Yeah same here. My friends and I will all log into different servers and scour the countryside from the NW Airfield all the way to the south coast and we have found nothing yet.

Are they just SUPER rare? Do they always spawn on server restart, or is there a chance they will not spawn at all? Can anyone post a screenshot or video of a crash site from 0.47?

How can we make a players life more important than his gear?
knawx posted a topic in General Discussion
I think it would be great if there was something implemented into the game that made us care about the life of our character even more than the top tiered items. What has got me thinking about this is a situation I was in on the second day of playing. I had some good gear including an M4. I was excited about my gear and feeling good. Then I was caught looting a building by a group of three people. I didn't want to lose my gear and knew I didn't stand a chance agains all 3. I also hate combat loggers so I faced the inevitiable. They hand cuffed me and began taking my loot, demanding I put everything on the ground. This is when it hit me. After losing my gear, I couldn't care less if they shot me dead. I was going to have to start over anyway. As it sits now, your worth is tied to your gear, and has nothing to do with how long you have survived. What can be done to make players not only find worth in their gear, but also their lives? Suggestions: *New survival traits learned over time. Example: Players who have ran around for a long time begin to see an increase in stamina. (The idea of traits/abilites being aquired has not set well with most of the community) *Facial hair. Something as simple as a beautiful beard acting as an indicator or trophy of how long you have survived in the harsh world. This alone could be enough for some people to live. *Humanity system where dying brings consequenses. Would love to hear anyone elses thoughts on this matter!- 223 replies

People have been saying that the community is going to lose interest in the game since last year. It's been proven that this is not the case. Nobody is going to walk away from DayZ. Sure people might take a break and wait for more content, but the slow development cycle is not going to stop people from buying the game. On top of this, the developers have been very smart to outline their plans, and make it abundantly clear that the current state of the game is nothing more than a foundation to build on and that improvements will slowly come as 2014 unfolds.

People play games because they are fun, not because they are realistic. Games should NEVER sacrifice fun for the sake of realism. That being said, people really enjoy building a home to call their own. Something away from the already established cities. It also gives people a sense of ownership in the game which increases playability exponentially.

People don't understand what the term "unplayable" means.

I think the map is too small for cars. Am I the only one

I just want vehicles to be rare. Perhaps only have a handful of large vehicles mixed in with a more genereous amount of small transport vehicles such as bikes, electric scooters, etc. -
What if you could find a functional camera in DayZ. A DSLR that you could actually take pictures with in game. The camera would be fully functional and you would be able to adjust things like iso, aperture, and shutter speed. The camera would consist of four parts. A body, lens, sd card, and battery. All of these would have to be combined to make it work. Perhaps there could even be multiple lenses in the world to find. 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 200mm etc. The photos would be viewable through the inventory system. Right click on camera to see the option "view photos". This would bring the photos up full screen for you to flip through. From here you could select photos to "save". These would be saved to your computer like a screenshot. Think about killing someone and discovering they had a camera, you could then flip through all of their photos. I believe this would add a pretty awesome feature to DayZ that could be enjoyed by the players. Thoughts?

I thought of this as well, but I really like the idea of being able to control the depth of field and other controls as well that a Dslr would provide. A way to print them and leave them in the world would be awesome though.

Interesting ideas. I like the camera flash idea. As to the concern about the load that the images might have on the server, perhaps you could make so each memory card could only hold a certain number of photos to keep the quantity down.

Yeah I think it would be pretty incredible to find a camera on a body and look at the photos that they had taken.

I can only imagine the community would snap some amazing shots.

That's the whole point. You should never be able to log out of DayZ unless you are in an area where you feel completely safe. What sucks 10x worse than a log out timer are people who combat log.

How can we make a players life more important than his gear?
knawx replied to knawx's topic in General Discussion
This will never change. People are going to kill you because you have gear, or just for fun. The topic of the discussion is how can we add value to the players life beyond his gear so that you will want to stay alive in the event other players steal your things, but choose not to kill you. (Most likely for humanity reasons in the future) -

You're missing the point. Everyone cares about their character until they are stripped of all their gear. Then you are back to square one, you are no different than a new spawn even though you may have just survived for days before you were robbed of your things. The value of your character should be deeper than just your gear. What are some suggestions you may have that would meet this goal? -
I really want to see some civillian style weapons. Some .22 calibur guns would be great.

I really like the book idea. Any skills learned from reading books should be lost upon death. -

That's the point. It would become like a trophy. A long time survivor doesn't get to this point without being smart, cunning, and a little lucky. He would do what he could to protect this beard. In the even he was outnumbered and surrounded by 2 or 3 players, he may be willing to cooperate with their demands because he doesn't want to lose this status of "badass with a beard". The reason the players don't just kill him would have to have something to do with the eventual humanity system in the future. This of course is just one simple idea of how to bring value to a players life beyond his gear. I am wanting to hear other's ideas so keep them coming! -

Sometimes small things like this become a trophy or visual representation of your hard work. It may not be enough for everyone to care more about staying alive, but I think it would for some. When a humanity system is implemented you may see a lot less KOS. Especially from heroes. They may just rob you and leave you alone. You might say that robbing someone is not very heroic, but in a world like DayZ, even heroes need to survive, and robbing someone is much better than killing them. (Speaking for heroes of course) -
Idea: A group of lootable items are added into the game. *Large battery *Electrical wires *Generator *Radio equipment *Microphone These items are quite rare, but they are all required to "fix" and opperate the radio tower at Green Mountain. Once these items have been crafted and placed inside a control room, the players can then call for a supply drop. They are then given the coordinates of where this suppy drop will occure. Within in 20 minutes a cargo plane flies over the respective area of the map dropping a single crate containing higher teir loot. Why I think this would be awesome. *Would promote teamwork in order to aquire all the parts neccessary since they would be very difficult to obtain by yourself. *Creates a player driven objective that has a high difficulty with a high risk ward factor. *Other players, if in the right area, would see the cargo plane dropping its payload and would create some fun, and intense moments as the crate parachuted to the ground.

I like your idea of more zombie dense areas. In terms of learning the map and having knowledge and experience, the problem with this, is that you can learn everything there is to know about the game in just a few days of playing. Not to mention spending a little time on the wiki and you could learn everything there is to know without ever playing the game. This does not add importance of life to the player. A reason to live. I'm looking for ideas that would give players a reason to live beyond their gear. -

This is a great question, I didn't even think about the Female models. -
Call in a supply drop from Green Mountain Radio.

People seem to have a misconception that DayZ is a 100% real life simulator. If that were true we'd be able to leave Chernarus no problem, but then we hit these invisible walls which I'm sure do not exist in real life. *Also you can go third person *You can sprint accross miles of land without stopping *You never have to sleep *No bathroom breaks *Eating can be heard from 50m away *Taking your shoes off do make footsteps quieter. *Zombies This list goes on and on. So lets drop the whole "DayZ is a 100% real life sim" argument. It's not, and there are plenty of non-real life mechanics in the game that are there to make the game fun and engaging. If we are playing in a world filled with Zombies, then I don't think an airdrop is out of the realm of "realistic". -
My thoughts: If you survive for certain amounts of time your character begins to learn helpful abilities. Survival: *food and water intake is more efficiant *can sprint longer before getting winded Medical: *better blood transfusion results *rags can be used as bandages (new players would no longer start with this ability) Combat: *melee weapons hit harder *gun can be steadied more efficiantly *learn to upgrade weapon attachments Just some examples of how I think it would work. The reason why I think this would be great is because there is an issue with taking people hostage because the worth of your character is solely based on the gear you have. So, if it all gets stolen it's pretty much the same as being killed. However, if you still had some character traits that you earned while playing, it may motivate people to cooperate in these situations, because even if they lose their gear, they still have something to live for. Thoughts?
