only in this game will r-tards bring up FOV to jusity laziness. Every single FPS has this basic FOV (usually fixed, unlike arma). The ALT key is used to look around FYI (more control than any other shooter). ARMA has the BEST 1st person view in the genre, it's the #1 reason I (& many others) play the game. The reason? when ALL players are using 1st person (as designed) the game is immersive, dev balanced and forces one to make combat judgements and learn small arms tactics. 3DP must be limited to RUNNING ONLY or simply removed. Maybe bohemia are still looking at console release? *jokes*

Hi All, I feel that a LOT of gameplay is dependant on how the audio integration performs in dayz. - Self footfall sounds are FAR too loud, they should inherently duck at least 40db unto any visually focused or close passing object. The sounds themselves cut way too much and have inherent floor noise. - OPFOR running footfall SFX should be able to be heard CLEARLY @ 50M, rolling in @ 100M. - OPFOR walking footfall SFX should be able to be heard CLEARLY @ 20M, rolling in @ 50M. - OPFOR footfall sounds from behind should have increased gain for stereo players. - People are divided on the Zed sounds, I've read too many complaints regarding placement. As some of you may be aware, gaming audio has regressed and simplified (not in terms of fidelity) to the point where only simple gain data is applied to a speaker level. I would like to write / lament about A3D and aureal semiconducters' demise, however that wont bring it back to life. I understand the ARMA engine can process 128 different positional sounds, and the 3D sound is nice albiet the xact positional limitations. However, these are glaring problems that need to be addressed and are can be immediately fixed by changing basic gain structure and replacing a good deal of SFX. Unpacking sounds as I write this...

This is the MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE regarding DayZ, without peer. If the SA doesn't remove the 3DP exploit, forget about anyone but casual/console/popamole faggots playing it. Then, when said casuals are tired of camping/peeking, they will move on to another 3rd person shitfest. Better nip this one in the budding stage and remove the pop-a-mole gameplay, that belongs on consoles.

+1 - everything you've said here is correct. I'll also add that when in medium to close combat, 3rd person ruins the game. It becomes a 3rd person shooter, where you just strafe building corners & shoot off the hip. In 1st person you have to make a solid decision regarding movement direction, in 3rd person it becomes a counterstrike-like LOS battle, idiotically strafing left and right around cover. It seems most players that populate DayZ are used to 3dp 'pop-a-mole' games. It's all to do with FEAR, most DayZ players are scared little boys - this game is supposed to be unaccessible, REMOVE POPAMOLE! = REMOVE 3RD PERSON!

I have an end-game mission idea. At some point after acquiring end-game rifle, backpack and nav, an NPC girl (or boyfriend) starts tagging along with you. The trick is, they are wheezy asthmatics and required low-spawn ventalin every few days. An incentive for keeping them alive (no slots like dog) would be new weps, cars etc... NPC drops hints of wep, car location every time ventalin relief is given. Also, girl/boyfriend can be stolen away by any player holding 2x ventalin (giving one to NPC). -
meh, nice.. but usually don't bother with nubs like this... no sport in it.

CryTek already has a 'serious games' division called Realtime Immersive (youtube it), they produce a milsim which beat Bohemia out for a $57M US military contract last year. The engine is a closed license, handles everything (including datum) better than VBS4, so if someone was looking to compete with DayZ, this is the engine to do it on. However I don't think anyone bar miltary and resource sector has used the thing. It also has the best video editor around. And yeah it already handles the Rigs of Rods plugin someone mentioned earlier. I thought WarZ would have used it, but they are dumb as fuck.

yup, mario brother also doesn't allow you to turn off the music, it's called BALLS, the developer (nintendo) has plenty, like Rockstar. They are dictative developers and the players respect that. I'm gonna stop posting now, as now I'm looking like a complete dick & that's not the point (that's what she said)

no, the real reason is that 3dp users are playing a completely different game than 1st person users, one cannot mix the two, they are genres' not just viewpoints. Seriously I would be happy if 3dp was limited to running, as the ONLY legit reason for it is motion sickness.

Don't take my ledge camping away OMG, what will I doo??? So many SCARED ppl here. Everytime I log on a 3rd person server, motherfuckers just camping elecktro roofs, fucking lame. Remove 3rd person, the game is 10x better in this mode. Bohemia don't have the balls to make this decision for you, they need the money too much. Don't compare 'em to Rockstar.

I'm pretty sure Rocket said he didn't want to make "accessible" games. Not only is 3dp the most accessible option one could offer in a hardcore milsim, it's also the games' (dayz) biggest exploit: another thing Rocket claims to actively dislike.

Bohemia is too wishy washy to actually dictate one or the other, they need to grow a pair. That being said 3rd person is for WoW or GW2, not a FPS milsim. I'm sick of seeing videos with 3rd person noobs playing, thinking they're hot shit - these people PvP all day long, but too scared to join a 1st person server like a real man. If they can fix the zeds in the SA, then they can fix ALL the 1st person issues. Or (as I've said before) only enable 3rd person while sprinting. No more ledge camping 3rd person twitch.tv jerkoffs pls. Bohemia's gotta roll in like a boss & just bitchslap it's users, they'll fall in line. You notice the reality of this when seeing how end users treat Bohemia (e.g. DayZ Bounty Mod) - poorly.

One, they should be using Realtime Immersives' Crytek Milsim engine, but duuh they already have VBS4 which is almost as good. Two, The Australian Goverment doesn't give out $2Million grants to vaporware, Notch is wrong and overly skeptical. -

really, Bohemia needs to take a more dictative approach with their end user, having both options is a little passive (from the company that creates military i.e. 1st person) simulations. An option would be to only allow 3rd person while running, this would eliminate peeking and close engagements would mimmick reality. Perhaps with the addition of secondary 'peeking' functions (e.g. climbing wall & peeking) which mimmick the reality of reaction times and exposure. Do Nintendo allow you the end user to disable music? no, they take a dictative approach, and the end user respects that. But then how will you keep the WoW kiddies playing? -
I'll second that. There's a few servers here in AUS. One is almost full 24/7 & has haxors 24/7 (invisi-shot within 30 seconds of spawn, every time I log on. about 30 times now) the other server usually has <10 people, no hackers at all, good interaction, no alt-F4's lamers either. I hope someone makes an even smaller 'city' type map with more vehicle spawns and wep spawns & enterable skyscraper.
