    DayZ Concept Art

At this stage I had no idea what was possible in the new engine, there were no solid plans in place nor did Dean specifically brief me on anything. These were ideas developed with Dean. A lot of the ideas he already had, I just visualised them for him. Some of the things like transitioning into hobo mode I think were mine, I honestly can't remember, he probably already thought about it but in all honesty he had about abajillion more important things to think about. Ofcourse he has seen them, i was producing them for him and showing them to him :). At least I hope it was him... it may or may not have been an imposter!

Unfortunately I ran out of time and I was unable to create female versions. My suggestions for the veteraned female version ran along similar lines as the male, just to make her hair as tied up as possible (to avoid hair in her face when she is focussing on survival) and to make it as greasy and straggly as possible :). Dirty fingernails, frayed bulky clothing, ruined shoes all the things girls hate ;). I'd imagine Dean wants a very realistic approach so the last thing they want is skimpy clothing, perfect hair and makeup.

Cheers guys :). Don't know if anything is going to be used for the stand alone. Would be awesome if it was but really I just wanted to create some food for thought. I always find visual stuff is great for getting peoples minds racing so really this is my guerilla attempt to completely subvert the entire game to my personal whim. I haven't posted the rabid pink poodle concepts yet as those are still under NDA.

Hello Everyone, Sorry it's taken this long to get round it but I thought I might as well post this stuff in the one place people would really appreciate it. Here is the artwork I produced for the mod. It was made public quite a while ago at Rezzed in Brighton, been super busy with stuff so haven't had the chance to post it. Enjoy. ::EDIT:: For those asking here is the camp scene in wallpaper format, enjoy :). Widescreen: http://i.imgur.com/pl5rC.jpg Regular: http://i.imgur.com/pl5rC.jpg

Try switching off post processing in your graphics options. This reduces/ eliminates the blur completely.
  9. I possess a vain hope that they might stray across this. I like to imagine that they were really happy about their little escapade. Virtually hi-fiving over their TeamSpeak channel. Regaling each other with how exceptionally well they shot my friend as he was minding his own business on Green Mountain. A part of me wishes that I hadn't finished them off so soon... or at least not both of them. I would have loved to be near them as they bled out so that I could taunt them with direct chat before the life drained away. Oh well.
  10. My friend was killed today - he gave me an accurate description of the culprits. Lucky I was in the area or I would have never caught up with you two! It was fun watching you mill about, checking the gas station for goodies, coordinating your actions to take down zombies in an organized fashion and all that. I just sat on my hill with my CZ sniper rifle and waited for you to bandage your ickle wounds and dropped both of you in succession. I put a couple of extra rounds in your bonces just in case you decided not to be dead. It was entertaining watching you bleed out so quickly! You both looked like blood fountains, quite gruesome really. It didn't take my friend very long at all to rendezvous with me at your bloody bodies. Thanks for keeping his gear safe for him, that was very nice of you.

    Player controlled zombies

It's not a bad idea. It has scope and would certainly be an interesting experiment. There is a problem with players who aren't willing to roleplay as a zombie though :).

    Dead Island

Well I am not sure that's entirely true. I mean while the engine is fantastic I think what DayZ has done is offer an uncompromising, harsh environment that demands a lot from the player. Because the purpose of the game is to survive it is this unrelenting and harsh atmosphere that makes it so worth while. Of course the Arma engine has provided probably the best venue for this kind of game however I am not entirely sure the engine is the only thing that makes it successful. While there may not be other engines that offer the same scale that Arma does, I am not entirely convinced there couldn't be. I think what DayZ offers which other AAA titles don't is that demanding and uncompromising gameplay. No AAA developer would touch it with a bargepole because it's too risky, I believe. It's still quite a niche project, regardless of it's success but the success it has experienced illustrates that there are many people out there who don't want their hands held. I wouldn't dare say that this could be done on any other engine, but I do argue that it is the engine which makes it successful. If anything, the bugs and limitations of the engine hinder it just as much as it aids it. I'd love to see this kind of harsh demanding survival horror game represented in a more solid, AAA funded engine.

    Increase Death Penalty

Actually I find that what motivates bandits differs from bandit to bandit. Some like to get gear cheaply and easily by killing. Others enjoy hunting other human players (this is probably what would motivate me more than anything). Some are, as stated, visitors who aren't really motivated by anything other than boredom and the need to shoot at stuff - 'what stuff' is irrelevant to them. And of course some just like to get as many kills as possible. Personally I've never understand the mindset behind people who get upset when killed by a bandit or another player. The only time I have been truly enraged by being killed by another player was when I suspected my own clan mate did it. Being killed by other players or bandits doesn't bother me, it means I made a mistake and I deserved to die. People who bitch and whine about it over chat puzzle me. "Thanks dude, thanks a lot. I hope you enjoy your gear asshole" - well yes I am sure they will. Maybe next time you won't check your map in the middle of a fucking corn field, or stay inside a building surrounded by dead zombies for 20 minutes after you performed a rock concert using only gunshots.

Good point Veng... however you can buy the engine for retail can't you?
