Using multiple aliases, you could potentially set up camps in multiple places on one server, loot farm on other server, then place that loot in those camps or your own survival. You're basically a team of one in that case. I don't know if anyone does this and you'd have to be pretty psychotic to do it (and let's face it, it's been proven there are certain individuals who will stop at nothing to get the best and most items), but it's a potential exploit that should be avoided out of fairness to everyone else. Also, like Fraggle was pointing out, your actions should have consequences. If rAGEhard656 has a reputation for being a dick, that will follow him no matter where he goes in the community. Having one name makes it easier to identify one another and most importantly build trust and a healthy gaming community.

A controller with this game sucks. I've tried it and it's impossible to match the speed and precision that comes with a mouse. This game will most certainly require a keyboard and mouse and if it does go on consoles in the future, it would have to be a watered down version. I can't see any other alternative.

Exactly. I've said this before, I think DayZ needs to take the Minecraft approach: one license, one account, one alias, that's it. Virtually all your problems of ghosting and loot farming would be eliminated.

wall of zombies sweeping west-east accross the entire map
Marshmallow (DayZ) replied to timdl's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Too theatrical. Where are these zombies going? There's no rationale for them to form a wall and start shuffling down the street like a certain music video. -
Kudos for being considerate and highlighting your points. :beans: I think those suggestions are great! The easiest of all those to implement is programming animals to run away from players. If anyone has ever hunted IRL, it's very difficult to approach any wild animal even with a gun and I'm sure wild animals would be more weary with zombies running about. To make the game more hardcore, I think cows and goats should be removed from the stand alone only because they typically don't have a tendency to flee from humans, so hunting them is like shooting fish in a barrel. I also like your thoughts on constructing lean-tos or makeshift shelters in the woods to make the woods a less secure place.

The crossbow and how useless it is
Marshmallow (DayZ) replied to luked50's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the crossbow for killing zombies, but yes, I think one space in your inventory should allow for at least 3 bolts. I also wish retrieving bolts was a little easier. I like the fact that you have to meticulously pick them off the bodies, but you can't move bodies so it's impossible if the zombie is laying on the bolt. But one big gripe I have with the crossbow is it's incredibly difficult to aim if you don't have crosshairs because I can't determine if the bolts have an arc or how fast they're moving. That may have a little bit to do with me running the game at 800x600 too, but does anyone else feel that way? -
Do you mean chat with everyone on the forum at once or everyone in the game at once? I think a better solution is to start a DayZ chat room elsewhere. Both the forum's servers and the game servers are bogged down as it is.

Why not remove the glitchy dead guys until the standalone?
Marshmallow (DayZ) replied to M8EO's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I have to say this is the most infuriating glitch in the game. Nothing is worse when you find yourself in a shootout with another player and you can't even look up to see where the shots are coming from. -
a list of good dayz suggestions....
Marshmallow (DayZ) replied to apache25's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think these suggestions are far too specific. The developers will work out the balancing issues with their own ingenuity, so there's no need to say exactly what should be in a cupboard in this house and how many days until zombies respawn. It might've been more appropriate to say, "enterable houses should yield a higher percentage of food and common goods." That being said, the only suggestion I can agree with is zombies should be slower, but only a smudge so a healthy player can at least out run them. -
Sounds like you're playing the wrong kind of game. You may want to hold out for State of Decay or keep trying with DayZ. Patience and strategy is key to survive in DayZ and there's no intention to make this game less hardcore than it already is. I think everyone else posting after me will agree.

What about custom tattoos or patches? Players could upload them as a JPEG or PNG.

DayZ Stand alone ideas / suggestions
Marshmallow (DayZ) replied to padla's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think Rocket already stated he's going to give players the ability to keep a journal. I don't know about this, but it would be great to be able to write messages on paper and post them places. -
Remove Thermal Abilities From Weapons
Marshmallow (DayZ) replied to magicflute's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If a player has a better weapon than his victim, it's obvious to say he has an advantage over his victim. What's wrong with that? -
No Super Soakers instead of DMRs? C'mon! <_<
-
If you're asking for rare, cool weapons, I think being able to find weapons like a DMR and FN FAL ANPV S4 is pretty far out as it is without breaking the realism of the game. Plus, how would a player find ammo for such weapons? They'd basically become cumbersome because you can only make a few shots and that's it, no more ammo. Also, if the zombie virus outbreak enveloped all of Chernarus, why would there be top secret weapons under development in the very place where the outbreak has occurred? Nah, sorry, but it's just too farfetched to start making up weapons.

a new inventory UI for stand alone (picture inside)
Marshmallow (DayZ) replied to Bat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the OP's rendering better. It's more intuitive and easier to read, plus weight should be a factor in what you can carry too. -
I tried searching if this had been suggested because it seems so obvious, but why not give players the option to play as zombies in the standalone? Think about it, survival elements would be disabled so you have infinite hunger and thirst, but your mobility is limited and of course you can only do melee damage. I think it would just be a fun curiosity to explore, like playing as the goat in Arma!

Thanks, it's Wishbone by the way. He was on an old show with the same name on PBS from quite a few years ago.

Seperate slot for melee weapon
Marshmallow (DayZ) replied to Bruin (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No on the samurai sword as that's a little too fantasy, but I just don't understand why I can't fling out my hatchet when it's already on my tool belt. I think that needs to be addressed and if we're going to have melee weapons, common items like baseball bats, pipes, shovels, and things of that nature should be available to use. -
Good point. Oh well!

Point-Buy Character Creation
Marshmallow (DayZ) replied to xximrtwoixx's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree. I don't think this is a game where classes and skills fit in. Everyone is created equal and your abilities are only limited by your mouse, keyboard, and brains and DayZ isn't a game where your character grows over time. You're bound to be killed, multiple times, and when you are killed it's permanent. That's what makes this game so thrilling for many of us because the stakes are high. Let me also add that DayZ is style of gameplay that hasn't been seen for ages, so the last thing many of us want to see is the game to follow the same boring track a thousand other games have gone. The game is immensely simple, yet equally complex, and that's interesting. Kind of like Minecraft. -
I agree. Next, people will be asking to put Herobrine in DayZ. Zombies are the only mythical creatures I want to see in this game. No silly monsters or bogeymen.

a new inventory UI for stand alone (picture inside)
Marshmallow (DayZ) replied to Bat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Nice work! I like it. I think a tool belt to holster more items would be a great addition to the game. Initially you should start out with just your pockets, which would be the equivalent of maybe 6 slots worth of items (including your secondary weapon). A tool belt might double that. -
That's an inherent risk one takes when you're survivor anyway. You weigh your options of whether or not you can trust someone and if you can't, take the shot and live with the consequences. But when you die, that's game over. You pick a new gender and you're back on the coast with a flashlight, so it doesn't make much sense that your new character retains the credentials of your old character.
