Community ratings / Rankings for servers to help identify dodgey servers
agippo posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
*edit, I just realised this is a long post, so if you cant read it all, my suggestion is to provide a community ranking / rating / review system for servers that can be seen by all players at the multiplayer login screenplayers to assist players to identify servers that have heaps of hackers, cheating admins, or are just generally rotten. Having a good server to play on is essential for the DayZ experience, and it seems enough admins abuse this privilege that this forum has an entire topic http://dayzmod.com/f...rver-reporting/ line devoted to reporting cheating/dodgy admins. I understand that more servers is better, but I have come across some admins that are clearly teleporting, spawning vehicles, kicking players for clan members and in extreme cases banning players for the crime of killing the admin in question. I admit it's nothing like as much of a problem as hacking, but hacking is just idiots cheating, where as admins cheating actually changes the whole field of play. To my mind, hackers are like your boxing opponent hitting you with a loaded glove (or a thermal scoped AS50 for a DayZ example). You almost expect cheating from players from time to time, because you know there are idiots out there. However admins cheating is to me, like the referee smacking you in the back of the head while you are concentrating on your boxing match, then the boxing commission fining you for headbutting the refs hand. I can live with cheaters, but its hard to live with cheaters who essentially represent DayZ. I understand that this game is so big they can no longer monitor all servers, so here is my suggestion: Institute the ability for players to “rate” or “review” servers they have been on. The ability to swiftly leave comments, or even a simple 5 star ranking system on each server would mean the community could police these things themselves, and it would free up resources at DayZ HQ. If in my login screen I could then get a meta ranking of this servers player comment, next to such details as Ping, server version etc. I would then have the ability to avoid servers with high reports of admin interference, or just high reports of hacking. I understand that there will be false reports, and even people claiming “hacking” or “admin cheating” when they are just useless and got themselves shot. Conversely, Admis may start a campaign for people to falsely rank their servers upwards. However this community ranking system would collect a lot of rankings, so overall the true nature of a server would show through. This sytem could even have a "minimum" overall rating, once a server got below that, then the DayZ crew could start looking through logs and issuing warnings. Ultimately I don’t care if admins want to cheat, or a server is overrun with hackers, I just want the ability to avoid these dodgey servers. -
Community ratings / Rankings for servers to help identify dodgey servers

Implementing my idea above on the alpha at this stage is useless. The hacker issue won't be fixed by this idea. Only the standalone with tighter restrictions and a system built around not allowing scripting will do that. However this idea is for the standalone, and I was making the assumption that in the standalone their would be 95% less hacking. If hacking was in the minoritythen you could have ratings on the server then these could be used to identify those that had suspect behaviour. Also hackers be hacking... The idea was more about allowing the publiic to identify shithouse admins who get a server and then think that allows them to break the rules at will. -
This must be the 20th self proclamed "best idea ever!!!! " I have read, but hats off for having the cheek to call for it to be made a sticky. Even if it was a cracking idea, Its not much use making anything a sticky, as clearly no-one reads them To quote the "please read BEFORE posting" thread (that is a sticky) As an above poster points out. The OP are not bad ideas, but there is a heap of information already released about clothing in the standalone game.

After being discouraged from playing DayZ on public serves due to hackers and some dubious clan admins, A few of us have moved to running our own private hive games. One question before we open the gates and invite people to join us, does anyone have any way of detecting players using map hacks? we have been monitoring logs for suspicious players that seem to have a superhuman ability to sniff our a heli crashes, but this is obviously time consuming, and also its not impossible to find heli crashes legitimatly. I am not posting this with any high hopes, but let me know if you have any methods to detect map hackers. Also on a side note, wow is DayZ different without every second player sporting full kit and a thermal AS50, and every tenth player teleporting everywhere. Couldn't be happier with the decision to go private!

M136 - Very Rare - Rocket Launcher
agippo replied to AllMightyKnox's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
they are rare die to the fact that hackers don't spawn then. the fact that they take up your entire backpack slot for a single shot means they are not useful at all. this just goes to show how common hackers have made some"very rare" weapons -
RE: Rocket announcement of new feature at PAX
agippo replied to doglover's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
you are so right! the game really needs weight benches and squat racks found in industrial areas..one thing I have always thought was lacking in zombie apocalypse games was the ability to smash out some reps. maybe dayz can be the first to fix this massive oversight. also for the serious competitor, I think steroids should be available. after all, the game is set in the eastern bloc -
Issue : People continually respawn to find themselves an optimal spawning point. This used to be done via the respawn button, however now that this has been removed, people are now turning to suicide to churn through the spawn points. Solution : If you die within 10 minutes of respawning, then you do not get a random respawn, you respawn at exactly the same spot, or to the nearest spawn point to that spot. This would mean players have to play the spot they spawn. Alllowing some degree of randomness inside of a limited area would also stop the unlikley, but thoretically possible chance that someone might be a total prick to a new spawn and continue to kill them, knowing they would be then forced to spawn in the same spot. Alternativlly, you could institute a system where a PvP kill allowed for a full random respawn, but a death by falling, zombie etc, inside of the 10 minutes sent you back to your original spawn.

Respawn in the same spot if you die within 10 minutes
agippo replied to agippo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
dont worry. I actually thought of the issue of spawn killers while I was halfway through posting the idea, hence the add on at the end -
Quick Idea to reduce death by server hoppers
agippo replied to amishterminator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I dunno about a phisical indicator, I would prefer thinsg stayed as realsitic as possible, however I agree totally with the aim of this post, to allow players in the game some protection against people who spawn in next to them. I think another solution (that has been mentioned) would be to have new spawns pushed out so they could not spawn within 300 m of an existing player. That would give everyone a fair go, without "alerting" exisitn players that a new spawn had entered the game -
The Leading Causes of Death in DayZ and Other Interesting Facts
agippo replied to PorkNBeans (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Id say your calculations would hold up nicely. well done. Persoanlly I have been killed way more by falling, and zeds than PvP. However as i got more time on the game, I learned to navigate properly and the dangers of zombie knockdowns, so my percentage of deaths via stupidity (Zeds, falling, hunger / thirst) is way down now compared to PvP which is up. I think the stats are not that suprising when you consider that everyone starts out as a noob and get killed a few times before they learn that game, however not everyone continues to play once they are compitent and have learned to avoid these things. Another stat that shows this is that average life used to be 30 minutes or so, its now up over an hour. This would also indicate as people play more they avoid the stupid hazards and fall to PvP more than they used to -
This concept has been mentioned as in development for the standalone a few times in interviews with Rocket I have seen/read. He also spoke about needing splints and other specific medical supplies for some situations.

limiting the gamma to a more realistic range would be good. I refuse to believe full gamma could be used for daytime play on any monitor, no matter how old
-
I always thought the ability to shoot yourself would be a good addition to this game, but you are right. I can totally see the above situation happening. Anyway, the "respawn" button has be reinstated now for broken legs, and thats the only time I have been desperate to kill myself, and not able to easily.

I agree that most locked servers are "private hive". On private hives you get a whole new "character" in each individual server and so you would not be able to bring that back to the regular game. Its not obvious to most players which servers are private hive, so prehaps some clear identification of these in the menu would make this more obvious. However their are some admins that do lock up their public server. Its not hard to tell which these are, as they are sometimes locked (usually directly after a restart so that the clan can farm the heli crashes) and at other times they are not. Its cheating, but its fairly apparent that at the moment at least, there is little to no policing of the rules that admins are supposed to adhere to. Taking the OP point that you shouldnt be able to take gear from a locked server to a regular server, as its an unfair advantage. I would like to also suggest that you shouldn't be able to take gear from a server that allows 3rd person view to a server thats locked to first person only. 3rd person gives that advantage of looking round and over cover without exposing yourself. collecting good gear with that ability is way easire than playing in 1st person constantly.

The Best And Fastest Way To Refill A Helicopter
agippo replied to brentp (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
sorry, this isnt clear at all as you're using the 3rd person view and we are not getting the HUD of the person doing the filling. I assume what you are doing is: 1) Parking the heli as close as possible to the tank 2) getting on top of the tank with a jerry can 3) filling the empty jerry can 4) rotating to look at the heli without getting off the tank 5) You then have the option to fill up the heli? (this is where it would have been good to see your first person view) 6) I am assuming you are filling the heli from on top of the tank? 7) repeat from step 3 nice exploit find.. but bloody awful instructional video -
I knew the Lee Enfield was loud but this just takes the biscuit.
agippo replied to ocelot07's topic in New Player Discussion
The patch update for .4 or .5 mentioned something about zombies not hearing guns properly, maybe its not the guns getting louder, maybe its just the zombies are better at hearing in this update -
Mendo.. that soundsa bloody useful tool. I assume it logs that data so you dont have to sit watching it as you go? Any suggestions on where these can be found?

90% Bandits, 5% Hackers, 5% Survivors?
agippo replied to meat_helmet's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would say its 5-10% hackers, 30% shoot on sight murderers, 10% genuine non murdering players with the remaining 50% made up of people who will swing between not shooting you, and shooting you depending on factors like : what you are carrying, what they are carrying, where you are on the map, If they see you first, if you get them on voice chat etc. I think you just had a bad run. -
The AS50 TWS needs to be DB wiped or not able to be saved to hive.
agippo replied to KField86's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
There are sachel charges to be found in hackers tents. What a conundrum, can you morally use hackers gear to blow up hackers gear? -
You just swim across.. you dont lose your gear anymore
-
Skalinsky island often has a few, but if you want hackers camps, then you can't beat the far NW corner of the map. The whole north is sparsely populated and a haven for tent cities, However the sheer size of it and the distance from the spawn points means you may spend some time in your quest

Yeah, thats exactly what I thought. Our server admin is testing a bit of code he hopes will detect players that go directly from vehicle to vehicle (and heli crashes) and then alert us to these people. The aim there is to have something automated so that the admin doesnt have to know in advance where all the good stuff is to adminsitrate properly. Obviously the admins are players too, so a system where nobody has any increased knowedge of loot is what we are aiming for. If it works ill see if we can share it around for others to test
-
Persoanlly i can't trust a man who uses 3rd person view, so the footage above is questionable ;) . But at the same time, being followed around and killed isnt clear indication of hackers, its just an indication you ran into a few assholes.
