AFAIK you don't need to start up steam to play DayZ. I'm not using Dayzcommander ATM, but I have Arma 2 / OA on Steam. I use the shortcut provided by the Betapatch to startup DayZ. So, I think there is no need to startup Steam first, just use Dayzcommander directly.

I like to roleplay the survivor-part, it's fun to me. I enjoy hiking out in Chernarus, walking trough forests; enjoying the great views and knowing that danger could be just around the corner. I love the interaction with other players, not knowing if I can trust them or not. I love looking for new survivalgear and making choices about what to take with me and what not. Because it's such a sandbox-mod I can set my own goals in this world, I really enjoy this. When I've reached a goal I think of a new one. For me, there is no 'end-game', this game can go on forever. I've been playing since the start of DayZ, I have been playing Operation Flashpoint (and I just loved it, it was so realistic); I didn't play Arma 2 before DayZ.

And there is the Mountain Dew of course. Better stay away from that one, it's cursed.

I've asked some walkers, some crawlers and some hoppers for their opinion on this matter. They *insist* it's pronounced: "Grrrr!...Grrrrrrrrowl...Grrrrrrrrowl!" And, hey: it's their mod - they should know :-) I'm off to play some Grrrrrr-growl now.

You should have used the arrows in your inventory to drop the DMR onto the lootpile, NOT the dropbutton. Too bad you lost it, though.

Me too, I do it all the time. IMO It's the safest way to temporarily stash loot in the woods. But remember it has only 8 free slots. If I have to drop stuff on the ground I always create a lootpile first: First drop a can of beans or a bandage or something. Something inexpensive. If you lose that, it doesn't really matter. It will create a little lootpile for you and you can drop your other (expensive) stuff safely on that lootpile.

Money doesn't make it interesting for me. Better to hook up a machine that delivers an electrical shock everytime your character dies. Not a letal shock ofcourse :-) Just high enough to keep you wanting to avoid it. Because it really hurts and it makes you blackout for a couple of minutes...something like that.

Good find! - Elite 999/666 - I see what you mean :-) One million, threehundred-and-thirtyseven thousand, ninehundred-and-nineteennine people. Working together. Making this number. Just wow. So many people playing this mod, it's amazing. (As a sidenote: I've read somewhere that some people say that 999 is the same as 666; because 'as above' 'so below'. So turning 666 upsidedown is not even necessary to make it the number of the beast.)

Verify integrity of game cache (because it says there are corrupt files) Right click ARMA 2 : OA > Local Files > Verify integrity of game cache, and then it should launch, you will then need to follow the steps again to install the beta, as the verification will revert to the default .exe hope it helps and fixes your issue

There are backpacks in DayZ??? And what is this ALICE you keep talking about, is it like a NPC-girl you can 'use'? Just scroll on her until she does her action? Lol, I'm sorry for joking; but seriously, thanks for sharing your info. It is always appreciated.

It is indeed the safest way of life. Stay out of sight, observe without being seen. There is no need to make contact with other players when there is no direct gain. Travel only through forested areas or under cover of darkness. Never cross an open field, take the safe way around it. Keep your head on a swivel and your ears wide open. Maintain 360 degrees awareness. It's the way of the lone wolf.

But then it will happen to you, it's only natural. If you shoot people on sight, people will shoot you on sight, it's like a vicious circle. You reap what you sow...that's the law of the land.

Make sure they have their back turned to you, IMO you can then disarm them safely. Just tell them to "not turn towards the voice" and let them go into their inventory and drop their weapon(s) on the ground. If they turn to face you, you shoot them.

IMO; realistically speaking: a year after the outbreak people would probably all be traveling in horse drawn carts, not in motorcars. Or carts drawn by an ox, dogs or even humans. There would also still be bicycles. It would be somewhat like stepping back into the middle-ages.

There are places on the map where the foilage is thicker and the trees are closer together. The best spots IMO are those where there is a mixture of different trees and foilage, all close together, like at 007020. I know, that's West of Skalka, and you ruled that one out already :-) But you really have to travel around, and look for it. I hope you'll find someplace good.

It's great to have this many people together, and it's such a beautiful day for it too.

The solution is simple, change your playstyle. Stop murdering other people for a start. If you want to change the world you start with yourself. The only change can come from within, because the Mod *allows* you to make your own choices. So, in the end, there is no one else to blame but ourselves. So, in fact, there is no issue. It's just people.

AFAIK there is no reliable answer, IMO there is no way to know if a server will 'last' for a long time. I've had the same problem as you; trying to make a home on a public server somewhere, but to no avail. I gave up searching, I'm just living out of my backpack now.

This happend to me too. I once found a vehicle (jay!), got in and drove it away. After a while I stopped, got out to get some loot...and then the vehicle vanished! I was like OMG how is this possible? It got me confused for a couple of minutes, looking around for the vehicle. I mean, I was right next to it when it vanished. I found out later it probably was some hackers, teleporting the vehicle to their location. Because later that same session, in a different location, I saw the vehicle re-appear out of thin air, with two people inside. They got out and I saw how they made a cardboard box appear out of nothing. I left that server, because I don't want to play with hackers.
