Which new pc would be better?

I believe that Ivy Bridge is just fine for gaming. They are cooler than Sandy and a little faster at the same clock speed. If you want to overclock, slap a $30 cooler master on it or a $60 Antec 620 H20 CPU water cooler and you're good to go. You can get very decent overclocks with Ivy and decent cooling.
  2. I just got an new rig with a SSD. Coming from a 7200RPM HDD, I didn't see a huge increase in FPS. The load time is much faster, but sometimes it doesn't really matter because the server itself might be causing load delays (waiting for character to create, etc). So as far as FPS is concerned, I don't think my SSD has really done much. But it is definitely a lot faster in terms of loading times. I really like it for that reason alone. Windows is much snappier, too. I can completely reboot in 19 seconds flat. Here's my system: intel i5 3570K @ 3.4GHz EVGA GTX 670 FTW 8 GB 1600MHz RAM 256 GB Crucial M4 SSD 1 TB 7200 RPM Wester Digital Caviar Black Corsair AX850 PSU ASUS P8Z77-V Pro motherboard With those specs, I get anywhere from 50-70 FPS in the wilderness (generally around 60 on average), but it can drop as low as 34ish when I look at a city such as Cherno. Bear in mind that I'm running the game pretty much completely maxed at 1920x1080.

What kind of FPS do you guys get?

You mean if I overclock my CPU? Would that net me more of a gain than if I double up on the 670s? In other words, is the CPU my bottleneck?

    New Computer Specs

And how many FPS does it drop down to when you go into Cherno or another big city? I have a similar rig, except I have an i5 3570K and an EVGA GTX 670 FTW (factory overclocked). When I look at Cherno, my FPS tanks down to 34 or so, and I also have everything pretty much maxed (with the exception of AA) at 1920x1080. Outside of cities in the wilderness, my FPS is usually 60+ average. I think I can say with confidence that a $600 rig will not let you run this game with absolutely no "lag" (aka, FPS below 55-60). A smooth gameplay experience means FPS no less than 60, and there's no way a $600 rig can get you there on Day Z. In fact, I'm considering purchasing a second GTX 670 for SLI to see how much it improves my framerate. I would think quite a bit. If you really want "no lag" on Day Z, be prepared to spend around $1500 minimum.
  5. Why is this something to be "fixed"? I thought that was part of the feel of the game..
  6. I want to use these launch options: -nosplash -mod=@dayz -nopause Perhaps the -mod isn't needed when you use Six, but I would really like -nosplash and -nopause. Is there a way to do this when playing through Six? Also, do the majority of players on here use Six, or something else?
  7. I can average anywhere from 40-60fps anywhere BUT cities -- when I look at a city it drops down to 25-30 average FPS. Setting everything to "very low", the highest I can get it is maybe 35 on average. Anyways, I'm sure there's myriad threads on this issue but maybe the more that crop up, the more precendence this will take. I'm hoping that Day Z will see a skyrim-esque FPS improvement -- I remember that in Whiterun my FPS was around 30, and after one specific update, it almost doubled! I'm hoping to see optimization like this happen for Day Z. Are my hopes misplaced? Also, for reference, here's my system: intel i7 930 @ 2.8GHz 2x GTX 470 SLI 12GB DDR3 RAM I get pretty decent FPS everywhere even on high/very high (40-50 average), but it drops pretty substantially in cities. All I have to do to increase it is look away from the city lol.
  8. I got attacked by a few zombies and now I'm at 661 BP. For awhile, the hourglass would come up and my character would spin around and fall down, but get up seconds later. Now, I've fallen and I can't get up. I can't even move, either. All I can do is rotate my character 360 degrees to look around me, but I can't crawl in any direction. I'm stuck in prone, in one spot. Is this because of my low blood? I thought you could always at least crawl.. How can I turn that gun around and put a bullet in my head? Is there any way to suicide? If I quit and rejoin a different server will I be in the same predicament? Don't know what to do
  9. If you have only one weapon, is your only option to relog? In other words, is it possible to "switch weapons" with only one weapon?
  10. To give a little background, I've been playing shooters since doom and wolfenstein originally came out. A few of my favorites are Half-Life 2, Resident Evil 4, F.E.A.R., and Metro 2033 I think that Day Z has the potential to be one of the greatest shooter/survival horror experiences to ever be released. I know this has been said elsewhere, but it really does feel like a multiplayer version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., another great game. However, in its current state, Day Z just doesn't offer a whole lot in terms of a fun and varied playing experience. Sure, it's fun to run around the countryside, sneak around zombies, and get into confrontations with other players, but when you do it so many times, it starts to lose a little of that initial appeal - and I've only played for about seven hours so far. I can't imagine how those of you feel who have been playing it for months now. I would think that I'd get burnt out on it pretty quick the way it is now, but maybe there is more depth than I'm able to realize right now since I'm such a new player. One of the things that kind of annoys me is the fact that it seems relatively difficult to get stuff. Even a basic pistol or shotgun. I played for literally four hours before I came across a gun, and when I did, it was a shotgun with two pellets. Eventually, I found a Makarov, but those are literally the only two guns I came across in my seven-hour play time. Maybe that is somewhat normal, but after the first hour of running around unarmed, it gets kind of old going up to buildings trying to open doors and searching through countless shacks just to find a gun. At the same time, I like the fact that not everything is just handed to you up front, because I think that would take away from a lot of enjoyment of the game if it was. Long story short, I think that Day Z could potentially be something very special, but right now it's just a pretty fun tech demo (in my mind). There needs to be more variety in the gameplay. Different things to do, etc. Plus, the FPS is absolutely terrible. The game would be probably ten times more enjoyable if it was optimized better so as to use more than 30% of each of my GPUs.
  11. What does this do? Is it just a glitch? I am back up and moving around now, but I have no idea why. This happened before I read your post about switching weapons. And yeah, no fractures. I don't have the bone symbol on my screen so I'm assuming that means I don't have any broken bones. As far as I know, I'm simply low on blood. My food and water and temp are all good.

    Day Z First Impressions

You're right, I don't. Please, tell me what I need to do in order to find some gear! Are most of you guys using that online map to know where to go? I wanted to avoid using it because it kind of seems like "cheating" to me, but is that how you guys know where to go and where to get gear? I would really appreciate some tips on this. Also, to those of you who have multiple characters, how is this possible? I thought your character/items were persistent across each and every server..
