That's a little...odd. Thanks for letting me know though. I've seen very few MP parts in my 60 hours or so of playing.

Constant PVP ruins the fun of this game
worst2first replied to wuffi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
There are lots of ways to avoid the KOS idiots at the coast. Here are a few: join a clan / go inland (seriously, I've haven't seen anyone in almost two weeks where I roam even on full servers) / avoid military bases and known server hopper hangouts (the timer helps with ghosting but these places will always attract both hoppers and non-hoppers) / play on low pop servers. There's a lot of freedom in this game and with a little effort you can find a way to play the way you want to. There's even a light role playing server if that's what you like. Finally, no matter what anyone on either side of the KOS / PvP argument says there is no wrong or right way to play this game. Dean has given us a sandbox. Use it as you will. -
Maybe I'm a shitty shot but I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at 400 plus meters with the M4. This was with all pristine parts and an ACOG. At 200-300 meters it was very accurate though. I haven't had time to try out the SKS yet but I think it may be my go to weapon. A Mosin with a LRS is of limited use to me as I don't snipe unwary players (although it's great for scouting) and I try to avoid CQB so the M4 isn't great for me either. I think the SKS may be a good compromise of power and range that will fit my play style.

The entire Into the Wild soundtrack but especially these two songs. (I roam the north and west and rarely see anyone unless I'm meeting one of my friends somewhere.)
-
That would be great and so would being able to use spray paint to paint messages on walls, signs and roads. Until we get loot respawn implemented though everything will disappear every time the server restarts.
-
Has anyone confirmed that it will accept the PU scope?
-
i was wondering why he would put a scope on a Canadian beer.

Ammo containers seem particularly likely to disappear. I lost one today. (Not that I needed 300 rounds of 5.56 but my friends will be disappointed that I can't be their ammo mule any more.)

Its just anoying!SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THAT !

Perhaps you should try a new server? I am not suggesting you server hop, but if you're playing on a 40/40 server and everyone's at or near the coast you are going to have a much more difficult time than if you find one with 20 or 30 players. -
I found one in one of the red brick buildings with the arched entryway. I found two boxes of ammo in military spawn locations.
-
Both. We need lots and lots of Russian and Eastern European weapons. Western weapons should be very rare (left by UN forces perhaps).

#1 Imagine, servers that cost $500 a month.

I've seen lot on the ground (concrete pad actually) outside of train stations.

Is the OP the first anti-care bear care bear? The only thing I can figure is that he is some kind of Ayn Rand devotee who operates under the false assumption that every human action is motivated solely by self-interest. Are there lots of assholes that think and operate that way? Absolutely (the OP seems to be a prime example). However, there are many others that feel a deep sense of collective responsibility and try to selflessly help others to the best of their ability because they sincerely believe it is the right thing to do. Some of those may be acting because of an anticipated reward (heaven, karma, esteem of others) but many neither seek or expect anything for their helpful actions.

Light RP, Community Growth, Private Server Discussion

I play with a small group but I am interested in this. I like the ideas of personal back stories and motivation driving individual character actions but I also like the idea of factions forming and fighting for control of Chernarus. (Not that there's any reason you can't have both.) -
Read first before you complain about other players

Who's crying? Adults use words to rationally construct arguments. Now go sit in the time out chair and think about what you've done. When you can use big boy words you can rejoin the adult conversation. -

The examples you provided were a tiny percentage of the individuals involved. They make good media stories though. Edit: Your examples also fail to mention that people organized themselves. They didn't sit on a hill with a sniper rifle shooting everyone that passed by. -

This is just another pointless post by an arrogant KOS player that presumes to know exactly what would and wouldn't happen if a zombie apocalypse occurred. Try studying history. Human civilization has collapsed time and time again and humans have always rebuilt, albeit slowly. Not once did everyone immediately start randomly murdering each other. If you choose to play like a cawadoody kiddie, that's your choice, but spare us the ridiculous rationalization. -
There's a mass grave at the train station NW of Lopatino too. Whoever is responsible did a poor job of burying these people. They must have been in a big hurry. The bodies by the wrecked bus are a mass grave too by the way. They may have used the bus to transport the victims there before executing them or to haul the bodies in from somewhere else.

There are some really good ideas in this thread (improvised items for example) and some terrible ones (mascot suits, miniguns). Someone mentioned spears. I'd like to see improvised spears made with a bayonet and a tree branch. I'd also like to see improvised explosives. There's a quarry on the map so there should be explosives of some kind. I'm not sure how that would work because it would probably need buildings that could be damaged or destroyed and I'm not sure the engine is capable of that. I wouldn't mind a few mortars either. Once the game is fully developed they would be useful for raiding bases and towns. Mortars are a staple with most armies because they are very cheap compared to something like a minigun. Miniguns aren't realistic for a setting like Chernarus. Now if you want to talk about crew served MGs then that's a different story as there probably would be a few of those in some of the military bases.

Unless you're a sadist or masochist, playing by yourself isn't much fun for long. The sadists go on murder sprees and that is certainly one option. If you can't beat them. join them. Your other two options are to find some friends to play with or quit playing. That's really what it comes down to.

How I have stayed alive for 6 weeks on a single character
worst2first replied to knar33's topic in General Discussion
There's only one solution - extreme hardcore mode. You get one life. When you die the game uninstalls and you can never play it again. There's your "realism". -
Unless you're a sadist or a masochist, playing Day Z solo isn't much fun for very long. Find a group (in game or out of game) and the experience completely changes. I play with a good group of guys and we stay busy helping each other when we inevitably respawn and scouting the map to learn it and plan where we want to establish bases when that ability is implemented and we have our own server. I've done the lone wolf thing but it gets old very quickly. Some people (the sadists) go to the coast and start murdering everything that moves. Some find a group and some quit playing the game. Those are really the only options right now.

Did the events referenced in Arma II take place or is this a completely different timeline? I tend to think they did because of the presence of berets and Western military gear. There are also numerous mass graves around the map if you look closely. I doubt the infection is a result of Chernarus military or scientific experimentation as it's doubtful Chernarus had the resources to devote to expensive research that would be of no practical use to a former Soviet republic.

As others have alluded to, it really depends on your play style. The best solution is to have one player with an M4 and one with a Mosin. The player with the M4 can loot while the player with the Mosin provides overwatch. I'm really looking forward to the SKS because it should fill a multipurpose role somewhere between the M4 and Mosin.
