Why Punish People for a Certain Playstyle?
[email protected] replied to bazbake's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"Flight" would be running away, which is possible in DayZ. Alt+F4 is disappearing into the ground, which isn't really possible in real life. And the problem with the quitting is just that's not supposed to be in any game. If Brazil would lose against England in a football match, I highly doubt the Brazilians would just run out of the stadium before the game ends. And I'm also pretty sure that if I'm on my way of losing a game of chess, I can't just walk away without my opponent beeing seriously pissed. Or to be completely realistic: If you are in the middle of fulfilling your "duties" as a husband and you just get up and walk out the door as soon as it gets a little exhausting, your wife will probably divorce you. Nobody likes the kid who's running home crying because he lost a game of football, the same goes for videogames. -
Dogs: too early yet to implement them?
[email protected] replied to kicktd's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can't do much about car hoarding. If there's two times the amount of vehicles the clans will hoard those too. The only solution would be to reset the location back to the spawn points at a certain time, and even then most people will just get them back. That's just a thing that has to be monitored by admins, if they're not doing it themselves. -
Dogs: too early yet to implement them?
[email protected] replied to kicktd's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think Rocket once said the Zs use animal AI and there's no built-in alternative in ARMA2, so I don't expect a change there until the standalone. Like I said, I'm not sure, but knowing ARMA2, I can't imagine what routines should be available for the Zs now. The dogs are a mystery to me to, to be honest. I don't know if they are server-side or not, they will probably be handled as "squad-member", but I don't kow how the HIVE saves this kind of information. If the other changes in 1.7.3. fix out some tent and vehicle related problems, those positive changes will probably iron out the problems introduced with dogs so it's as stable as it is now. But time will tell, and maybe the dogs are the first perfect feature with no problems what so ever, which would be new for DayZ and probably any kind of software in alpha state. :D -
Dogs: too early yet to implement them?

I might be mistaken, but I think the restrictions from ARMA2 don't allow for a better infected AI, since there's no "melee" combat AI for humanoids like zombies included in a military simulator. The dogs, or other things included in 1.7.3., might crash the game completely, but updates so far have been a little "delayed" anyway. The majority of non-forum readers probably use Six Launcher, many of us use Dayz Commander or something similar. So the guys who are actually here complaining all the time, i.e. the forum crowd, will be playing 1.7.3. a little before the "rest", while many servers will remain on 1.7.2.5. for the first days anyway. As soon as the first servers start to ahve major problems, the dev team can tell the Six Launcher guys to not use the update and there won't be a major impact. And if all else fails, we can make a little rollback and Rocket can remove the dogs again. I'm normally not one to say "it's an alpha" to every problem, but new features causing problems is pretty normal in this stage of development. And since Rocket and his buddies will test 1.7.3. a little before releasing it anway, it shouldn't be taht much of a problem. And to be honest, I think the dogs will just be broken and in need of a patch anyway on launch. Yes, I'm a pessimist. But I also think that if they are introduced now, they won't cause that big of a problerm later when other features will be added. Everyone but me sucks giant elephant dicks! Better? :D -
Dogs: too early yet to implement them?

I get you point, it's just that the balancing is mostly the problem of the beta. We know that the zombies "work", the guns work and the humanity system "works", so now we get new features. If the dogs will be bugged out beyond repair, they can be removed with a new build and Rocket knows that the beta (or standalone) shouldn't add dogs, or at least change them in some way. The feature must be implemented at some point, the sooner the better, so we have more time testing them, i.e. complaining on the forums about the same thing over and over again. -
Why Punish People for a Certain Playstyle?

"I abort if I do not want to die and lose my stuff; however, I still fight, but just before I die." <- That's the interesting part. I may be delusional and stupid, mostly stupid I guess, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't make you different from any other quitter. Well, I assume that people quit because they don't want to die, and that's what pisses other people off. You are a quitter like anybody else, you can call it a "play style", but in any other game/sport it's called "chicken out". -
What does Humanity mean?
[email protected] replied to Skat3rat's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/Humanity It's an indicator if you're good boy or a Nazi. If you are a really good boy you get a new outfit which makes it easier for the Nazis to kill you. -

An alpha version exists to test features. If you don't implement said features, you can't really test them, can you? -
Why Punish People for a Certain Playstyle?
[email protected] replied to bazbake's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
An honest response would be "yes, I do abort if I am in danger". Your response was "well, I'm not one to abort normally, but..." with a lot of excuses. If you abort if you're in danger of dying, you are a quitter, it doesn't make a difference if you abort directly or try to kill the guy first and only quit if you lose the fight anyway. It actually makes you worse, you don't only deny your enemy the loot and kill, you actively chicken out as soon as you see you are no match for him. But to each his own, if people abort all the time, all the bandits will end up one-shotting survivors with their AS50s to be sure to get the kill. Oh wait... they already do that. Well, we're all aweful, but at least everyone's a dick in his own way. -

Not a troll post? So you really just explained you only quit when you are afraid of dying. Does that mean everybody else quits when they are afraid of winning the fire fight? -

I think it's funny that an Alt+F4 guy calls someone else a "carebear". But I have a very easy solution for you buddy, so you don't lose your immersion and carry your gear around for a long time: don't suck at the game. But this pretty much gave away the obvious, but none the less good, trolling. I love it. :D -
From the country most Americans confuse with yours, Switzerland.

Not bad, at least we get a halfway decent ping, a Russian server would probably kill my connection. And don't be too sad, at least a respawn is exciting if you don't run around in full gear after five minutes again. ^^

Ironically the only safe places in DayZ, those were good times. Any idea what kind of server to pick? We'll probably need an UK or US located server, otherwise it will be laggy as hell for many people.

Is it possible for AS50 with thermal scope to spawn in DayZ?
[email protected] replied to Born2Steal's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Do you know what the word "hypocrite" means? Beeing hypocritical means that you are aware of the fact that you do something you blame other people for doing, which obviously is not the case with standard DayZ weapons. And you, Sir, just got some beans. Enjoy! -
The "back top the beach" thing only happens if you close the game during the "Loading" screen when you join a server. The next time you log in you will be spawned on the coast, since you're HIVE data is set to the debug fields when you force quit.

[email protected] replied to Born2Steal's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
He's not a hater, he's just not a hypocrite like those who use hacked gear. If you complain against hackers/cheaters but use hacked stuff, you are a hypocrite, simple as that. And don't come complain here if a hacker teleports you to your death, you're obviously ok with them as soon as you get cool gear because of them. -
If we're not a private hive, which I hope, I won't just kill myself to start fresh. I guess the geared players can help the newspawns first (some of us will ahev died until Sunday anyway). Some kind of goal like "find the Heli crash site" would be cool though. Good luck trying that, with that many bandits on our side you will probably die screaming.

Now I'm angry I can only give beans once per post. Fucking great, 62nd, just fucking great! And to all who are now crying because their Disneyland went boom: Boo fucking hoo. Seriously, if the first thing you scream after a grenade explodes is "hacker, hacker", you all deserved to die anyway. -

Yes, keep complaining about hackers while using hacked-in gear. I hate tose Jack the Ripper types too, but damn I'm happy all the hookers are gone from the streets. -
