff and be where you left off.

    Ghosting

You have a skewed definition of ghosting. Seems to be an issue with terminology in this topic. In gaming, ghosting is watching someone, listening to their vent/speech, other ways of gaining knowledge to give you an advantage (guy kills you, you tell your teammates where he is). This has been explicitly stated by rocket as being allowed, and is encouraged. What you're talking about Ive heard described as "server hopping". Finding a less popular server to gain gear, or to get where you want to go, then hopping to your desired server to collect/drop-off on your camp, or be in a prime camping spot. tl;dr: ghosting is acceptable. Server hopping is generally thought of to be frowned upon.

    Script Restriction #140

Happening once isn't generally a sign of a cheater or a hacker. Happening several times becomes more suspicious, and players deserve closer watch.
  10. Your biggest issue is going to be network (as others have said). My server has been running pretty well 50% - 100% full (50 slot) since July 14. I just checked my server stats: DayZ staff have said "No home servers" but if you can achieve a 10-50mbps and your ISP lets you have enough bandwidth, then you should be fine. Keep in mind that the "upload" is the important part for the internet. Also, note that residential ISPs will generally not provide "guarantees" for service rates. So while you may have a 100mbps, if lots of people in your area start torrenting or chewing up bandwidth, your connection will suffer (depending on your ISP, the technology used, your area, and a host of other factors). Anyways, nearly 1TB of bandwidth used in less than a month. That's a lot of data.

    Can I Ban this Person?

I've had a few people like this. Makes my life easier :) One example was a guy that came into the server and start spouting off to friends / other survivors about his hacking skills, and how he could just teleport people to them and take them out. Later a bunch of server regulars reported exactly this happening. "dudebro" was promptly Ban Hammered from the server.

    US186 Ban for "teleporting"

Just FYI the following is NOT a hack: More info here: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA2:_Moves From talking with some players that have had this appear next to their name, it looks like it happens when you drag a player. If the guy was hacking, this line isn't proof.
  13. Thank you for posting that. In the 5 minutes after I've added the Reporter to my BEC config, I've had 3 people kicked for Gamehack violations

    Is having hacked weaponry bannable?

Not my problem. If they're using a hacked weapon and risking their Hive Profile (perma corrupted was the term that rocket used), I don't want other "noob" players at risk when they play on my server that they may kill this person, pick up and use the weapon. Using a hacked weapon that you found, and continued use after being told it is a hacked item, is cheating. Plain and simple. I will warn you, but if you don't acknowledge or comply, I will remove you from the server. If you return, and you continue to use the weapon and ignore an Admin's warnings, I will provide you with an escallating break from the server (day, week, month, permanent - yes I do keep track of all bans). I understand players are new, and I want to help and support those players. But if someone blatently ignores warnings and admin direction on serious issues (and I consider exploiting and cheating to be a serious issues), then they will not be welcome to play on US 917 for much longer. The previous time this topic came up, someone linked to a rocket post which stated that using hacked weapons was considered "exploiting", whether you spawned them or not. Given this post, the consensus in that thread from the participating server admins was that using a banned weapon was kick/bannable. No DayZ staff protested in that thread.
  15. No locking your servers that are connected to the hive is against the rules. You asked why there were private hive servers and servers that were locked. I was simply stating that from what I heard, Private Hive servers have been easier for admins to manage. If your server is connected to the Hive, it is not allowed to be locked. Why don't you just filter out locked servers? Plenty out there are unlocked.

    Is having hacked weaponry bannable?

This has come back in the past, and the general consensus was that it was bannable. If I ran into a player using a hacked weapon, I would warn them several times to drop the weapon. If they did not comply, they would be temporarily removed from the server (the temporary wouild increase each time they came back). Keep in mind, once you notify the user that their golden AK is not a valid item, they no longer have ignorance to rely on. One other thing, using a hacked weapon will corrupt your profile in the hive.
  17. Quite a few server admins have found that they can better handle and identify hackers on their own private hives.
  18. Thanks for feeding my ego :)

    DayZ Server Suite Alpha 1.0.3

So you just disable the features in the client when someone chooses FTP. If you're worried about file size, the amount of code between the two is going to be a few hundred KB when it's compressed. I don't see it being bloated. Oh well, you do what you do. I'm betting a few months after you split it and realize the pain it is to maintain two versions, you'll retire one or the other and roll the features back into a single version (or if you're new to WinForm development, you'll rewrite the entire thing from scratch in 6-12 months and will do it as one application). I've seen it before, and I've been there. Unless you're using shared libraries between the two projects, you'll hate yourself soon. But it's something you have to try and learn for yourself :) However, the only other reason to split it into two versions is if you're planning on selling one or both of them in the future. Even then, you'll want to put the shared code in a library.

Whitelisting IP's to avoid ping kick

Seriously? You limit your server to 100ms? *shakes head and walks out*

    Dear Server Hosts!

Welcome to the sacred fold of server admins. May the players be with you, and the hackers be few.
  23. Thanks for reporting this. Regards, Sna.ke
  24. Thanks for reporting this. I'm sorry to hear you had these experiences. I'll do what I can to track these hackers down, but to be honest it feels like I'm blindfolded with my hands tied behind my back given the tools ARMA2 provides to server admins. I'll check the log files though. Thanks, Sna.ke
