    Playing with my friends

Most have [whitelist] or whitelisted in the description, which you can use in the in-game server filter or in DayZ Commander. I recommend Dayz Commander if you aren't already using it. The other thing you can do is browse a short list of servers in the private hive forum, which contains lots of details of the servers and instructions about how to get whitelisted (since each server has a different sign-up process). You can definitely join the Wireworld TeamSpeak and then use skype with your friends. But the Wireworld TS allows you to create your own temporary channel for you and your friends (and password it if you want to), so I would recommend that instead of using Skype, simply to free-up resources and simplify things.
  2. ✔ Hacking and such is not condoned in any way. Totally hacker free (as far as we know) for months ✔ Admins abusing powers is a no-go. One admin. He's over 40 years old and owns a gaming centre. Friendly, responsible and active. ✔ Killing players in any way is allowed Not if they are new spawns on the coast. Unarmed and north, yes. Armed and on coast, yes. ✔ No tags ✔ No bullet traces Dayz Commander shows tracers on for a few minutes after restart, but then it goes off. ✔ Private hive Pre-paid for at least another 6 months. X No third person You'll be very limited in your choice of servers if you want first-person only. ✔ No shift click marker on the map You can make a personal marker, but the waypoint system is disabled. ✔ No crosshair ✔ No deathmessages ✔ Chernarus ✔ Whitelist Bonuses: ✔ Server runs the latest v175 community beta (which means you need to download 3 PBO files). ✔ Teamspeak server is provided, and unlike most other servers, most people use it and team up with each other. The rule is: don't shoot the people in your TS channel, but everyone else is a legitimate target. ✔ Usually between 5-25 players - time to gear-up, repair vehicles, pitch tents and raid camps when it's not busy, and plenty of PvP when it is. If you want 40 players on all the time, which usually just results in constant deathmatching, then this server may be too quiet for you. The server is Wireworld EU (based in UK). Wireworld runs the very latest community beta patch. Follow the instructions in the above link - basically join the lobby and get kicked (this is so your player name and id is logged in the database), then email the address in the 'kick message' with your GUID, and finally download the latest beta (3 PBO files) from the link you're given. The details of the TS server are in the lobby message if you get stuck.

    Playing with my friends

If you use DayZ Commander to manage your favourite servers, you can add your friends to a buddy list and then see if they're online and which server they're on. However, once you're all on the same server, you'll need to use teamspeak to co-ordinate and meet-up. The advice I give to new players is to skip the public servers, and get straight onto a private whitelisted server. I can't believe I wasted so may weeks initially playing on the public hive where there is so much 'shooting-on-sight', clan banditry, hacking and mindless deathmatching in Electro/Cherno. The game can offer so much more. If you're in Europe, the Wireworld UK server I play on is great for noobs! We only usually have between 5-25 players on, so you have enough space and time to gear-up, repair vehicles and pitch some tents (and steal stuff from other people) during the quieter times, but you can easily find some PvP action during the busier times. Nearly everyone uses the server's teamspeak, so you can jump into a channel and join up with some players for the evening informally without having to join a clan, or just make a channel for you and your friends, and play against the rest of us. The rule is: don't shoot people in your own TS channel, but everyone else (except new spawns) is a legitimate target. Wireworld runs the very latest community beta patch. Follow the instructions in the above link - basically join the lobby and get kicked (this is so your player name and id is logged in the database), then email the address in the 'kick message' with your GUID, and finally download the latest beta (3 PBO files) from the link you're given. need group

The Wireworld EU server I play on is great for noobs! We only usually have between 5-25 players on, so you have enough space and time to gear-up, repair vehicles and pitch some tents (and steal from other people) during the quieter times, but you can easily find some PvP during the busier times. The good thing for lone players is that nearly everyone uses the server's teamspeak, so you can jump into a channel and join up with some players for the evening informally without having to join a clan. The next evening you might be playing with a different group, or by yourself - it all depends who is playing and what you feel like doing. The rule is: don't shoot people in your own TS channel, but everyone else (except new spawns) is a target. Small group?

I don't know if you guys are in Europe, or whether you're looking for a private server, but I can recommend Wireworld EU for individual players who are looking for informal groups to play with/against. You join the servers teamspeak, join a channel, gain people's trust, and then start playing with them regularly once they know you. The groups change depending who's online and who you become most friendly with. The number of players ranges from 5 to 25 (although recently there's only been about 15 due to Xmas), so there a quiet periods in which you can gear-up, repair vehicles and steal from camps, and times when there is enough players for some PvP. The server hasn't had hackers on it for months, and the admin is responsible, friendly and proactive. 6. I find that most issues involving the loading screen are connected to running an outdated Arma version. For troubleshooting, ensure you have the same version as the server you're playing on, and then see if you still have loading problems and can crash it: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

    ALT+F4ing after death

The server I play on is using the very latest v175 patches. Our community is quite small and almost everyone uses our TS. So when we've seen bodies sink into the ground, we've been able to change TS channel and find out who it was and what happened. It appears that it is not happening as maliciously as you may think. People are simply seeing the death screen, and if they abort in the normal manner too quickly then sometimes their body disappears. We've also had instances where people have come into a TS channel asking why their body was hidden, and it transpires that no-one did hide the body. So we have to assume the same thing happened - aborting too quickly made their body disappear, and they can't recover their own gear.

    Remove Teamspeak.

Silly suggestion. The in-game chat is only good for saying 'Don't turn around or I'll shoot you'. As stated before: Teamspeak approximates walkie-talkie radio. If you can't be arsed to get yourself into the server's teamspeak (most good private hive servers provide one) and co-op with other people then you deserve to be at some disadvantage. You know, 95% of people are very SOCIAL animals. Whilst you're roaming around the woods silent and alone, they're having a lot of FUN on teamspeak. I sometimes even listen in on my group's Teamspeak channel whilst working and not in-game, because the shenanigans and crack can be very entertaining. People aren't using Teamspeak to conspire and cheat - it's because TS makes playing games more fun and social.
  9. Another thing to consider is that I play at 9-14 fps, and many more players are obtaining under 24 fps. This is difficult at the best of times, but nearly impossible if forced to permanently use first person. So this suggestion can be relegated to the trash-can as far as I'm concerned. As already stated, join a first-person server or start your own.

    WOAH CLICK THIS!

If you get fed up of being hacked and spawn-killed on the public servers, you and anyone else you're playing with would be welcome on the Wireworld EU private, whitelisted server. It's running the very latest community-driven v175 patches. Usually it has between 5-25 players, which means you get a good balance between scavenging, survival, building bases and repairing vehicles when it's not so busy, and then some nice PvP action when it has more players. There is a good mix of new players and experts, and an age range from early twenties upwards (there are a couple of regular teens, but they behave very well). Teamspeak is provided and, unlike most servers, the majority of players are on TS - that's where the community is. You can usually join any channel and team up with them for the night without having to create a formal group or clan. Although of course you'll probably have to earn some trust first, by being on the TS a few times and getting to know people. The admin, Mac, is active and helpful. I can't believe I wasted so many weeks on public servers, simply accepting the shooting-on-sight and hacking - it doesn't need to be like that. Even if Wireworld doesn't appeal to you, my advice for new players is to skip the public hive, try three private servers you like the sound of, and eventually choose the one that suits you the best.
  11. I know the problem - I played alone for weeks without a mic and it got quite lonely at times. Also, I tended to keep missing all the action. You don't need to join a formal group/clan though. For example, I play on the Wireworld EU server which also provides a Teamspeak. Unlike other servers I've played on, most of the Wireworld players group together on Teamspeak in informal groups. The rule seems to be, don't kill people in your TS channel, but everyone else is fair game (although Bambi-killing on the coast is frowned upon). The teams change quite often, and you'll find yourself running with different people on different nights doing different 'missions'. Last night I ran with a group that had a chopper, and got an ATV out of it. So tonight I'll see if anyone wants to join me for some heli crash-site hunting to get some guns to put into it, and who knows - I might be playing against the chopper guys this time. The age range is generally early 20's up to about 50, although there a couple of teens on there too. The Admin owns a gaming centre, so sometimes there are kids on from 'the shop', but they behave themselves very well. There's been no real duping/hacking issues in the last few months; certainly no teleporting, genocide or taking control of players' bodies. The only real problem is in getting 15-30 players online consistently (which is the optimum range for Chernarus in my opinion). If you're looking for a good private hive server, running the very latest betas, I'd give Wireworld a try. 12. Have a good Xmas. Here's some special festive (and somewhat X-rated) beans for you, Mac! PS: Lol. Usually that's a quiet spot. I've had vehicles last a week or two there. I wonder what you were doing... maybe you've got a tent nearby? I'll have to investigate! The van 'came back to me' yesterday morning still full of guns, after circulating through several players! I just dumped it by the side of the road again when I ran out of fuel. As you said, easy come, easy go (except range finders, ghillies, DMRs and choppers)!
  13. Dayzo

Completly new to DayZ. Any tips? :)

Numbers of players are very important. If you're mostly looking for PvP (player versus player), and want to gear up mostly by killing/stealing from other players, then the server should have 25-45 players. With that many players, tents usually only last a day or two before being found, and vehicles change hands very rapidly. So really the game is about rampaging around on the map shooting whoever you see for whatever they've got. Over 45 players, and it tends to just become death-matching. For me, the game loses a lot of tension if I know that players are very likely to in my vicinity wherever I am on the map. If you want a slower game - a chance to scavenge, build a couple of little bases, repair a couple of vehicles and manage to keep them for a week or more - then try to choose a server with a constant 10-25 players. This will still give you a fair chance of encounters in 'hotspots' like the cities and airfields and some rarer encounters in the forests, whilst allowing you space to roam around collecting loot and looking for heli-crashes. I love not knowing when or where I'll meet another player, and get a real shot of adrenaline when I suddenly see someone completely unexpectedly. Personally I prefer this style of play, and have had some great times on Wireworld EU recently, especially since almost everyone is on the Wireworld Teamspeak so you get to know all the players you are fighting against. It'll probably be a bit dead the next few days for obvious reasons, but will hopefully pick up again after Xmas. If a server has consistently under 10 players, once you've done enough scavenging and vehicle repairs, the game gets a bit boring. NB: Wireworld runs the very latest community beta patch.
  14. The last two v175 patches have had much harder zombies and many more of them; the players on our server (Wireworld EU) unanimously thought it spoilt the game play (survivors and PvPer's alike). However, in the patch released just last night, it seems to be a little more balanced again. Personally I like how you spawn zombies whilst in a vehicle and the increased spawn distance (seems to be @ 350m). I also like the more random patterns and the 'waves' of zombie spawning - it's good not being so sure if someone else is at the village you've just entered. I don't mind the increased risk of infection as long as antibiotics are as abundant as painkillers (which they are in the latest patch). Some aspects are still annoying though: There is a fine balance between aggravating the zombies and being able to lose them again. It's also very frustrating when they're hitting you from 10m away and even swiping in the wrong direction. If zombies break vehicle glass before dragging you out, then the chopper fuel leaks due to broken glass MUST be fixed (or glass should be far more abundant). Also, hitting a single zombie in a car should never break a wheel and force you to abandon the vehicle. What the devs probably need is a lot more servers running the latest v175 patches and more feedback from players, although their ability to get zombies 'just right' is probably severely hampered by the limitations of the Arma engine.

    DayZ "Endgame"

This is one reason why I play on a private hive (Wireworld EU) - it doesn't make much sense to maintain tents or vehicles when they're spread across several public hive servers. I'd rather pick one great server, free of hackers and stupidity, and stick to it. Whilst I mostly play alone, I'm always on the Wireworld Teamspeak talking to the other guys. Whenever I want I can join them for a mission, whether it be a rescue/medical emergency, repairing a vehicle, a chopper run looking for heli-crashes, hunting other players, messing about in the bi-plane (v175), etc. Or I can tell them that tonight I'm playing against them and make my own channel. There's only so much of a 'survival' aspect to the game for a lone player (although the zombies in the latest 175 beta are insane at the moment!). I'd encourage you to find a server with a Teamspeak and get to know some of the other players. For moments when you want to play solo, you can always mute it. You're welcome to try Wireworld! I'll help you get geared up again.
  16. The doubt used to bother me too. The only way is to get on a server where you are nearly 100% sure there are no hackers. Not all private hives are created equally though. I recommend Wireworld (EU server) especially if you like lower population servers and survival tactics. Note that Wireworld runs the very latest community beta patch. With 5-10 players on the server you can gear up and repair vehicles in hotspots knowing there is a small but significant risk of an encounter with someone, which should keep you on edge. Encounters are still possible in remote areas, but because they're rarer and more unexpected they can really get the adrenalin pumping. With 10-20 players on the server, gearing-up and maintaining your tents/vehicles obviously becomes more dangerous, but it's still possible. 20-25 players becomes more PvP orientated; time to leave your camp and go hunting! Wireworld tends to fluctuate between these amounts of players, so you have some quiet times to collect gear and repair vehicles, and some busier times when you can scout and kill players (or be killed!). I've tried the busy servers with 30-60 players, and really they don't have much survival aspect to them at all, just mostly death-matching. Once you know you're not just being teleported to by hackers, the only thing you can do is try not to break cover often.
  17. EDIT: This response was to user 'Carrt', who subsequently deleted his post and changed his name to tsd56ae. That says a lot in itself. Except that no-one has actually been banned for that though. You're speaking as though this is something that already happens, when in fact Mac only put on a server message suggesting that in 2013, the policy will be changed and players who don't log-in to the TS server may be banned. The entire reason for this is because side-chat is off, and so TS is the best way to create a community on the server. If clans play using their own TS server, or if single players don't use TS, then we never really get to know them or speak to them, and the opportunity for some extra fun, co-op and rivalry is missed. The only accusation you can make is that the server message was too heavy handed, but it's just something Mac is trying out to attempt to improve the DayZ experience. I started out without a mic, and now I wouldn't play without one. The threat regarding changing your TS name (not your game name, as you suggested) is in response to a few players who thought it was fun to join the TS channel of the group they were playing against and listen to their plans and locations. Usually the group would just create a new channel and password it to get rid of them. But spy from now on and you'll be banned, which is fair enough. I can't understand why you wouldn't agree with that, unless it was you spying? If this is the incident I'm thinking of (the firefight involving a ural, UH 1H, and a couple of tents, up by Olsha), after your group was killed, the opposing players ran to where your bodies fell, and there were two or three M107s just on the ground in a pile. That's what was reported to the admin, because it looked like they had been spawned in during the firefight after you parachuted to the ground. I think that was fair enough, and I think you would report something like that too. Wrong - little kiddies combat log. Your friend's cowardly behaviour denied us a legitimate kill, wasted 20 minutes of our time, and got one of our team killed. There is nothing wrong with demanding mature, fair behaviour from the players on the server. Combat logging is simply not tolerated. Compared to most other servers it is largely safe from hackers *and* immature behaviour. It's the high standards of play make this server stand-out. See Mac's post above. He's asked for your help to repeal the allegations, but apparently you have done nothing to toward that. Also, you're confusing 'sympathy' and 'trust'. Mac trusts some of us because he talks to us every night and has seen us play for months. So when we say we think we've seen something strange, of course it's going to carry some weight. Totally wrong. That ural with all the guns had been through at least four players/groups within a week, including myself - I managed to keep it for three days, then another pair had it for two before you found it. No-one cared about it, or cared losing it. Easy come, easy go. No-one even knew that you had both choppers and they probably would have been stolen from you within days anyway, since they usually change hands very rapidy. That's not why you were banned though, was it? The reality is that some players saw something suspicious and reported it. That's really the end of the story. If you think Mac has made a mistake and you want back on the server, then try talking to him about it. Your post might actually get us some new players, since all you seem to be complaining about are our high standards and active admin!
  18. The crash-site locations and loot is chosen randomly on restart, and it is all generated before the players join. The number of crash sites is specified in the server config. Only the crash-site zombies are spawned afterwards, whenever a player comes near.
  19. My Arma profile is just my first name. 1) The BMRF forums won't let me join with that name, so I registered with another name. So do I have to change my Arma profile to match the forum name? 2) I haven't been asked for a player ID or GUID. The only info given so far that could be used for the whitelist is the profile name. Have I missed something? How can you whitelist without proper, identifying information?
  20. If you update to at least Arma beta 99515, I think it fixes the bug you're referring to.
  21. Yep... the changelog says: 'Zeds hearing should now be fixed'. That's an understatement! The numbers of zombies have doubled around deer-stands and crash-sites too. It seems like body shots have much less effect. They seem to be breaking a lot of bones with first hits, and doing more blood damage. Also, there's the vehicle damage now - breaking your windows and pulling you out of the car. So all in all, zombies have become a threat rather than just an annoyance.
  22. I don't have steam, but I'll tell you what I do: · My game is in c://program files(x86)/bohemia interactive/arma2/ · I copy the @dayz folder and call it @dayz175 · I unzip the rar update and copy the files into the /@dayz175/addons/ folder. · If I want to play on a v1.7.4.4 server, Dayz Commander points to my @dayz folder by default. · For a v1.7.5 server, in Dayz Commander settings I override the game directory by typing '175' at the end of the path. · When all servers are on v1.7.5, I'll delete the original @dayz folder, rename the @dayz175 folder, and disable the override. You can probably do the same thing with steam, except the path you need to use will be something like: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead\@DayZ\ EDIT: reading your post below, I realise now that you had downloaded the server files from github, whereas I thought you had downloaded the client files from the link in the Wireworld teamspeak. When you get the wireworld rar file you can follow the instructions in this post.
  23. They break the glass in vehicles now. Does anyone know how this impacts re-fuelling a chopper? Do the choppers still leak fuel when the glass is broken? If so, that totally sucks.
  24. Just tried that one on your recommendation, since it was the busiest one. No white-list! The five minutes I was there was the worst DayZ experience I've ever had, even compared to the infested public hive a few months ago. I have no idea why so many people choose to play on such chaotic, unmanaged servers. DayZ can be so, so, so much better than that. I cannot stress this enough. If you want more out of DayZ than mindless deathmatching (which doesn't even work well in the Arma game IMO), then look for a private whitelisted server with a consistent 15-25 players online at peak times, and who provide a teamspeak server. Although it's a bit quieter at the moment because a couple of the larger groups have recently stopped playing DayZ, I thoroughly recommend the WIREWORLD server and would love to see a couple of dozen new faces on there. No website registration. Just join the server, wait to get kicked, and then email to the address you're given in the server message. Read the thread for more details.
  25. That might be true for the choppers you've had, the server you play on, and/or the version you play on. But it isn't universally true for v1.7.4.4 and before. The server I play on has always been bang up-to-date with all versions of Arma and DayZ, and as far as I know all choppers leak due to broken glass, no matter how many times they've been repaired already. I don't know if windscreen leaking has been changed for v1.7.5 - it isn't in the changelog. My comment was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. But I do feel that it was hard enough and dangerous enough to refuel a chopper already, considering you have to make yourself very vulnerable for twenty minutes, and that one shot from another player during refuelling or flight meant you had to go on a precarious mission to replace a windscreen before you could log off without losing all your fuel overnight. If the windscreen leaking is the same in v1.7.5, then having a zombie cause untold damage to half your windscreens in the space of ten seconds is a bit much in my opinion, especially when it takes a couple of dangerous hours to obtain replacements from a factory hotspot, and considering none of the other vehicles have the same problem.
