Why bandits ruin this game...
tced replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bandits don't ruin the game... hackers do. Bandits are part of the games design & I enjoy shooting them right in the face.. I mean right in their silly stupid faces, I almost laugh out of my chair when I kill.. sorry got a bit off topic there. Seriously, Bandits are a great part of the game, you should be angry with the ones who are destroying the game & that is hackers. -
Know before you buy, read the forums well my friend, know before hand what to expect as a server Admin, read the post by other Admins, the challenges of renting/owning/admin a DayZ server. Not trying to pee on your parade, just being honest with you.... read, read, read.
-
I said in my OP that there is Admin abuse out there, but think about what you posted... "the Admin locks the server so he can farm"... for what, the server is locked, you can't take vehicles to other servers... what good would it do you lock a server just so you can waist time farming loot when your the only person on the server??? Not to mentioned that your lumping all Admins into one pile... as hackers themselves, which again is not the case. My point in locked or pass-wording is to allow players to go through a screening process via the Admin/renter's web site or forums. This by itself would cut down on hackers in general as most of them wouldn't join the group to begin with. And again it would allow for better detection on the server if you knew, to some degree, who the players are on your server. They would be able to read your forums & follow specific guidelines such as the one I posted in the OP about not firing should something like a teleport hack happened. Players who want nothing to do with hacking/hackers would fill those servers 10 times faster than those open to possible attack at any moment. I'm not talking about creating a server that ppl can't join, anyone can still join, but they would need to go through joining a specific community & become part of that community & following the rules laid out on that server, such as what to do should a hacker get in & hack the server. It would also help reduce combat surfing from players outside of said community. Once again, we need to widen our focus here & look at this with bigger eyes, hackers do not care about the success of the mod, the servers, the communities & especially the hassles we Admins have to go through, they only care about themselves. I want the mod to be successful now... not later on & these request are not so far over the line, they are needed imo.

I have to agree with the OP... there seems to have been a very limited view of exactly how this would all play out, when those rules by DayZ were written... they definately need to be redone, because at the moment, the rules all favore the hackers & hamstring the Admins to who manage their servers. As a server Admin myself, I'm currently discussing with my community about letting our server go... which has only be up for a few weeks... due to the constant hacks almost on a daily basis. Clearly when those rules where first written, they didn't forsee the problems of Admins having to deal with this on there own, as there is very little help from BIS/BatEye at this time.
-
@SleepyRhino.. yea, your right, some ppl will take advantage of the locked server for their own use, but weight the two & see which is more acceptable... unlocked - hackers teleporting players, mass kill scripts, jet/chopper hacks, ect.. vs locked - some loot gets farmed... Again, there is no perfect solution, no choice that eliminates all, but there are exceptable options to help to reduce that which cost more & more players.

Not sure I've ever read on the DayZ forums any info on this, usually sites have a specific section on their forums for community/clan news, recruitment threads, advertisment for upcoming events, ect... so if anyone has some info, please post & thanks.

Computer won't run anywhere near full load
tced replied to chengysogood's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
so... you getting 70 or 80 fps, except when your near the biggest server loads possible & then it only goest down to 30 fps?? Please post back when you have a real problem... dude those are good numbers for A2, count yourself amoung the blessed & move on. A2 is one of the most single spec hogs ever created, so trust me... your ok! -
I wouldn't have a problem with pswd servers as this the single best protection against hackers... until they get the pswd that is. As the lead Admin for two different communities & perhaps that sways my perspective, but it seems that if you were to lock a server for a specific community, then ask ppl who want to play on your server to join your community, you would then do a better job of screening out hackers. Now a hacker could join your community for sure, but if you've every been part of a gaming community, you know it's much easier to find hackers as ppl on the server will have a better chance of communication, see the person who has godmode or other things, see who it was that killed loads of ppl after a teleport hack, ect.. Plus, hackers don't usually join groups/communities like this as they don't like following rules to begin with. Other games, such as BF3 for instance, allow servers to be maintained by the server renter/owner, they are allowed to kick/ban at their discretion because who else is going to do it. They allow them to make room for clan/community members again at their discretion. Again, I place no load of blame on DayZ for hackers, this is a BIS/BatEye issue & they are the ones that need to address it, but DayZ can give server admins & players a better solution to addressing some of these problems by adjusting their rules. Rules must be adjusted at times to fit the current problems.

Advanced hatchet techniques against armed opponents
tced replied to gammofly's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
^^ clearly the second poster didn't get the joke... very funny btw -
I dont blame Rocket or the DayZ devs in any way... this is a BIS issue guys. Until DayZ, there was no other mod or Arma series game that used a database to track players, DayZ is the first, hence the more attraction to the hackers as now ppl have more invested in playing & thus get more angry & frustrated when hacked, but my post was not to bash on DayZ. Perhaps getting the text that shows who killed who would at least give us a name, but make no mistake this is a BIS issue for sure.
-
Just now, our server (US 362) was hit with a kill script... everyone on the server was killed. It's been less than 45mins sense last teleport hack. Can DayZ please turn on the who killed who message again, so at least we can see who or possible some how find who is doing this stuff??
-
I have to agree with the OP, it's very frustrating & hard to keep our community intersted in the mod when they get on & are hacked almost ever hour. Our server is maintained by donations from our community members & no one will donate toward a server they cannot or don't want to play due to the constant hacking/teleporting/ect.... Over the last few days we've gone from having about 12 to 15 dedicated players to about 5... the others are getting tired of being teleported or otherwise hacked & are playing other games. This has nothing at all to do with the DayZ mod being in alpha, I totally understand that & so does my community, but if the DayZ devs can't get BIS to step up detection & protection, then all this is kinda pointless because the hacking is only growing by the hour & will evenually cost more & more players.
-
Our server has been hit with the mass teleport several times in the last few days, but not sure which server files I need to look for or the info it in the log that I need to look for, to find out who these ppl are to ban them, any help would be greatly appreciated.
-
Does DayZ currently have any Admin tools, such as an Rcon type software or some other type of program that allows us Admins to manage, ban, ect... on the servers we are working with in real time? It is very frustrating when hackers have almost free rain on the server & I have basically very little at my disposal to use, so any info would be helpful, thanks.

So, how long does server maintenance last?
tced replied to tfninja's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
you can still join a server to play by using the Remote button at the bottom of the server browser, here is how to do it (click images to enlage) First, find a server you want to join by using the link below... http://www.gametracker.com/search/arma2/?query=DayZ Click on the server & find the server address or IP & the port... Now go to the multiplayer browser & click the Remote button at the bottom... Type in the servers IP address & port & hit OK... Now the server shows up in browser list to join... -
I never locked the server, I ony hit restart & went back on... all the players at the NW Airbase were gone, so I figured it worked as it was only a few seconds between the initial teleport of all players to when I hit the restart, not sure if this is the best way to address this type of issue, but it was the first thing I thought to do. I cannot get back on atm as there seems to be maintiance going on, yet I see players on, so I guess we'll have to wait...
-
No need to search for my name my friend, I was the Admin on US 362 when the teleport hack occured, I quickly restated the server in hopes to keep most ppl alive & remove the huge crowed of players that was teleported to the NW Airbase. I wasn't able to identify the hacker at this time, but will ask my lead server Admin to look into this imediately. There was also no locking of the server... all servers are down atm.

yeap, all servers down atm...

New player with a couple of questions
tced replied to SindreAsus (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
ppl kiling you.... find a good community to join, then your with other players who can help you, have your friend join as well finding your spawn location... click the image below, arrow shows the name of the nearest town, on this image the nearst town is "Kamenka" note: you can disconnect to the lobby (lobby is where you see the list of player names) & rejoin to show your location, repeat if needed to catch the text as it types across the screen. hooking up with friends... use a third part map in your browser, if you have a 2nd monitor you can display the map on it or simply alt/tab out of the game to check the map & find you way, below is a great map that shows loot, vehciles, water sources, ect... http://dayzdb.com/map -
It's real simple to fix this, obviously there is a hit indicater built into the game & mod, otherwise you & the database woudn't know when you've been shot, all they have to do is make is so if a player is shot... not fallen down or broken a leg from a tree or some other stupid thing, but actualy shot or attacked by another player with a hatchet, that is obviously detected by the game/mod/database... once that is detected & it's usualy instantly for the person getting shot & the person doing the shooting, simply keep that players body ingame for like 5 mins... should they DC, weather their dead or not. The whole beef about DC'ing is because the person doing the shooting wants to loot the body & can't, so all they have to do is make sure the person's body remains, should they get shot... then all other types of DC'ing that have been mentioned are not effected, even if they are to some degree, anyone who DC in an open field or building deserves what they get, will be a good leason for them to learn you don't leave with your character in a vunerable position... get to a tree line & hide! before you DC.

Not really a suggestion for the mod, but there is no other place that I could find to post suggestions about the site itself. There was an RSS feed for the old forums & was wondering if you guys can put one up for the new ones, site looks awesome btw.... Thanks
