    Just how bad are hackers?

As Sobieski says you should play on white listed only private hive servers with passwords, i've been playing on one for over a month and have yet to see or even hear about a single incident of hacking. Not all private hives are as well run as this one but there are some excellent servers out there.
  2. nice idea, wouldn't want to be in the drivers seat when an AS50 Nato round hits the tank tho wouldn't want to be within 500 metres come to think of it

Why does the L85 not have normal scope?

never use the la85 for shooting, just for scanning, then switch to either a sniper or assault depending on what i have in my pack. I love the thermal scope, hate the gun

    Suggestions for DayZ sandalone

Dearest Pavac, bonjuor =) Thankyou for your suggestion that is really a request, of course we'll do a linux version of dayz. It is our number one priority to ensure that both of the worlds linux users get their very own re-coded version, and the months of work will be well worth it I'm sure. I will mail you a copy as soon as it's done, keep checking the doormat. all my love, le Roquette xx
  5. The Hunter is a great game and there are definitely features that would enhance dayz and add real depth to the wilderness survival aspects.
  6. No character classes, no behavioural based skins, no humanity meter, no skills (except playing skill), no advantages/penalties, just a level playing field where the game is about survival and it is as equally difficult for everyone regardless of their approach. Co-operation already has it's benefits, anyone seen a lone wolf finding, repairing and keeping a chopper running for long? it's rare. Teamwork brings friends to guard your body so retrieval of gear is no issue, superior firepower to win engagements, eyes to watch all sectors when moving across the map etc etc..... The game should be kept simple and fair and the only advantages should come to those who play the game with great skill and those who use teamwork. That's it.

[Video] Sniper Takedown - The Rat Pack

your partner is woefully bad at relaying info dude, Despite this you got a very nice kill
  10. Humanity system needs to be removed, as has been said before on different threads - I understand that bullets make you bleed and bandages stop bleeding, eating keeps hunger at bay and not eating will kill you and the same for other features in dayz, I understand them because they are ideas borrowed from reality. someone please tell me what my real life humanity meter is and where i may find it? so i can have a better real life with nicer cars and be able to run faster etc. It is a bad idea because it has no basis in reality and therefore does not belong in a game that calls itself a simulator. Having humanity based rewards is a bad idea, the only thing that should be rewarded is skillful play and that is already rewarded by the fact that skillful players last longer and therefore get more chance to loot and gather quality gear before they die. This whole good v evil/hero v bandit thing is daft and should be buried. There is no clearcut difference between them anyway, too much grey area.

  12. time will tell buddy =)

  14. Having humanity affect things like spawning is a bad idea, the only thing that should be rewarded is skillful play and that is already rewarded by the fact that skillful players last longer and therefore get more chance to loot and gather quality gear before they die. This whole good v evil hero v bandit thing is daft and should be buried. There is no clearcut difference between them anyway, too much grey area. in fact banish skins as well while we're at it, as has been said before why would the way you decide to go about surviving an apocalypse dictate whether or not you'll be wearing an arabic headscarf or a lumberjack shirt. You can't tell what kind of person a player is by looking at his skin, it's silly.
  15. Or the hero, lets not pretend that bandits are the only ones who win the battles. As for rewarding play then personally my reward comes from just survivng a play session, as the hours clock up, the kills, the headshots etc that is my reward and death punishes me for making a mistake. No other system is required.
  16. Agreed. Except the part about your humanity level enabling you to keep hold of benefits. Again you want to reward a particular style of play. The game already has a punishment system in place, it is called dying, if you are a skilled player you die less, if you are a careful player you will die less, if you have lots of freinds on the server because you healed them all you will die less, if you are a bad ass pvp specialist you will die less etc etc etc.
  17. As long as any rewards/benefits for surviving are given to all players regardless of their in-game actions then we agree. Unfortunately, if something like a dayz scenario occured it is fair to say that natural selection would favour those who shoot first and ask later. The environment would be unfavourable to the over trusting, gentle souls and they would suffer unless they got smart and just stayed away from populated areas and avoid exposing themselves to uneccesary danger. Which is a strategy many dayz players employ to great effect.
  18. again you are seeking to bestow some advantage on a particular style of play (undoubtedly your own). Having humanity doesn't suddenly make you a medical genius. Being without morals doesn't make you suddenly incapable of learning new skills. http://www.sott.net/...orporate-ladder http://www.smithsoni...-176019901.html As these and other studies show psychopaths excel at many things, in fact they dominate the top tier of business, government and criminal gangs. If anything being 'good' should be handicapped.
  19. No no no, there should be absolutely no in game advantage bestowed upon any particular style of play, be it those who kill indiscriminately or those who are addicted to doing good deeds. The reward you get for your own prefered playing style is that you get to play in your own prefered playing style without censure. I know it sucks to get killed after several hours of gearing up and sneaking about, it happens to us all and for a moment we feel angry that someone has chosen to ruin our game, but then you think about it and you realise the exact opposite is true. You die in dayz because you deserve to die. You put your character into a situation where he could do nothing else. Whether you got cocky in elektro after a successful church loot and then got careless in the firehouse, if you got sniped from the hotel it isn't the snipers fault you presented him with such a tempting target, leading zeds into an enclosed space with a single makarov mag and the shakes? - your fault. Dying of thirst near a pond with no water bottle? yep, your fault. Surviving is extemely difficult on a busy server, it is just as dangerous for bandits as it is for heroes, the difference is in how well you play the game. As in life, if you do silly things, take risks where no risk is neccesary then sooner or later you will be punished.

    CryEngine 3 - Possible?

if dayz is the success we all hope it will be it will spawn imitations, some will be inferior (no need to name it) but others, maybe by using this cryengine or even superior engines that are yet to be developed, will be even better. The future for the genre of post-apocalypse survival simulators is looking very sweet indeed, thanks in no small part to the game that really started it all off - Dayz.
  21. There seems to be a lot of talk about encouraging people to play in groups, to make the game more social etc, but plenty of folks do just that, the harshness of the game, the regularity of unprovoked murders etc is pushing people to band up. I occasionally play solo for the fun of it, at night on packed servers just to see how far I get or how long I last but the most rewarding and 'safest' gameplay (if that's what you're after) can come from joining with others. Joining with groups is fraught with it's own set of challenges and dangers though. Selfish gits, team killers, thieves and liars populate the wasteland alongside honourable, decent, honest and friendly folks and this adds even more to the game in my opinion. i have even spent time in a rival clan spying and setting them up for my main clan, in order to inflict our own particular brand of karma. The various gameplay styles don't need policing, it's the way we all play it that should do that.

thats a lot of work for one or two days a year
  23. thing is dude, killing is fun, it might be something of an inconvenience to the person that's killed (believe me i know all about it) but for the killer it's pure lulz, sometimes the victims rage makes it even more fun and just serves to encourage more killing. As long as pointing a gun at another player, taking careful aim and pulling that trigger, as long as that oh so satisfying sound of the gunshot and the victims direct chat abuse inspire so much merriment and mirth (and that will be forever), then people who don't like to die will keep on grumbling, until, like i did, they grow some balls and start killing before they themselves get killed. And then they too will giggle a little at the carebears rants. The sense of relief, pleasure and pride you get when you survive an engagement is about as good as dayz gets, double it if you kill the guy that fired on you first. The fear of being shot is the only real fear the game currently has as no one is really afraid of the zombies, once they work out the mechanics etc. We need the killers to get our hearts racing and for the tension and fear and sheer fucking elation they generate.
