So you don't like BalotaField 4, don't like the spawn changes (that's the impression you're giving at least), don't want to risk being killed by someone up in the North with an M4 (if you aren't yet geared), don't want to just run around drinking soda and eating beans. I'm just not following what exactly it even is you're after here. What is it you want? **Edit: You want the loot to be spread out more which I agree with to an extent. However there is still a lot of content missing from the game, especially in the form of available weaponry. Until we see where these new additions will end up spawning, we cannot really gauge how the map will play out. Obviously for military grade loot (unless they add things such as wrecked Military vehicles, etc random mil-spawns) will be primarily located at the current gear hot-spots. They've already added more of them too, the new military bases, etc. Also spreading out the military loot won't change the fact that any military looting areas will be essentially kill or be killed. You are barking up the wrong tree in my opinion if you expect any kind of social interaction near any of those zones. The beautiful thing about sandbox games is that you can play them with any intention you want, within the confines of what is possible within the game's systems. So you make of it what you will.

psychological effects of banditry

No bullets at military bases
Knightmare (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I think we should wait and see what else gets released before trying to map out better ammo locations. We just don't know how common other weapons will be and in what areas. I know for me, I'd like to see civilian versions for most things in the game. Including like a "Hunters Vest" that's similar to the UK Assault / tact vest, etc. Stuff like helmets I understand being in Military zones, but I would (myself at least) love to see the dependance on military zones being somewhat reduced as more content is added. This is why I'm really hoping for the SKS to get added. I like the gun itself, the nature of that type of rifle and the hopeful disconnection from military spawns. I like my M4 but I hate being bound to Military spawns (Especially for attachment hunting). A powerful semi-auto rifle that fires 7.62 is totally up my alley. Guns that are made to fire 5.56 can shoot .223 (not the other way around AFAIK), so in reality it could very easily make sense to find .223 rounds in a civilian area to use in an M4. But I'd rather them add other options before scattering out 5.56/.223. Though it would be nice to find like a wrecked military vehicle somewhere on the road that has a chance of spawning 5.56 ammo, and other things similar to that example. -
Oh I am completely clear on this "whole thing". As in, it hasn't even been a week yet, no one has had accurate time to feel out / test these spawn changes. And no, by "test" I'm not referring to people killing themselves 60 times as they rub their prayer beads together hoping to spawn near Balota. These same-day posts are all knee jerk reactions. Let's actually try this shit before we lose our minds. In a perfect world, I'd rather see people spawn throughout the entire south and east coast - but perhaps Rocket wants to see what would happen if East becomes the universal starting point, making the loot heavy west the zone to traverse to. And goddamn I understand dying and being forced to spawn away from where you want to be sucks (perma-death and its evil ways right?) but stop dying so much. And I mean that in a general sense, not necessarily to the individual I'm quoting. The old spawn points were teaching people that the only places in DayZ that existed were Balota, Cherno and Elektro. Some of these players reported hearing legends about this place called the North, and North East. Obviously those must just be folk tales.

An Issue with the New Spawns AKA "The Kamyshovo Massacre"
Knightmare (DayZ) replied to wgaf's topic in General Discussion
Oh if that's the problem then the generic response of people quoting the Alpha Warning would suffice. -
Totally agree. We should spawn directly into Military Zones, of course only after being prompted by a box that allows us to pick which military zone specifically. I just want to find a clicky-clicky-bang-bang stick and use it to kill other players immediately upon spawning in. Sometimes looting is too tiresome, and sometimes there isn't even any loot there! I know everyone loves to throw around that Alpha word, but I'm really struggling to understand how anyone could think this game is anything other than Balota Field 4. It does make me laugh, these people who think this game is about survival. LOL! Can't wait for the introduction of perks, I'm definitely going to pick the "Fresh-Meat" perk: Detect recently spawned players with your psionic powers killing them instantly. ...but uh-yeah, ha ha ha that guy really is missing the point. These spawn points forcing us to navigate the expanse of the game world? Pfftt No Thanks! Rocket is completely forgetting that this is a... GAME GAY'MMM "An activity that involves using the least of a person's cognitive abilities in order to effortlessly miss the point entirely"

Spawn changes need to be changed
Knightmare (DayZ) replied to DeceasedPath's topic in General Discussion
I can't believe you guys don't get it. You might think I'm playing the wrong game, or that I don't understand what this game is trying to achieve, but let me just tell you something bub, I KNOW what this game is about. Rocket said DayZ was about my story, yeah - that's right, MY STORY!!! And MY STORY is a late 80s early 90s ACTION FLICK. Explosions, Girls in tight brightly colored Workout clothes, Guns, Cliche One-Liners and More Explosions. So YES I want INSTANT gratification. If you expect me to value my own life, and invest more than five minutes (not counting committing suicide until I spawn outside of Balota), to get my gear, you're just an evil person. I want to get my GEAR FAST so that when I die like the douche I am, I can get GEAR FAST again! -
I've heard stories that in games like BF4 you actually /start/ with weapons, is this true?

Good overwatch posistions around Balota?
Knightmare (DayZ) replied to PwnCaiks101's topic in General Discussion
The best would be not going to Balota in the first place. Just go further north there's plenty of military spawns your squad can frolic within. You aren't going to find many unfrequented areas that can actually overwatch the entire area in Balota. The North hills would probably be the best, or a bush near the tarmac itself. Still think you're asking for trouble. -
I get what you mean, but again, it is punishing a play style. If I want to play as the old-school bandit, which literally is robbing or killing you for your gear, I'd basically only be getting your ammo and beans (as per your exampled exception). As far as a vicious cycle produced by undesirable behavior - I completely agree. Especially the coast-hugging bandit-pros with their fresh spawn sniping skills. The mod had plenty of this too. But again most of this tends to be limited to the shore. The people who don't learn to leave the coast, become the monsters they themselves were killed by. And the process repeats, and repeats. I'll kill you for your gear, but what I enjoy more is hunting players who are hunting players.

The whole it is a game argument and be used in both ways here. You say game in respect to there being artificial penalties for certain types of behavior; where-as someone else could say it's a game so you have to expect there to be PvP since "it's just a game" and that you couldn't compare it to real life. Both positions have a point. And on top of that, who the hell even knows what would actually happen in this kind of a situation in real life anyways. Maximum Clusterfuck, Engage. I'm not one of those elite KoSers that gets geared by server hopping and runs down to Balota's airfield and busts their proverbial nuts as they shoot fresh spawns. But I am the kind of person who doesn't take kindly to unknown folks waltzing into the zone I'm looting. Especially up North (and considering I leave the coast as soon as I spawn too). I'll kill you just to kill the threat you pose. Friendly is the web the spider weaves. I try to avoid contact with strangers but sometimes it just isn't possible. I'm not a fan of the, as often coined, COD kiddie KoS mindset that has existed since the Mod, and primarily exists on the coastline. I think they are missing the point entirely. But it's just a game. But with that being said, I am adamantly opposed to artificial penalties or rewards for any type of play style of behavioral patterns. At least for the time being. How can we address the dynamics of the game when the game is so incomplete; No Zombies, Nothing to do, No threat to get gear, No challenge to survive. We have to wait and see how things pan out before trying to throw around punishments for play styles that aren't our own. Oh let me just write a screenplay then.. Bill: Damn I'm bored, lets go find random people to kill Karen: Oh Bill ya'ole Bastard you. BILL MURDERS hundreds of people as KAREN LAUGHS That was easy. In all seriousness now though, we can guess what would happen, including analyzing human behavior and comparing it to similar horrific situations but at the end of the day everything is speculation. I'm not defending the KoS COD Kiddie "HAHA killin' fresh spawns, because I'm bored" mindset, but we have to be very careful about how we throw around the idea of "reality" for a situation that has never taken place.
-
No. It goes against the core of the game to add artificial penalties to player killing. That said, keep in mind, if I want your helmet, I can't shoot you in the head - otherwise I'll be looting a ruined helmet. The current system for damaging items based on where you hit them is great, but what you're suggesting is overkill. My best advice is stay away from people with axes.

This community....(kos complaint)
Knightmare (DayZ) replied to BlessedSyn's topic in General Discussion
Well I agree, but you're talking about playing with friends / known associates. That kind of behavior ("bulletrape"), unless you're in a group specifically trying to help other survivors is to be expected. That isn't what I am referring to. I am more referring to random lone wolves coming together (such as what the original poster appears to me to be). And I still think a strong zombie presence would reduce (emphasis on reduce, as in, not eliminate) certain types of KoS behavior. But as I say, KoS will always happen. For me personally, I'll still be shooting folks. Why? Because of the same reasons you listed - I don't know you, or trust you. Because it's part of the game. But I don't go down to Balota with the intent of gunning down fresh spawns. But if you wander into me while I'm searching for some loot up north, you're going to get plugged. I know for me, when zombies become the threat they should be - I'll be waiting for those random strangers to come together, do the tough job of looting, I'll be outside of the city waiting for them to leave. Some old school banditry. But even with that said, I still would like to see strangers working together, just for sake of the spirit of the game. Whether I choose that play style myself is irrelevant, but I still would be happy to see it. -
This community....(kos complaint)
Knightmare (DayZ) replied to BlessedSyn's topic in General Discussion
As brought up in many threads regarding this topic, one of the largest issues currently is that the individual player is completely valueless to another player, save for being a possible threat. Why should people work together? There is no reason to. People get to choose whether or not they want to work with someone. But it should be a matter of need; there should be a compelling reason to need to work together. When Rocket adds his thousands of zombies, filling the many cities with hundreds-upon-hundreds, the dynamic of the game will change. If the zombies are made to be a proper threat, not the joke they were in the mod, then people may begin to value the company strangers. It's a selfish value (what can you do for me?) but nevertheless it would be a strong motivator. As in, I can't get that loot, because I need help. As it currently stands the game plays out like this: I got my gear, I've got a ton of supplies. There are no zombies; so what do I do now? And for a lot of people, the answer to that question is to kill people. This causes a chain that promotes playing defensively (aka KoS yourself or completely avoiding contact). As it currently stands, until there is at least an overwhelming zombie threat on the map, I don't think there is anything you can do about it. Save for heading up north. But if you're trying to survive and still meet strangers, well, expect to die. You can easily just go up North and live happily ever after; but it doesn't sound like that is what you are after. There will always be killing on sight, and bandits of course however. -
I just wish it would rain more! But I'm definitely open to more extreme weather.

Do guns jam? Or.. how did I die?
Knightmare (DayZ) replied to Dontstealmycheese's topic in General Discussion
But that's my point about you having desync'd. As in lets make a scenario up, something like this, etc etc: Player 1 Desyncs, he thinks he is over by the store - he isn't, he's still a block away near the alley. Player 1 continues into the store believing he is there. Player 2 comes up and sees Player 1 just standing by the alley, or moving around the alley. Player 2 hits Player 1 with an axe until Player 1 is killed. Player 1 syncs back up with the server and instantly dies, to what appears to be nothing. But who knows.. -

Knightmare (DayZ) replied to Dontstealmycheese's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like some kind of desync issue. Maybe you weren't where you thought, someone shot you, invisible (under the map zombie) you didn't know about (because of the desync etc), etc etc.. I don't know. -

Malicious greed-driven copy cat developers versus Someone who has been working on their dream of a zombie survival game which started as a mod, that we are supporting via our Alpha testing/purchase. It's not even 2014 yet, they took Christmas vacations. Relax. -

You're right, I apologize, let me just --erhm, yeah right here -- uhm, this'll do'it, I-uh, think--- BINGO, I just used my super administrative powers to ban him from DayZ for all eternity. Thank you for putting me back on course. You're the wind in my sails. It is okay you don't find even a remote hint of humor in it. I simply did. You know I tease rough. -

I have to say, something about you glitching your view through the wall to look inside, in the same video of you showing someone cheating/hacking just kind of tickles me. -
Since 'zombie' hordes are confirmed.. what would you consider a "horde"?
Knightmare (DayZ) replied to serenityrick's topic in General Discussion
Well lets put it like this... if it ISN'T something like 50-100 they won't be any real threat to a veteran survivor, or survivors. Same goes for the cities. If they don't have 100-200 zombies in the big cities, they won't be any real threat. -
Stop with the "This weapon doesnt belong" posts.
Knightmare (DayZ) replied to bassist05's topic in General Discussion
EAT MY Dual Wielded AS50s Jokes aside.. to me the issue isn't immersion or authenticity, it's game design decision. I'm not a member of the crowd of Elektro hill sniping .50 cal bandits clamoring for their beloved weapon of choice to be reinstated into the Standalone. I like variety, but also practicality. Pistols, Revolvers, Assault rifles, Hunting Rifles (and scopes like the current Long Range Scope), maybe a few civilian/law-enforcement/basic military sniper rifles, etc. But none of the over-the-top stuff like we saw in the mod. I would 100% selfishly love to see a 416 put into the game, but I can understand if it isn't. But I would hate to see weapons like the .50 cal anti-material rifles put in. -
I really would like to see beards and different kinds of facial hair added to character customization. It doesn't have to be crazy, like a wizard beard, but different facial hair options is pretty much standard character customization these days. And more customization is better than less, always.

Just wanted to take a stab at clarifying KOS misconceptions
Knightmare (DayZ) replied to fathairybeast's topic in General Discussion
Killing on Sight will always happen obviously, however I am adamantly opposed to any form of punishment or reward system for any particular play style. I'll neutralize anyone who I deem a threat. I try to avoid situations where I am not dictating the situation. But if I round a corner and someone is there, they'll eat lead. I don't take chances. I don't react well to being surprised. If I'm romping around the coast and I see someone, I'll just avoid them or move away. If I'm somewhere more risky, such as NW Airfield, the second I see anyone and if I'm in a position to engage them, I will. That said I would agree that the referenced "COD" mindset is very apparent, in similar fashion to what happened in the mod. However you also have to realize that this game is currently devoid of zombies. Rocket's talked about wanting hundreds of zombies crawling and groaning around cities, and that plus their new AI (which is still obviously WIP) will significantly change the dynamics of the game. The real issue is why should anyone /NOT/ kill on sight? Why should anyone want to work with a random stranger? The problem is that currently no one needs to. If you change the dynamics of the game from "Do I want to team up" to "I NEED to team up to get that loot", you add value to a players life. Albeit a selfish one of "what can you do for me", but that within itself is a strong motivator, if the person otherwise would be unable to secure the loot in question. Change WANT to NEED. In my opinion until Zombies are implemented as the lethal, roaming, and destructive force they need to be, we cannot address reducing Player versus Player activities. We just do not know how the game will play out. This brings another point. Leave the coast. Sure you're still likely to be killed on sight further up north, however you're significantly more likely to run into these undesirables on the coast. Balota, Cherno, Elektro.. all bad news. All in all.. No Zombies. Hopefully Rocket can live up to his goal of wanting tons of zombies, and making them an actual threat - unlike the mod in which they were mostly a joke or inconvenience.Easy to get Gear - which is greatly linked to the above.Anti-Server Hopping systems not currently functional/implementedAnti-Combat logging systems not currently functional/implemented Add those things together and you're left with the following situation: I'm geared. I'm well supplied. There's nothing I need, no zombies to kill. What do I do now? And for a lot of people that answer is to kill people on the coast.
