You might be right from the consumer perspective, that the stand-alone version should be free to Arma 2 owners, I bought Arma 2 just for the sake of DayZ. But I do not agree with you, Arma 2 owners still have the Mod and people who are working on the standalone version need to be paid. Especially if we take in account that all the manpower Bohemia Interactive allocate to DayZ project could have been working on a new game instead. Then again, I kinda expect Rocket and Bohemia Interactive to take DayZ mod to the next level in the standalone build, the level that cannot be achieved through means of modding. To make up to arma 2 owners, people who purchase DayZ standalone could receive some special in-game item or similar. But then again, I'll be just happy to pay if they turn dayz standalone into something 200 times more spectacular and engaging then the current dayz mod without sacrificing realism. -

You are expecting too much, a big change happened to DayZ mod, it went from being a fan made mod to its own game. What I expect, is that Rocket need to learn a new development pipeline, become acquainted with a new team and most likely new apartment/location. The next major update will, most likely, happen a month from now on and the stand alone build might surface 3-4 month from now on (most likely 6). This is what people should call "reasonable" expectations, anything that surfaces sooner is a bonus. -

Get eaten couple of dozens times by zombies while trying to loot in a small settlement, learn how to manage zombie aggro and cross the fucking road. Get killed a whole load by other players, learn to be quick and efficient when visiting cities and LEAVE THE COAST, go north. -

I dont want to kill people, in fact, I would gladly give them some food and transfusion if they gave me a chance. Before I ever know it, some douche will shoot at me with a fully automatic rifle.

Hello people. Could we have a patch that will enable use use of Hatchet or Flash light without having to equip them into weapon slots? Like straight out of tool belt. Often I have to make a choice to run around with a rifle or an axe, rifle is very useful when dealing with zombies at extremely long range, but when you are scavenging in a village, a rifle will gain you an entire horde of zombies. Here is where an Hatchet comes in handy, chop a zombie that refuses to move out of the way and continue. But I cannot seem to have both hatchet and a rifle or a handgun and a flash light :( Unless we are talking about silenced weapons, which are hard to find.

And here I was thinking we should get 1 to 6 "Quick bar" buttons in addition :) As of now, I dont think you can "own" a rifle AND equip a hatchet. If I have a rifle and equip hatchet my rifle is dropped??? -

I expected this much. But I guess melee slot of its own is nice and everything, but wont fix the flash light. So a temporary fix would be to enable us to use certain tools right out of the tool belt. -

Missions sound interesting, perhaps even something like loot-able "Stash markers", similar to Stalker:SC or rescue missions for NPCs. But what really would be interesting if the game had a goal, like in all zombie movies the survivors have a goal to "get to the safe zone". It could be similar in DayZ, but instead a player may or may not loot information that will tell him location X is a safe zone and so he has to find that place. No guarantee there is a safe place to begin with, when the player reaches his destination he might just find that it has been overrun by zombies and survivors left, leaving a clue that will lead him to the next "safe place". Thankfully zombies cant read :) Upon reaching the safe zone, player is told that he will be evacuated if condition X is met, the condition can be anything. For example the rescue will come if there are enough survivors waiting for it. Or player could just get his own chopper and fly-off into the sunset. -
Just signed up and purchased Arma 2 of steam, your story sounds pretty amazing, I am really looking forward to try DayZ. I just hope that Asus G74SX can run this well :)
