    Chat feature

    Best thing to do is to go into controls and assign a key to 'talk on direct channel'. That way you'll always communicating on the right channel. You'll have to use the (,) and (.) like fty170 explaned when you want to send text on direct channel, though.

    Survival tips for rookies.... from an ex-rookie ;-)

    Good list and good tips, well done. I have one more for the list: while sneaking in towns/villages: stick to the structures - you're a lot less visible that way (check the 'eye' symbol, it shows less lines).

    How popular is this game?

    DayZ is not an investment, it's an adventure. Be prepared to gain all and lose all, to meet new friends and to get murdered by them for your beans... Be ready to navigate a hostile world without a map or a compass. Expect to get so afraid of losing your life and your loot that you don't want to log on anymore...but still you do because you get hungry for more... Don't come back here complaining when you suddenly find that you are sneaking through your own house because you "don't want to aggro the infected..." Can't say I didn't warn you ;-)

    equipping an axe as a secondary?

    right-click on your melee weapon in your inventory to remove it from your belt to your secondary slot. And 'reload' your melee after that.

    Am I the only one who not using external map

    I agree that an external 'loot' map would take away some of the experience. I don't use 'm either. But I think that everyone should decide for himself, there is no moral judgement here. I do have a big printed map, but there are no spawnlocations or lootlocations etc on it. I use a pen to add my own findings about Chernarus to this map, adding new information when I find something ingame. That's what I would do in real life. It makes me feel like a real survivor.

    Bandits = Amazing... Stop Crying.

    1) Everybody should play how they like it (without using exploits that is). +++ the murderers +++ Some people, the murderers who kill everybody just because they *like* it, still have to discover the hidden levels of gameplay. Those people I don't call 'bandits', they are murderers and mostly noobs imo. They are noobs because they still don't know about the true nature of this mod. Even though they may have played for months and know all the controls, the map and whatnot. There is room for the 'murderers' in this mod, they just have to transition to a different level. They are still in 'noob-mode' sort of speak. +++the real bandits +++ The 'real bandits' do kill people, but not everybody. They don't kill because they are 'murdering psychopats' like the 'murderers', they kill because they have to. The situation wants it. But if the situation wants it, they let people live too. Let them on their way. This way they can feel the inmense power they have, deciding over life and death. The 'real bandits' are great and definitely belong in this mod, imo.

    let the hopper wars begin

    I like it, justice is coming to Chernarus. If I'm in the neighbourhood I'd like to help.

    Crowbar hack spawn middle of nowhere

    Starting on the coast is suicide, *you* are better of heading further inland. Find a quiet village and start looting a basic gear.

    Just saying hello

    Welcome to the mod, hope you'll enjoy it! Play the Arma2 bootcamp missions first, that way you can set up your controls and get a 'feel' for the game. It's not a fps-shooter, allthough there is some shooting going on, of course. You cannot stand in the middle of the road blasting away with your AK, there are more skills involved. COD/BF3 experience is *not* going to help in this mod. Don't forget to install the latest Arma2 betapatch before you start playing. Good luck and see you in the field :-)

    My personall thoughts Check this out!

    In my opinion, there should'nt be segregation between players and playstyles. Chernarus is big enough for all, and the mod gets it's strenght from mixing those playstyles together.

    steam question

    Arma 2 + Arma 2 OA = Arma 2 CO Don't forget to install the Arma 2 betapatch: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php/ Add this to the provided shortcut: -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion;CA;@DayZ (CA = launch as Combined Operations, @DayZ = launch DayZ) And you're good to go.

    Who's playing guitar in Cherno???

    That's such a nice idea! I think it's great. I would come and listen to you.
  23. Let's focus on the good parts, and not keep coming back to these issues. Giving all this attention to the negative aspects only strengthens them. I usually don't post in threads like this, but I agree: all what you say is true. But let's not focus on it by making post about it or adding content to existing negative threads.
