    Persistence explanation?

This is only half correct from what I have seen so far. On persistent servers you can find loads of loot, huge amount in fact. But it will be low grade loot, like having tons of backpacks lying around, large amount of clothing and then some food and drink. High grade weapons and attachments will be rather difficult to spawn because of idiot developers. My guess from what I've read and experienced is that persistent server have a loot cap of sorts preventing them from being overpopulated by items. But not all items have equal spawn chance, lets say that a barrack at NWAF have a 5% chance to spawn a weapon and 50% chance to spawn a backpack or clothing, on five restarts this barrack rolls on 50% and now contain 5 items of clothing or backpack. Now all the loot slots are used up and these items will have to be removed by someone before new loot could spawn. I think this is the main reason to why I have seen so many air hangars filled with boots and backpacks instead of something that is actually useful. It would also explain why we often see civilian buildings contain loot that is unusual for this type of building. Mainly because a player went into a that area because it is known to often contain a good melee weapon, player picked it up and went away. Next player visits that place in hopes of picking up a melee weapons but finds a different item which he/she already acquired at a different location prior to visiting this place. I like the idea of persistence, but this current implementation is a waste of database space. What is the point of keeping a ruined items lying around when you can't mend these items or re-use them for anything. In my opinion restarts should refresh servers, remove unused items, clean up old loot and spawn new. Container items such as small protected cases, med kits, ammo containers, tents, backpacks should remain on server but only under CERTAIN conditions. Such conditions can be: Is container not empty? Has owner logged on in last 24 hours? Has container been accessed in last 24 hours? All of these parameters should be adjustable by server owners so they can customize their own experience and viable by players so they know what rules apply on the server. One thing that really bothers me is how after a server restart, all doors remain wide open. The thrill of coming across a building with all door's sealed and thinking "Lucky, a place nobody has looted before" is completely gone in 0.50. You just visit same old locations over and over again to pick up more shoes and more clothing so that you can look fabulous.

Can you post or message server IP please?

    Persistence explanation?

I only know about following ways to degrade items: falling/taking damage or random bug. Weapons degrade as you use them, however my fire axe seems fine even after all the zombie chopping.

    Server browser

Hey man, thanks for making this thread, I actually wanted to rant about how bad server browsing is. So yeah the server browser in game is pretty bad, but its better than server browser in Arma 2. I usually keep a text file of servers I liked with IP so I can easily look it up in Remote. What ticks me the most, is the amount of servers that show up in your list that you simply can't connect to, you just end up being stuck at "Waiting for host". Player counter is also bugged, you refresh your list, join a server with 10-15 people and there is either only 5 on or server is nearly full. Server history is completely useless, it does not display your last played server or when you last time played on what server. Yeah, there is a lot of improvement needed to be done on this part.

Is it time to come back?

If you fancy playing Cosplay Survivor Simulator, then go right ahead. Now on slightly more serious note; everything depends on your expectations. If you loved vanilla Dayz, then you will enjoy standalone. If you were an EPOCH fan like me, you will find standalone to be rather dull experience. There are new things added to the game, you can finally cook meat, but you can't add meat, potatoes and tomato into a pot and make a stew. Neither can you really make veggie stew without meat or cook soup. So we have a very very basic cooking right now, but its in the game, how much added value it has is a different story. Players who likes Dyril Dixon or Catnis will finally have their dream fulfilled as both crossbows and regular bows are in the game, and you can craft your own arrows. It is also possible to trap animals now too, rabbit and fish can be caught with traps. On the flip side, loot is pretty broken right now. You can literally find clothing in DROVES, but finding a decent gun, some magazines and attachments is nearly impossible. Furthermore added "Persistence" is actually pretty bad while still being good. Remember how you would run towards some kind of building and see all the doors locked and be like "Oh yeah baby, a building nobody has looted yet". Well now all doors retain their status, waste of database space if you ask me, but some users really like it. As for me, I liked it better when certain things got reset after server restart. Looting is pretty limited to certain items like Makarov, AKM and SKS in terms of how commonly you would find loot of associated with these items. You do remember how in early alpha builds you could find FNX, 1911, M4s and loads of stuff for these guns? Well, now you can only find Makarov and makarov mags, rarely something else. tl;dr Go play it for a while, get bored and get off. The game is far from finished but its playable.

    Persistence explanation?

Haha, I actually thought that since they disabled wells and your only source of water is either sea (salt) or ponds (fresh) purification tablets would actually become useful. Oh well, I guess I don't have to worry about it now.

    Dead zombies blocking stairways

Hello forums, I could not help but notice that dead zombies are now solid objects you can't walk over, same goes for large backpacks. You have to walk around these objects or vault and vaulting is not reliable enough of solution. I do not know how other people feel about dead zombies blocking the stairways, but I do find it to be rather inconvenient. Hope something will be done SOON (aka 1-2 weeks) not next fracking year.

DayZ 0.5 first impression after long break

No, its been there for ages. I usually went there after looting bolota, but so far I am not impressed by military installations, they hardly have any loot. As for the bunker, so far what I've seen on youtube it's nothing more than a hole in a ground with 3-4 ladders and barely any loot. I'll drop by that tent city later today.

Plans to hotfix 0.50? (Dev reply please?)

Is this issue only limited to private hives? To me it feels as if public hives are suffering from lack of loot as well.

I miss the global text chat channel that was in the MOD

I remember the dayz of Epoch where you could banter with bandits in side chat, help newbies who asked for pick up and generally socialize with people while you were enjoying a game. Dayz lack the social part and so far it has done for me nothing less but degrade the overall experience and alienate players on the server. Building a community without communication is very difficult. But I am certain that there will be servers which specify that channel Y is side chat and make all people start with a radio.

DayZ 0.5 first impression after long break

Hey Doc, thanks for replying. I am not crying because of changes or asking to revert to how things used to be. I am simply trying to provide constructive feedback on my experience in DayZ. I found a fair share of ammo for Mosin, but carrying 4x20 stacks of ammo with me all the time is silly, so I reduced it to 2x20, the problem is that once you start using your primary weapon you would quickly run out of ammo. On top of which 5.56 come in stacks of 30 while 7.62 come in stacks of 20, I just wish for a more unified ammo system, so that some weapons wont have an advantage over others. If people want to PVP there is a large amount of shotguns easily available, ammo seems to be also common. Vanilla DayZ and Epoch have always been about snipers, you wanted to PVP, you got yourself a sniper. Very few people were actually doing PVP with assault rifles or went into close range, mainly due to the latency delay between shooting and dying, even mortally wounded your opponent still had a chance to turn around and kill you. My point being, mosin is what goes around for a sniper rifle in SA and its fairly common and while I am not much of a PvP person, I simply miss M4 because I could put a silencer on it and kill zombies with minimal risk. Axe is fine too, of course, silent and even saves ammo, but sometimes you just wanna shoot stuff. Speaking of axes, did they do something to melee? It is much easier to hit zombies with fire axe now and they die with one hit (except for military zombies). Bolota was completely overpowered in the sense of how much loot it provided, however I do not feel like NE airfield was such a gold mine. Sure there was a few buildings yeah, but with current loot iteration even NW airfield with dozen of military loot spawns got absolutely no worthwhile loot. What are those military installation are you talking about?

DayZ 0.5 first impression after long break

Yeah I am literately lying on ground in the pouring rain without without rain resisting clothing and my status is "Overheating" and "Soaked" in addition to being well hydrated. At the moment I see the game as having bad loot distribution. There are some desirable items that are very common (like good backpacks, military clothing, storage boxes, shotguns and basic weapons) and there are some items that are a complete bitch to find, like cartridges and magazines. Finding a coyote backpack used to be an achievement in vanilla DayZ while Alice backpack was the "common" next best thing. I find all kinds of backpacks in DROVES, even hunting and mountain backpack. I even found two range finders laying around and these used to be like the hardest item to get in vanilla DayZ, right next to night vision goggles. In my opinion current item availability greatly degrease item usefulness. Even if an automatic weapon is desirable, because of the scarcity of ammunition and mods for the weapon (including difficulty to find magazines) said weapon become rather undesirable. Just like in the vanilla DayZ silenced weapons and ammunition used to be extremely rare and while Bizon SD were easy to find, you never had enough ammunition for it. STANAG SD were fairly common while finding an SD weapon for these mags was a nightmare. This is especially badly reflected over pistols, I find macarovs and magazines for macarov in droves. But not a single magazine for 1911 or a revolver. What does it mean? Well most people who wish for a side arm will use a macarov or settle for a revolver as it has 6 bullets in the drum between each reload. Further more people running around with automatic rifle, even if they have no desire to murder other players will most likely become a target, just because some people want your sh1t. As for the combat knife, I don't understand why it should be difficult to find. It's not like combat knife is a complete OP game changing item, it's just a melee weapon with some extra utility. EDIT: I describe this items common because they used to be very easy to find in earlier builds. Items such as camo clothing and military wests are rather common items in my opinion. Anyway, I am a loot wh0re who used to have droves of items in EPOCH, I could literally equip a whole army if needed. I love collecting items for my friends and giving them away, current loot system is not satisfying enough in terms of risk vs reward vs time investment. Also I spent about 20 minutes thinking and writing this post, meanwhile my character was soaked and lying on in the open ground under constant rain. Now he finally has cooled off, but not enough to start freezing. So yeah, temperature system is not optimal yet.

    Zombie pushing player through walls

So, after a long break a couple of friends invited me to play standalone with them. Spawn with a new character on the coast near Olsha. Walked into a house to look for loot and a zombie followed me. After trading bunches for a bit scored my first K.O. on that zombie and it fell on its ugly face, pushing me straight through the wall.. Now am stuck inside of a fucking house and nothing I tried can get me out. Re-logging, vaulting, crawling, crouching, trying using eat/drink to glitch through wall, nothing helps. Fun game!

DayZ Standalone - We Keep Coming Back

The mod is really good, the promise of a better experience than the mod is too sweet. I keep coming back once in a while to check on the progress and give some feedback/rage to the forums.
  18. Zing Freelancer

Why do YOU prefer SA over the mod?

There is enough feedback, not enough development.
  19. It happens when an item is located up on a wardrobe and you already have something equipped that takes up that slot, and you don't have space in the inventory to put it there.

Will not be playing again until fire axe is un-nerfed

Well, if DayZ is going to push realism into my face, I might as well start expecting zombies not to fucking run through walls? Maybe have some proper zombie physics and AI, make it so actually running through garbage or a bunch of obstacles will trip that zombie on your six, giving you a chance to escape? You know what, let just start with wall glitching, if that is fixed, then we can start looking at the shitty, glitchy animation. Who the fuck made that animation? I mean one of the animations literally pushes the player character around, what often can result in player stuck on the inside of the building and the worst part is, zombies just follow on with you. Oh right, I recall Dean "Rocket" Hall wearing a mocap suite.... How about when I hit a zombie in a body with a freaking fire axe I send it flying or knock it down on the floor? How about when I hit a zombie in a leg, it breaks the leg and forces zombie to crawl instead? How about being able to push zombies away with your gun or axe, knocking them down off their feet or just stunning them for half second giving you a chance to hit their head?
  21. LOL. You might want to go back to playing CoD? Oh well fuck it, this insult is getting old anyway. Maybe this game is not for me, because I seem to have unrealistic expectations. Is it so wrong of me to expect DayZ to be a zombie survival game and not a "Is Jack the Ripper in Town" simulator? The idea is that people are supposed to survive in a world filled with zombies and where did all the zombies go? Fair enough you kill one or two odd zombies running around, I am never paranoid about zombies, about not having enough food or drink, not even paranoid about not having a weapon. The only thing that worries me is when will I NOT see another player coming, who will realize that I do not see him and just shoot me, because why the fuck not?
  22. You got it wrong again, games can have both depth and accessibility. Think of the learning curve as a staircase, if you skip 3-5 steps, there will be a gap wide enough to make walking up to second floor nearly impossible for normal people, without having to work really hard to compensate for the missing steps. Of course there will be some people who can just leap over the gap and determinate enough people will still get to the second floor. Now by removing the steps and creating the gap you might have made it more "fun" to reach the second floor, but all you managed to accomplish is making your stairs inaccessible to the majority of the users. A good game is supposed to be both user-friendly and accessible, the depth will determine for how long a game will continue to entertain a user. But at no point should DayZ resemble this:

Will not be playing again until fire axe is un-nerfed

I think most people like me is just disgusted at how melee mechanics work. I like to be stealthy when dealing with zombies, in the mod I was able to do that with countless SILENCED weapons and if need be with a melee weapon. One hit kill with an axe was a fair trade as you actually had to be close to a freaking zombie. I loved sneaking through the town, coming up on zombies from the back and just removing them one by one until I make my way to a decent loot area. I mean, bullets could be sparse in the mod, especially when you are not rich, wasting ammo shooting zombies in the torso was a bad move. Especially if you were using a loud weapon like AKM or something else, the entire town would come down running. In stand alone it has become REALLY difficult to kill zombies with melee weapons and its ULTRA easy to kill them with fire arms, especially when you can find ammo so freaking easy. This is what puts me off the game, I can't play it my way, I have to use a gun to eliminate zombies efficiently.
  24. There will always be problems of realism vs fun. So far the game have good amount of realism and I welcome more, but there is not enough fun. For me, the KoS aspect of the game has to go. I am tired of playing DayZ in constant paranoia that if I do not look around every corner, if I am not constantly aware of my surroundings, then I will get shot by other players who just happen to walk past me. Players who are out there to shoot others are fine, they put up a camp or a trap, they can be dealt with. But getting KoS by every damn player for absolutely no good reason, without even a chance to say "hello?", is just too annoying. Fixed it for you, this is what customers want and in that particular order. Without depth there can be no satisfaction, but the "depth" has to be accessible, when a game has a depth and manage to ease players in it, it creates satisfaction. Don't you ever get it wrong again.
  25. Zing Freelancer

    It's all gone wrong

For my part, I would love my 20 back and pretend SA never happened. It is a bit rude and immature, yes, but that is how I feel about DayZ Standalone. vDayz and Epoch got issues, but they never made me want to ask for my money back, they were fun, SA is kinda meh. I played for a while after the initial alpha release, but went back to the mod again. Now nearly half a year after my first visit to Chernarus+, I tried the game for 3 days and its boooooooooooooooooooring. If Jeremy Jahns would review this alpha, am pretty sure he would call it dog shit. The problem from what I see is lack in Game Play, currently there is just one thing you can do for fun, loot or hunt other players. Shooting glitchy zombies is just a chore you do if an odd zombie jumps on your six. Did I mention the glitchy zombies? It seem they went from bad to terrible since the initial alpha release, but now they respawn too!. They are running like maniacs after you, disregarding bushes and trees you try to put between yourself and them, this is like the biggest problem people had with zombies in vDayz. They are wall glitching all the time and have some idiotic animations that makes hitting them with melee weapon a test in patience and luck, in addition melee weapons got nerfed vs Zombies. I dont know what kind of logic designers are using, but smacking a zombie periodically with an axe in the head and missing 90% of the time because of the glitchy zombie animations is not what I would refer to as fun. Now days if you wish to kill a zombie you have to rely on firearms, so everyone is heading to the military locations, lets set up a camp and see how many witless idiots will waltz right into our trap. It's not a bad thing, it just gets boring very quickly. The biggest grips I have with the DayZ SA is the Engine, its really bad. It looks nice, but for the performance it delivers, they might as well have used CryEngine. Not to mention everything is slow, every action and animation is taking forever, really ill suited for a survivor game where eating a can of beans can literally mean your doom because a random zombie x-ray aggro's you through a wall 100m away and you didn't get any notifications. Then said zombie attacks you and there is nothing you can do because you are stuck in eating animation. "No no, just give me one second, got to finish this can of beans. Oh you are munching on my ear? Well, help yourself to the brain than!". What is most annoying is when you are looting, it takes like half a second after you mouse over an item for the info window to pop up. In 4 month it will be 2 years since development of Standalone started and where is it now? If that is all the progress they made in two years and Dean "Rocket" Hall is already talking about leaving the studio and doing some other things on his own, like starting his own studio, even before the game is anywhere near a beta state. I got sold a pipe dream of a better dayz experience through the standalone, where is this dream now? Is Standalone anywhere near being better than the mod? Idk, I dont feel that way and that is why people are asking for their money back. Really looking forward to seeing how H1Z1 will do against DayZ SA.
