    Sight Adjustment

Perhaps in the SA you could right click on a rifle scope when it is in your inventory, and click the option to 'adjust sight'. There you could use maybe the numpad arrows to properly align the cross hairs. Scopes should only sometimes be properly adjusted when you find them. This would require some trial shots to make sure your sights are aligned properly, Maybe zeroing weapons out would require you to make adjustments beforehand? Thoughts?

Can I Run DayZ Mod? (POST HERE)

Probably ~50 fps not recording in the open. That is a pretty realistic guess for recording, but it will more than likely drop ~25 - 30 on high settings. The only other thing is if you are going for recording try to use the i7 3770k, it uses hyperthreading alot more effectively and manages multitasking alot more efficiently, CPU is quite slow, but you might expect ~20 - 30 on low-ish settings. Looks good to me, 30 - 40 on high settings. I'm not sure how well ArmA likes APUs so you might only be getting ~30 on low - normal settings. Putting a dedicated card in your system will help significantly. ~30 - 40 on normal - high.

    Expert Comparison Wanted (Gaming Laptop)

What do you mean you 'don't trust SSDs'? Its like you want a powerful computer but you don't want one. Also, is there any real reason you don't want a desktop? Are you travelling or just don't have enough space...? Desktops are the way to go. You could play pretty much anything with $1400 spent on a desktop.

What should I do to run this mod smooth?

If you want to keep it simple go with the ASRock 990FX Extreme3, idk where you live but I'm sure you could find one on ebay. As for the new CPU the 8350 or 6300 are pretty solid, strong CPUs, you could look into that and save ~$150.
  5. Also, play a couple of hours worth of ArmA II first. Try out the scenarios, boot camp, armory etc until you have a basic idea of the map, weapons, movement etc That way you'll know how to properly use weapons / menus etc

What should I do to run this mod smooth?

I would go with the CPU and mobo, the GPU you have is already pretty strong and will last you until you can afford the 280x.
  7. Tbh, the easiest way I find is to absolutely avoid any players at all costs, and ignore the zombies. Run around and search through buildings until you find a crowbar or hatchet, then you pick off the zombies that are chasing you. Then you are all set, and implying you can avoid other players. Supermarkets are your best source for consumables, fire stations and airfields are your best source of weapons. Be sure to keep at least 2 or 3 bandages with you at all times. That should get you started.

    Unsurvivable, thanks.

No AS50 or M107 anymore, the HUD has been slightly changed, there has been quite alot of new features added, crafting...I could go on. You will have to play and discover yourself :)
  9. Get your family off youtube and you should get ArmA II faster :)

    Building a PC!

Corsair, Antec and Seasonic are some of the 'high-end' PSU brands.
  11. This will not guarantee your PC will get 50+ fps with a build that meets requirements. ArmA II is already a terribly unoptimized game, so that is just unlucky. I also will not cover PSU requirements, motherboard requirements etc because they do not add to performance. So since the 'Can I run it?' thread gets about 50 posts a day, I've decided to try and post the minimum specs and what would run DayZ just fine. *No idea what is needed to run DayZ?* Boom! There are the minimum and recommended system specs required to run DayZ (ArmA II OA) Your computer should meet those requirements to run it. However, having the minimum specs doesn't mean you can run it maxed out. With CPU speeds like that, I'd be surprised if your computer booted up. My old computer barely met the minimum requirements, and I got ~20 - 30 with everything on low or disabled. *What should I have to run DayZ?* If you are looking for anything over 30 fps, I would recommend at least this: - At least 3.0GHz of CPU speed (4 core) Intel fanboi here, just letting ya know :) I would recommend at least 3.0GHz for smooth gameplay (paired with a good GPU of course). My old CPU was clocked at 2.93GHz and I got around 20 - 30 on low, although that was most likely more my GPUs fault. The 'i' series of processors are highly recommended. (i5, i7, not so much i3, most of these have dual cores which isn't very helpful with a game like this) i5 2500, i5 3570, i5 4670, i7 2600, i7 3770, i7 4770... All of these have 3.0GHz+ and 4 cores. If you are using an AMD CPU, there will really be no difference in performance. Most of AMDs CPUs are very cheap with fast clock speeds (usually 3.4GHz+) A10 5800, A10 5600, FX 4300, and AMDs monster flagship CPU, the FX 8350. All of these are good choices. - At least 8GB of 1600MHz RAM Corsair, G.Skill and Kingston, Patriot are good RAM brands. - Any size HDD is fine, but having more than 20GB will be fine. My ArmA II Operation Arrowhead folder takes up about 10GBs of HDD space. - GPUs: If you are a Nvidia fanboi like me, I would recommend at least a GTX 560ti or better (570, 580, 590...) HOWEVER, if your GPU is a 610, 620, 630 or 640, don't be surprised if it can't handle the game. Just because there is a '6' in your GPUs name doesn't mean it's 'high end'. First number: Generation the card is from - Second number: pretty much translates to the cards quality out of 10. 1 - 4 is crap, 5 - 6 is good, 7 - 9 is very good. If you have a AMD card, I would recommend at least a Radeon HD 5770 or better (5850, 5870, 5950, 5970...) again, to figure out if your card is decent, look at the numbers. Much like Nvidia, the first number = generation of cards, second and third = quality out of 10. 1 - 4 is crap, 5 - 7 is good, 8 - 9 is very good. - At least 1GB of VRAM (having 6gb is complete overkill imo) *How can I find out what's inside my PC?* The easiest way to get everything about your PC is to download CPU-Z. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html This will tell you your CPU brand and model, your GPU, your RAM brand, amount and speed, motherboard brand and chipset.... Otherwise, you can simply right click on your 'computer' icon and select 'properties'. Here is your CPU model. To view your GPU, go to Control Panel, select Device Manager and then Display Adapters. *FAQ* Q. What does it mean if my CPU has a 'k' at the end of it? A. That would mean that your CPU is 'unlocked' and is able to be overclocked. However, not all motherboards support overclocking, so check up on that if you decide to do it. Q. What is overclocking? A. Overclocking pretty much means you are pushing your CPU to run faster than its store speed. This comes at a price. Pushing the CPU to go faster means it will run hotter, and that means a more sufficient cooling system. Stock coolers will barely keep your CPU cool if it is overclocked. Q. What is an 'intergrated' GPU? A. Intergrated mean that the GPU is built directly into your motherboard. These GPUs are very sloppy and will barely run most modern 3D games at playable FPSs. This GPU will use your motherboards RAM instead of its own. A dedicated GPU is detachable from the motherboard. Q. What is VRAM? A. Video Random Access Memory. This will only come with dedicated GPUs. Q. Why is DayZ running at bad FPSs? A. More than likely you are running everything higher than your system can handle. Quite often people overlook 'Anti-aliasing', which smooths the edges of objects, creating more pixels to give this effect. This can rip a chunk of FPS from your gameplay. Post Processing Effects also have a big effect on your gameplay, and can save you a heap of frames. I hope I helped someone!

    Gun Sounds

I made a rather quick video comparing the sounds of vanilla ArmA II and the ACE sound mod, I would like to hear sounds like the ones in that mod.

Do You Think Bandits Are Bad?

I mean when you are happily looting in Cherno, turn a corner and then BAM your dead. You might not even had a weapon, or had one raised, they just kill you. That ticks me off.

Do You Think Bandits Are Bad?

Bandits are OK, I agree they are crucial to the game. The people who kill newspawns, shoot you for no reason and sit on the hills surrounding the big cities sniping everyone are the bad ones.

    New Guy

Greetings, young platypus. Watch your step, and stay away from Diddums.
  16. I would go with the first one, it is pretty much identical but has a better GPU. Roughly the same price too.

    Your Greatest Friend in DayZ

Some guy who cornered me in one of the apartments. He just stood there as I held my breath (no mic at the time, so i was just hoping). He looks up and down, and then says 'you can follow me! theres a shotgun on the floor below if you want it' So he was my friend for half an hour until we got seperate because, stupid me decided to make immature jokes in side chat, and got left behind. I met up with him later, and then he died.
  18. Also make sure you've run ArmA II and Operation Arrowhead at least once prior to launching DayZ.

Can I Run DayZ Mod? (POST HERE)

Get the correct name for your CPU and I'll be able to give you a more accurate idea, but your GPU is a little on the weak side, but I would think that GPU is paired with a CPU of similar standard, you should be able to run it. The GPU is the weak spot, but you might get 30 - 40+ on normal, fix that GPU up and you'll be set. I would imagine you could get ~30 on low to normal settings, I don't know about that GPU, so you could be getting much better FPS or the complete opposite. 30 - 40 on high settings. Not looking good at all, sorry. 1.4GHz is a very slow clock speed. I don't think you'll be getting frames over 7. Sorry!

    Gun Sounds

I agree, the default weapon sounds in ArmA II sound really boring, a lot of them sound the same to me. I guess walking sounds could do with some tweaking. edit - maybe if i download J.S.R.S or the ACE sound mod I might check again. Perhaps the devs could look into mods like that?

Can I Run DayZ Mod? (POST HERE)

Not looking good sorry. You'll be getting barely any frames if you manage to play. Should be fine, 30 - 40+ on high. CPU is quite slow, and intergrated graphics will not agree with this game at all. Sorry. Not sure exactly how well, but if all goes smoothly you could be getting 20 - 30 fps (maybe) on low - normal settings. Not at very high at all, even with AA, PPE shadows etc all turned off. You might be getting 20 - 30 on low.

  23. 600 - 800 what? US dollars? Australian dollars? This will give us a better idea of where to select parts.
