is there anything like this that would be a good idea? another mechanic to flesh out the game more atmospherically? -
SA - How about finding MP3 players you can load with music ?
lord3n replied to lord3n's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
of course, but i was thinking of something you can share with players, so maybe not an mp3 player, but tape recorder? just thinkng something audible. dunno, just exploring the idea is all. -
What if when you died, maybe from starving to death, maybe from a gun shot to the leg or another area that wasnt critical, what if you were offered (meaning not forced, but you can choose to) stay completely imobile where you lay dead (ish). and you could wait, for like an hour. you cant do anything, your character might just slightly move an arm. (in case someone did stumble by you, notice and want to help) what if they could heal you back to a very very feeble state, maybe some dropping unconcious. maybe it would take something like 3 x your full blood just to get you back to that feeble state. im just thinking of ways to introduce near death experiences into the game (if they arnt already) it wouldnt be an option you had to choose, but under SPECIAL circumstances, LIMITED circumstances, you had the OPTION to just sit and stare at your screen for some duration of time, go eat, shit, shower, whatever and come back to see if somone helped you. if you didnt want that option? no prob, hit the space bar and forgo you character aquired skill you learned along the way and spawn at the shore. it shouldnt be much different cause the odds of someone helping would be rare. BUT, but, someone could help. and that might make for a good DayZ story. i just think that if we found a good way to introduce near death experiences into the game, that might enhance the stories we might tell about our adventures. i thought of this after reading Deans interview with Wired: http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/08/ut_dayz/ so it might already be in development. but if not, i think it might be a good option to add. and like i said, for those that didnt like it? just dont accept it. progress to the your dead screen and spawn at the coast like normal. getting the waiting for help screen would be rare, and might be like a small present, just to be able to cling on for even just a little bit with the hope that someone will find and help. of course they can find you, steal whats left of your gear, and shoot you dead also. life happens. whatcha thinking? worth considering?

thats a good point, definitely would get abused.

I have no idea how professionals create their animations, so im out of my lane here, but .... in my opinion, and taking into consideration that the zeds are not even close to being done, i think that maybe some of the animations for attacks and feeding off a dead player are just a wee bit over exagerated? does anyone agree? I was thinking maybe if when they were creating the attacks for instance, they could have the actor actually struggle with another person, just for the sake of authenticity, then maybe the attack animations can seem a bit more natural? and for feeding from dead players, do the same thing with another person who is limp. maybe throw in a third person to pretend hes another zed feeding off the same body (for when multiple zeds are around the corpse) and have them lash out at each other for a second, like animals do over their pray. animations like trying to twist off arms? legs? basically just go through an entire dismantling of the body. without tools. how would they do it? animations for tearing open the stomach, throat. feeding on arms, legs.basically tearing apart a human by hand. there are going to be unique animations tied with that. animations for maybe throwing a dead players gear out of the way. im not saying they have to actually grab an arm, or throw a pack, but accurately recreating the motions for doing those things might turn out better if actually replicated. thoughts?

SA Thought - Zed feeding and attack animations

for medications that have addictive qualities im sure they arnt going to allow it. but i dont think numbing agents are as big a deal as your making it out to be. dentists use it like its going out of style. if there was a risk of negative effects when it comes to numbing effects, which as far as i know arnt addictive, arnt dangerous, etc, then i dont think medical professionals wouldnt be so liberal with it. a dentist will hit people up to 4 or more times if necessary for ONE tooth. if they dont get the right spot, they just try again. to me, that doesnt sound like something they would be doing if there was any risk of anything. thats why it would be great if anyone on here has experience and some actual first hand knowledge pertaining to this. right now, on both sides, its all speculation.i think your lumping a numbing agent (which works in a concentrated area of the body) with every other drug out there. i could be wrong (not being sarcastic) but i think there is a difference between them. -
SA Thought - Zed feeding and attack animations

you are assuming that the dev team would NOT seek prior proper legal/medical advice regarding this. i just dont think they are that stupid. i wasnt suggesting they find a doctor in an ad while browsing a "Juggs" magazine. I am also not certain that Morphine is used for temporary, minor numbing effects. I am interested in hearing a response from someone that works in the medical field however. or maybe some other ideas on how animations might be improved upon and made to be more authentic. -
SA Thought - Zed feeding and attack animations
lord3n replied to lord3n's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ya know, it may sound crazy, but .... when it comes to creating the animations for decaying zeds that have say a broken limb or broken arm (or part of body they cant use) under a doctors supervision (i dont see why this wouldnt be safe, but im no doctor) how about the actor numb his leg, or his arm, and perform the animations under those circumstances. maybe bring out some authenticity that just can be duplicated without actually losing feeling in that limb. one day numb his thigh, next day numb his calf. do walking and crawling both ways and see what comes of it. same for arms. crawling with an arm where you have use of your elbow will look different than with losing it at the shoulder. so recreating the situation under ideal circumstances seems like it would offer the best fruit from the tree so to speak. i know its an "out there" idea, but im just thinking of ways to get the little details done right is all. -
I think i heard somewhere that in developing countries where poverty is the norm, children were among the most dedicated to survive, taking greater risks to survive than their adult counterparts. working in large groups they sought protection in numbers, and if im not mistaken, i believe scientists thought that their behavior was instinctive, meaning deeply imbedded in the brain. maybe if there are children zeds in the game they might display some of these characteristics? maybe we could have 3 different variations of children? one 9yo, one 17yo and one 25yo? just to give the authentic impression of different sizes of kids around? i mean, SURELY there were children living in Chenaurus right? I dare them to make an infant child that doesnt even walk, and hide that bomb in a dark house where it can crawl up and infect a player, make it cry in a horrible way so it bellows off the buildings in the large apartment complex and nobody knows what unit its in, but it wont stop crying.

thinking of other forms of ommunication players can use if they have no radio. maybe we could type simple notes and leave them attatched ? maybe some towns have an area where players can leave these notes? like a community area where they are all posted that players can request help, set traps, trade items, etc? kind of like when a real disaster happens, people post photos up and information in one dedicated area? maybe cherno? as a form of communication anyone can use? writing materials would include chalk, coal, pencils, etc? can find paper or toilet paper to write on and post? morse code, maybe at the radio tower, and possibly a few few select other places have morse code equipment setup for players to broadcast to anyone with a radio? i was thinking about this due to all the other things dayz kind of teaches you, like reading stars, navigating with map and compass etc, if players chose to, they can learn morse and broadcast it, which might encurage other players to try and decript a signal they hear being broadcast. spray paint, was thinking maybe players could write a message anywhere (limited due to amount of paint in a can) but a few words or some symbol or anything they can accomplish with their mouse, kinda like and old windows paint program. they have to be close to an object to paint it, limited paint. this way player groups can mark their territory, other players can learn the groups on their server and maybe introduce a little "tagging" in the game. players can also write things for help, arrows to a direction, mark trees, etc. whatever they can write or draw with their mouse. thoughts?
-
yes i agree, the same thoughts were forming in my head after i re read it. not sure how that would work. maybe he can make them midgets? lol.

SA Idea - leaving notes? morse code? spray paint?

whelp, that pretty much guarantees we dont get that in game then. the child has just been born, couldnt wait till the umbillical cord got cut before you smash it with a sledge hammer? :-) -
id like them to add them, but if your country doesnt accept them, then your version just wont include them. either way if you arnt allowed to see them, then you wont see them. but id rather not let the weakest link in the governmental chain dictate what everyone else gets or doesnt get. by those rules, the way things are going, your typical first person shooter will consist of blowing bubbles at enemy players, encasing them in a bubble, floating them up and away, only to pop and have said enemy feather float down to a nice soft cloud where even they scored points (cause everyone needs to win) and later a download content where super secret squirrels can pillow fight.i mean no harm and not trying to insult, i hear you, it sucks, but not pushing back against this lunacy of no violence anywhere and we are all shiny happy people is a joke (i know its not your fault) but our "leaders" are just out of control with all this garbage. so please dont take my post as an attack, it is not, in any way. its aimed at the people creating the rules they are forcing you guys to live with.

when it comes to wounds, from things like gun shots, piercings (knife) or anything that could poke a hole in you and force you into bleeding... what if the more damage you took from the injury, the faster you lost health. im not suggesting its a significant difference in pace, but something balanced and believable. also, maybe if really bad wounds took more than just one bandage to fix. set it so if its a very bad wound, one bandage will do a lot to slow the blood from leaking, but you would need one more to completely stop it. regular wounds would require just 1 like normal. have some kind of indicator to let you know how fast your losing blood or something to tip you off that your in serious shape and medical attention cannot wait. anyone build off this? too complex? anybody think it might make people think twice about getting in a gun fight? cut down on the aggression between players? i dunno. looking for thoughts from others.

just out of curiosity, and in regards to making characters themselves more valuable, so if you die, you lose your "perks". well, in regards to medicine, what if they put medical manuals, each with a different procedure, like how to fix a sucking chest wound, out in the world that you can find, and learn. so you would still need to find the items to perform the procedure, but you would gain that "perk" on how to fix that, either for yourself, or another player. if you die, you lose all knowledge. get shot in the chest? nobody around with experience? make your peace. regular cuts, minor bleeding etc would be something even new players can fix, no other knowledge necessary. you could put these "manuals" out there for fixing cars, helos, planes, generators, etc. create the knowledge is power situation, and if you die, you lose all your knowledge, maybe that would force people to think more before running and gunning. thoughts ?

i agree that rags, shirts, etc should be more available than medical equipment. maybe you can cut up a shirt into like 5-6 rags to be used for bandages. BUT BUT BUT, what about making sure shirt is cleaned in water or something or you run a risk (maybe a high risk) of getting an infection from it in say, a few game days? you could enter pots r something larger than a tin can and boil the rags or clothes to be used medically.actal medical equipment should be rare, and the cool shit should be super rare. so if you find some quick clot, it feels very valuable. no risk of infection, and stops a few bandages worth of bleeding (if you needed a few bandages for a big wound)
-
i believe that any wound which punctured you and would have a cavity, like a gunshot might produce, would have to be packed with gauze and then wrapped. quick clot which some people might have heard of is something i believe might be cool to have in game and could stop bleeding much better than a regular bandage.maybe a wound which needed two bandages to stop, might only need one quick clot bandage. but id make them rare to find. in real life i think first responders would pack the wound (stuff as much gauze as you can into the hole or cavity) so that you are putting pressure right up against the source of the bleeding, and once the wound is packed, wrap it up so the packing stays put. if you get hit in an area like an artery, you run the risk of bleeding out in a matter of minutes, from my understanding at least. obviously depending on where you get hit, the bleeding coud be a lot harder to stop. and getting hit in the chest where you might puncture a lung s gonna be a bigger issue, and would require more knowledge on treatment, cause you arnt going to pack that wound, you need to seal it. but you would need to find a way to release the carbon dioxide that would build up inside the lung. im sure someone more experienced than me can fill in the gaps, but i believe thats the gist of it. antibiotics i think would be just to prevent or stop an infection, i think. but i believe your immediate concern is to stop blood loss. getting hit in an artery might need a tourniquet, or likely would need one as the blood flow is a bit more aggressive. but you have only hours i think before the limb would need to be amputated if you have on a tourniquet. and in real life, your wound might take 2 or more tourniquets, like in the thigh where there is a lot of meat there, and needs to be really really tightened to close up the artery in the middle of all that muscle. someone please correct any inaccuracies you may find in my post, as there might be a few.

Why People Shoot On Sight And How To Fix That
lord3n replied to carbine781 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
maybe the longer you survive the longer he can go without food? water? runs faster? and all that goes away if you die. i suppose there is something to think about with that system, for sure. i agree it might be a hard pill to swallow, but i think thats what we should be looking at, in real life, death def a hard pill to swallow, and if it creates the atmosphere where people feel getting into a gun fight might be to risky, i think it might help out. i think the pvp is not necessarily something you want to curb so to speak, but something you want the potential attacker to spend a little more time thinking about before he decides. which might scale back the shoot anyone you see mentality ive seen. i say playtest it and see if it works, your life in the game should be the most valuable thing you have, and all the items in the game just support the extension of your life. so adding unique traits or qualities that you either pick, or you wind up developing through doing certain things, sounds cool. what if fixing weapons, nvgs, tools etc got better through actually doing that and you get good, if your a bandit, would you put yourself at the same risk you would right now in the mod? -
Why People Shoot On Sight And How To Fix That
lord3n replied to carbine781 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
how do we solve situations where groups simply loot their dead, and then pick up their freshly spawned friend and return all his gear from his previous life? if possible, how about they apply a serial number to all the equipment items. guns and so on. NOT food, tin cans, poopy paper etc. just the guns, vests, packs, etc. this way, that character is not allowed to pick up that same weapon for some duration of time, like say a week or a month, in case at some point later on he happens to find the same weapon in a loot pile he can take it then. this would stop teams from taking out all the "awww shit" out of dying. i know that they can just trade weapons, so fine, but if he dies with that gun, he cant come back and use either then. until the duration of time runs out. or maybe the item just doesnt show up for that player to see, and nobody is allowed to put it in his inventory. this way if the items did spawn back in game, and that player just so happens to be in the same exact location, he wouldnt even know it was there to grab again, until the duration of time expires where he can use it again. maybe this mechanic works only for players who shoot first. in other words, im thinking that if being injured was actually a real shitty situation in the game, made you feel like it was somethng you just did NOT want to deal with it, people might not be so quick to just gun battle. im not saying these are good ideas, just trying to stir your imaginations and maybe we can come up with somethng that works. maybe if hurt real bad, you keep falling over and have to manually get up. you have enough time to get away and heal, but falling down, losing contiousness, blurry vision, faster drain on water due to your body being put under an extreme injury. i dont know. how do you make it so people really really dont want to risk getting shot, even if your a bandit. but without enhancing damage (which should have its own mechanic) maybe just enhacing the current system? just tweaking it a bit? i think making sure players cant just come back and pick up where they left off is a good start, and might help a bit, when the aggressors have as much to lose as the victims. dead means dead, and gone. -
i like the idea of the instant death. head, heart or central nervous system. in real life you are toast (except for some extremely unlikely scenarios) if they wanted to go deep with it, even making a chest seal for punctures to your chest. give the player the same effect as when they are drowning with everything getting hazy. unless you have a chest seal or suran wrap, plastic bag etc. to combine with a bandage or something.

this a dumb idea? for SA - recharge batteries, solar panel?
lord3n posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
i have no idea how batteries are going to be handled in the SA, but what if there were a location on the map where players could recharge their dead batts? like a solar panel? and players would have to find a battery charging unit for the batts to connect to the fixed solar panel somewhere on the map? which seems like it would be an active area, lots of regular traffic. maybe a social area? swap meet location as well? depending on how players used it, for good or bad. can anyone build a good idea off this? -
i think we should approach things like the politicians do, we stop using the buzzword "children" and just catagorize them all as zombies, which are not children, adults, etc. they are horrible creatures, monsters, spawns of hell. :-)

this a dumb idea? for SA - recharge batteries, solar panel?
lord3n replied to lord3n's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
is it to crazy of me to think that maybe we could have car batteries in the game that can also be used to light up say, a house? a group can light up a section of a military base or airport. batteries would need constant recharging, but would last a bit. maybe it has a certain number of uses before its worn out and worthless? i might be going on a limb with this one, i dunno. -

also, anyone know if they have talked about adding batteries to the vehicles as another part to be not only aquired, but charged?
