    Idea: Player earned abilities.

All I want is to find a solution to add quality to life in this game that's not directly tied to ones gear. A reason to survive situations where they are going to lose everything (being robbed for instance). I don't want skill trees or stat points. Just something that players earn after surviving for hours in game. If someone was stranded on an island and managed to survive the first week, you can gaurentee they had to learn some new skills to do so. I invite anyone who doesn't agree with what I'm saying to try and provide another idea that might bring quality of life to players.

    Idea: Player earned abilities.

Just to show you how poor your argument is that this is a real life/survival simulator and nothing should exist inside the game that isn't "realistic", I will list the unrealistic things in this game. *Zombies *Respawning *Third person *Being able to run nonstop *Logging in and out of worlds *A dot in the middle of your vision (retical) *Your vision goes black and white when injured *Only taking one dose of antibiotics can heal you of sickness *You never have to sleep *Your facial hair never grows *You do not gain or lose weight So, stop acting like the game is 100% realistic when it's not. And thank god it's not, because a real life simulator would suck. They add features such as respawn, permanent running, and third person to add enjoyment into the game. I would argue that one of the most unrealistic parts of DayZ right now is there is no quality of life. No reason for you to care if you died other than the gear you have on your body. This brings us back to the original question. If you don't like the idea of gaining personal traits as you continue to survive (not stat points) then what could be added to the game to make players want to avoid death. This applies particularly to a situation where a player is getting robbed. What could be implemented to make him want to survive that type of situation?

What could we implement that would give the player value besides his gear?

    Idea: Player earned abilities.

This actually isn't true, as you would require food and drink which forces you to move about. Also, I'm talking about surviving for 12 in game hours before seeing any of these take effect. Does anyone have any other ideas that would make a player care about not dying while being robbed? Right now, there is just no reason not to care if you get shot in the face. I'd like to have something motivate me to stay alive. Also combat logging is a huge problem right now with this because you can just log out no problem.
  5. For those of you familiar with the game RUST you already know what I'm talking about. For those who are not, the basic idea is that every now and then a random airdrop will occur. A large cargo style airplane flies over the map and drops a package with a parachute attached to it which allows it to gently float to the ground. Here's how I think it would work. *An airdrop could occur anywhere and anytime. If the package is not collected by the time the server restarts it is wiped. *Package contents may sometimes include items that can ONLY be found in airdrops. Think NVGs, particular weapons, etc. *If a player has a radio in their inventory or if the player is within 50m of the Green Mountain Radio tower then they will recieve a message stating the coordinates of the soon to be airdrop. *When the package lands a red smoke flare is activated and can be seen from a distance.

    Idea: Random Air Drops

I don't think RUST is the first game to ever implement an airdrop. Also, there are ways to impliment things from other games in a professional manner. Whether that means asking permission or what not. Take the Payday 2 masks that are in the game. I do like your idea of mixing this mechanic with heli crashes.
  7. I logged into a building, couldn't see a thing. Tried to up the gamma and brightness, it changed a little, but not near as much as it used to it seems. I really like this, and hope they have reduced how much you can alter the settings.

    render distance

Pretty sure you have to edit that in your .config file. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1t31tb/all_useful_config_tweaks_for_fps_and_playability/

    Pending Update Rev. 0.29.113822

Speak for yourself. When I was 11 years old I held a 9v battery to my tongue for just a moment. Two weeks later I discovered a tiny, fluid filled bubble on the underside of my tongue where it attaches to the bottom jaw. Turns out it was a clogged saliva gland as a result of licking the battery. Later it became infected and I had to have a sizable chunk of my tongue/jaw removed. None of this is true of course. Except for the part where I was 11 years old. That totally happened.
  10. http://grab.by/sXUG With patch number 2 on its way, what features are you hoping to see? I personally would love to see some combat logging, and server hopping solutions added.
  11. Just wondering if anyone knows if suppressors are functional yet. I found one in game for my M4 and it doesn't change the sound of firing at all. However, that doesn't mean it may be somewhat suppressed to anyone in the vicinity. I'm just not sure if that's the case or not. Does anyone have any experience with this in game? I've had a suppressor on my real life AR and while it doesn't "silent" the gun the way you see in films, it defintiely has a dramatic impact on cutting down in overal noise.
  12. Ha! I was actually hoping for LESS gun spawns. I really hope guns become very rare. Right now you can almost always find one in any military area.
  13. I didn't realize this until last night, but you start out starving and dehydrated. I thought eating 25% food and drinking 33% water was good enough, but it's definitely not. I found by eating 1 or 2 cans of food and drinking as much water as possible until it starts to say I'm full is the way to go. After I do this I can go 45min to an hour without seeing messages.
  14. People with this type of attitude should have the game unistalled from their computer. The whole purpose of the alpha is to find bugs, issues, and point out features that may be needed or removed. The purpose of this thread is to discuss issues with server hopping, because it is an issue. Most everyone here is actually trying to help the development of the game, but people like you throw a wrench in that process. If you don't like someone's suggestion please supply us with reasons for that, otherwise don't waste our time.
  15. Yeah, 30 seconds is nowhere near long enough. It needs to be 5/10/ or 15 minutes. It will not prevent server hopping, but will definitely discourage it. If you can only enter 4 servers in one hour because you have to wait 15 mintues, that would dramatically cut down on how much hopping occurs. Also, this time limit would prevent "ghosting", or in other words people logging out in a firefight, jumping into another server to change positions, then logging back into the original server to get an advantage in the firefight.

    Are suppressors functional yet?

    The condition is "pristine".

    Are suppressors functional yet?

I thought the same thing when I first shot it with it attached, however I then removed it and noticed that it was in fact not changing the noise level for me at all. Now that you mention it though, I don't think zombies were aggro-ing.

    Are suppressors functional yet?

Roger that good sir. Hopefully it becomes more than cosmetic in the future. Although i'm sure it's not high on the priority list.
  19. This is a very short sighted response. ^^^ There are plenty of ways to discourage server hopping, even across a connected hive. If you joing Server A, then Server A becomes your "home" server. If you decide to leave that server and jump into another server, you are penalized with a 5/10 minute cool down period before you can enter into "Server B". Once you enter Server B, it becomes your new home server. If you exit server B, only to re-enter it 10 seconds later, you will not have to wait, as it is your home server. This is just one way to discourage, not prevent, server hopping across a hive.
  20. The community has been begging for this game to be released. Stating that they didn't care what shape it was in, how broken or messed up it was, they just wanted something, anything to do with the SA. Here we are just two days after release and just about the only things I'm seeing are ungrateful people with entitlement problems. It's almost as if people were force fed software that they had no choice but to buy. Software that has been repeatedly labeled as "early", "unfinished", "alpha", "buggy", etc, and now they are upset that it is in fact all of these things. After all of this, less than 48 hours later we recieve a sizable patch that addresses areas of concern, yet the voice of the community is still filled with anger, rage, and frustration. I'm not going to tell you how to act or that your opinion doesn't matter, but I for one am humbled that I finally am playing DayZ Standalone. A game I've waited a very long time to play. The experience actually has exceeded my expectations based on developer feedback prior to launch. I'm excited for the future of the product because I know how dedicated they are to it. I think it's great when people report problems and issues. Explaining it in a detailed, helpful manner. There are plenty of things that need to be adjusted, and it's great to see the first patch out already. I know that the developers have been working very hard on this product. I hope they are proud of what they have built so far. I hope their hard work pays off on both a personal and financial level because I really think they have earned it.
  21. Yes, this certainly isn't helpful either. We all know there are lots of bugs and issues. They should be reported, so they can be brought to the attention of the developers and get fixed. What shouldn't happen, are people raging about these problems. That doesn't do any good, and just causes a cluster of people trying to yell louder than each other. Just the same, people acting like it's perfect and that every bug report is just another "crying 12/yo" is also far from helpful.

    Hacker was mad.

Yes, I was killed. I exited and immediatly logged back in and I was magically resurrected where I was killed, and I still had all of my gear. I believe it's an issue with the latest patch update.
  23. Seems like my guy is complaining less and less about food and drink as more time passes. Is this a feature that has ever been discussed? I would love it if players gained some small health buffs such as improved stamina and lowered need for food and water if they are able to survive for certain amounts of time.
  24. You are actually getting a discount in the long run, as once you purchase the game you will always be getting the latest build, even when the game is complete and doubles in price. Having people pay money to opt in for alpha testing is also another way to weed out people who will not be helpful. People who complain about everything, and just get in the way. There is absolutely nothing to be upset about companies who allow players to pay an introductory price to access software that is being developed.

Everyone playing the game needs to report issues, that's what an alpha is for. Stop acting like reporting problems is against some sort of policy.
