Oculus Rift support for stand alone DayZ

Bump! So the Oculus Rift comes out this December? I'll buy the Oculus Rift JUST for DayZ if Rocket's had his team set that up. Let's see some support as soon as possible!
  2. My M4A1 CCO SD rifle won't reload using my 30Rnd STANAG ammo clip. Yet the 30Rnd STANAG claims to work with M4A1 rifles. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? The Reload button isn't working, even though the 30Rnd ammo is in my basic non-backpack inventory...

My M4A1 CCO SD rifle won't accept 30Rnd. STANAG?

ah so that's it! thanks guys!

Marking points of interest on your map

So do map markers still show up globally? (on the note of realism; if Rocket removed the global text chatter that everyone could read, it would only make sense to remove the global map markers because HOW does some guy 20 miles away suddenly get to see your latest map marker you've put down the moment you do that? General psychism/awesome remote viewing power just doesn't fit in the category of realism for this game)
  5. So are dogs to be found anywhere in Chernarus yet or are all the dog sightings just people running scripts?
  6. ghostlycoyote@gmail.com

Are dogs active yet or is that just scripters?

Ok, so I guess I'll be waiting longer for a 'buddy' who can warn me about other players. Come to think of it, in all the game demos for the tracking dog, we've never seen how the dog actually warns you about other players in the area... a feature I consider MUCH more important then tracking if it had to come down to it that way.
  7. I apologize in advance if this thread exists where I could not find it. I have a crossbow in my backpack and a crossbow in hand, and one hatchet in my tool belt. I do not want to lose or give up any of these three weapons as I'm holding onto the crossbow until I can give it to a friend. Does anyone know how I can arm my hatchet to fight with and keep my two crossbows? Is that even possible?
  8. ghostlycoyote@gmail.com

how to fight with hatchet and keep 2 crossbows?

    Yeah... that also sucks.

how to fight with hatchet and keep 2 crossbows?

    That sucks.
  10. Does anyone know for sure if lighting up a campfire makes the red flashing temperature gauge go back to green at some point? My temperature gauge is flashing red so I made a campfire and sat on top of the fire for a minute or two, and the temperature gauge just went hollow; meaning, instead of red or green inside the temperature gauge outline, the color inside the outline is just gone; as if the fire is not helping at all.

Campfire does or does not help with temperature problem?

Yeah it doesn't help that I'm miles away from any buildings and lost my heatpack in a random reset-to-the-shoreline game bug, and my character lives up in the wilds away from all the cities and towns, anyhow. I still have the basic gear though, thankfully the game bug didn't wipe my matches, map, compass and other basics.

Campfire does or does not help with temperature problem?

Hydra, thanks for bringing that up! I know I'm in danger of being noticed by bandits, but does the campfire make zombies aggro if they see it? (unlike the flashlight light which zombies always ignore when I point it at them)

Anyone know where the dogs are?

Edited: I apologize in advance if this topic exists somewhere already as I could not find it using the key word search, so; Two questions here: 1) I understand the answer is likely no, but just because; Does anyone know if players will optionally be able to play as a dog team-mate of human players or just as a dog, at any point in the upcoming mod versions or the stand alone game? Seriously, I would pay money for the feature/option. Everyone imagines something different whenever a question about the game is brought up.. most that is imagined is something funny. Me, I imagine "I Am Legend". A cool team up idea for survivors. 2) because the answer is most likely no to the first question, then, I also wanted to ask if anyone knows where dog spawns are on Chenarus, like, where should I look to find a dog I can befriend in the game?

Anyone know where the dogs are?

I wonder if the guy in the video playing the dog paid for that script... hmm. Assuming it was not a normal dog.

Anyone know where the dogs are?

I've edited my question, so now I'm asking if anyone knows where to find dogs in the game?

Anyone know where the dogs are?

Yeah... so... I appreciate sillyness and slap stick as much as the next man... but anyone else got an answer? preferably one closer to the topic question?
  17. I've become accustomed to prone sneaking through the middle of zombie hordes to get to where I'm going, and 95% of the zombies seem to never notice me unless it's day time and one is about to walk into my face--where I'm then forced to quickly dispatch him with my hatchet. However, there is this one zombie--who might be in Solnichny or right below that--who almost always seems to spot me sneaking up into the hill side out of the little town there, and he's like thousands of feet away from me when he spots me sneaking. Do some zombies see much further then others? It's weird because at other times I'll be running around to draw aggro from zombies to get them to follow me up steep hills so I can kill them by using their own rocket-booster power against them, and it becomes SO hard to get them to notice me! Most all of the zombies seem to just want to ignore me when I'm running around trying to get their attention. And then there's that ONE zombie again in Solnichny.. who always spots me when I'm not trying to be spotted...

    Cannibalism, it's all the rage!

As Rocket enjoys the PvP angle, I would love to see things taken a step further with this modest proposal; It would be awesome to take the slaying of our fellow man a step further by allowing people to use their knife to harvest meat from human bodies. Even *more* fun if the human meat you take has the name of the person it came from in the description! I remember the old 'Ultima Online' days when people died there would at times be parts of their bodies left behind with their names still attached; a friend of mine found both "The brain of Hitler" and some other body part of Hitler's. Just some random player named Hitler who got killed, but it was hilariously awesome collecting those body parts! Not many people in the game could brag about owning Hitler's brain. So, without having to add new costumes, masks, or whatever, the human meat hunting business could really add unlimited questing trophy hunting that would NEVER get old... because you'd always have more people with fun names that increased the value of their corpses. I'd personally love to break bread with the zombies and eat the flesh of bandits. I've just learned how to model nice looking but low poly mesh bodies, textures and normal maps & stuff in Blender 3d and I am offering my services free of charge to Rocket if he'd like fingers or ears on necklaces and decimated post-harvest player corpses. Though, modding that could still be hard, so just naming player meat would be easier comparatively, if only for adding that feature alone. I say let's CELEBRATE our total lack of humanity further by eating one-another to properly celebrate the apocalypse!
  19. I've been playing DayZ for several days now, and I just keep dying of dehydration over and over and over... Never once have I found a water bottle or canteen or soda the whole time. I'm sure it doesn't help that I avoid the big cities and stick to barns, warehouses and hunter blinds/huts. Does anyone know where Canteens are most likely to respawn?

Dying of thirst every time. Where are canteens found?

Oh, that map link REALLY helped me out! I think I've finally got a chance against the Bandits! oh, and the zombies too.. they can be a threat some times... the ones you don't see behind bushes at dusk. Thanks for all the comments, guys!
  21. I know programming extra stuff into DayZ is not easy on Rocket, so in-game activities like building survivor enclaves/forts/barricades is pretty much out of the question. But if it's not too hard to add at some point, a classic method used in console adventure games is to reward players with collectible costumes.. though player avatar meshes can conflict with stuff, like the problems with female characters trying to wear special cammo stuff. So... just masks. They don't require special weighted player avatar meshes, so they'd likely be the easiest sort of clothing/gear to implement. From hockey masks to... whatever! just fun and/or creepy masks in general. Maybe that would make DayZ more like the achievement bonus games out there? Hmm. Well, it would be something players could brag about, the masks they've collected.

Dying of thirst every time. Where are canteens found?

thanks, but actually, I come across the ponds/lakes all the time, but as the old saying goes, "Water water everywhere, but not a single drop to spare.." I definitely need to get a better feel for the map. I imagine I'll spend a lot more time dying from thirst before I get a good feel for the map. Thanks EVERYONE for the suggestions! And Helicopter Hunter? I tried that too, but there was no in game option for my character drinking her own urine. Damnable! How did Rocket KNOW I already had that on my mind? ;)

Collecting Masks to give players easier to program quests

I actually have no idea how best and easiest it would be for Rocket to implement masks/hats.. but I recall Rocket explaining a murder scene with some delight about a axe murderer going after a bunch of noobs killing them one by one; that scene could be a lot more terrifying with a sufficiently creepy mask like a cracked baby doll mask or a traditional bloody hockey mask... so, maybe not silly cartoon hats, but stuff that makes murdering more chilling.

    Fighting bandits with... dogs!

My favorite use for dogs which I hope Rocket will consider implementing, is how dog companions work in Fallout 3/NV; they growl when they sense someone else in the area. Since Rocket doesn't want to implement any specifically anti-Pvp stuff, just having the dog growl when any person or animal is in the area would be great!
