Combine Operations is just ArmA II and Arma II: Operation Arrowhead together, with the latter being the expansion. You will need both to play DayZ.
-
No, the ArmA 2 Free version of the game is just a stripped down, low-rez version of ArmA II. If you can't run that, your system is probably not up to snuff for DayZ unfortunately.

Good call on Polana. Bit closer to Berezino than I would normally recommend a near-death player go, but if it's a last-ditch effort. I would still recommend the NE airfield fields and surround area, though. I have yet to be there and NOT pass 3-5 animals.

This also works, but the only reason why I didn't list it is that you've just rung the proverbial dinner bell for nearby players. A trail of Zeds chasing a survivor is already pretty obvious for bandits on the prowl, but tossing flares, even in the day thanks to their smoke, really gives your position away. Of course, you might find a helpful player that way too...
-
Best Ways to get rid of Zeds: 1- Run around fences. They will often pause to swing at you and give you time to put some distance, especially while they run around the fence to catch up again. Also, they may try to crawl under said fence to get to you and REALLY make your escape easy. 2- Run through an open building. The Zeds will follow your path through the building and slow to a lumbering walk inside, thereby allowing you to book it to safety (of course, this is option #2 because if you are in a city/town you will most likely just get their friends on the other side of the building you just ran through). 3- Little known to new players: Run down a steep hill. Yes, you CAN lose them running UP a steep hill, but for a moment you expose yourself to a hit or three. However, running DOWN a steep hill is a surefire way to dump those pesky Zeds. Why? Well, as you slow down to avoid falling onto your face (something your character does automatically), those silly Zeds will run full-force downhill and you will be treated to the satisfying snap of their bones and thump of their bodies hitting the ground behind you. Zeds have no concept of running downhill slowly. Great way to get rid of them. This is option #3 because you actually need to be near a steep hill. Not always the case. 4- LoS (Line-of-Sight) the Zeds in a forest. Zeds will give up if they lose visual on you through bushes, but this one can take some time. 5- Axe them a question. Silent, one-shot kills...assuming you have your hatchet armed/have one to begin with. Personally? I have silenced weapons when I travel alone. If I aggro one, I take him out without panicking and grabbing the others around me. However, if you are un-geared and just making a run for it... try some of the tricks I listed above. Hope that helps a little.

As the others above explained, when it starts flashing/blinking (and I believe the 5 minutes is about right. Used to be the border of the icon would also turn red, but I am not sure about that anymore) you need to eat/drink. You will start to lose blood, albeit slowly, and shortly after that you will begin passing out. Probably the slowest death in-game unless something assists you into the next work :P

Is the graphical bug still in-game?
Malachi Krieg replied to Aracnos's topic in New Player Discussion
Assuming you are talking about the massive artifacting that's eating up some major spots of the map? Yes and yes. Supposed to be worked on in the next patch. -
Sorry, stayed up as late as this old man could last night :P Ouch, that's an integrated or "on-board" video card. I am not sure how well you will be able to handle the game in general. Best I can still suggest at this point is that you load Singleplayer and enter The Armory and just turn all of your video settings as low as possible. You'll just have to cross your fingers and hope you can get a reasonable framerate to play, but DayZ can be a demanding program and I have high-end machines running it.

You are correct. Gorka does not have a supermarket. Closest relatlively safe would be Krasnastav (Berezino would be a death trap with blurred vision). IF you can safely make your way to the NE (not NW) Airfield, Nemmyz, there are almost always goats or cows wandering the ruined airstrip there.
-
Sure, just ignore the other players who will be camping there too :P
-
Cool, I wasn't sure how DayZ handles shared video memory even though MOST video cards will grab some if you have plenty left over from your System RAM these days. Beans for you, good sir!

Saving your Fav server..
Malachi Krieg replied to Maniacmike (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
This so many times over. DayZCommander let's you favourite (though Six Launcher does as well... still don't like that launcher), as well as see recent servers played on (which is great with DayZCommander tracks by the server IP and if they should happen to rename the server, if will still show on your recently) and filter by settings like nameplates, third-person, crosshairs, etc. Hell, you can even mouse-over the number of players on the server and see the names. You can also add your friends by name to see what servers they are on (WARNING: Common names will give you a lot of results). -
Lots and lots and lots of map markers. Someone took some time for that.
-
Silver is correct, it's a server-specific setting. If it DOES work, Shift+Left Click to set the waypoint on your map.
-
Look for: Manufacturer Name, Chip Type and Approx. Total Memory.

You "might" be able to eek by on that Radeon 4200... but I REALLY emphasise the word "might". You're technically borderlining some of the specs required: OS: Windows XP or Windows Vista Processor: Intel Core 2.4 GHz or AMD Dual-Core Athlon 2.5 GHz Memory: 1GB Graphics: Nvidia Geforce 8600GT or ATI Radeon 3650 or faster with Shader Model 3 and 512 MB VRAM DirectX®: DirectX 9.0c Hard Drive: 10 GB free space You only have 256MB dedicated video memory. I am going to assume that's a laptop also with the Realtek audio and the 1600x900 resolution. I would guess a DV7 perhaps? Here's what I would really suggest you do. ArmA II has a free version that is low-rez and whatnot called ArmA 2 Free. I would suggest you download that first and give it a go and if you can eek by on low settings. Mind you, that's just ArmA II, not DayZ. After that you can try buying ArmA II: OA and running DayZ, but I can't guaranty you will be able to swing it.

I've never had to save a vehicle more than once to get it to stay, but I WILL say that some servers eat vehicles after restarts. Our group had our bus eaten on one of our two home servers after a restart. Short story: Don't get attached to things :P
-
If you run the DXDIAG from the Windows Start button and go to the Display tab, it will tell you what your video card is. I am going to go out on a limb and say you're probably running a much older card (based on your CPU and RAM specs) or an integrated graphics card, which is most definitely not going to be able to handle the game.
-
You know, the shame with the Thunderdome being a script "hack" is that the idea is actually fun. If they'd actually work WITH the community and set up servers where it started at specific times I am pretty sure a lot of people would join in. Being yanked from whatever you are doing at the moment and being forced into it? Just gonna piss people off and get the script blocked soon.

Tents used to stay 6 days, but it seems like they stay damned near forever now. But as Skill said, no they will not be moved between servers. That just keeps them from de-spawning as ambient crap on the map. ALWAYS make sure to save your vehicles and tent before you leave them though, period.
-
Bit on the low-end for the CPU. Also, what video card do you have and what Operating System are you running?
-
PC Specs = Specifications of your computer. CPU = Your processor type and speed RAM = Memory Etc. = Et cetera, Latin for "and other things" :P
-
I've even gotten varying framerates on different servers with the same number of players on, so some things are just wonky.
-
This overtook the winner of "Funniest MoFo Scripter" who was spawning himself as a German Shepard that would walk up to players and talk to them.
-
Do you have Java installed and up-to-date? If you'd rather, just hit the Windows Start button and type DXDIAG in the search field for your PC specs and post the basics here (Video Card, CPU, RAM, etc.)
