Thinking of starting a hero group ( UK )
Dayzo replied to vDarkStar's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
We need a group of heroes on the WIREWORLD UK server! It's a great server (see signature), and it sounds like you would fit very well into the Wireworld community. If you want to try recruiting in our Teamspeak, some of our existing players might join you for hero missions. We had a medic with his own TS channel, and he was called upon quite a lot; you could try the same sort of thing for your Hero group. It's a vanilla server, the only changes are: · AS50 and m107 removed. · 42 vehicles (default is 35). · Tents last 999 days after death (default is 3), so your camps are permanent. · Night vision chance has been increased at heli-crash sites. -
Just thought I'd post a reply in case it offers you an alternative to formally joining a clan/group. I'm probably much like you, in that I like to play solo and casually, but would like the opportunity to hook up with other players when the interest takes me. I find the WIREWORLD UK private server excellent for this because they strongly encourage teamspeak and have high standards of player behaviour. Unlike most of the private hives I've tried, people actually talk to each other in teamspeak and so informal alliances often occur. Everyone gets to knw each other a bit. Once you're known on the server, you can join up with one group to repair a chopper one night, and go looking for a firefight with another group a few days later. There are a variety of game styles on Wireworld - DayZ as it's meant to be played, not just deathmatching in Cherno. It's mostly mature players too, ranging from late teens to beyond middle age. It's a vanilla server; the only changes are: · AS50 and m107 removed. · 42 vehicles (default is 35). · Tents last 999 days after death (default is 3), so your camps are permanent. · Night vision chance has been increased at heli-crash sites. · Full moon is currently switched on to encourage night play. Clans and solo players are welcome.

Sounds to me like you have nothing against private hives per se, but want to play vanilla DayZ instead of heavily modified. The WIREWORLD UK server in my signature is almost vanilla, and there is a good balance of play styles - DayZ as it was meant to be played. The only changes are: · AS50 and m107 removed. · 42 vehicles (default is 35). · Tents last 999 days after death (default is 3), so your camps are permanent. · Night vision chance has been increased at heli-crash sites. · Full moon is currently on every night to encourage night-time play. In addition: · JSRS soundmod v1.4 allowed. · Teamspeak is strongly encouraged.

People seeing my vehicle on the Map.
Dayzo replied to Dekkymane's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If the server had 30+ people online, it is quite possible that you were seen/followed, especially if you drove through forest to get to your camp. However, the problem is not knowing if it was legitimately found or not. I hated that feeling of uncertainty on public servers every time I died or something strange happened. Once I joined a GOOD private hive, the suspicion and frustration melted away, and it was like playing a different game. In the past we've regularly had 45 players on the WIREWORLD server, and NO hackers. The number of players are down at the moment (20 online last night), so if anyone wants to give WIREWORLD UK a shot, check out my signature. -

Yesterday I witnessed a guy getting eaten about 300m away, and he had a Czech backpack that I wanted. Since his body was in the open, I dropped my backpack in the trees. I could see it laying on the ground. Then I ran to him, took the Czech, and ran back to cover. But when I returned, my backpack was gone. I haven't seen the 'disappearing backpack' bug for a long time, and usually it disappears immediately, whereas mine was definitely on the ground for at least ten seconds. Was it a bug, a 'clean up' script running, or a game mechanic? If it was a game mechanic, does anyone know the rules for leaving stuff on the ground? Thanks. -
Can anyone explain the game mechanics for when, for example, you leave stuff on the ground, do some looting, and then return to your dropped equipment? Sometimes it disappears and sometimes it doesn't, and it's maddening. Today I saw a body with a Czech backpack, laying on an ATC after being mauled by zombies. I dropped my own backpack and ran about 300m to the body, quickly put on the Czech and ran back to cover. But my own had despawned when I returned, taking all my stuff with it and leaving me with an empty Czech. However, in the past I remember running for kilometres and hours away from dropped equipment, and yet it would sometimes still be there when I got back. Cheers.

RIP GB Wireworld Vanilla DayZ Server - It was a lot of fun!
Dayzo replied to wireworld's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yep, only five players online. The server population does come and go in small waves. The last time it went down to 5 players in the evenings, I started replying to posts in the forums where people were looking for groups/clans or good servers. Not spamming, but making helpful replies. I also started a couple of polemic threads about the development of v176, and tried to make people aware that they could test the beta on Mac's server. By the time I had done about 15 posts, within a couple of weeks the server was up to 35-40 players per night. That could have just been coincidental, but it might be worth pro-actively advertising the server again anyway, to see if we can get numbers back up. I'll make a start: looking-for-groupclan (post #4) what-happened-to-dayz (post #4) people-seeing-my-vehicle-on-the-map (post #8) looking-for-a-team (post #7) thinking-of-starting-a-hero-group-uk (post #4) is-using-teamspeak-cheating (post #121) longest-gone-without-seeing-a-player (post #6) looking-for-server (post #2) cant-enter-a-server-bad-version (post #5) I'd encourage other Wireworld players to do this if you want to see numbers rise. Remember: helpful posts - don't spam. Papa also set-up a 'fast track' whitelisting post which you can link to. Edit: I noticed shortly after your post Infy, that there were 18 regulars on. That's not too bad. -
You guys are welcome to try the Wireworld UK server. There are four small clans on it at the moment, and a few solo players. You can make your own pair/group, or get to know the other players and join one of the clans, as formally or informally as you like. Up until recently we have had 35-45 players on every night, but just over Easter we've dropped numbers for various reasons. We're starting to advertise the server again, so hopefully in a couple of weeks the numbers will become stronger. Teamspeak is heavily encouraged, so most players use it. There are three mature admins dealing the best they can with players' issues. Tents on the server stay for 999 days after your death (the default is 3 days) so your camps are fairly permanent. There are 42 vehicles on the server. Night vision chance has been increased at heli-crash sites. Full moon is switched on quite a lot to encourage players to play late into the night. AS50 and M107 have been removed. In most other respects it is a vanilla server. We are running v1.7.7 at the moment (before anyone else has it, I believe). So you'll have to download some PBO files until the public release. More information in this thread.

I was going to invite you onto the server I play on, but I don't think our side chat could take the strain.

Mac, remember you can edit the title of the thread to reflect the above changes, by editing the first post in the full editor. People might join to play v177 a bit early, and having the version in the title might catch their eye. Personally I'd remove the 'test server' part, since we haven't really been doing that for a while. As far as I understand it, from what you've said, the v177 we've now got is the public release anyway, just earlier. -

Server's busy again tonight after a few quiet days, and there appears to be nine brand new players online at the moment. Great to see new blood (hopefully literally)! -

Vehicles and tents returned after the next restart. Not sure if any admin intervention was necessary, but the server doesn't appear to have been rolled back. -

Still got the NVG and DMR. It's the tents and vehicles that did not spawn in. I've seen this happen before, months ago, on much earlier versions of the mod. Sometimes the tents/vehicles sometimes came back after another restart. But I bet Mac has to roll back the server to an earlier time and I start off back at the coast again, without the NVG and DMR! You're a good player though. I'm not. It takes me weeks to accumulate what you get in a few hours. Which is why I spend so much time setting myself up with spares of everything and try to avoid dangerous situations. -

... so after Chris' encouraging words, I logged in last night, got some starter gear from one of my five tents and went to bed. This morning I logged on again, visited another of my tents, then quickly found a crash-site and got a DMR and some night vision ten minutes before server restart. I was thinking, maybe this isn't such a bad game after all. After restart, I went to put the DMR in a tent, but they're all gone! Hubert said the NWA tents and vehicles have disappeared too. Hopefully they'll return on the next restart (Tuesday afternoon)!? If not, I'm definitely done with this stupid mod! -

I think the main thing is that the game dynamics have changed. Tactics which used to work for me, and were enjoyable, aren't as rewarding or efficient as they used to be, and I haven't really found a new approach that I enjoy. It's also maddening that I've lost much, much more gear to database wipes and glitches than by being shot at; there just doesn't seem to be any point in trying to be a scavenger/survivor any more. The problem for me is that I only get an adrenaline rush when I come across players unexpectedly after a period of quiet monotony. If I jump in a car with some guys and actively go looking for players in the usual hot spots, then I may as well be playing America's Army - I just don't get the same thrill from doing that. I also then regret recklessly losing my gear (because I usually die during PvP). But you're right - sneaking around covertly has also become extremely dull since v175, even when the server was busy. Apart from all that, I've got real-life pressures which make me doubt whether I should be spending any of my spare time so frivolously anyway. I've only been playing 30 minutes every other night recently - it's only because of the Easter holiday that I was able to put in some more hours; it's just a pity that I didn't enjoy them much. -

No idea. Recent fall-outs? Easter holidays? Arma III? Since no-one was on late this evening I went looking for tents/vehicles again. Just like last night, I didn't find anything. Except after three hours running around North and West I saw a hatchback near Lopatino. I got in to check the gear - nothing in it. I got out and the tree killed me. >:( I'm really not enjoying DayZ much any more, and don't know whether I can be bothered to gear-up again after such a stupid death. I've got some guns in a tent, but the thought of trying to get NVGs, matches, compass and ghillie again... no thanks. The devs have made the loot spawns too crappy and the crash-sites too hard to find; it's too much hard-work now to get good gear. I've got far better things to do with my time than loot-cycle for three hours, and not even get a tent, compass or matches. Maybe the server is less full because v1761 is too difficult and not as fun as it used to be? Or maybe I just don't have any patience left. I noticed 700 servers have shut-down in the last few weeks though. -
Yep... it sucks. Unfortunately, the majority don't even bother to use the meat mechanic (and the devs are in that majority) because they play in pairs/teams and never have to seriously get blood from food as a matter of life and death. But take away their little bloodbags for a week and you'd have to roll-out a full fleet of Wambulances. The other major issue that is really getting to me these days is the fact that, if a team of three players approach a building, three times as much loot spawns than when a single player triggers it. It is SO much easier to scavenge/loot-cycle when you're in a group, especially as one or two of you can keep watch whilst one or two clears the loot.

Oh BTW, could the clans pitch more tents and fill them full of guns and NVGs, please. I ran around in the woods for a couple of hours yesterday and didn't find anything. I am very disappoint. -

I'm not sure how often the admins look at the database - I hope only when they're trying to fix a character or a spawn issue. However, I'm quite confident that they don't have the type of 'backend' GUI that some server hosts provide, which allows you to see the positions and movements of all the players, vehicles and tents. They are only able to look at the raw SQL database tables as far as I know, which are quite difficult to use for cheating purposes. Basically on any server, it comes down to trusting the admins. If you don't trust them, then the only option open to you is to find another server. I will say this though... I've played alone for the last six months on Wireworld. I don't have an affiliation to anyone and have 'hooked up' from time to time with many different groups throughout that period to relieve the loneliness and boredom which comes with playing alone. Very often (if a group lets me), I'll just sit in a TS channel simply listening to them play whilst mostly doing my own thing. The current admins have also been on the server all that time too, and I've spent over 200 hours in various TS channels with them. In my experience they have a lot of fun and are as fair as you can be in this glitchy game. They usually try to play DayZ as it is supposed to be played - repairing vehicles, pitching tents, collecting gear, using all of the map - not just ambushing people at hotspots (although they do a lot of that too). Their kill/death ratios are within normal bounds, considering they are experienced PvP players. I trust these admins to try to do the right thing. I also acknowledge that issues are rarely black and white, and that their decisions cannot please everyone. I don't expect the admins to spend hours pouring through logs or interviewing players for their sides of the story. If an issue can't be verified in fifteen minutes, then they just have to go with their gut feeling which may be biased or even plain wrong. But I'm absolutely certain that it's not deliberate or malicious, which is one reason why this is my favourite server. -

Hold on. So shooting a pack can cause death? I thought they combusted after the person was dead anyway? Mac said a new patch was imminent, so hopefully I won't get shot in the pack before then. -

I used the JSRS v1.4 soundmod yesterday. I searched for the following files within the mod: jsrs_environment_c.pbo jsrs_movement_c.pbo jsrs_environment_c.pbo.jsrs14v2.bisign jsrs_movement_c.pbo.jsrs14v2.bisign ... and I appended them with .ignore (effectively removing them from the mod without deleting them, so I can easily restore them). For instance, I edited the first one to: jsrs_environment_c.pbo.ignore These files are just configuration files (note the 'c' in the file name). The actual JSRS 'movement' and 'environment' pbo files exist untouched, which is why signature-checking will still function correctly. Since the name of the config files has been changed, they simply aren't utilised, so the game defaults to the original sounds. You should be left with just the new guns and explosions, but all other sounds will be the default ones. There is an issue with thrown objects (Eg cans) making loud explosion noises. You can remove all JSRS explosions by appending the following file names (as described above): jsrs_explosions_c.pbo jsrs_explosions_c.pbo.jsrs14v2.bisign As Papa stated, there are three error dialogues when you start up the game (I think because this version of JSRS was not designed to be played with the beta version of Arma that we are using). But these errors occur before you enter the game - they should not produce any server-side signature errors once you're playing. Not errors like Mat10112 had yesterday, referring to 'soundmissons_e.pb'. Nor the 'plant' file errors like Sgt Whiskey had yesterday. Nor the errors that Klonoalunar and several others had the day before that I didn't write down. As far as I'm concerned, until I'm advised otherwise by someone more knowledgeable, PBO files never have to be touched. Players getting these errors have been cheating, and are only recently getting caught because signature checking has been enabled. I suggest banning anyone who throws up a PBO error from now on. I'm going to start screen-shotting the errors for this purpose; they'll be posted into this thread and the admins can decide what they want to do with the information. -

PBO Errors Can anyone tell me why I see so many people trying to join with PBO signature errors? They make several attempts to join and get kicked every time, but then later on in the day I see them playing. Is there a legitimate reason why some people are having to 'mess around' with their PBO files? I haven't had any errors of that nature, so the only conclusion I can come up with is that they are editing their files to cheat. Should we be submitting names for the ban hammer? -

Search and Destroy A handful of volunteers drive around in Urals (or smaller vehicles if you think Urals are too easy to spot). One rule: they must keep moving, except to refuel. Huey teams (one pilot and two gunners) try to locate and destroy the vehicles. If a vehicle is destroyed by bad driving whilst being pursued/fired upon, it counts as a kill. Straight after a kill, a member of the Huey team joins the Ural TS channel and gives their team name and the co-ordinates/location to confirm it as theirs. Hueys can attack each other. However, shooting other choppers will not directly help you to win the match. Indirectly it may help, since you may be shooting down a team who has more Ural kills than yours, and you're lessening the amount of competition. Nice idea, but I've no clue how it would work out in practice - I've never tried to find and destroy a moving vehicle from a Huey. Also, I'm not sure how many people would want to take a turn of being a moving target. -

Because after I died I talked to the group asking if they had shot me, and they kindly told me where they were and what they were doing. When I told them about the tent, they said it was most likely theirs. Entirely possible. In which case I can't believe I'm so unlucky at this damn game!
