There should be a new topic just for your stories. It should be called "I make hackers sad". :beans:

Ability to capture zombies
kingkrabbe.#bof replied to Steak and Potatoes's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would capture one zombie. Let's call him Bub. I would do some experiments with him. Like giving him a telephone. Or playing him some rock music on a walkman. My hypothesis is that he will be reminded of his human life. And be happy about it. Of course, I would have to feed him some fresh human meat from time to time. But there are enough corpses laying around. Maybe I will even shoot a survivor myself to keep my friend Bub happy! -
You may own WarZ someday. But WarZ won't "own" DayZ. In fact, WarZ won't "own" any decent PC game there is. WarZ is a scam game made by a terrible lead programmer. If you are familiar with the internet you can do some research. There is a very good post on Reddit about all the facts on WarZ: development time and so on. So, think about it: WarZ may "own" you and everyone who will buy it. Maybe (because WarZ is all about money) the game will even own you in the end: weapons with pricetags, "you need water? gimme your money!" Stuff like that. And for a fact: I will laugh about you on Youtube, because your WarZ backpack will be hilariously oversized. :P

Since Rocket stated that he wants to sell DayZ standalone similiar to Minecraft (early development release), I would say: open alpha
-
1. No one can really answer that BUT atm the standalone alpha release is predicted to be this year. 2. Yeah, they are passive. Sometimes you run past them and they don't give a flying f*** but sometimes you are 500 meters away, crouching over a field, and a Zed somewhere aggros at you. They are buggy, therefore unpredictable but generally easy to avoid. But once, a single hit from a Zed knocked me out and I wasn't able to recover from that blow (the Zed ate me while I was passed out). So, as I said, they are somehow unpredictable. =)
-
Yeah, DayZ standalone! :beans: I just have the slight impression that it will not come out this year (in Alpha state) though. There is NOTHING on www.dayzgame.com And Rocket tweets mostly about the DayZ dog which (for me) is a minor addition to the game. Or he tweets about playing Kerbal Space Program what is even worse. =) So, I think we will get a great game someday, but not this year. What do you think?
-
There are 2 possibilities: 1. your aim isn't better than his and you missed an entire mag. =) maybe it was far away and all your bullets dropped to the ground over distance. 2. you hit him and he is a hacker. there are many reports of friendly hackers that spawn weapons for you and stuff. but it's always a risk to play with a hacker because he can kill you in many ways when he gets bored. it's like playing with an silverback gorilla: can be fun at first, but can turn out as a bad idea ultimately.

The DayZ difficulty - is it good as it is? (Poll)
kingkrabbe.#bof posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hey, Since I didn't found a similiar topic here in the forum I want to ask this myself: So, are you satisfied with the difficulty of DayZ as it is? Plain and simple. I mean every aspect of the game (getting geared up, banditry, the zeds, quantity and availability of loot and so on). This question bugs me because I have a very clear opinion in that matter and I'm curious if that opinion differs from the one of other players. But I don't want to influence you opinions so I will stay silent. So, are you pleased? Are you not? What bugs you? Tell me about it! =) -
The DayZ difficulty - is it good as it is? (Poll)
kingkrabbe.#bof replied to kingkrabbe.#bof's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In my opinion, the game is - compared to other games - on a normal difficulty. Zeds are easy: I don't know any game where they are a real threat (except maybe The Walking Dead but that's an adventure game). Weapons tend to be unrealisic: again, I don't know any game where weapons are THAT realisic. DayZ and therefore Arma comes pretty close but it's still a game. PvP is like in any other game: there are good players. there are bad players. you may be lucky and the bandit trying killing you is a bad shot, but you can be also unlucky and your enemy can really handle his ingame weapons well. But, as I see it, DayZ should be way harder. Rocket said, he wanted to create an anti game, but the current DayZ is a joke in that perspective. To explain my point: We spawn some time AFTER the big zombie outbreak. The MILITARY is gone, the humanity is gone, everything is gone. So, now we spawn. We are obviously fishers or something (because we spawn at the beach), for a period of time offfshore and therefore uninfected. We head into the nearest open building and BAM: there lies any weapon on the ground. 3 unused mags by its side. Man, we are lucky: whoever lived here was a total weapons guy but was so surprised by the apocalypse that he forgot to fire his weapon even once. In some cases this could be true but in every third house we find a weapon... Anyway, we start going on, find a supermarket and BAM again: we have everything we need to survive the apocalypse. A backpack. Matches. A Knife. Water/soda cans. Tons of food. We are lucky again, because in the days of the apocalypse, everyone who wasn't infected forgot to go to the obvious place to get himself equipped: the supermarket. So, now we have a weapon with ammunition, we have a backpack full of goods, we can wander off in the forest and survive that apocalypse with ease. The only thing we have to worry about are bandits but that's ok. We become a bandit ourself because survival is boring when it's that easy and shooting other survivors is the only diversion you have. Maybe that's the whole "anti" in this game: survival is boring because it's easy. let's shoot other people. Now I see the dystopia in DayZ. ;) But when it's that easy and we become a one man army ourself in less than an hour: why is everyone dead? Why are there only Zeds alive and some other people? Why is the military gone, with all its highly equipped and trained soldiers? And we, on our own, survive at ease. I can see that there is a realisic point again: in the days of the apocalypse, too many people wanna survive and you have it really hard to struggle with all these other people. When its over and there are only a handfull of people left, it's getting less crowded and therefore easier to survive for the ones who remained. But what is left when the apocalypse is over? tons of guns? tons of food? I want to see DayZ more about survival. It should be REALLY hard for everybody (noobs and progamers as well: when you have nothing at the beginning and therefore you have nothing to play with the only thing that matters is your survival skill/will). Weapons: findig them is hard, findig good ones even more. Ammunition: findig a single bullet(!) is hard. Food and water and so on: supermarkets are raided, farm animals are rotting on the fields, you must scrape together the remains of society. Zeds: everywhere. Getting really good equipped will take your ingame character maybe a week or something. PvP will explode because why bother when you see a well equipped survivor crouching through the bushes? But that's ok: it highers the thrill for everyone. You can still horde and that's only natural: you scrape together everything you get. And why should you not? I hope you got my agenda. =) I don't say that this would be more fun. But it would be more thrilling and more of a zombie SURVIVAL game than anyone I know off. And who played Amnesia for the fun of it? Nah, I want to know how players think off the games difficulty. With DayZ standalone in development it's good to know if many players think it's too easy or too hard. That early in development there is a good chance to influence the final game in any direction the majority of players wants it to be. -
I like the idea for a sort of "last man standing"-kind approach: you start on a map sized like bigger than utes or something and you have to go to the rescue point. BUT there are only 4 places in the car/heli so 12 or more players must die. And the rescue vehicle must be triggered or comes after a set period of time so there is no sense in running to the vehicle. You have to gear up, maybe you even have to eat and drink once... but the game shouldn't take more than an hour max because this should be a more "I wanna play DayZ but not for long and just for the funs of it"-kind of gaming sessions. Which sound a bit like the COD-kind of game mode but it can't be like it because you aren't the Übermensch and you actually lose health and you die by a shot to the head. Imagine it more like CS 1.6 or Insurgency (if you ever played that HL2 mod) or even L4D without all that "my pistols has unlimited ammo so I shoot everything I see" realism which are more fitting for the DayZ / Arma gaming experience as I would see it in this game mode. But don't change the DayZ as it is for it. This should be an addition or even a community mod!

Hey fellow survivors, I got shot - maybe in the back, I dunno - today and lost my L85A2 AWS and my M14 AIM (and my NVGs) which I found just over the past 2 days. I want to say 2 things to my killer: 1: I myself only shot 1 person in DayZ and that person was a hacker. Which I shot in self defence. So, bad karma onto you! <_< 2: But I have to thank you because playing DayZ is a huge time killer for me. And I need my time for my studies right now so I won't play again till November thanks to you. You have my :beans: ! And that is the truth! Anyway, since I will be absent for a period of time I want to make anyone on DE 372 happy: there is a tent with an AS50 (1x AS50 Mag, 1x M107 Mag), 2x FN Fal (5 or 6 Mags) and some other stuff somewhere around 074-062 well hidden in a thick part of the forest. Getting the tents action menu is a bit tricky you have to lay down on the downhill side, in the first half near the open side of the tent. Then, you have to put your cursor on the brownish bottom part of the tent. And I could only get the menu while holding my pistol in my hands. I can't guarantee for the guns to be there OR your safety while looting that tent. But I can assure you that I put that weapons there today so you may be lucky because the tent is really well hidden under 2 trees. And I personally won't do you any harm. But as I said, it may be not safe when more people are going to that location so gang up or something. But it may be thrilling to know that there could be other people heading to the location you are heading to. I wish you luck. And maybe the happy finder wants to share his story?

So, what happened? I hope you weren't killed again.

Is this supposed to happen ?
kingkrabbe.#bof replied to karthanistyr's topic in New Player Discussion
off topic: why is everyone so obsessed about that slender man? I never heard of him before this game came out... on the other hand, I'm no American and don't know about their nightmare tales... EDIT: @Oldy1Kenobi I just found out that the Jason type guy in the video has an own Youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/SirExzib maybe SirExzib is his name in DayZ aswell -

I don't know, sorry. I saw the video on Youtube and the experience of the OP reminded me that I saw something similiar in that video. -

was it that guy? than he was a hacker. =) -
I see: after mountain dew, we have magic mushrooms as well. joke aside: I would like to help but I didn't get your problem at all.

you have a point there: some stuff in DayZ is not realistic at all. but there is no possible way (for a pc game) to achieve playability AND total realism both. when you make items spawn only once, there is nothing left for all the players. if you make ammo scarce the players have nothing to shoot with. and so on and so on. you have to keep your customer happy to a point where you have fun playing while keeping the realism as high as possible. as for the post you responded to: he has a point aswell. your sessions in DayZ represent your characters story of survival. when you die, you are dead. you can create a new character which looks the same but which isn't the same. therefore - in my opinion - you should'nt be able to get you body, get your tents and get your dog as well. that takes all the fun from building a new character from scratch as hard as it is loosing all that good stuff (happened to me as well). personally, I would like to see disappearing bodys after a set of time. and dogs who attack their "previous" but totally new owner if they want to get to their old camp. you still would have the advantage of knowing that there is a killer dog hiding in the bushes which other players would have not.

kingkrabbe.#bof replied to punget321's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm sorry but I'm not at home where my gaming PC is so I can't tell you which server you should try. One of the servers I was recently playing on was DE 372. Maybe this one works.... but there is no guarantee. -

kingkrabbe.#bof replied to punget321's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think everyone has this problem. There is nothing you can do afaik except to try other servers. There are alway some servers working which I put into my favourites then in Dayz Commander. it's even more delicious with SENF and SAUERKRAUT! -
ONE EPIC IDEA which can make peeps playing at night.
kingkrabbe.#bof replied to borntobewild's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
if I could see at night in DayZ (without giving my position away or changing my brightness) I would play at night because zombies can't see me that good. =) maybe NVGs should drop more often. they only let you play at night, you can't snipe with them (only with the DMR), so they aren't THAT brilliant, they're just rare. OR make military flashlights drop more often/everywhere or even a spawn item. and make them equipable to you shoulder like in Lingor Island. so you can protect yourself with the weapon still in hands and you don't run trough the night like a light bulb. -

Das Problem habe ich auch oft. Bei mir hilft nur Strg+Alt+Entf (da ESC und Alt+F4 dann nicht mehr gehen), Arma 2 OA force quit, dann einen anderen Server probieren. -
Standalone Poll: First Person Only?
kingkrabbe.#bof replied to Trizzo's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
there is nothing more to add. let the server admins decide if they want it or not. and the players if they want to play with it or not. -
I think that's the reason you (as a normal survivor) shouldn't be able to "run and gun" like an elite soldier. Shooting weapons needs practice and I see the normal people/survivors of Chernaurus more like untrained civilians than highly trained soldiers. If there were a skilling system in DayZ maybe you could be able to perfect your assault rifle skill and keep aiming while walking fast. But for the time being I prefer the "I use weapons but it's difficult" approach. Maybe they should make sniping way harder. Because sniping does need training as well.

Suggestion: Zombies should spawn everywhere, hear gunshots better and be faster than item loaded survivors
kingkrabbe.#bof posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hey, I'd like to propose some minor changes to the Zombie behaviour which make sense in my opinion (as connoisseur of Max Brooks "Zombie Survival Guide"). I read many suggestions by other players to improve the DayZ experience and improve the survival gameplay but I think my suggestions are fairly easy to program and add some more realism which is always good in my opinion. I searched this forum for similiar suggestions but couldn't find them so here it is. Maybe this is planned already by the Dev Team but I don't know that. =) 1. Zombies should spawn everywhere, they should always be present (not player proximity triggered) and should be untied to their spawn point Today, I play DayZ and can avoid zombies by staying far away from buildings. I can walk from south to north and back and avoid every zombie. In plus, I can avoid most players by looking for already spawned zombies which I didn't trigger. In my eyes, this is boring. =) Tomorrow, I would like to play DayZ with a determined number of zombies always present. I don't know where they are, I don't know how many. I could stumble into them in the forest, in citys, everywhere. And I can't guess where players are so I have to be super careful all the time. In and around cities should always be more zombies which makes sense: more people died there. 2. Zombies should orientate mainly with their ears, they should hear gunshots from far away and come running/walking to the position they heard the gunshot come from I'm surrounded by zombies in Elektro. Only one has spotted me. I shoot him/she/it in the head (p.e. with a G17) and him/she/it dies. All the other zombies don't care. Here, I'm no expert but afaik all the unsupressed guns are loud, aren't they? Some are louder, some are more silent, but they make a distinct noise for more than 30 meters (I live in a city and I think I can hear bobby pistol shots nearly a kilometer away) and zombies should react to that accordingly. When I fire a loud weapon anywhere in Chernaurus there should be the possibility that zombies which are more than 500 meters away hear it and they start moving to my position. They can run to my position, or they can start running to my position for 10 seconds, than walk on because they hear nothing new until I fire again. But that sound should be their main source of primal interest until they hear something else or they see a player. Maybe it's like that already but I always have the feeling that I attract few zombies when I'm shooting. In my eyes more weapons should be like the AKM or Lee Enfield. =) Also, when I'm done fireing I know that all the zombies don't care anymore and go on with their normal "brains!!!" patrol route. What I want to have in the game is the thought in every players head: "Ok, I can shoot now, but I could attract many zombies and give up my position to other players". I have that thought in DayZ as it is already but only in cities I feel really insecure because of the high number of zombies and players in proximity. But I'd like to see more triggerfinger shyness in DayZ since survivors shouldn't be like Arnie yelling "GET TO ZHE TSCHOPPA!" and shooting everything they see. Ammunition should be more scarce too. =D Of course, this would mean that silent ways of killing would be much more popular (crossbow, melee, super rare silenced weapons) but that would make sense to me. 3. Zombies should be (slightly) faster than equipped survivors I want to see anybody wearing a hiking backpack full of canned beans and carrying some kilos in weapon form in his/her hands running faster than a "28 Days Later" like infected human. =) Freshly spawned survivors or lightly equipped survivors could be equally fast. (If I made many grammar mistakes and such I'm sorry) -
Suggestion: Zombies should spawn everywhere, hear gunshots better and be faster than item loaded survivors
kingkrabbe.#bof replied to kingkrabbe.#bof's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In my eyes the "zombie hears gunshot, runs toward source of noise" is more like the zeds in DayZ as I see them. They walk around in their nervously shaking behaviour and in the instance they see or hear something (--> get an impulse) they scream and start to sprint like a lunatic. That's how it is now, that's why it should be also when they hear a shot. But like when they lose your sight and start walking again, they could become slower after a period of time after the gunshot. They have no impulse which urges them to run so they become slower like they forgot what they were chasing after in the first place. Maybe there could be a smoother transition between running and walking because this "zed running BREAK zed walking" behaviour is kind of wierd. And maybe a zed which got an impulse (noise, sight) and is starting to sprint could be a trigger himself to other zeds around him. So there could be some kind of swarm behaviour: one gets an impulse, an other one sees it -> gets impulse, a zed sees that again, impulse, and so on.
