It doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't the admin, but if it was him he was hacking, because admins don't have any tools available to them to insta-kill players. The admin tools for ArmA is actually incredibly limited.

Yeah, the argument is basically 'hurrrr if you allow people to lock/password servers something that is already happening is going to happen!' -
How we run UK105, And why we don't have hackers.
Zoop replied to DatenThielt's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Or maybe your server is just lucky? The fact that hackers don't frequent it doesn't necessarily mean your security keeps them out, it might only mean that your server isn't frequented by hackers. Yet. -

Oh? Me 'turn it around?' You've been accusing all of us of being admin abusers right off the bat in this thread. Once again, you can make accusations but you want to shit yourself if we do the same? Also; I'm going to say this one last time, and hopefully this time you understand. Admin abuse. Is. Already. Happening. It's not something that's suddenly going to start happening once we are allowed to whitelist our servers. Yes, because at the moment that is working so well with hackers simply bypassing the cheat detection scheme in ArmA2 and spoofing other users' IDs. Please, Valec, you're out of your depth here. Come back when you actually know what's up. -

So it's okay for you to accuse all admins of safe farming, but if we accuse you of something you say 'nice try'? So you can make assumptions and generalize, but we can't? Firstly, if you know a way for me to play on an Intel GMA4500 M chipset, please, by all means, do tell, because I sure as hell can't get the game running on this netbook. I'm not playing. I'm trying to look out for my community of players. Secondly, hacks have nothing to do with the DayZ devs. It's Bohemia and BattlEye's responsibility. Thirdly, hackers are going to be here until somebody does something to take away the open playground DayZ currently is. People hack DayZ because it's piss easy. Last week Bohemia banned a bunch of hacks and hackers. This week they're back with the exact same hacks, having just modified their hacks ever so slightly. It's going to continue happening, because BattlEye is a piece of shit that doesn't work properly. The problem isn't going to go 'poof!' and vanish one day. -

Oh, really? So us saying that we're aware it's going to be abused by a large portion of admins is us saying admin abuse won't take place? PS. Admin abuse is already rife, with or without these rules. Uh-huh, smart guy. So, if you're so smart, tell us what these other ways are? I'm not seeing you making any contributions in terms of suggestions. All I'm seeing is someone complaining because he's scared if we can lock the servers he won't be able to loot-farm by server hopping anymore. It makes sense that you're pushing this agenda for the reason I mentioned. -
WHY is this thread still going? The suit got removed months ago. I'm willing to be that even if it does come back, people are still going to KoS. Get over it.

I see a lot of people are doing this, but is it actually legit? I always thought those were kind of the 'hacked' servers. -

Indeed, which is why the devs will just have to have faith and trust in admins not to let the community devolve into thousands of locked servers with nobody able to play. That's why I think a trial period of a week or two might be a good thing. Let server admins set up whitelists, monitor how things go for a week or two, and then make a final decision from there. -

Just to point out, with my request to let us lock the servers, it is not because I condone attitudes like this: I want to be able to password the server for the protection of my community, not for myself. Chances are, I won't be playing the mod again until the December holidays. I'll want to keep an open whitelist, and just request that people submit applications, then I'll freely give them the password to the server. It's all just about monitoring who plays on the server. If someone hacks, then I'll know it's either someone who I've whitelisted, or someone from the whitelist who gave out the password to hackers. It will make it a lot easier to monitor who is hacking, that's all. If I see people connecting to the server whose names are not on the whitelist, I'll know something's up. It's not because we want to hoard vehicles (which is rather retarded, imo, because what's the point of hoarding if you're never going to use them all? Also, vehicles are deathtraps. I walk or I use a bicycle.) or farm weapons, it's because we're tired of having our regular players get the shit hacked right out of them because some script-kiddie is bored. -

We're having a mature discussion here about rules for running DayZ servers. If you can't discuss it maturely, get out of the thread please. The very fact that you generalize all admins as cheaters shows how little you know of what you are talking about, and probably shows you don't want servers locked for very different reasons. Are you a server-hopping loot-farmer, by any chance? I want to be able to password my server so my players don't get teleported to the middle of nowhere and get killed all because some douchebag hacker wasn't loved as a child. I don't want to lock the server so I can farm in peace, firstly because I don't even have the means of playing the game at the moment, and secondly because I rarely use any other gun than the Enfield. So, really, why would I want to farm loot, even if I could? The most powerful weapon is lying right there, in Cherno and Elektro. As for the mod who asked about us being able to ban - the problem is, how do you get proof? Sometimes you are aware that someone is hacking, but you have no way to prove it, especially seeing as BattlEye doesn't always detect their scripts so doesn't log them. Me not even being able to play means that I'm entirely dependent on my players to submit visual proof of hackers and report any incidents, and that's not always available either. -
I never said you're not allowed to complain. I said you need to know whether your complaint is valid in the first place. No use banning admins for something they don't even have the tools to do.

Why do people always assume every single admin wants to abuse the system. Do you even know how ironic it is that you're accusing me of wanting to hoard equipment in a game I haven't played in a month? Do you know what my uber leet gaming PC at the moment is? A Samsung RV510. 2.09Ghz Dual Core, 2GB ram and a state of the art integrated Intel GMA4500M. AMAZING! Last night, trying to play Divine Divinity on this thing was impossible due to low framerate. So, really, how do you suppose I run DayZ on this thing without making it melt onto my lap? How am I supposed to hoard equipment on a server I don't even have any means to play on? -

What I'm saying is drop the whole 'preservation of the community' thing. Give admins a bit of rope to work with and allow them control over their own servers. I really appreciate what you guys are trying to do by trying to police servers so that admin abuse doesn't take place, but it isn't working. Admin abuse takes place despite the rules you've instated. Give admins a choice. Right now you're contending with not only rampant hackers, but also admin abuse. Give the DayZ community permission to police itself. All other FPS games leave admins in charge of their own servers, and here's the thing, most of them aren't desolate wastelands. Looking at BF3 again, people simply avoid the shitty servers and play on others. If someone plays on a server and encounters admin abuse, chances are he's going to go play on another server and not go back to the first one again. It's already happening, we see a lot of posts on these forums about abusive servers and people saying they won't play there again. It's basically asking for a free pass to admin abuse, yes, but how many people who AREN'T currently abusing their admin privileges are suddenly going to start doing so? Is the amount of people abusing their servers going to kill the DayZ community off? I highly doubt it. The hackers just might, though. As for the hackers; do you know why hacking is so widespread for this mod? Because it's so easy to do and get away with. Hackers know that they can hack the shit out of our servers and us admins can only sit back and watch, unable to do anything about it. A giant ban wave went out last week, how soon after that did the hackers start returning? They're running the exact same hacks, they just changed it up a bit and they're fooling BattlEye again. You know what's going to happen next time they get banned again? It's going to be silent for a day or two and then they're going to start trickling back in, hacking the shit out of servers. All I'm saying is set up a trial period. Let admins control their own servers and see how it goes. If it doesn't work out, reinstate the old rules and watch as hackers ruin the game for everyone again. How many other developers tell their server admins they're not allowed to do anything to prevent hackers? -

Fair enough. Allow us to set up 'whitelists' for our servers. Allow us to set up passwords and hand them to players who apply to play on our servers. If we can have even a bit of control over who plays on our servers, catching hackers will be easy as piss, if they even bother to come to the servers at all. Secondly, allow us to ban players we think are hacking/exploiting. If they really were banned unfairly, they could always still go and post up a ban appeal on the Ban Appeals forum. Yes, it's going to be abused, but no more than it already is. I understand I'm basically asking you to give a free pass to abusive admins, but here's the thing - those guys are being abusive assholes anyway. However, many of us are not, and it's ultimately going to be our servers that thrive in the end, because people are going to realise that certain servers have asshole admins and they simply won't play on them. I used to play twitch shooters like BF3 before getting into ArmA 2, and back then, the community simply did not play on servers where admins were being douchebags. Let the community police itself. At the very least, give the matter some thought and consideration, and maybe instate a trial period of, say, a week. See how it goes. If it doesn't work out, fine, then I'll shut up and stop moaning. I'm just really tired of having players on my server screwed over by asshole hackers all the time. Something needs to change.- 215 replies

I'm just pretty tired of having to spend hours scouring server logs to try and find suspicious scripts, and if I don't, our players can't play because the server is getting the shit hacked out of it. All because I keep getting threatened with the dreadful blacklist baton every time I suggest something that might help combat the problem. Something has got to give. It can't go on like this. Every time we ask the dev team for guidance or ways to improve the situation, we get met with either absolute silence from the devs, or smartass dick replies from people like Curgon telling us we're scumbags for even thinking of passwording the server. So the one solution we might have for reducing the effects of hacking is criticized and gets yelled down because 'erhmehgehrd admin aboose!' So what, we leave the hackers to just go on and ruin every server out there because some admins are going to abuse it? We fully understand that the situation is just as frustrating to the devs as it is to us. We know that you've got your hands full just developing the mod and keeping everything running, but understand where we're coming from as well. Sure, it's our choice to host the server, but it's still pretty shit that hackers are just being allowed to continue running rampant, and when admins discuss things to prevent it we get shouted down by not only the players, but also parts of the dev team? Honestly, I haven't seen a dev team with as little respect for the people hosting game servers for their mod as you guys. LOOK AT YOUR RULES AGAIN. They were set up back when the mod had no more than 20 000 players. You've got almost a million now. It's not possible to go by the same rules set up 4 months ago. -

Brok3n, did you search his body after he was killed? How do you know it was him? I run ZA1 and we've been aware that there's a local hacker about for a while now, so I'd like to ban the little shit if possible.

What would you rather have? A few asshole moderators ruining their own servers while an equal amount run by non-abusive admins are available to play on, or all servers being unplayable due to hackers? -
