I think an ARMA 3 + ORift + VOmni would be viable later down the track, as it would achieve solid 60fps required for the Oculus and afford BI the time to port DayZ to a DX11 engine.

nah, we don't need noobs hacking these guns in anymore. Nor could most players use any of these weapons over 800 meters if wind was a factor.

I think Crytek already use the RoR plugin in their own private milsim for the US military. hopefully they make a retail version like BiS.

the solution is simple. create 2 official hives, one called a NEWBIE hive 3DP:ON & a REGULAR hive with 3DP:OFF I'm sure that'll create enough butthurt, that some people will 'forget' they had "motion sickness" and switch. -

50 cals are removed because 99% of those using it - have hacked it in. prolly best to remove all milspec scope until wind is calculated. stalking with only a handgun (like .45) = waaaay more fun and dangerous than noob sniping, which ALL snipers currently do. -
Arma 3 has the SFX pretty sorted, I have tested it on JBL6300's+6312sub, it sounds awesome. Arma didn't have particularly bad SFX and the 128 point sound engine is quite sorted. Maybe if Creative let go of their (probably legally unusable) Aureal Semiconductor acquisitions, we can use nice binaural SFX and true 3d sound. But I'm just dreaming of a time that never existed (except ten years ago)

none of this shit will work and you will all bear witness to the failsim. people WILL play ONLY in 3DP (time to mark up the monitor) and even fixed servers / hives just won't be played (as players really don't care about being a hardcore 'ARMA wanker'). I think the OP is talking more about sound design changes and not obtrusive music changes. While I turn the music off myself, I do so only because it IS obtrusive and a little movie-derivative. If the music was say, limited to 'stings' (short 3-5 second musical phrases) and very unobtrusive (I mean barely there) atmospheric music. That 1. enhanced gameplay by relating to environmental and situational changes and 2. had appropriate 'score' music, where 'score' music is warranted (e.g. car chase), then yes. Unfortunately budgets for music and implementation gets left to the last few months of the project with little allocated money. I have started working on a sound mod like this for DayZ, I'll release it to the community when it's done (I'm an aspiring composer/sound designer/audio implementation guy.). -
been reading the thread again. I'll have to say - yeah keep all the weps, I don't really care. What I care about is the EASE of which you can make even >1000M shots. It's PATHETICALLY EASY. Add WIND or REMOVE all sniper/scope. Currently it's fucking dumb.

Well... 1. ADD (highly realistic) WIND. then 99% of noob-cannon users would not even be able to shoot 'em anyway :) 2. REMOVE any wep that does over 8k damage WITHOUT hiting vitals. 3. Seriously, when are these weapons (AS50/M107) NOT locked behind 7ft of armory, away from the general populace? it's kinda silly to have them in the first place. But yeah, most people wont be able to shoot over 500m with proper wind physics.
