wall climbing and machetes and car hot wiring plus more
iashford replied to apache25's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I want climbing walls, and player boosting up -
Enlighten me, because the biggest question I have is: How do you differentiate the difference between an exploiter and a believer? How does having a religious system in the way that you suggest add ANYTHING to the game, other then some trivial nonsensical feature for the religious? In my opinion, the problem you are trying to solve isn't for religion to get involved, there's a much more practical and reliable system, as people have suggested. If you want to fight for religion in a post-apocalyptic situation, fine, go for gold. But when things such as politics, form over government and factions (ie religion) features are involved, I don't think the best way is to blatantly have these features automatically labelled as anything specifically. Give people the tools to be able to create things for themselves and make it mean what you want it to mean. If you want a religious community, build one in a church or whatever, recruit other religious people, call the community 'house of god' or whatever but label it Christianity on your own terms, don't let the game designate a title for you. You're trying to force religion on other people instead of giving things the meaning you want it to. I know compromise isn't the best thing to ask from highly devoted Christians/Catholics/etc. but when it comes to a game that has a large number of people from every market, you can't settle for 'my way or the highway'

Um, what a needless feature. While I think some form of religion could be interesting, such an exploitable feature is really just dumb. You want to have good humanity? Go save some people, help them out and help them survive. Just like in real life, sitting around on your fat ass doesn't have any positive implications, only the ones that you make yourself 'feel'. I'm not bashing religion, but my question is: if you want to be good after doing bad, why should you not have to work at being good (ie helping survivors) when you could take the lazy option by merely kneeling at a pixelated alter? By the logic of religion, if I shoot someone in the face, I should be rewarded by simply saying a few words in what people consider to be a holy place. No, that doesn't cut it. If I kill someone, I damn well have to get dirty to earn any kind of forgiveness.

Didn't resident evil 2 and dawn of the dead have infected children that get killed? Kinda not seeing the difference. Not to mention that aliens vs predators 2 movie where you see like an 8 year old get chest bursted. Then there's that whole baby scene from feast 2. While I'm sure that there would be controversy, there's also undeniably work arounds. What I love about dayZ is it hasn't been ruined by the console casual mainstream market, and isn't afraid to try anything outside of a cover-based shooter

While yes, I agree with you on the part where you say you can edit pre-existing models (such as the ghillie suit) to have the more feminine shape (which may I add is completely unnecessary at this point, as they'd look virtually the same) there's still the issue of rigging which can take hours, if not, days of work, which is completely uneccessary, as I've already stated the detail is so minimal not to bother. I say just give females the male ghillie suit model and be done with it till standalone. And this is coming from a female player. Source: I make 3D models so I know wtf I'm talking about

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
iashford replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I el I would like lowering my weapon to apply to both primary guns and pistols. I hate the pistol aiming animation by itself, so I'd rather have it in relaxed mode when I'm by myself -
... And suddenly there's dinosaurs!!!

Unless there's a major hub on a totally different island that has other surviving people and NPC's that the evac chopper takes you too, I don't see any point in this. I mean, you get on a chopper and survive, what then? It's a feature that will retain novelty of a whole five minutes. In the end, it's completely pointless and people would forget about it, cause you know... They'd rather play a survival simulator instead of getting to a chopper that ends the game and has no reward. The idea is flawed. However, as I said, if there was another island that's a lot smaller and has a big settlement on it, where you can get quests and/or supplies from, then the evac chopper could work. It means you get to go somewhere safe, and you can return to surviving in another place when you're ready. The hub could have NPC's, guards and stuff, but still not safe from bandits. However, I read that rocket doesn't want to add in NPC's so the whole idea would be pointless.

Absolutely, I agree, however from my understanding things such as graphics, animations, models, etc. are made in a different group of people, from those who are doing things such as coding, balancing, game features etc. But all that is pointless to my original question, and I was asking it purely to gain other people's interests so it can be confirmed.

You make it sound like expecting some eye candy is wrong. I'm sorry I like feeling immersed in a survival simulator? In a game that prides itself on immersion atmosphere, believe it or not, visuals are a big thing. Not saying they have to be amazing, but I'm not gonna lie and say 'it's great the way it is' when we've seen what arma 3 can do. I'm not complaining, purely just proving a point. PS: I hate battlefield

bug-fixing and moreennerable buildings doesn't answer my question as to whether the graphics are being updated

Finally some news! I like the idea of child infected. While I don't take pleasure in shooting children, I would like them to take full advantage of the fact they are aiming to be a zombie simulator. I must acknowledge that they didn't mention anything regarding graphics. Are they revamping Cherno for the sake of refreshing it, or are they literally bringing Cherno up to arma3 standards in terms of shadows, textures, quality, etc.?

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
iashford replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd like the ability to hit zombies with my rifle butt, that will leave them momentarily confused and staggered. And a huge range of civilian clothing -
I like the characters being server swappable, however when things such as settlements as what not get introduced, they should be server bound.

People are idiots. Mmo's get developed on the cryengine, like Archeage. Archeage has no loading screens on a HUGE detailed map that not only supports 3 countries but also a huge open sea which is fully explorable, all while hosting thousands of players. The cryengine is a lot better optimised then the arma one too, and can run on a far more expansive range of PC's. Also, people need to realise that an engine doesn't determine how the style of the game looks or plays, it's completely up to the art director and 3D modellers. You can make a totally fast paced FPS game, and a clunky, sluggish, atmospheric survival horror game on the exact same engine, it's just how well you are at good making. I personally like the cryengine more because it's a lot responsive and has already been proven to be a very well optimised, flexible engine, all of which will give Day Z what it needs, and then some. But if rocket can make the arma engine fluid and well optimised, I don't really care.

I'd like to see subway railway tunnels, like fallout 3, with people making safe settlements down there and stuff. It'd be a lot of fun

After playing lingor island, I thought a dinosaur mod of dayZ standalone would be incredible
-
I like this idea +1 Obviously they can't be hard to master, but it would add a certain interesting tension dynamic to the game.
-
Mmmm lingor is amazing. It makes me wanna trade the zombies for dinosaurs tho haha

While I think underground settlements are a really fun idea, I personally feel that zombies would become even less meaningful. In a zombie apocalypse, I can imagine safe zones would eventually have zombies trying to raid them, however an underground settlement seems a lot safer, and runs little to no risk of getting a zombie break in. I would personally like to see not only underground settlements, but also above ground ones, maybe even just in established buildings. Then you can build fences to keep out the zombies, but they're still breakable. I think above ground settlements should be available, made much easier to establish, but also run the risk of being more dangerous to snipers and zombies. What do you guys think? Should there be both above and underground safe settlements, or just underground

I think they'll be upgradable as long as you're willing to put rescources and work into them, however I don't think they'll get to umbrella high-tech level lol. I'm thinking moreso WWII bunkers

Character Customization: What Would You Like?
iashford replied to GlaciusTS's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm just saying what I'd like from character customisation. If its more in depth, I'd be happy, but I think these basic options are a good enough character creation. I also hope that, like arma3, you can take off your clothes to your underwear, and layer over the top of that. I hate games where you strip off all the armor/clothes to nothing and youre still wearing an outfit -
I'm not talking about WarZ. I'm thinking that the standalone was gonna be around 250 players, because a few moths ago when rocket said he ported dayZ over to the arma3 engine, he said it could easily support 200-250 players. I'm assuming that still stands? I understand that you have to find materials, I think that it's exciting, I guess my concern is just how many people are going to be bothered. While yeah, settlements will need maintaining, they have to be somewhat easy to establish, or at the very least, easy to establish when you have other team members. @Dankine I mean, my concern is if servers can only hold 250 people, theres not a lot of icentive to build settlements if said settlement is server bound, and you might have barely anyone to even start up a town with. @Bizmal I don't think you should lose your safe settlement, but I do think keys should be necessary to enter the entrance to the underground base. When someone dies, their key can be lootable, so the killer can try and find the settlement. I think a very rare grate/fence cutter should also be obtainable to gain access to other peoples entrances. Maybe different levels of security require different ways to break thru?
-
Okay, you guys have definitely put my concerns at ease now. I still wish we could have above ground settlements, but I definitely feel better about the underground ones. Kinda reminds me of fallout haha I guess what remains left to be seen is how well settlements are even going to go on servers that only hold 250 players.

I understand that, hence the subject at topic. I didn't just randomly make it up lol
