    Disconnecting to avoid death

In that situation, you would be better off hopping onto a nearly empty server (which would probably be night time) just so you could get away without putting your friends at risk. As Max also said, a stable Internet connection shouldn't be too much to ask for, as long as the server connection itself is stable enough. I know I've said this a few times before as well, but in any other MMO with PVP mechanics, there are mechanics in place where if you lose connection through no fault of your own, your character is still stuck in the world and vulnerable to be attacked. It's a little harsh, and yes people will inadvertently die. But the rest of the community shouldn't be punished just because a small percent have unstable connections. If any of these suggestions are ever implemented, it will have to be a risk you take or don't play. There wouldn't be any intermediate ground or special circumstances, because if there were they would still be open for abuse & exploitation.

    Disconnecting to avoid death

I think Max's idea would work great, even to prevent teleporting behind other players because of the login freeze animation. However I still think that additionally, you should be locked out of any server you disconnect from for X amount of minutes to further mitigate, at least 15? Just because even with a login freeze, you could still teleport behind a player in a location (inside a tree or bush for example) that's hidden enough that they couldn't see you while you were stuck in the login freeze animation.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

As to the people saying the easiest way to combat the DCers and ghosted is to change position, that's true enough sometimes, but you don't always know when someone quits. Some servers have kill messages and join/quit messages disabled. It's incredibly problematic.

Just logged into a server that was in the process of getting nuked I think (US 46.) Saw a wall of flame heading my way through the trees. Disconnected before it reached me (does this make me an exploiter too? :) ) Took a screenshot of the lobby with the wall of flame still in the background. http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/540679788057567305/612F0E57BD55958CBDA62120D6DCC204FB3433FD/

Any kind of team/global/side chat is disabled in most servers, because that's the intent of rocket. Just because everyone is a survivor doesn't mean you're on the same 'team.' Once they implement a method of forming groups / squads, I imagine the group chat thing would work in that case.

Bear traps are fine, but as I've said before, we should be able to disarm them without any tools, either manually when you walk up to it, or with an objects such as trash, wood, etc.

Hunger and thirst aren't supposed to drop when offline, if that's what you're referring to. If not, then maybe you should have been specific.
  8. I've had 0 issues with the latest beta as well.

    n-sec 'logout-timer' + n-sec 'login-freeze'

I agree with the OP. I think performing the generic 'doing something' animation could be used during this time, to simulate having to pack/unpack your sleeping bag/bedroll. During logout, the timer and animation could be cancelled by movement or firing, in case you need to defend yourself (like with the bandaging animation.) However, the login animation could NOT be cancelled, to help prevent server hopping. You don't like it, don't logout in town. Also, as I suggested in the other thread started by rocket on this exploit, how do you feel about game servers automatically giving players a temporary ban when you disconnect, to prevent the server hopping / ghosting. Could even be up to an hour long (and the long time for this would also help to prevent ghosting to kill other players.)

    Disconnecting to avoid death

Maybe, but that method doesn't stop the people that quickly D/C immediately after getting killed, (so fast that the master server doesn't log their death,) and then reconnect in order to try and kill you. Had it happen to me several times, and they can just keep doing it over and over and over again if they want. I also feel that an hour is fair for the reason that if someone comes across a group that is guarding a location, such as a campsite, it's reasonable to assume that thê may be there for a longer duration, and being able to wait out a few minutes on a shorter cooldown timer would still allow the server ghosting. Only real downside about my method I think is if you were to legitimately lose your connection. But in this case, it's likely either a bad server for you to be playing on in the first place, or your Internet sucks.

Yeah' date=' sorta like Fallout 3... [/quote'] In reality I believe most animal traps have a catch on the side you can just click to disarm. So in this case you shouldn't actually NEED anything to disarm one, as long as you see it in time.

    Disconnecting to avoid death

This would prevent teleporting but not server hopping for loot. If you add a n-second freeze on connect' date=' you get the best of both worlds. [/quote'] Yeah, I think something like a 15 second timer where your character is basically 'waking up' upon login. If it could be done where logging off has you 'making your bedroll' where it puts you in the 'doing something' animation for that period of time (which you can cancel if you move or fire), the same mechanic and animation could be applied when logging in, except you cannot cancel it by moving. Have some kind of sound effect going in both states such as the sound of someone rolling up or unrolling a sleeping bag so if someone is nearby it gives you a warning that someone is logging in or out. Couple this with a temp-ban from servers you quit from, it would likely solve almost all of the complaints. And before anyone says 'well what if I login inside a building and someone is there' then that's your own fault. It's already incredibly stupid and risky logging into ANY building even without any kind of protection mechanic. I've already killed quite a few people who were stupid enough to log in right in front of me when I was searching a building.

    Disconnecting to avoid death

I'd say 30 seconds. 10 seconds is still short enough to possibly escape and just server ghost to a new position. Possibly even prevent you from joining a new server for up to 5 minutes. How about if they could implement a system that would just auto-ban you from any server you quit from for an hour or so? If would completely prevent server ghosting to kill others, and if you’re just trying to find a server that’s playable, it won’t affect you, and it would also help you by keeping you from joining a server you’ve already checked. In a server but need to take a short break, and still want to play on the same server? Just quit to the lobby and come back in once you’re ready to go again. A system like this could be setup to only ban you once you fully quit from the server. This solution seems to me to be the best: 30 second timer coupled with being temp-banned automatically for 1 hour from any server you quit from.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

I've noticed that the peripheral dots show up through buildings and terrain quite often. I also noticed a long long time ago just playing around in the SP Armory that the giant hangars at the airfields don't block LOS as far as AI is concerned. They also don't stop bullets. Hopefully the dots being visible through objects is fixed in a beta update, because IIRC it's tied to the AI's vision. If you see their dot through the wall, they can see you too.

    Disconnecting to avoid death

It's this kind of crap that really pisses me off. I'm fortunate enough to not have had it happen to me as far as enemies server ghosting, but I have had people do the quick D/C after I kill them and respawn in right near where I killed them. Oh, and I don't think there's anything against posting someone's name that does it.

    Rescue NPCs

I like this idea, was thinking of something very similar myself. I think 1/10 would be too many though, should be a lot more rare. Maybe the rare chance to find them hiding in a building, and then you can help them escape for a chance at some loot or ammo, and a little bump to your karma. Or as a bandit, you could rob or kill them for a lesser chance at something, with a negative impact to karma. I think the idea would work well once they get around to implementing random world events.
