Zoop replied to duddbudda's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Trying to purchase it now, but can't remember my GG password and the email refuses to come through. Goddamn ISP with it's goddamned greylisting causing issues with email. -

And your response is ad hominem attacks? Yes, that makes your argument so much more convincing. As for logging out on top of Zub, my point is that I can't think of any solid reason to justify logging out on top of not only a banditry hotspot, but doing so knowing it is in the middle of an unfriendly clan's base. It makes no sense at all. Either way, I'm disregarding your whole report and accusation of admin abuse towards the server admins. If you can't bring an argument across without resorting to childish name-calling and insults, then I don't think you really have a solid argument in the first place. -
And with the entire electricity grid being down, how are you going to use a cellphone? Besides that, do you have a cellphone in-game? Anyway, I also got frustrated with trying to meet up with people at first, but once you get used to the map, which happens rather fast, it's no problem. Even if you spawn on opposite ends of the map, meeting up shouldn't take more than 20 minutes for someone who has a vague idea of the layout of the map.

Protip: When running uphill, run sideways. Also, a grouping system? In a mod focused on immersion? Really now? Do you have a grouping system in real life? If the zombie apocalypse happens tomorrow and you have no means to contact your family, will you be able to simply pop up a menu and 'group up' with your family, instantly knowing where they are without even having any way to talk to them?
-
Did you try running through buildings or running around trees in the forest? Because honestly, I struggle to believe you had such issues losing the zombies when the rest of us are always complaining about how easy the zombie survival aspect it.

New players don't want a negative experience of Dayz!
Zoop replied to BossFi's topic in New Player Discussion
Well, I've got a message for new players: Suck it up. We all had to. -
Okay, after his last post it's clear this guy is just an elaborate troll. Ignore him and move on. Nothing further to see here folks.

This is an amazing mod, but not for people who come in expecting CoD. Also, seriously, I think half of what you said is probably lies. It's so ridiculously easy losing zombies that are chasing you. If you really didn't lose them, it's probably because you ran across wide open fields. Protip: Forests are your friends.

All I read from the OP was "I'm an idiot so this game sucks."

Admin added PW to server after his death.
Zoop replied to danne_jo@hotmail.com's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Not quite possible. 'Lost session' indicates that the server was shut down. When the server gets shut down, all corpses in-game disappear, so he wouldn't be able to recover his gear. Either there's more to this story or he passworded the server for another reason. -
Just a note, 'No connection' errors are usually indicative of a server crash, not a restart.

Because logs are not saved somewhere the devs can access them. They're saved on the server itself.

Kicks by ping, and why its annoying
Zoop replied to blackout14@live.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Someone just explained the whole desync thing to me, so here's a more conclusive explanation. Arma 2 is based on very shoddy network code. Every time a player does anything in-game, the server has to sync that data with all the other players on the server. That means that if you crash your car in DayZ, it has to sync that data to the Hive as well as everyone else busy playing. This explains why people often teleport around each other, because while you're looking at your friend in one place, he might be in another place but the server hasn't sent synced his position to your client yet. Even when a player simply logs in, it has to sync his position, gear, character attributes like his face and voice etc with every player on the server. That's why there's often desyncs when players join the game. Now, as you can imagine, for someone living farther away, this whole process will take longer. You might think 150ms is nothing, but when a lot of things are happening in-game, with all the data being sent to and from you it takes a lot longer than for the other players on the server who live closer to the physical server, thus you affect everyone else on the server by making desyncs worse. It's a crude explanation, but it more or less captures the gist of it. -

Are you an admin? Do you have any experience with running a DayZ server? Okay then. Please know what you're talking about before you start accusing people of being 'noob' admins. :) Either way, this thread pretty much serves no purpose because people clearly don't want to listen to reason, so I'll just leave you with this; ping limits are there for a reason and they're there to stay. Don't like it? Find another server. -
Kicks by ping, and why its annoying
Zoop replied to blackout14@live.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Because of the way DayZ works with the Hive, people with higher pings often cause hectic desync for the rest of the server. I'm not entirely clued up on the exact technicalities, but any server admin would be able to tell you that not only is desyncs a lot more frequent when international players play on a server, the server load is also a lot higher and makes the server more prone to crashes. As I said, stop being selfish by wanting to degrade the experience for everyone else all because you want to play with your friends. Can't find a server that doesn't kick you? Host your own or get your friends to host one. -
Sorry man, I was watching the whole thing through my DMR and I just had to shoot you because I shoot everyone I see. :P
-
Did you actually get in or did you get kicked before you even got in? I admin a server myself, and sometimes when I try to join it kicks me for no reason until I relaunch the game.
-
If the shooter is far enough away, you won't hear the shot. The fact that your friend's legs broke and you died tells me a sniper tried to kill your friend, but only broke his legs, then got a kill on you. Was likely a group of players up there, with a sniper covering them, who would be the one who hit you.

Bullying, Can or cannot ban if it is constant?
Zoop replied to theengine's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The mission file released a month and a half ago already has side-chat disabled. Once again, he is either using a very outdated mission file or he edited it. A new mission file released at the start of July, so if his mission file still has side-chat natively implemented, it means he is now two mission files behind. -
Yeah, another one of these threads! YAI! Because the people they're addressing always see them.

Hey, you posted the topic, insulting all the admins and members of their clan. Then Semipro came in and, in the face of all your accusations, responded in a civil and mature way. Guess who I'm going with. Besides, there's still one patchy piece of your whole story. Logging out on top of Zub. Aside from a very inexperienced player, who would log out on top of Zub, where a clan established their base, and where when you log back in you might log in right next to a clan member keeping watch from the top of the tower? And that when you can spend 30 seconds extra to run down the hill and log out in a safe area? -

Zoop replied to theengine's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Side chat got disabled in the mission file about a month and a half back already. Unless he's running a very outdated mission file, he had to edit the mission file to re-enable side-chat, which is against the server hosting rules. We're not allowed to edit the mission file. -

Disable side-chat, and voila! Problem solved. Besides, as far as I know, we're not supposed to have side-channel on anyway. -
Ah, so basically server-flanking then. It's something I only just hate more than Alt-F4ers.

Would anyone mind explaining what ghosting actually means? I'm not quite sure I understand the term. Thanks.
