You will need a GPS-Tracker and a Full-Map to track your location. GPS-Tracker is not yet in the game... at the moment orientation has to be done with a compass or points of interest (cities for example).

Its the Burlap-Man, he only comes out at night and he follows people and makes weird noises. Normally he is pretty agressive and KoS.

DayZ has perma death... deal with it. There is currently not really any content (aside from pvp) in the game because it is in alpha-state. I personally shot the people that I am confronted with while looting...they would have kill me too if they had the opportunity. I've survived for about 4 weeks now while being mostly on 40 player servers and I am visiting NEAF, NWAF and such... People should stop to gear up on low-pop servers because that way the will never learn how to play this game and how to avoid encounters. If you can't manage to stay out of trouble, deal with it... simple as that. Sometimes I'm spotting a location for several minutes before I finally enter it... I'm not rushing anything. I only play 1-2 hours max a day because it is very hard to stay 100% cautious. My whole gear is urban-green which makes it possible to take full advantage of the environment. @those people saying DayZ is like BF4/CoD, that makes me laugh as DayZ is a tactical Shooter while BF4 and COD is Arcade-Trash. If you play DayZ as if you play those games... it is not surprising that you find yourself killed straight at the beach.

I do prefer the M4 by a large margin because I find myself in a close encounter pretty often. I've used the Mosin + Long Range Scope and it is defiantly a good sniping rifle but it makes you very vulnerable when looting. When I use the M4 I basically spray a few shots against the target and if 2-3 of them hit, the target is dead. While shooting with the Mosin you have to be a lot more careful because if you miss you will have to reload. My M4 does have a Bipod+Scope attached and this makes it a good medium range assault rifle as well. In close encounters I only shot from the hip, without going into aiming mode.

Is silencer for pistol/M4 working in current build?
YassirX replied to ncwyy2012's topic in General Discussion
I have an M4 with attached suppressor and the bullet sound is actually the same when I remove it. At the moment it is pretty meaningless to use the suppressor aside from saving inventory space. The good thing is... I could not encounter any disadvantages from equipping it either... -
If you get hit by a zombie it takes a few hours for the virus to catch in... so you basically have enough time to give your gear to a friend or hide it somewhere. Than your character turns into a zombie and you are locked to the screen for 1-2 minutes (to see the transformation), afterwards you can create a new character and your old character will remain as a zombie and the zombie will carry all the gear you had left in your inventory, the items would be corrupted by the virus and would need a treatment before they can be used or worn again, infected items will transfer the infection onto other items in your inventory after time... so it is not a good idea to leave those items there for too long after looting them... Overall I like the idea a lot. Ammo would be alot more important because a melee fight against a zombie would be very hard, I personally manage to win melee fights against up to 3 zombies at once without being hit but others may get hit easily in a melee battle, which means fire-arms would be the safe way to clean out zombies and players would not waste their ammo to kill other players, especially as they could hunt for "well equipped" zombies (see above). PvE would be a lot more attractive than it is now. Helmets, Vests and such could grant a protection against bites, which means that not every hit would lead to an infection. This feature + bigger and more spread zombie hordes would make the game amazingly hard and I would love it. Just imagine you walk around in the wilderness and you see a horde of 20 zombies which walks towards you and one of those zombies carries a very good weapon on his back and a big backpack... would you take the risk and approach the horde?

Hey DayZ Community, I personally think that DayZ would deserve a Collectors Edition. It could contain a printed Map of Chernarus and a DvD/Book which is documenting the Creation of DayZ from the sight of Rocket and the Developer Team.... maybe even some Ingame Items like a Special Clothing for Collectors-Edition buyers to show of their support for the game, but nothing game breaking (like weapons and such). Note: The Special Weapon could be a Golden AK 74 or something like that. If DayZ gets a own Soundtrack (which I do hope) this should be on the Special-DvD as well. Last but not least, most Collectors-Editions to carry a figure or picture... I personally think it would be funny if it would contain a Mountain Dew Can with the engraving "Made in Cherno"... What do you think about this Suggestions and what would you like the Collectors Edition to contain? regards

It has been confirmed that DayZ SA will have the Arma2 Engine (2.5 Version). I do wonder if this engine has the new physics improvements of Arma 3... which can be seen here: http://youtu.be/bz9mIgaBmU8?t=3m. (jump to minute 3:00)

What is your Dream Vision for Dayz - 2 Years from now?
YassirX replied to rassad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My "dream" features would be: - Crafting (you can find resources which can be crafted into items, depending on your crafting skill). - Better Physics (destroyable walls, better animations). - Bigger Map with more diversity (more climatic zones). - Rivers across the Map. - All big cities are currently across the coast, there should be a "metropolis" city which is far in the landscape. (map should be made bigger to apply this city). This city is very big and even has a few skyscrapers, it has big shopping malls, a prison, police office and student college... everything you expect from a really big city. - Trees should look more different and depending on the forest density, they should although should darken the environment in the forest. - Weapon-Customization (seems to be in the Standalone). - Grouping-System (invite people in a group to be able to see their location and health in a "Group-UI"). The "location" feature is only enabled on Regular Servers. - Ride-able Horses (farms should have a small chance to have "alive" horses, they need food to survive). There is although a horse perk, the player can improve the horse with some tools and interaction. Improved horses will move faster/have more hitpoints and such. To enable a horse to carry items, players can detach a backpack on a horse, the backpack will dissapear from the main inventory and can be seen on the horseback. If a horse dies it can be gutted to get 8 stacks of horse meat (which heals as much as cow-meat). - More Melee/Missile Weapons (Bows, Shields (craft-able), Swords... its an apocalypse!). - Players can use their Weapons while riding a Horse. - Car-Wheels can get out of air (for example when they are shot at), which is making it a lot harder to control the vehicle. - More Clothing and Clothing-Customization (Clothing can be modified with crafting). - Helmets can give small protection against heads-hots (depending on the bullet caliber) - More Bandit/Hero Levels (you get perks/additional clothing for getting a certain amount of negative/positive humanity points), for example: -20000 Humanity = 15% more damage with all weapons. +20000 Humanity = Meat has the ability to heal blood 30% stronger. + 30000 = Player acquires a police outfit which grants him more resistance against assault rifles (20% damage reduction). Sidenote: This would actually be a endgame feature which would discern veterans from new players, the term "survivor" would only be used for fresh spawns... as every player has the ambition to get further in the hero and bandit tree, as Humanity stays after death the gained abilities are permanent. It should be harder to rise/reduce Humanity and it should no longer drop/rise by itself. - Internal-Clan feature, people can get invited into a Clan, which enables them to get a "clan-chat" (similar to the side-chat, but only for clan-members). The "clan-chat" works across all severs. Clan-Members can interact across different Servers. If the Clan controls a Fort, Clan-Members have the ability to show the Fort-Location on the Map. - Players should be able to build fortified camps, there should be a limit of fort-camps for each server (depending on the map-size). If the limit is reached players will need to occupy the existing forts, this would although be a endgame source. People will want to have the best forts to be able to defend their items/cars/tools/horses etc. against enemy players. If a group occupies a fort, they can switch the position by transporting the equipment to a new location (a lot of vehicles will be needed to transport a whole fort). - Players can get infected with the Virus and transform into a zombie (this can be prevented by certain missions around Green-Mountain which would give you a medical cure with "single" use). The transformation will take a lot of time and will only progress while the player is online, it will start with reduced movement speed and changes in the players appearance (like stains on the players body). The whole transformation will take about 12 playtime hours, so every player is able to prevent it. Optional: If the players transforms into a zombie he will still have control over the character, he will need human flesh to survive and he cannot use any weapons, instead he gets different melee attacks. Movement-Speed is reduced by 20%. Every Hit has a 20% chance to knock a player unconscious. - There will be a bunker under Green-Mountain which has some very strong hostile NPC's (like Zombie-Soldiers who are able to fire weapons). Its a location that should only be visited by a group of players and it provides the best loot and if the player has the "zombie-cure" mission the bunker is although the final mission target. This means that the bunker is a PvP Zone as well. - If a player dies he can be resurrected with a defibrillator (chance = 70%). Resurrection is only possible within the first minute of the players death, if the players organs/head got hit he cannot be resurrected. -
I think the game is lacking something very important and thats most likely because it can't be done in the Mod, but maybe it can be added in the Standalone. I'm talking about a group functionality, players should be able to form groups. Groups should have a maximum size of 10 people and everybody who is part of the group can be seen on the map. There should although be a "group-UI" which is showing the health of each member and the currently equipped weapon. People can be invited and dismissed from the group and the group is not permanent, it only exits as long as the group leader is online or the leader decided to close the group. The group leader can transfer his right to another player (in case he logs off).

Will there ever be proper bullet penetration in SA/mod?
YassirX replied to Cheese Grinder's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
...and that would be normal Gameplay. DayZ tends to be realistic, so this should be in the game. It would although prevent some of those campers who hide in loot buildings until a lonely survivor runs in front of their scope. -
The giving of a title to the one they call "OrLok"
YassirX replied to TheDesigner's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Jackass (which although means Donkey xD) -
I'm pretty sure that this discussion would have not been that intense if the changelog would have been more detailed. The changelog did imply that those are the actual names of the food items, while in fact it was "only" written in the item description. A proper screenshot of the food in game or a better explanation of the implantation maybe could have prevented most trouble.

There are two major bugs: 1. When the player changes the clothing he spawns at the ocean (~100m above the water). If he does not abort he dies, if he aborts he spawns randomly at the coast. 2. The crossbows creates graphical artifacts ...the Cities seem to be pretty empty as well (not many zombies around).

I have to say that I'm sorry. I was complaining toward the food-names as well, without even testing the new version, my complains where based on the change log. Today I played the game and realized that the moderator names are only in the item description and the item itself is named properly (soda), (canned beans). I'm fine with the way that this was added to the game. I will continue to play with 1.7.6.

Okay got it, the bugs in Arma 2: Zombiemod (I will not call it DayZ anymore, as it appears to be different game) will not get sorted out, mainly because there is being worked on a new engine environment with new engine, codes and animations. Arma 2: Zombiemod is not a Alpha anymore, because there will not be a final product related to "Arma 2: Zombiemod". People pay 20€ to play Arma 2: Zombiemod in the false assumption that it is infact DayZ in Alpha-Condition. The Communityboard continues to work on Arma2: Zombiemod to pass the time until the "DayZ" arrives. Updates are no longer targeted towards the player-base (which still exists), but the small community of this forum. Well... I guess I will just stop playing Arma 2: Zombiemod then. I thought it was for testing purposes, but it apparently is not. This game is not a Alpha, its a playground. I'm not in the mood for a playground. I came back a few days ago because the 1.7.5.1 changes where really interesting... just to see this 1.7.6 stuff. If the Arma 2: Zombiemod is not for testing purposes it is only remaining for boosting the sales of Arma 2 and its newly released "Arma 2: Collection" version which is falsely advertised with "DayZ" label. I will just wait for DayZ now.
-
...but Gameplay wise. The Alpha is intended to test the gameplay! The gameplay is a very crucial part of the game. In fact there should only be Updates which are regarding Gameplay... because the whole environment (graphics, animations and such) will change in the final game. This food addition should have been uploaded with the final update, shortly before the Standalone goes life and not during a important part of the development.
-
...which means that even "Mountain Man" should realize that this was a failure. Guys... this mod is not free, you need Arma 2 to run it. DayZ is an official trademark of Bohemia Interactive now. I spent 20€ for Arma 2 to play this labeled trademark, this is the Alpha of the Standalone. Heck, Bohemia Interactive is even advertising the Arma 2: Collection on Steam to be recommended for "DayZ". Arma 2 only sales because of DayZ. Some experimentation is fine... but this food thing is just totally awkward. Basically I (and many others) already paid 20€ for DayZ. So...Why should I have the forum moderators names on my food in the game? This games has bugs, lots of bugs. It was said that the release date has changed to offer a more quality product but what I do actually see it the lack of seriousness in the alpha development (DayZ 1.xx). _______ Some Moderators here do not seem to know that this word comes from "moderate". Responses like "You should go out more" do show how the community is treated right here.

People kill on sight because they don't mind about teaming up with other players, as the zombies are no threat. I rarely ever got killed by a zombie, I was more often killed by bugs and of course, other players.
-
If a player shots a gun in a town, every zombie around 200meters should aggro him, its that simple. Pistols should aggro every zombie from 100meters (or less, G17 for example should be 80-70m).
-
...but that's what the majority does. They look at the bad things first and only if there is nothing to complain they will be graceful. Again, I'm warning everybody that this tiny addition is unnecesary and leads to confusion (as can be seen here in the thread). I totally forget to mention that people get disconnected when eating the new food as it is not recognized by Battle-Eye, so there has been a lot of testing before this has been thrown on the live-server, I guess. Sure they are... but people will always combine the DayZ(1.XX) with DayZ(2.0) and that's totally normal, because the Alpha is the development for the final product.
-
Amazing, there is basically ignorance from both sides. The players and the forum administration. This is the alpha version, for sure... but stuff like this food will prevent some people from buying the standalone, as it adds some weird food with forum-names into the game... totally without sense. It was meant as a joke and appreciation for the mods... that for sure, but it has been added at a wrong moment, while the game itself is full of bugs. You can do such things when the game is fine or the SA has been released, but not during development... simple. ...but hey... I don't care. I can't mod any game but I can do other stuff. I buy stuff (like Arma 2) and use it. Seriously, some Moderators say that there is no grace for the Developers of this game... they are totally wrong. DayZ was the main factor why Arma 2 is exploding in sales... is that not enough grace for the developers? Dean Hall was even hired by Bohemia and I guess some others as well! I do earn money and I spent money. If this game does no longer grantee quality and integrity, I will quit using it or will never decide to buy it (SA). Stuff like the grammar failures and this weird food are factors for bad quality of a product.
-
Well, maybe it's a wise decision to remove the added food or change its name to a more realistic kind in a hotfix. I think this new food is adding to much confusion and is distracting from the other really good improvements with 1.7.6. I have to agree that all those grammar failures are somehow a little confusing, does nobody check the announcement before its posted? I like the patch (gameplay-wise)... but as I said, the food is adding confusion and should be removed (most of the players seem to think that way).
