  2. there is something slightly odd about the way you are handling this criticism dude and i'm not just talking about the way you quickly resort to aggressive language. here are some disturbing stats - the word 'my' appears 18 times in your posts on this short thread., the word 'me' 16 times, most alarmingly the word 'I' appears no less than 72 times. In total you refer to yourself at least 106 times in 10 replies Take a deep breath dude, just calm yourself down. OK, now read through the whole thread again, this time actually absorbing the input of others then ask yourself this question... ....why do i do it to myself? edit - this thread isn't really about dayz is it? it's about you, it's about how you are going to blow our minds with new ways to fix dayz, about how brilliant these revelations are and how stupid the rest of us must be to not recognise the genius in your work......There is no genius dude, all of the better suggestions have been discussed before, months ago, something you'd know if you'd just bothered to use the search bar, and the rest? the rest amounts to no more than a series of incoherent ramblings from a disorganised mind.

    Definitely sgree that a much larger map with more players and more variety would be awesome. Merging the current maps would definitely be a good way to do that, but would like to see a new map with more realistic scale. Greater distances between the towns which should be considerably larger than they are on the current maps. Other than the obvious obstacles, like the time it'd take to map an area 3-4 times the size of chernarus, especially as they are making most of the buildings enterable, would it be possible to run this on a public server for say up to 100 players or more? and would the average pc be able to run the game? a few struggle as it is. edit - Eve online regularly has tens of thousands of players on a single server so obviously vast numbers are possible, but of course eve is a very different game.

    if you attached a lightweight but strong bayonet to a crossbow bolt and tied a length of sean connerys character in The Rocks string to the end of it, and held onto the other end then you could catch all the sturgeon you'll ever need from the safety of the riverbank. Think man, Think.

    trained chimps anyone? Obviously this little fella needs to work on his accuracy but once he gets to grips with that..... edit - also I'd like to see the triumphant gun held aloft pose as demonstrated superbly by young bobo here added as a character animation to express ones dominance over the vanquished.

    if you have half decent headphones or even a basic 3:1/5:1/7:1 speaker set up it is pretty easy to tell roughly which direction a shot (especially from a high powered sniper rifle) has come from. I actually have more success locating snipers using information primarily from my ears rather than through my eyes, the sound always betrays a general direction to focus on and then I usually spot them, or at least narrow it down to a couple of likely positions. That's assuming they missed me of course.
  11. OK, you asked for it Where do I begin? hmmm, I know, seeing as how these will be my very last words on the subject I'll take on your very first suggestion - (1.) Player spawn, loot spawn, map Spoiler (1.1) Highly randomize player spawn points over the whole map. The reason I think that this idea wouldn't work is because - characters spawn on the coast and only on the coast due to the the games back story scenario, the characters are shipwreck survivors so spawning at the NWAF for example would be, using your favourite word, shit, or as James so eloquently put it - garbage. edit - you wanted 20 words? there's ^^ 40+, keep the change but i'll be having those beans back sir
  12. Allow me illustrate why I feel that James Ashwood is not, as you so angrily put it, a dick! I can see how his wonderfully economic post might indeed leave a little confusion in the mind of a person for whom English is a 2nd language, I hope he'll forgive me if I presume to elaborate for your benefit my understanding of his accurate and to the point observations. A fair few of your ideas are bad ideas, as this is a forum dedicated to finding good ideas they don't really need to have any more time wasted on them., in the bin they go. There are some excellent ideas here too, so good in fact that they are already being implemented in the standalone. The rest have been suggested before, they have been discussed and debated at great length and if you feel you have anything new or original to add then the threads are out there awaiting your input. edit - could have saved yourself a lot of time if you'd used just a fraction of what you must have invested in putting together this beautifully presented and beans worthy thread on researching your ideas instead.

When a 'new game' first starts make ammo abundant but gradually reduce the amount that spawns in, until, as would be the case in real life, ammo becomes rare and eventually runs out and stops spawning altogether. You could apply the same principle to processed food and drink, giving hunting, foraging for food and access to drinking water a whole new level of importance. The game world would gradually evolve from Deathmatch heaven, a world of chaos and violence with plenty of resources for all (as you'd expect in the months immediately following an apocalypse), into a slower paced hardcore survival sim. With melee weapons, bows and arrows etc (and those wise players/groups who kept well hidden stashes of weapons or the occasional discovery of a long forgotten tent) keeping PVP an integral part of the game, just in a more subtle, less cartoonish way. Of course the KOS kiddies and PVP lovers will have jumped servers to a 'new game' long before this happens so they can enjoy the deathmatch gun-fests leaving the survivalist players to get busy playing against the environment Everyone gets exactly what they want.

    That's a very good point, I hadn't considered that. I agree, keep guns common, especially those you would find in real life like shotguns, hunting rifles and pistols. Of course those who play more will have an advantage but that is the case now and always will be the case no matter what you do. it is a persistent world, real-time MMO and more time played will always be advantageous. edit - as an aside, with less ammo in the game people will die less, at least from gunfire, so those who play less will get more time to develop their character and amass gear, the playing field will be a lot more level than it is now, I agree with you about not making guns rare and have edited the suggestion accordingly, beans for you.

    I think a lot of players will agree with you dude. In a way so do i, however, DayZ is unique because of the survival element, if it becomes a deathmatch based game then it will be just like all those other deathmatch based games. I love Counters strike, BF3, COD and all those games but I love dayz for the things that make it so different. I know the mechanics and maps and vehicles etc do make it a unique platform for pvp gameplay, but there is arma 2 (arma 3 soon) for all that stuff.

    what can be done, if certain players love to kos, others need loot, some are scared of dying so shoot first etc etc, as long as there are guns and limited resources and cod kiddies there'll be this problem, personally i don't mind, it makes the game as scary as hell and i've got better at stealthy type playing. The best way to not get shot is to play in a careful and clever way and keep your fingers crossed.

  21. i believe that dogs are being introduced and can track animals already, so adding this feature would be relatively straight forward, obviously the dogs shouldn't be able to reveal names of players and maybe to track a particular player you need to find an exact spot he was at in say the last 10 minutes or something.
