A friend gave me a long range scope but it is badly damaged. I can see through it just fine (unlike the damaged PU scopes) but does the poor condition make it less accurate?

Right now, loot only respawns when the the server restarts but it won't always be this way. They are working on it and it will get better.

So do people at your house tease you about your teamspeak dialogues?
worst2first replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
One of my friends was wounded and another one told him, "Crouch down over there and I'll put it in you" referring to a saline bag. That would have been awkward for someone to overhear. -
What would you do? My small encounter.
worst2first replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
You did what anyone would have done. In fact, you gave him more of a chance than a lot of players would. He made the decision to pull a weapon and in so doing determined that he would die. -
I've only killed one player so far as I would rather avoid them than take unnecessary chances. A friend and I were scavenging one of the large cities, I believe it may have been Berezino. He was armed with a Magnum while all I had was an ax. We weren't being as careful as we should but we weren't mindlessly running around either. Someone begins taking shots at us. We took cover and tried to identify the shooter but they must have fired and displaced (smart). We decide that discretion is the better part of valor and attempt to exfiltrate the area. As we reach a small field on the outskirts of the city a single shot rings out. I glance over my shoulder to see my friend sprawled across the ground. We were running evasively so this person was a skilled marksman. I glanced back at my friends body, tempted by the thought of his Magnum but there was no cover. I had very few supplies so I decided to circle around some buildings and stealthily search another section of the city (not my best idea). I thought for sure that I had put enough distance between myself and the shooter and that they probably would spend some time looting my friend's body. I entered a building and ascended the stairs desperately looking for supplies when I glance through a window and notice a woman with a Mosin crossing the street towards the building I've entered. My heart begins to pound. Oh shit, she's followed me. I crouch around a corner at the top of the stairs with my hands clenched tightly around my ax. Sweat beads upon my forehead as I try to control my breathing and concentrate. I hear footsteps on the stairs. As she emerges on to the second floor, I desperately hack at her with my ax. She tries to swing her Mosin towards me and a shot rings out but misses. Blood begins to spout from her body in numerous locations and she slumps down the stairs. I breathe a sigh of relief, surprised and thankful to be alive. My momentary reprieve is shattered when she begins to move again. I spring down the stairs and cave in her skull with my ax. My hands are shaking. Blood, bits of bone and brain matter drip from my ax and hands. My clothes are spattered with her blood but I am alive. I examine her belongings and find my friend's Magnum. As I carefully exit the building with my would-be assassin's rifle in my hands, I wonder why it had to be this way. My friend and I aren't bandits, we would have traded with her or helped her. In a moment, these thoughts pass - I have no time to indulge in philosophy. I have to focus and concentrate and survive. She made her choice and sealed her fate when she climbed those stairs. Such is life in Chernarus now.

What was your most annoying death by another player
worst2first replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I was scavenging the shipwreck at Rify by myself and was very nervous but excited that I had found a Magnum, assault vest and some ammo. I kept thinking someone would appear and take me out at any second. While surveying the forward hold, I clipped through the walkway and fell to my death. -
Great Expectations? (All about wheels)
worst2first replied to DeatHTaX's topic in General Discussion
I don't want to see helicopters at all. The chances that any given group of survivors have the skills, equipment necessary to repair and maintain one and aviation fuel to supply it would be very low. -
Great Expectations? (All about wheels)
worst2first replied to DeatHTaX's topic in General Discussion
That's why we need a farming system and stills. With some modifications a lot of engines can run on ethanol. We also need horses and carts which would have been common in some of the more rural areas of Chernarus. -
You should be able to cut eye holes in the burlap sacks.

Rocket answers to everyone who complains about 3D view

I wonder how many of the 1st person fanatics have an Occulus Rift or multiple monitors? Neither 1st or 3rd person are entirely realistic. Let people play the way they want to play. -
Rewarding players for actually staying alive and surviving.
worst2first replied to Slyguy65's topic in General Discussion
As a beardo in real life, I endorse the addition of beards to the game. Ideally you could shave them as well but that may be asking too much. Perhaps bandits would start robbing and force shaving people like that Amish cult was doing. -
There's no reason to go to the NWAF or the north anymore (here's why)
worst2first replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I agree. I have no issue with there being more military loot at the bases, but there should be random military loot all over the map. I'd like to stumble across wiped out patrols and broken down military vehicles (including helicopters) in random areas. I think some of you are missing the point of the game. Once you're geared up you don't have to go hunting you can...wait for it...continue exploring and surviving. You can also join a clan and help other players or take your chances and try to help people you meet (just be very careful and smart about how you do this). If you think KOS and "bambi hunting" are the only things to do once you gear up, you're part of the problem. I get more satisfaction out of finding gear one of my friends needs and giving it to them, healing injured friends or providing over watch while they loot than I do from killing a defenseless new spawn. You also might try using your imagination and setting a goal for yourself. On one spawn my goal was to make it to Lopatino "where I was from" to see if any of my family had survived. -
The loot system is definitely a work in progress and needs to be balanced. I think one of the problems is that melee weapons other than the fireman's ax are absolutely terrible against infected. At the same time, the PVP melee combat seems overpowered. Perhaps melee weapons should be more effective against infected and less effective against players. Only in absolute desperation do I ever carry a melee weapon besides the fireman's ax because they're generally worthless. If I have an effective melee weapon I don't actually need a firearm as I can usually avoid other players if I'm careful. When it comes to firearms, I look forward to a larger variety of weapons. Some of the civilian weapons should be superior to some of the military weapons, just as they are in real life. The M-16 I was issued at Ft. Benning was in pretty rough shape. Don't get me wrong, it did the job but most people I know that own firearms keep them in much better shape than the one I was issued. This problem is even more pronounced in second and third world forces. I'd rather have a pristine Winchester 30-30 than a ratty M4 with a shot out barrel.

Quick Question about DayZ's Character System.
worst2first replied to Konahri's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm not sure if it would be technically possible, but perhaps if the game didn't allow you to spawn in within a set distance of another character some of the server hopper ambushes would be less likely. It wouldn't eliminate the problem completely but at least the scumbags wouldn't spawn in the room behind you. Another possibility might be preventing players from spawning inside buildings at all as this seems to be what the most egregious of the spawn bandits like to do. I prefer having one character per hardcore or regular hive as opposed to individual characters on each server. Dealing with server hoppers is going to be tough without seriously inconveniencing the entire player base. -
If we're going for full realism, then why not just make it so that when you die, the game uninstalls and you can never play it again? See how preposterous the "realism" argument is? Besides, humans aren't nocturnal and if it was as dark outside as it is in game, you wouldn't be wandering the countryside thanks to your gamma exploit. You'd be sleeping or at least hunkered down somewhere until it was light enough to see.

If this was a conscious decision by rocket, it was a bad one.

I play both elLoCo. I'd guess that I spend about 70% of the time in first person. I know there seems to be a big divide in the community over 1st vs 3rd but I don't have a dog in that fight. If Rocket removes 3rd, it will be fine with me but if servers allow it I don't mind using it (mainly when running cross country to navigate - I suck at 3rd person combat).

Worst Mistake I've made...

Next time, remove the magazine and give him the empty pistol. Then place the magazine and ammo farther away and leave the area. It sucks that he was a scumbag though. -
Anyone know the difference between hardcore and regular servers?
worst2first replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Bragging about your prowess at a computer game is a sure sign of tiny balls. However, if it makes you feel better about yourself, then carry on by all means. -
I'm the same way. Even if it means getting killed occasionally, at least I died with some of my humanity in tact. I'd rather die like a man than live like a beast slaughtering everything I can.
-
The group dynamic is interesting. I play with a group of guys and we are still working out how we're going to operate. I'm the tactical, sneak and peak, don't kill unless you have to guy. I'll help someone if I think I can do so safely but there are a couple of guys who I suspect may have a different opinion on how to play the game. I also have an (over)active imagination and really get into games. Sure, I know it's a game and all that will happen is that the player I just killed will respawn somewhere, but where's the fun in that? It's much more intense if you mentally put yourself into the situation and I'd like to think I'd preserve some semblance of humanity even if it meant I didn't survive.

The first time I was killed it was while looting the second floor of a building. I turned around to see someone in a gas mask standing there with an ax. I'm still haunted by that death. A few days later someone with a Mosin shot my friend. I ran into a house and crouched around the corner with nothing but a splitting ax. Sure enough, the bandit followed me but I surprised her and hacked her to death. I took her Mosin and got my friends Magnum back for him.
-
I think it's only frowned upon if you are doing it to intentionally exploit the game like hopping from server to server to server at a good loot point just looking for easy pickings with no challenge.

this is getting a bit more frustrating then fun.

Weird things that happened...

Your story reminds me of playing GTA San Andreas and looking for Bigfoot on Mt. Chilliad at night. It didn't matter that it was a myth, the fact that something MIGHT be there was enough. I wish this game had a little more of that feeling. (Perhaps it will in time.)
