    Noticeably lower FPS on 1.6.0

same goes here for me. Server hopped around because I heard apparently some people were good on some servers, and bad on others, but every server I joined was 5-10 frames. And I usually can play on high/very high

    Horror Visual Filter

Now this isn't much of a realistic idea, but after all I think some things should be made to look how you want the world to feel. Films like the ring and the road have a very stylish, bleak looking filters to give the movie a much better atmosphere. Games like max Payne, silent hill, I am alive, etc. all have a great visual flare. Now dayZ looks realistic, but minus the ghost towns and some bombed sites, things seem pretty pre-apocalyptic. What I'm suggesting is adding an option to turn on and off a visual filter that amps up the contrast and bloom, also have 40-60% grayscale. Perhaps even a grainy effect. Either way, to me, this would give the game a much more post-apocalyptic, bleak feel, while looking stylish. Games like this crave atmosphere, and at the moment, visually, it's lacking. People will say this isn't very realistic, and doesn't present itself in a very 'simulated' manner. But at the end of the day, it's just a game, and if something small (no matter how unrealistic) makes the visual experience that much better, I'm all for it. Also, you'd be able to turn it off at your own free will. It's just a simple addition that could really add to the experience

    Allow the settling of towns

I already stated in my post that the power grid needs to be refueled a few times a day. Once the power grid fails (from lack of fuel/care or being taken over by an opposing town/group), the town is up for grabs.

    Skills and skin appearance

There's too many problems with this. It'd getting tiring having to redo an ability system every time you die, and what if suddenly you find a whole bunch of bandages and say "shit, I wish I was the medic right now"? You wouldn't have the ability to just change then and there. It's pretty much throw in the tools the players need in the world, and let them do what they want, swap and change what they wanna do at any point in time.

    Allow the settling of towns

In the thread I created regarding this exact topic, we came up with the need to fix and refuel the towns generator a few times a day, which the towns lights come on at night, and prevents zombies from coming in (for example, electric fencing, etc), but regarding a town being taken over by another group, that's just a risk you have to take when you decide you want to populate a town. These sort of features promote people working together more frequently, and then seamlessly blend unnofficial factions into each server. You'll have survivors, bandits/greivers (a situation where grief actually can become useful), and then lone wolves who want nothing to do with the towns, and turf wars. It's a dynamic aspect that will keep the game extremely fresh without the need for any end game objectives. Either way, it add's to the realism. I suggested the use of lockers, where there is a locker room in each town. If a locker is free, you put in a 3 or 4 didgit code (nothing too hard) so you can put supplies in there. But once a town has been either A.) overrun with zombies, or B.) Another town attacks you, the supplies become free for all. It's a good incentive for there to be sieges on your town from other players. The way this can be done is if a generator/power grid in a town is knocked out, then that town officially becomes abandoned, which then lets all the supplies be looted. Basically the power grids keep a town pumping until its knocked out, but those power grids need to be fueled to keep active, so if it doesn't get the attention it needs, it becomes abandoned without any assistance. This adds the need to find fuel to keep your town running, if you don't find any, you run the risk of it falling to pieces. It still promotes adventuring

    Girl Character?

Haha definitely sounds like a plan. A bandits tricks at work!

    Girl Character?

While I can see where you're coming from Joke, regarding the psychological aspect, how long will it take before people just stop caring? It's either a do or die game afterall, and people are pretty selfish when it comes to survival. Nothing negative meant by that, btw. And not to mention, I can't imagine it'd be making that much of a difference for your gameplay. It might, we may see, but I'm definitely thinking for a majority of players, they will react pretty much the same regardless of gender. But hey, if it feels like it gives you that edge, more power to you ;) @Griff Thank you, my point exactly.

    Girl Character?

@TeaLeaf Not to mention that women can wear slightly bulky clothing to give them a bigger appearance @Griff and Timberwolf I didn't mean to come off rude, I just can't see the logic in what people are saying when there's obvious solutions, or making problems where there is none. I do apologise if I offended anyone.

    Girl Character?

Putting words in your mouth? You SPECIFICALLY stated that if someone was indeed wanting to play as a woman, they'd have to prove that they are female first by showing a photo to god knows who cares, then be ALLOWED to access a gender. Nothing about my reply is putting words in your mouth, Sir. And in your post, I did not see you stating anything regarding player characters serving advantages and disadvantages, so I don't exactly know where you're pulling that from. I don't see anyone asking for specific characters (of either gender) requiring any special treatment, as that could lead to A.) Classes, and this is not an RPG, and B.) Fights about sexism. Even if classes were to serve a purpose, I don't see how showing a photo of who you are to someone should prove that you should have more of an advantage over someone else. Thats idiotic in itself. Classes shouldn't be gender specific, they should be equal all round. And no. The only way female characters to work is to not possess advantages. To work is to simply be a varient aesthetic, for people to have a variety of options as to how they want to represent themself in a game. No 'advantages' because they may have a more petite frame, and tall women indeed exist. I, infact am the tallest out of everyone in my family, and most of my friends. If every other shooter game can work it with no problem, I don't see how DayZ can't. I'm not trying to be aggressive, but when you say stupid things, it can obviously lead to a reply that may disatisfy you. And bat, lol, I don't think women should wear the same outfit as men, as the men in this game have extremely manly bodies. Similar theme of clothing, perhaps, but not the same.

    Girl Character?

Um, what? There's so many things wrong with that because A.) Does a man have to show a photo to someone so they can be allowed to play as a male character in that case? B.) Who are you to say a man can't play as a woman or a woman can't play as a man? and C.) It's your dilema that you have a problem with people playing as a character in a video game as the opposite sex to what they actually are. No one should be punished, or justify what they want to do for your immaturity. If you feel guilt for shooting a pixelated character that represents a female, fine, you deserve to get shot back in the face. There's nothing wrong with playing the opposite sex, it's obviously just how someone wants to play the game, and no way in hell can you say "you can't do that" to anyone.

    Player run towns?

I restated that a warehouse with lockers in them or a similar system with a combination lock could be used to store items. I mean, having a whole house to yourself is pretty pointless when you could use it as a medical centre, or something. I'm not top concerned with npc's, I pretty much like the idea of having it completely player controlled. As someone said, it's a risk reward system. I like the idea of having to refuel the power grid once or twice a day, to keep the zombies away. As far as other player groups taking over your town, you just have to make sure you have a tight knit group, otherwise what's the point in having towns? I'm assuming servers would split into three main groups. Survivors, bandits and lone wolves. That's enough players to keep support in each town.

    Player run towns?

Good question. It should depend on how well people build up the security of the town I suppose. If the towns contain perks such as supply management, I'm sure there would always be a few people in town at time, not to mention if a few people in town are using the place to help the wounded. But yeah, it's still a problem. Perhaps the power grid needs to be refuelled once or twice a day to keep active. If the grid starts failing, then things like the lights, perhaps even electrical fences start failing, leaving the town exposed

    Player run towns?

I think there should be some form of security system for people who have laid supplies in a safe house in the town. Once the town gets taken over, the supplies become lootable by anyone of course. Maybe there's a warehouse with lockers in every town And you have to put in a lock combination to access and lock the locker with.
  15. If there was a way to sneak up on a player, and put a gun to their back, so that the other player goes into automatic surrender, the handcuffing system would work better. That way you don't have to be incapped to be handcuffed. Basically that cuffed player is imobile until the other player leaves. Then you can run away. That way no one gets shot, and its a clean escape Moral of the story? Watch your back at all times, otherwise you get your ass robbed

Spawn survivors with only a flashlight

I was about to say, if the game had a melee system this would be perfect. I'd at least like to see a shoving function.
  17. iashford

    Player run towns?

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. As I said, this was just a basic suggestion and I'm more then happy to hear people build upon it.
  18. iashford

    Class System

I don't like class systems in a simulator. It should be you yourself recognising your own strengths, and working with them. Selecting what you start off with though, is a better suggestion. In a game that the average life span of is 30 minutes, classes is just unnecessary. It adds in a whole range of balance issues that just isn't worth the time, when you should be focusing on your own playstyle.

Spawn survivors with only a flashlight

Could it not be server selected? For instance, a server can choose what items players spawn with? I agree that backpacks should be taken out, so it becomes a priority of finding one as soon as you enter the game. Of course, that again should be server chosen. That way people can choose whether they want to have a more hardcore start off to surviving or not.
  20. iashford

    Girl Character?

Agreed on this, of course. I suggested in another thread that (both male and female characters) should select upon entering a game (if dead, and respawning) from 5 different heads, 5 different bodies/outfits, then a bunch of colour schemes. That way, you get a LOT of variations for half the work.
  21. iashford

The "I know that guy" visual system

Agreed on that more player models would be approrpiate. Is it possible for the engine to be able to Choose a head, then a body/outfit seperately, as well as choosing a different colour scheme? Say there's 2 heads, 2 outfits and 2 colour schemes for said outfits. That'd give you what, 12 different variations (I hate math, makes my head hurt so I'm most likely wrong lol)? Eitherway, it's a good setup to add variety. Now say you have 5 male heads, 5 bodies/outfits, 10 colour scehemes, 5 female heads, 5 bodies/outfits, and 10 colour schemes, you get a lot of variations.
  22. I think the most that should happen is be borderline death when you log in, no matter how many days you're gone (I'm often gone from 2 days a week, up to 6 days in Brisbane), but the implications of not eating/looking after yourself should be more severe. Like, stomach grumbling so that it gives your position away to zombies or players. Dehydration makes your screen blurry and you stumble rather then run, etc. I'd much prefer to be more exposed to being killed, rather then instant death for not being able to play.
  23. iashford

    Dragging Corpses

I'd love for it to be allowed on wounded people as well. Seems more useful to do it on wounded people then corpses lol, but either I'm happy with
  24. You're right, I can't know for sure whether or not there would be huge grieving, but its a huge possibility. But hey, if it was added as a test, I'd be more then happy to try it out. As I said, it could be messy, and more effort then what its worth
  25. While I will give you credit for your motives, how often will two people who's actually genuinely wanted to use the feature would you come across? I'm guessing most of the time you'll have someone who can't be bothered hancuffing and shoot you down, or you'll have someone who just suicides/disconnects. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea, but realisticly, how often are you gonna come across 2 players that are actually wanting to participate in the situation? I mean I would, but I can imagine a shit load more people just saying 'F*** it'.
