If I were you, I'd completely skip playing on the public hive servers. They are no fun whatsoever due to the hacks people use to track players and objetcs, teleport around the map, and spawn weapons/vehicles. You will end up spending most of your time trying to avoid hackers. As suggested above, sign up for one of the private hive servers. You'll enjoy the game much more from the start, and won't waste dozens of hours of your time and effort.

I want to join a private hive server with a whitelist, and they do it by GUID. How can I get my own GUID to give to them? It displays very briefly when joining a game, but no where near long enough to write down. Any smarter way of getting it, without joining a server 50 times and trying to read the next digit each time before it disappears? Thanks.

Got it. Thanks for the replies.

RIP GB Wireworld Vanilla DayZ Server - It was a lot of fun!
Dayzo replied to wireworld's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
· I'm Scottish but live in Spain · My ping is 100 · I can't use a mic in my apartment due to my family using the same room for working and TV. · I can only play for an hour every other night, and three or four of hours on the weekend; because of that I'm not very good at the game. Would any of that be a problem? Also, are you able to say what the dominant kind of gameplay exists on the server? Is there a good proportion of scavenging, setting up camps, and cooperation, or is it still just mainly deathmatching and sniping like in the public-hive servers? I'm far more interested in survival and co-op than the latter. Thanks. -
Thanks for the invite! Unfortunately I'm European and my ping is generally too high to play on US servers.

Are these private hives that everyone is talking about free? How do you find a private hive? How do you sign up to it? How do they filter out hackers from their sign-up process? Thanks.

Single Player DayZ
Dayzo replied to zombieanuspounder@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No, you won't get banned. I use the single player hack to try out weapons and learn zombie behaviour/evasion. It's all offline and doesn't hurt anyone at all. It's more of a mod than a hack. The single player hack doesn't spawn heli crash sites or vehicles though, so you can't really play a proper offline game. It's only really useful for training. -
What is the worst thing you've ever said to a hacker?
Dayzo replied to nicraM's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I never show any emotion or do anything that would give them any satisfaction. I want make killing me the most boring, worthless experience possible. -
I play on low population servers to avoid hackers, and still occasionally meet enough other players to keep the game interesting and unexpected. However, if I see a server with two or more clan members on it (they usually designate themselves with [clan] in their name), I'll just assume that they are hacking, hoarding, farming and generally up to no good, so I won't join the server. Am I being overly cautious or unfairly prejudiced against clan members?

I stupidly marked my camp just now on the map using the big 'X' and a label. I left the server 30 mins later. When I came back on, the marker had disappeared. 1) Even though it was only there for 30 minutes, is it highly likely that someone saw it and is heading toward my camp right now? 2) Did the marker vanish from other player's maps when I disconnected? 3) Is the owner of the marker the only one who can delete it? Or did someone else delete it? (It wasn't there when I rejoined). Maybe it deleted automatically when I left the server? Thanks for this info ASAP!

I just checked... it's already gone.

OK, here's the full (noobish) story... I was a new spawn at Kamenka, and wanted to run North West. But I wasn't watching where I was going, and actually got lost in the Western forests. Suddenly out of nowhere a V3S truck and a white car drove through the forest 300m ahead of me. I followed them, and shortly they stopped to cook food and sort their inventory. Then they carried on driving and I followed them again. This time when they got out, one of them went on a mission and the other was left on watch. I was desperate for water, and actually tried typing on direct comms to ask for help. But they weren't on direct, or I was just out of range. So I decided just to roll up to the truck and take a drink if they had it. The guy on watch was actively scanning and right next to the V3S, but only looking on one side of it. When I got to the truck, I thought, 'fuck it... this is never going to happen to me again', so I grabbed the first weapon on the list and shot the lookout from under the truck. Then I drove it away. I stopped a Km or two away and raided the truck. Amongst other stuff I took a Holo, but left a L85A2 AWS because I thought it was a hacked gun. I felt guilty because it looked like whoever repaired and stocked the truck did it all legitimately. And all I had wanted was a can of coke! So I posted the co-ords of the truck on the map with the label 'Your truck is here. Sorry.' I was a couple of Km away from the truck when everyone got disconnected from the server. I think it was a restart, but I don't know. Whilst reconnecting I realised that the L85A2 AWS was listed in the wiki and completely legit, which is when I regretted posting the co-ords of the V3S. I went back to the truck and switched guns. I wanted to move it too, but my wife rang me to pick her up so I had to stop there. I think I'm just going to leave the truck though: Driving vehicles gets you followed and killed by legitimate players, and probably some little script kiddie will teleport the truck to themselves in a few hours time anyway. And they're obviously still buggy on restart. Now tents are fixed, I think I'll go find myself one.

Uh, watch out there - you are telling people how to play! Why should people who want to play survival / co-op / vehicle repair / etc have to change their goals and waste their time trying to attack the snipers and death-matchers? Doing this wouldn't achieve anything anyway because those guys want more PvP action; they're most happy when they're running around being shot at like it's Unreal Tournament.

I had to kill two people tonight - my first kills in weeks. One attacked me, and I had to defend myself. I got a broken leg. While I was crawling around trying to find morphine, a guy tried to steal out of my pack. So he had to die too. My humanity was whatever the default was. Now it's zero, and I've got a bandit skin, even though I've never done anything except try to be friendly. I think I read that you get humanity back by blood-packing your friends. If you play alone though, how are you supposed to increase it? Thanks. NB: very unfair if teams can easily adjust their humanity, but loners can't.

If the character models are able to do such realistic movements, why are the in-game animations so shit?

Remember to practice flying it offline before you get your heli in the hive. Otherwise your joy might be very short-lived.

I only play for an hour in the evening (GMT) on European low pop servers. When I come back 24 hours later, I have no idea whether the server has been restarted during that period. So how do you guys know that a server has been restarted? How do you know how often a server is restarted? I know about: http://dayzmonitor.com, but a list of the last dozen restarts doesn't really help. Thanks.

Looking For A NON-Backstabbing Partner

How do we know that you're not a backstabbing bandit trying to do this... Edit: Anyone know why none of my linked images embed? Thanks. -

I just found my first tent. I put all my stuff in it, then saved the tent. Later I took all the stuff back out, didn't save it, and disconnected. I thought from reading the fourms that after a server restart, the tent would revert to the state it had at the first save. Isn't this the big bug that has spoiled the game by duplicating all the the rare weapons/items? My tent seems to be working fine! No duping, and no eating. What's up with that?

Demystification of the DayZ loot spawn system [SPOILER]
Dayzo replied to insitv's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Server-wide? All the loot on the server spawns together, synchronised by one ten minute timer? -
I play a 'lone-wolf survivor' kind-of game, and I'm onto my third life now (40 hours of play total). Stealthing through Cherno with my new character just took me three hours. I still aggro'd a dozen zombies even though I was prone 99% of the time and had to lose some blood hatcheting them. After three hours, I still don't have 'essentials' like a hunting knife or map. I've still got to go to deer stands and heli sites, which could take another 3-5 hours. After that, if I'm lucky, I might consider myself 'geared up' to a comfortable enough level to stop scavenging and think about setting up a camp or setting myself other objects. I don't understand how many players on the forum say they can gear up with military-quality stuff in under an hour, start a new character without much effort, and then spend the rest of the time deathmatching. What techniques are these people are using to gear-up fast? Is it even possible to scavenge as intended and gear-up in an hour, or are these players really relying on server hopping or using duping tents/camps? Incidentally, I have never seen a pitched tent. It's annoying to hear players on the forum say there are tents scattering the coast and sides of the map on nearly every server, when there is no sign of tents anywhere that I go (and I'm constantly looking for them as I traverse the map). I play on low population European servers, so maybe most of the tents are on high population and/or US servers?

Thanks again for the replies and offers of assistance. This is obviously what I'm doing wrong. I'll need to practise losing and de-aggravating zombies. However, I did try this tactic at Balota last night and got killed straight away - one single zombie strike took me from 9,000 to 6000 blood, I went unconscious, and they finished me off. I spawned again and went back to get my gear from the body - stayed prone this time!

Coincidentally, I was running around the woods at dusk last night and got a bit creeped out. I logged off to get ready for bed, and swivelled around in my chair. My 18 month year old boy was standing behind me, just staring at me as if ready to pounce, in the bluish glow of the street lamp coming through the window. It was like something out of the film REC. The little tyke had climbed out of bed, and I've no idea how long he'd been standing there watching. It scared the living hell out of me!
