Is server hopping actually illegal?

Sure it does, but it's almost always wrong! -
Is server hopping actually illegal?
Dayzo replied to grimsonfart's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
So what are the 'triggers', 'patterns' or 'logic' that determine a 'server hop'? When starting to play, I go through quite a few servers looking for daytime and good weather (rain makes my fps unplayable). I'll typically connect and disconnect to about five or six servers in quick succession. I've never had an indication that the game has thought I've 'hopped'. -
Credit to those who play without a microphone
Dayzo replied to Sula's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You're an idiot then, if you can't imagine someone playing on a laptop with headphones in their living room, with their wife watching TV in the same room and a baby sleeping on the other side of a thin wall. In fact I've got a mic right here beside me for when my friends/family skype me during the day, but I just can't speak while playing. And where do you get off calling people lazy. By the time I've finished work and fulfilled all the responsibilities towards my family it's 9pm, and I've got two hours to myself. If I've had a shitty day, I'll unwind with DayZ for an hour. If I've got enough strength and motivation left, I'll spend that time on a web project to try to earn extra cash. Nope, definitely not laziness. -
Thanks for all the replies. What 'kind' of server should I look out for? Eg. USA? High population? Recruit/Regular/Vet settings? How often it restarts? Seriously, there are no tents/camps on the servers I've been going to.

> Seriously, if you get hit by zombies, you're just really bad. Perhaps! I'm certainly not a gamer - I don't play any other games at all. I got Arma II a couple of months ago, and tried the single player campaign, but it was frustrating as much as enjoyable. So I tried DayZ for the last month or so, for about 10 hours a week. Yeah, it could be that I'm just a terrible player! It might also be because I'm playing at 10-15 fps in the city. It's hard to see where you're running and pointing. I get 18-24 fps in the country, and find it quite a bit easier by comparison. I've been extremely careful with my lives so far, trying to maximise survival aspect of the game. I also don't use external loot maps while playing; I have a look before a session to make a plan, then go by memory. So maybe when this character is done, I should use the next few lives to run through the cities and practise losing zombies.

F**k me. Something like that would cost 1700$ where I live. I hope you guys in Britain and USA realise how good you have it when it comes to electronics.

> Are you saying you're 40 hours in the game, and you're still scared of zombies? I play alone, so without anyone to apply bloodbags the injuries quickly add-up unless you have a hatchet, matches and hunting knife to eat cooked meat. And the knife is really hard to find (or maybe I've just been extremely unlucky). Nearly all of those 40 hours have been out in the forests, looking for deer stands, tents, bikes and crash sites, so I'm not sure of city tactics at all. Seems to me like it would be very difficult not to get injured if you didn't prone through the city!? Is there a video tutorial of someone running through the city, showing how to lose the zombies and avoid being injured?

> Sprint carefree through the city, stealth approaches aren't worth the time if you've got nothing to lose. So do all you guys mean you literally run through Cherno with fifty zombies chasing you? Even if you don't have a hatchet yet? Do any of you go on night servers to gear up? I try to catch dawn/dusk, but the server always has the time wrong.

I can't work out why the player column has green and grey coloured entries? There doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern. Thanks.

dayz commander: grey/green player column
Dayzo replied to Dayzo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I first thought that it indicated three or less players, but I've seen seven or more players as grey too. Maybe it was a bug in an earlier version. I can't see any greater than three right now. Thanks. -
Try setting the 'interface resolution' to 1920x1080, the '3d resolution' to 960x540, and the aspect ration to 4:3. Although full screen, the result is quite pixelated though. I actually prefer playing with both settings at 800x600 and having the black bars at the side - it gives me the least pixelation at low resolution. The difference between playing high and low resolution is the difference between 20-24fps (low) and 12-15fps (high) for me, which is the difference between 'just playable' and 'unplayable'.

When you are looking for extra loot piles that might be buried under the helicopter, does the 'gear' icon still display when you hover over it? Or do you have to guess the position and press 'G' to reveal the hidden loot? How far away can the furthest loot pile be? Or are they all right next to the helicopter?

I just found a heli crash site, where I picked up camo clothing and an FN FAL AN/PVS-4. Then I headed off into the woods and killed a cow and cooked the meat. At that point I noticed that my debug monitor showed no kills and only 300 humanity points. Whereas ten or twenty minutes previously it showed my zombie kills and headshots, and 2500 humanity points. Does the debug monitor get reset often? Are there known triggers? Thanks.

Remove livestock/animals/raw meat from the game
Dayzo replied to porkyham's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'll clarify then - I think that most snipers (and deathmatchers) do not walk around the map after spawning to gear-up 'fairly' or 'naturally'. I think most have tents on private/empty servers to gear-up, and then they server hop onto populated servers. If they get killed, they can be back in their favourite sniping spot within ten or fifteen minutes. Some don't even bother with tents, and just spawn their gear with a hack and then teleport to their favourite spot. How is that NOT an accurate description of what's currently going on? -
Remove livestock/animals/raw meat from the game
Dayzo replied to porkyham's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think most of them either server farm or hack-spawn their gear, or have tents set-up on the server and dupe their stuff. Most couldn't care less about the length of their character's life, or how much equipment they lose when killed. However, I camp in the country and avoid other players as much as possible. Since tinned food is very scarce in villages, hunting is the main way I can recover from injuries and hunger. Take away that, and you'd be forcing me to go to larger towns and cities to be sniped by a brain-dead ten year old an elite highly skilled player. I don't mind if the energy level of cooked food, or the number of steaks you can get from a large animal, is lowered a bit. But it would be a shame to get rid of hunting altogether, and make the game even shittier for survival gameplay. -
How do you get a password from a private server? Do you have to join a clan?
-
Does anyone know if the standalone will have a monthly fee, or will it be a one-off purchase? Just thinking that if they're supplying the 'hive' server, they'll probably use a subscription model?

It's a bandit headscarf, reintroduced in the last patch. It means that your 'humanity' score is low, and that you've been marked as a bandit. It's so that when friendly people see you, they know that it is probably a bad idea to approach you and expect help or co-op.

Reduce the amount of zombies in remote towns?
Dayzo replied to SerbPrototype's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yep... counted 32 zombies in a small village last night, for a handful of low level residential loot. And you can't thin it out, because they just keep respawning too fast. Apart from that, what I'd like to see is some empty loot spots placed in forests around the map, so one or two zombies appear in the woods occasionally. If they could be randomised like the heli crash spawns, even better. -
1) When you get about 300m away from a loot point, zombies spawn. Does the loot spawn at the exact same time as the zombies, or a few minutes later? 2) If you get a gun at a deerstand, and use it to shoot the initial zombies that spawned around it, do they just keep respawning, or can you clear the area for a while? If they do respawn, is it immediate, or is it slow enough that you could temporarily clear a farm/village? 3) I found my first heli crash tonight and got an FN FAL. Afterwards I went up into the woods about 300m, and logged off because it was time to sleep. If I got onto the same server tomorrow evening, will the heli site still be there? Will different loot spawn as I approach? Also, is there a small chance that the heli crash be in the same place if I join a different server, or are they randomly placed on each server restart? Thanks.

Gear doesn't stay when changing servers
Dayzo replied to iitstrue's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
When you abort, ensure that you've not dropped or picked anything in the last five minutes. I usually spend the last five minutes of each session getting to a safe place to respawn for the next time I play. -
Being in a forest when it's moonlit/dawn/dusk really creeps me out. I wish there was a low chance of a zombie or two spawning randomly within 50-100m of you when in forests and fields, to complete the effect.

Everything will get a bit better once the kids are back at school in Sept. And will improve even more when the next popular, brain-dead FPS is released at xmas.

i dont know iff my specs are good enough? help?
Dayzo replied to jaykay's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
No. It may 'run', but you won't enjoy the low frame rate or poor graphics that you'll get. -
It's pointless trying to play 'survival' until hacking and duping become rare events.
